I am slowly catching up ;v;
Sorry I am scum / late af.

Ofelia had been spending an increasing amount of time hanging around Elzo’s apartment. Despite the hiccup at New Years the two were carrying on as normally as they could given the circumstances. Both Elzo and Ofelia were very private people with very complicated lives, at times this meant their attentions were focused on things other than their relationship - thankfully they both seemed to understand that boundary and just carried on where they left off when the cosmos gave them a moments peace.

Back home she was still dealing with the consequences of Kam’s struggle and trying her best to be supportive; however right now the best thing she could do was give him space and seeing as her relationship with the Court was rockier than ever, Elzo was her escape and constant.

She asked herself why she had kept him away from Kam for so long? The dreadhead was a big part of her life but she was in no rush to bring the two most prominent male figures in her life together. She would go as far as to say she was hesitant to do so - Raven and Jett, well that was out the question. They were her horcruxes, and putting them all in the same basket seemed positively insane.

However, she was not the only one who felt this hesitation.

Despite being a part of Elzo’s life for over a year she and Marlo had only ever met each other in passing, despite coexisting in the same space, despite their paths crossing one or twice before. Ofelia had always tried her best to not intrude on his space and give him distance out of courtesy. For the longest time her and Elzo were only casual lovers - not the couple they were now. There had really been no need for her and Marlo to talk, but things had changed.

And were only going to change more today. Ofelia was sat on the couch reading a magazine, golden eyes flicking through the pages. She rarely watched TV, she had found you could keep up with soaps by simply skimming the synopsis in the tv guide.

His place had become 'their' place and for Marlo that was fine. It meant Elzo would have a safe haven and, a location where they could easily work and talk business outside of the office. Marlo had put up with Elzo's lovers and he'd put up with Marlo's habits.

Elzo starting to go vaguely steady was a change, but that too, had been fine. Ofelia was a kind girl and didn't pry too much in the business and respected Marlo's boundaries. That had been at the start of the pair's relationship. Now however, Marlo was growing more and more 'concerned' about his brother's seemingly deeper infatuation with the woman who was 'fine' with the Elder sibling's lack of loyalty.

No woman was so kind and understanding. Not in Marlo's experience anyway.

Coming out of his office to see said woman on his couch and knowing Elzo would be gone for several hours, (at work, thankfully. Marlo had made sure that the COO was going to those damn meetings because Marlo was tired of having to step in).
"Ofelia." He said, walking towards the kitchen.
"You do know Elzo will not be back for a while correct?" Another thing that mildly concerned Marlo was how much he trusted this woman. The closer someone ones, the higher chance that they'd discover his secret. And of all things, Marlo wasn't liking the close encounters Elzo had been risking as of late, not just with his beau Ofelia.

Now, this was fairly unusual. Golden eyes drifted over the back of the sofa, head tilting to one side curiously like a cats. It was hard to read Marlo, she could not tell if the comment was meant to be loaded at all. Not that she could really judge him for that, she herself was hard to read at times. “Marlo, it is okay to call me Ofie.” She smiled, shaking her head slightly before she picked herself up from the seat. The brunette glided idly across the room, before entering the kitchen after him. The two did not talk often, and heck, she was not going to miss the chance to converse now he had willingly opened a dialogue.

Magazine rolled up in her hand in a tube she leaned across the kitchen counter, stretching out her legs slightly. She must have been sat down for a while - her calves had fallen asleep. “I know, my roommate is working through a few things. So I am giving him some space.” She did not know how much she wanted to go into that, Kam’s issues were not something she would disclose to a stranger. Ofelia had told Elzo that he was going through a rough time, leaning into bad habits to help him cope, but was trying to break them. All she was doing at home was getting in the way and more so Kam hated being coddled.

She paused, roommate was not the word, Kam was more her guardian that a Roommate. He took care of her, gave her a place to stay, was helping her work through her own issues. “Elzo said I was okay hanging around for a while, but if you have something planned I can go to a coffee house. It is open mic tonight, and I can easily spend a few hours playing to waste the time. I should have asked you too - I am sorry.” Ofelia used to work at said coffee house, and the owner said she could come and play the violin anytime her heart desired. She still did not own her own instrument, but borrowed his, the same man who had lent her it that faithful New Years Eve.

The tall woman looked to the magazine, and pointed it at the younger brother with a small smile. “I was just reading about how Valentina found out about Roberto’s affair with Sofia. I watch the episodes sometimes but still do not understand much, a few words, the guide helps me work it out.” Watching Italian drama was a strange way to pick up a language maybe, but luckily it was expressive and dramatic enough that character's feelings and intentions were made obvious. At this point her interpretation of episodes differed greatly to the actual story - but Elzo thought it was amusing to hear the cannon and stories she made up herself.

