As he traveled, the climate and conditions inevitably changed. Hot and damp here. Dry and windy elsewhere. It occurred to him that his present wardrobe, although roomy and comfortable, would not be enough to meet his needs everywhere in Tenaji. What if he had to head to Zena? It snowed hard there, and most of the land was colder than Sauti. Besides, even warmer places like Jauhar had their cold spells from time to time. If he was going to be a true traveller, he ought to be prepared, right?
With that in mind, he set about trying to make himself a shirt. He supposed to could have easily bought one from a marketplace, but it seemed to him like he ought to at least give it a go himself first. He liked working with his hands, whether it was labelling bottles, repairing barrels or… well, trying to thread a needle. That part took him a good few minutes, but he kept at it until he got it. Stabbed his fingers a few times in the process, but his hands were calloused enough from holding the reins to not be particularly bothered by it.
With the needle and thread ready, he picked up the cut pieces of fabric he had prepared and began to stitch. The design was fairly simple -- a blocky shirt with sleeves that would reach all the way down to his wrists, which he would be able to roll up if he wanted shorter ones. He thought it would look alright… but when he put on the finished product, he couldn’t help but laugh. Although he had no mirror, he could tell right away that something was off. The shoulders got all bunched up and the shirt was way too tight around his chest. Oh well! He took it off and balled it up, tossing it into a basket where he kept his rags for cleaning. At least he’d started this experiment with cheap fabric!
