Lysithea knew that power was needed to purify people out of the Negaverse...she knew that, but didn’t really know anyone with that kind of power. She thought about finding someone to ask, someone with more experience than her...but...but she wanted this to be all her. She wanted to be the one who found the answer of how to save Zack, how to bring Sanidine out of the darkness...but…

Honestly, she didn’t know where to start.

It was a beautiful night out, the stars were bright, the moon, though it was small tonight, was sparkling bright, and Lysithea flopped onto the ground, stretching out on the grass just watching the sky. The...cosmos.

Cosmos.

Wasn’t Cosmos a person? She felt like she knew that name, maybe someone had talked about it before...maybe...maybe this Cosmos could help.

But...talking to someone this powerful wasn’t like...ordering a pizza or something. She couldn’t just pick up her phone and call Cosmos for a friendly chat...could she?

Idly, Lysithea took out her phone and looked it over, flipping through her contacts, hoping that perhaps this ‘Cosmos’ was one of the default numbers...like how 911 was pre-programmed into phones for emergencies. Sadly though, this was not the case and the eternal flopped backwards again, letting her hands fall to her side.

“Okay then. I give up. How does a person get a hold of Cosmos?” The words were spoken aloud and she closed her eyes, just wishing there were some way to reach her.

...Maybe she should ask someone else.

“By asking politely, usually,” a voice said from behind her. Cosmos did not immediately seem to have an energy signature; after she arrived it seemed to bubble and slowly grow in strength. She tucked some hair behind her ear and offered a kind smile.

“You were lucky, I was just about to head home.”

Home, the Galaxy Cauldron.

Once, she might have called Earth home, but now her visits seemed limited to when something was wrong—or when someone needed something.

She seemed tired, but in a timeless way. This wasn’t some late night fatigue; it was an eternal weight she bore on her shoulders. Cosmos never slept.

“What do you need?”

Lysithea’s eyes snapped open and she sat up glancing behind her with wide eyes before scrambling to her feet, trying to wipe the grass and dirt from her fuku. “Oh! Oh gosh hi. I’m sorry...I didn’t mean to be rude…” She felt as though she had been hit by a truck. This was not what she was expecting, not at all. “I didn’t realize that there was a way to contact you...I wasn’t even sure…”

She paused, her aura washing over her like a gentle summer breeze. “Have...we met before? You feel familiar, somehow…”

Lysithea felt that she should know when she had felt this...but she didn’t. Didn’t have a clue...but it was there in the back of her mind none the less.

“I’m Sailor Lysithea, it’s nice to meet you.” She extended a hand, feeling even worse for not even offering a name. This was all going so strangely, she wasn’t quite sure how to deal with it all.

Cosmos shrugged faintly. “I visit, occasionally. I do not think we have been formally introduced, though.”

She extended her hand politely and shook the hand Lysithea had offered. “I am Cosmos.”

But Lysithea knew that. She bowed her head just slightly in greeting. “You called me, only a few nights ago. You and your team, with the little youma. Perhaps that is where you feel familiarity? I did not stay for long. The process was taxing, but,” she shrugged and smiled faintly. “I come when I am needed. How are you all doing?”

“Oh!” That power she felt, it must have been her. Her smile brightened and she nodded. “Thank you so much for that, I appreciate it more than I can even begin to say...I had been searching for a way to save him for months and months...I’m so glad it was finally possible…”

Hesitating, Lysithea looked at the woman. “You have so much power...you can help guide those who the Negaverse has claimed...you can guide them back to the light? My...my boyfriend. I just found out very recently that he...he’s one of their Generals. He was the one that was there--with Evan...uh, the little youma you helped.”

She felt like she was rambling but she couldn’t seem to stop the words. “Cosmos, would you be able to bring him out of the Negaverse? He wants to get out, he’s afraid that he’s becoming a monster...he...he almost ended up killing his brother, and he’s scared--so scared...I’m trying to find a way to help him.”

That was earnest enough, wasn’t it? She had to see that Lysithea was sincere in her questions...in her plea…

She had to be able to help Sanidine...she just had to.

Cosmos’ eyes flashed. “If he knows who you are, then I must. Your life is at stake. Metallia’s claws dig deep. If he knows, then it is only a matter of time before she knows. No matter how willing he is, her will is stronger. If he is serious about leaving the Negaverse, I will need to see him as soon as possible. I can do it,” she insisted; she had been busy on Earth and had spent a lot of energy already, but a trip to the Cauldron would heal her quickly.