She smiled again, eyes drifting down slightly. Did Marlo watch soaps? He must have some hobby beyond the office. She took a deep breath and held it for a moment, exhaling with a new confidence. “Is everything okay?”

Marlo looked to his brother's lover and just shook his head. She was Ofelia, calling her a nickname when he was not even remotely close to her seemed disingenuous. "We're not close. Do you prefer Ofie to Ofelia?' He made it question, not wanting to upset her. His brother's lover, no matter how long she lasted, deserved some respect. She seemed nice, not to mention semi-serious about Elzo.

If only Elzo could see that. He was bound to break this woman's heart, but he did that with others before.

"I didn't mean to sound like I wanted you to leave, I was only curious as to why you stay. There are few things that can be offered to you here, and Elzo won't return for a time. I do not mind your presence," rather it perplexed him, "I just find your attachment to my brother, a man who rails against commitment, to be unusual." A polite way of saying he doubted they would last due to Elzo's own nature.

Once, Marlo could belive his older brother would be loyal, would be devoted, but that was before he'd given his heart and soul to someone only to have them eventually reject him in the most cruel of manners. No matter what Elzo felt or thought, Marlo wouldn't forgive the woman who'd left his brother, when Elzo had been willing to do anything to see their marriage last. Perception and bias Marlo knew clouded his vision, but the bitterness was there.
Elzo had broken and shattered, and that was a time when Marlo was left to pick of the fragmented remains.

Working at his espresso machine, he set down two cups rather than one. "You prefer whole or skim milk?" He assumed she'd drink a latte he'd made.
A small span of silence as he set everything up then.

"Things are not okay, relative to what they have been in the past, but there have been worse periods. Also, if you wish to learn Italian, I'm certain Elzo would be happy to teach you beyond bedroom phrases."

Golden eyes looked at the man, curious, a little confused. A hum rang in her throat as she looked down at her feet, before finally there was a glimmer of realisation in her gaze. “Oooooh.” She mused, pushing herself away from the counter. “I guess things must be getting pretty serious, then. If I am peaking your interest after all this time.” He wanted to express his doubt, find her motive, judge her character. Ofelia had been for the longest time, another one of Elzo’s girls and the sudden shift had probably caused concern; heck, she would be lying if she said she had not felt the same concern and apprehension. Things had not moved in the direction she expected either.

Arms folded in front of her, an action that gave away her guarded nature. She was trying to be open, relaxed, but knew she only had one chance to make the right first impression. The nerves she felt were similar to what she once felt standing in front of audiences, the same thoughts in her mind, wanting to win their hearts. “I am glad you don’t mind my presence. Yours is not too bad either.” It was hard to pick fault in a person who had the aura of a ghost, who faded in and out of the room without disturbing the air he walked though. She had watched him sometimes, get his things ready for work, do mundane things around the apartment.

She had no idea if she prefered whole or skimmed milk? She just usually drunk whatever Elzo made, coffee was coffee at the end of the day. “Whichever you prefer, I have no preference. Thank you.” She was pretty sure she had failed the coffee component of today's unexpected pop quizz, but if he was going to fault her character, a untuned pallet was not the worst flaw he could uncover.

Then he said sometime that made her pause for a moment. Her cheeks turned slightly red as her eyes darted to the side. Though when the shock subsided she found herself bringing her hand to her mouth, unable to hold that the slightly chuckle that escaped her. “You're funny. I didn’t believe it” She could not help the smile that slowly crept onto her lips. He looked so serious, but how was she meant to react to such a bold comment?

If Marlo and Elzo had nothing else in common, they were both very direct. “No, learning from Elzo would defeat the purpose. But the phrases from the bedroom are a pretty solid foundation. If nothing else, I will never get stuck asking someone if they wanted a ride.” She did not want Elzo to teach her, that would make it a gift from him to her. She wanted to learn for him, so she could listen to his stories how they were meant to be told. He always sounded more excitable when he spoke it, and it broke though when he was happy.

“As for there nothing that can be offered to me here, I guess I will be the judge of that. Do not worry, I am not trying to trap your brother or lead him down a path that is unnatural to him. And call me Ofie, we might not be close now, but we might as well start as we mean to go on.” The words came easier than she thought they would, she was almost tempted to put a hand on his shoulder, but decided against it. Instead she turned to pull up a chair at the table. Leaning her chin against the palm of her hand as she waited for him to join her.
PostPosted: Mon May 22, 2017 3:09 pm

"Ofie it is then." He said nonchalantly. If she wanted the closeness of nicknames, he supposed he could afford her that given the situation between her and Elzo. It wasn't like she was a weekend fling after all.

Pouring a bit of whole milk into the coffee, he offered the cup to Ofelia, adding sugar to his own before stirring. "my humor borders along crass and obscene. I tend to utilize my wit only when suitable." He smirked at the coffee, taking a small sip before turning to lean on the counter and watch her. Light blue eyes ran down her form, appraising in a manner devoid of sexual desire. It was akin to how one would asses a garment of clothing or something they had to work with.

