Patrols, while short before, felt far longer after escaping the clutches of the Negaverse. And while his sense of self-preservation urged him to take his knightly forays into a different district entirely, Scholomance forced himself to remain in familiar zones to demonstrate his lack of bending to the Negaverse's greater prowess. He did so for more than simply spitting in the Negaverse's face, however - Order signatures still blossomed with frequency in the area, and he wanted to try his hand at tracking down some of the winged strangers that saved his life.

Though perhaps he should have abandoned such an idea, for Destiny City sprawled as a metropolis and those who saved him seldom stuck around to chat about it afterward. Most left their separate ways, but for Tortuga and Hy-Brasil.

The thought surfaced that they did not want to be found - that their assistance came from impersonal motivations and would remain so. Or, they found him lacking and weak for finding himself at the clutches of the Negaverse in the first place. Or, isolation tactics afterward manifested as a means to punish him for his folly. Surely not everyone proved blind to his earlier choices, his slight deals on the side of the Negaverse. His speech may have cost him many friendships with the forthright volunteering of such information. The thought irked him, and he continued his brisk search through the business district.

In light of the battle, the district remained quiet that night. Businesses closed earlier, closer to dusk. The wayward groups who often wandered beneath street lamps took their priorities elsewhere that evening. Bars extended their hours into the morning, lending shelter to their patrons and security from outside menaces. Announcements plastered about by the willful and wary of Destiny City warned others from going out at night, from engaging with strangers in fanciful costumes and from traveling alone. As a shopkeeper, Scholomance witnessed the price of mace and other personal protection spike by a solid fifteen percent. Despite this price hike, he still sold out of many of his self-defense wares. Repercussions from the battle spread everywhere, it seemed.

Yet still, beyond the shimmering blanket of night, he felt pure auric energy. He felt it as on par with Scylla's strength, and it may well be her. Or, he might discover one of the other pivotal members from the night when he was nearly taken by the Negaverse. Scholomance then broke for it, abandoning his sense of patrol route to the chance at discovering yet another ally.

Kerberos had felt...strange, ever since that night in the park. It was hard to articulate - but he knew that it was, in some way, positive. He had been drifting for a year since his purification, burning himself out trying to fight an overwhelming battle, and he'd thought he was accomplishing nothing except getting sicker and sicker, and weaker and weaker - no matter how much people fussed over him.

but hat night had been. Different. He'd gone with no particular idea that he'd be useful, and he had...he had helped, had fought and stood for something and, pleasingly for himself, probably done some harm to Schörl by helping to destroy her awful little youma.

And he'd helped recover a stolen starseed and saved a life.

Success. Hope. Both things that had been in terribly short supply for him.

So to say he was feeling pretty good that night would be a bit of an understatement. He'd stopped on a rooftop with ledges, and was leaning against one, gazing down at the streets below, when he felt the Knight signature approaching. He turned towards it, heading int hat direction - and was surprised but pleased to spot the very Knight whose starseed had required rescuing.

"Hey!" He said, and it actually came out sounding fairly welcoming, without the edge of exhaustion that always seemed to hover around him. "I don't think we got properly introduced, back when you were uh. Getting put back together. I'm Kerberos. It's good to see you up."

Initially he did not recognize the man - perhaps that was a failing on part of his trained ability to recognize faces. The night that Order saved him from corruption had been a disjointed one, both for his own lapse in memory and the fallout that occurred afterward. For all that they bandied together under one cause, Order just as soon fractured and left in separate directions, to sate separate needs. He found it disconcerting, how easily they just dissolved their temporary alliances with one another. Order remained a mystery, even if they did showcase their overwhelming power once in a while. Now why couldn't they do that more often?

But Scholomance's musings cut short as the lovely set of legs approached, and Harem Boy started to speak for himself. He sounded kind, joyful even, and broached him in a delightful way. How long had it been since someone told him, it's good to see you up? Quite a while, he supposed. Perhaps not since Gwen first saw him awake back in October.

Getting put back together, he says. This one has a way with words. But Scholomance smiled nonetheless, and tugged down the half-mask to show off one less garish than what was distressed into the fabric. "You're right, we haven't met. I'm afraid that night went by a little too quickly for my taste. one minute I'm standing against Cinnabar, and the next I'm in Hvergelmir's lap with a whole lot of strangers playing voyeur. Scholomance, of Saturn. I promise I'm quite a bit more charming when I'm not still feeling glass in my a*****e. You'd be quite amazed by how much detritus you pick up in getting dragged around like that." Cocking a brow, he communicated his dry humor.

"Thank you for showing up to help out. To be honest, Scylla and I were banking on it. Hy-Brasil, too - she's an Earth squire, about this high." His arm measured to the bottom of his neck, thereabout. "We weren't really going to make it - not with those numbers. But thanks to you and a whole lot of other people, neither one of us is corrupted or face down in a gutter somewhere. Fancy that, now we can still wake up to splitting hangovers, and go to work, and eat junk food, and take post-coital dumps. Quite a lovely little surprise, if you ask me."