“…Do you know the risks, though? Aside from that? Purification is not always easy. Even if he is willing, the Chaos clings to all that it can. He will not purify whole. There will be lapses in his memory…”

She was careful, trying not to scare the woman away.

She only wanted to prepare her for the inevitable if she did not already know.

“He knows. He’s been getting his affairs in order...I think he’s ready...should...should I call him…? I can do it now...he can be here soon, I’m sure….”

The way that the woman was talking, sent a shiver down Lysithea’s spine and for a moment she had a slight feeling of fear...wondering if maybe Sanidine had already been compromised...honestly, she didn’t care about herself that much...not at all really...truth be told, she’d be happy so long as she was with Zack, but Mal...she couldn’t let Mal get hurt. She wouldn’t risk his safety.

“I’m gonna call him…”

She powered down to Cambria and drew out her phone, dialing Zack’s number and telling him that it was time, and her location, nothing more. She hung up the phone and henshined back up, looking slightly...sick.

This was it. This was the end of everything as she knew it...and the start of something completely new.

“I know there will be issues. I know he won’t be...he won’t be him. I’m okay with that. I’ll love him no matter who or what he is. I’m not going to turn my back on someone I care about...that’s not who I am...not how I work. Thank you for this, Cosmos...you’ve done so much for me...Is...is there anything I can do to repay you for all of your kindness?”

Cosmos watched as Lysithea tended to her affairs; she leaned on her staff and waited patiently. The Cauldron was calling, but this was as important as any other Earthly task.

She shook her head.

“I require nothing. I am only doing my duty, that does not need repayment. If you are prepared, if he is prepared, then I will wait.”

She was prepared for an ambush, but only because the Negaverse had taught her to expect the worst.

Cosmos glanced at her. “…I know this will be hard, but it is the right decision. We will correct a mistake that never should have come to pass. Whatever transpires once he arrives, he will be a better person afterwards. I hope that you have faith in that.”

“Well, if you’re sure...I mean, I could make you cookies or something...you could come over for dinner one night? Ah, I’ll think of something. You really have done so much for us...and you’re still doing things for us. You’re amazing. Thank you.”

Lysithea glanced around, hoping that Zack would hurry up and just...get there. She was starting to get worried. What if he had been found out...what if he had changed his mind…

She didn’t want to think these things but...after Cosmos put forth her worries...now she had them too. Ugh.

“He should be here any minute, honest...He seemed ready when I just talked to him...and I mean...h-he can teleport...so…”

Come on, Zack…
PostPosted: Sun Apr 02, 2017 8:21 pm

Everything was ready.

Zack had done more in the past few days than he had in the last year, it seemed. He glanced at the box in the corner. His heart was pounding in his chest; he patted himself down like he was looking for his keys.

In the box, already.

Everything was in the box, except for the cell phone he’d just gotten the call from, and a letter he had shoved in the back of a desk drawer.

A letter, for Evan.

The words he couldn’t say face to face, but that he wanted said in case he didn’t come back from this.

With a heavy sigh, he pulled out the drawer and laid the letter atop of the desk.

It would have been hard to miss, if anyone had looked. Evan’s name was on it; he’d find it eventually. The house was silent; Cambria was gone and Evan was lying on the couch, asleep in front of a muted television.

Zack quietly stalked across the room and looked down at him. He wanted to sigh, or make some noise to wake Evan, if only to have an excuse to talk to him. Only, Evan would have known something was wrong, and Zack wouldn’t have been able to explain to him just what it was. Instead, he leaned over the back of the couch and pulled the blankets up to tuck Evan in a little more.

Evan was out; he snuggled deeper into the blankets but his eyes never opened.

Zack leaned over and gave him a light kiss on the temple—as sweet of a goodbye as he could manage.

He couldn’t risk leaving the house; the doors would be unlocked and if Evan woke up, alone, in an unlocked house he’d have been frantic. Instead, Zack powered up in his living room and teleported to Cambria’s location.

It hadn’t been perfect; he’d guessed her area and when he arrived he was near enough to feel her—and someone else—but he’d still had a bit of a walk.

He didn’t waste time; he teleported closer, figuring he might as well get as much use out of it as he could.