"In regards to learning Italian, I am being honest when I say he is a good resource. He speaks fluently, and his years at home have removed his accent when speaking. Knowing how to scream out daddy and various encouragements of salacious nature are all well and good, but you should really broaden your horizons."

He sipped the coffee once more.

"If you want to keep him that is. He won't stay if he loses interest or finds you-" Marlo shrugged, "-how to put it? He won't keep you, his eyes will wander, but if you want him to return to you, you best make yourself worth returning to. You understand?"

“Marlo, are you trying to make me blush?” She asked him, smiling as she took the coffee out of his hand. She blew the surface of the liquid and her breathe caused ripples across it. Taking a small sip, she exhaled and nodded her head in thanks. Ofelia he saw him looking at her, but remained still. The brunette was used to being assessed, being looked up and down by strangers. Being evaluated like an item rather than a person, and she was not shy about it. “I can give you a twirl if you like? Though I assure you, I have two arms and two legs, very mundane really.” She raised an eyebrow, bringing the coffee to her lips once more. What was he looking for? Though she was trying to keep the tone of the meeting light, it was starting to feel more like an interrogation? Or worse, a complete dismissal?

She shook her head at his words, slightly discouraged but trying not to show it.. “You really do not get it though.” She then looked at him, in the same way he was looking at her. She had told Elzo at new year's, she wanted nothing more than to get to know his family, to be accepted by the people who were dear to him. She was lacking behind on that resolution; but still wanted nothing more than to make that wish a reality. She wanted nothing as badly for Marlo to like her, or at the very least, not dislike her. ”I know this might sound strange, but has Elzo cooked for you this year?” She had not forgotten his wish either. Though what came next, it made her pause; -

She tilted her head to the side, placing the cup down on the surface of the table. “No, I can not say I do understand?” The brunette shrugged. Her tone was still light, but she has physically stiffened.

        “Please explain.”
PostPosted: Mon May 22, 2017 3:57 pm

He smirked at her, a look non too different than one his brother sported far too frequently.
"If I wanted you to blush Ofie, I'd not be standing across from you or speaking in English to you." He purposely lit his voice with the Italian pitch, not caring that had Elzo heard him, he'd be scolded for 'flirting'. Though, Marlo was rather just interested in Ofie as a person than anything else.

She was far too... soft for his taste. He preferred his women more aggressive.

Humming, the half drunk cup off cofee set down he walked to her circling her, looking her up and down in detail.
"You are plain." He said, finally.
"Plain, nothing about you stands out, you don't own or possess anything that would benefit my brother and yet here you are. His fondness for you and the reason behind it eludes me. You're unlike those he normally brings home and lets stay for a short while."

He went back to his coffee.
"Elzo never cooks." It was curt, Marlo only shrugged to the inquiry. His brother never cooked aside from basic things, and his skills were fairly poor. They'd grown to understand the kitchen was Marlo's domain.
"As for what I mean? Elzo isn't loyal. He might care for you for a time, but his affections wane and he eventually cuts his lovers off when they have started to become comfortable. He refuses to commit, and at best, you could perhaps coax him to being an on again off again lover."

Marlo sighed. This was always the difficult part of Elzo's women.
"You and him won't last."
Love came easy and the b*****d never stopped it from happening.

“Jeez, no holding back, huh? Ouch.” Ofie shifted uncomfortably in the chair. Brushing her hair over her shoulder. She had been called worse than plain, she could live with being boring in Marlo’s eyes. “Maybe I just don’t want to stand out? It gets rather tedious eventually, you know.” She had lived that life, wore evening gowns, had stylists dress her up like a doll; she was not about that life anymore. She had tried very hard to blend in, to go by unnoticed, his comment was just a testament to how well she had done. After all, you did not want to draw attention to yourself when you were on the street, when you walked down dark alleys in the middle of the night.

She turned to look at him, running her fingers through curls. Her necklace was tucked into her shirt, she had to distract her hands so she did not to reach for it. “I would not know, I have never asked about the women he brings home?” She had never really thought about what they looked like, or if he had an aesthetic that he leaned towards - it did not really matter. She loved Elzo, but would not change how she looked for him. She was plain, and understated and very casual in the way she dressed. It is what she found comfortable. He seemed to enjoy their dates to music shops, to artist markets, to museums and dance classes; she had never felt the need to impress him.

“Hmm.” No cooking? She would have to call him out on that. She reached for her coffee, holding the warm cup in her hand. Concentrating on its warmth, to try and contrast the younger brothers chilliness. “Marlo, If Elzo loses interest in me, what makes you think I would want to coax him back?” She asked, quite seriously? Fearing he had gotten the wrong idea. “I am sorry I have given you that impression, but, the truth is Elzo never promised me commitment. He only promised to try, and that is all I expect from him. If we do not last then… we don’t? And I would be sad, but I would not blame him?” She did not know how to answer that.

”Have I done something to upset you?”
PostPosted: Mon May 22, 2017 4:46 pm

Marlo snorted, shaking his head at her statement. If she had no idea of his blunt ruthlessness, she was in for a sharp awakening in that aspect.
"I only say what I know. You're plain, and easily replaced. Just as many women are. That is the nature of a man's lust." It was cold and a callous thing to say, but even Marlo had never seen his brother do much different from the narrative.

Marlo left the kitchen speaking as he expected Ofelia to follow him to the living room.
"You look at him like a woman in love Ofie. Even a man like me, who lacks a fair deal of experience in the matters of romance isn't blind to the obvious. You love him, which is just why I'd rather you understand that you will likely hurt yourself in time if you persist with a relationship with Elzo."

A deep sigh, the man went to the couch sitting down and pulling up his phone.
"He promised to try for you. That alone is a cause for concern. He's-" Marlo set the phone down, expression now visibly frustrated.
"Understand, I've saw what happened to him when he broke it off with his wife. Elzo, when he devotes himself to something or someone, does so to an unhealthy scale. The problem however, is that he lacks the capacity to maintain his emotional devotion in the face of termoil. He's self destructive."

Marlo groaned.
"It's a family curse. And no, you have not upset me, the situation upsets me."

“He does not talk about her much. His wife, it must have been hard. I am sorry.” Ofelia followed after him, into the living room, leaving her drink behind. She wrapped her arms around herself, and took a place next to him on the couch. The brunette looked as he pressed the buttons on his phone, directing her gaze elsewhere so he did not think she was snooping. Despite her best efforts to be pleasant, she seemed to be frustrating him. She was no good at this; no good at handling these kind of interactions.

“Marlo.” She sighed, looking back towards him. “Not all love means being with someone forever. I do love Elzo, and whatever demons haunt him, I do not want them to rule him. I think he deserves to be loved, even if it is for a short time, he should not be denied that? I do not think? Even if we just have a few months of happiness, that is enough. And I really want you to be happy for us.” He was trying to tell her something? She looked at him curiously. Listening to his words, but not knowing what he wanted her to do?

Was he telling her to leave? Or to just accept the inevitable. “It must be frustrating. But I can promise you Marlo, I am not blinded by my affections towards him, I understand that I am playing with fire. And I will accept the outcome. But between us, that is our decision to make.

What do you want me to do?”
PostPosted: Mon May 22, 2017 5:22 pm

Marlo looked at her, once more uncertain of where the woman stood. "Do not mention her to him. She's dead, and while he's had his years to grieve, he has not gotten over the loss."

That part of the conversation was over, his tone cold and sharp, it was clear. The subject of his ex-sister in law was not to be discussed further.

Another sigh, her question did bear a pause as he thought on an appropriate answer for her.
"I can't be happy for him." It was a bland answer and he attempted to elaborate. "Rather, I don't think I can be. Content with his choices and mental health, perhaps, but being happy for him in relation to his love life is difficult. It is less to do with his choice of partner but rather what I know of him. As the saying goes, I will believe it when I see it? If he is happy- I guess for a time I would be content with that."

He tapped his phone in his hand.
"Don't get pregnant should be obvious, but, do not push him to commit. If he will.. he will. For now he's attempting devotion towards you. That should say enough shouldn't it?"

“That has always been enough for me.” She nodded her head, placing her hand on the back of his just for a second before slowly pulling it away. The brunette was not going to push things, he had let up a little bit, and she would count it as a small victory.

She looked down at the phone in his hand once more, and then stood up. Holding her hands in front of her and giving a small bow of her head. “Thank you Marlo, I mean it.” Content, was also enough for her. The truth was she did not know what the future held, she did not know if or when this would end. However, she did know she was going to do her best. She was going to try and make Elzo happy, as long as she could. Because she did love him, and she believed him when he said he loved her back.

His last comment, well, it did get a small chuckle from her.

“And do not worry about that, we are very safe.” She shook her head in mild disbelief, before tilting it curiously, Elzo would still not be back for a while, but she supposed this would be a good time to shower, she did not want to push their first meeting to the point of it being uncomfortable, especially when she personally thought they had made progress, understood each other a little better?

“Is that all? If so I will excuse myself.”
PostPosted: Thu May 25, 2017 10:01 pm

Marlo looked up, a final critical gaze over her.

"You're excused." His eyes went back to his phone, opening another e-mail from his New York office. Seems he'd have to make a trip in a month or so.

"Oh and Ofelia?" Her full name.
"Do try to not break the headboard. It's annoying to replace."