This time, he was only a few yards from Lysithea—and the stranger. He cast Cosmos a wary glance before focusing his attention on the Senshi he knew.

“Evan’s asleep on the couch. Everything I’ve got is in a box by my desk. I don’t think I forgot anything.”

He’d made his list; he’d checked it a few times.

He was ready.

Lysithea crossed the distance between them and drew Sanidine into a tight hug, trying to just...hold on to everything. To what she had now, and what she was about to lose. She was scared, she couldn’t deny that...she didn’t want to lose Zack...like she hadn’t wanted to lose Evan, or see Malcolm get hurt...but...but this loss was for the best. She just had to tell herself that…

If she said it enough, maybe she’d believe it.

“Zack, this is Cosmos...she’s going to be helping you...She...she was there when we helped Evan...I didn’t know she was there, but she was, she’s very strong, and very wise and she’s going to help you. And i’m going to be right here, so...don’t you worry, okay?”

Lysithea pulled away from him, though stayed close enough that she was almost touching him, unwilling to really let him out of her grasp...lest he just...vanish…

But that wouldn’t happen. Cosmos knew what she was doing…

This was for the best.

Cosmos watched with a calm expression; she did not accept Lysithea’s offer for dinner but smiled and thanked her. She fell quiet when the General arrived, watching him with a wary expression.

He did not make any attempt to attack her, and when he spoke to Lysithea, she relaxed further.
This was not the action of a scheming Agent. Still, she did not want to take any chances.

“We should do this quickly,” she said; her voice was soft and guiding and despite the message she didn’t seem like she was rushing them.

She just didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity that could disappear at any time.

Sanidine drew in a sharp breath and nodded. He gave Lysithea’s hand a squeeze. “We’ve got this,” he said, sounding far more convincing than he felt. He smiled, for Lysithea and winked, almost playfully.

It was now or never.

He could feel the cold sweat on his skin and his heart was pounding in his chest. Standing in front of Cosmos, he realized he didn’t know entirely what to expect; he just knew that he’d made it through corruption, through two promotions, and through losing his bonded youma.

He figured this would hurt, but he was certain he deserved it.

He couldn’t undo the past, but he could try to make up for it in the future.

Turning to face Cosmos, he stood up taller.

“I’m ready.”
PostPosted: Sun Apr 02, 2017 8:27 pm

Cosmos nodded with the same calm she’d had this whole time. “Alright. This will sting. Brace yourself.”

She held out a hand, a good few inches from his chest, and began to push in a slow stream of energy. The grip of Chaos was always more difficult on Generals and she always felt like she was at her most vulnerable when she was focused on the purification.

She tried to stay alert, tried to watch her surroundings for any indication that this was some sort of trap, but it was difficult to do both jobs at once.

She didn’t want to compromise the purification and chased the thoughts from her mind; with all of her focus, she pushed the Chaos out of him.

It burned. It burned, but not in the same way that the Chaos did going in.

Compared to what he’d felt in the previous week, Sanidine was surprised. It was uncomfortable, like a sunburn chafing. Maybe he was just too tired to feel crippling pain, or too anxious to get this over with.

He didn’t know when it had started or when it ended; his mind was suddenly hazy. It was like being on the cusp of unconsciousness; his thoughts were fluid and loose, and he had the strange sensation that if he didn’t hold onto them tight enough they would just float away.

Darkness had claimed his vision but he was still standing; the pain subsided first, and then the darkness with it.

He was standing in front of a woman—Cosmos. Lysithea was next to him. He had been repeating their names in his mind. He remembered that he was supposed to forget but was suddenly seized with a frantic fear that he’d forgotten everything.

His head twisted to Lysithea imploringly, desperately.

Cambria had called him here.

Cambria?

Yes, his girlfriend Cambria. He’d been with Evan, at the house. Cambria wasn’t here now, but she was here somewhere.

His legs suddenly felt they were going to buckle, as if he’d just finished some marathon he hadn’t properly trained for. He remained standing and, of all the questions he had to ask, all he could manage through the hazy thoughts was, “Did it work?”

Had it worked?

He was almost afraid to look, afraid to know.

He’d wanted Sanidine to be gone—and he was.

In his place, stood a Knight, purple and decorated in the symbols of Saturn.

If he’d listened, he would have heard a name: Mont Saint-Michel.
