Melvin walked through towns on edge. On one end was the bar that always at least provided company or escape but made him feel ashamed due to his recent drunk night. On the other was Lawr's home (though he had invested enough in it that he wanted to say his home) that worried him if Lawr or Rodney was walking about. He had roamed the same neighborhood while going to the gym with Rodney or a walk with Lawr.
He was only here now to check out the old pool in town. He still kind of hoped in a twisted way to see Lawr but knew any words would be poisonous and hurt him.

Peyton was headed for the school building that sat in the center-ish part of the town when she happened to spot the familiar Life hunter wandering around. For a moment she watched him, head cocked to the side, arms draped over the crowbar that was slung over her shoulders. Her plan for the day had been to head in and hopefully clear the way for Caroline and her youngins to strt getting things cleaned up and laid out the way they wanted it. It hadn't been asked of her, but she was eager to help, and this seemed like a good way to do that. However, somethings just didn't go as planned. "Would you get over it already and stop following that creep around like a lost puppy?" She shouldn't have said anything, but Melvin's continued willful acceptance of Lawrence's psychopathic tendencies was really infuriating.

He spotted Peyton up on the path and was fully planning on saying absolutely nothing to her. Their last "conversation" on Twitter sealed it that she was nosey and didn't know anything yet LOVED to get into people's business. After everything, the last thing he needed was the queen of the peanut gallery to throw salt in every would that presented itself.
Already on the defensive, he drew nearer and tensed when she just couldn't help but keep her fat mouth shut. "There are more in towns than just Lawr, Peyton. How about you do the world a favor and take that crowbar you have and shove it up your a**. Add to the collection."

< Rude.> The dainty Sun stopped short, half turning to better face him. A part of her; the rational, kind side, told her to just let it go. That he'd been through enough. That her needling at him was just rubbing salt on already painful wounds. However, it was impossible to forget the belligerent, toxic sniping the Life hunter fired off at anyone that dared speak up, first against Lawrence, and now on the subject of what seemed to be a fairly nasty split(and who didn't see that coming?). Not to mention having willingly entered a relationship with a known sociopath. It was, quite frankly, a lot to swillow, and in the end, it all piled up to make it difficult to sympathize, even a little bit. So the other voice, the one that called for violence and pain, was just a little bit louder. "Oh right, like you didn't swing by peer through his windows. I'm so sure." It was cruel, and later she might feel bad about it, but right that moment it felt vindicated, the harsh words matching the cold smile and incredulous expression.

He knew his image anywhere was trash, and he had nothing left to be proud about. The compounded bitterness only made it easier to see he had nothing left to loose and even less to care about. Assured he knew how people saw him, there really wasn't any lower to go which gave a lot of space to do anything. Currently the anything on his list was shorted to the shot fuses and sparked wires of a frayed network of emotions.
And Peyton was just digging a fork in.
"It's my house Peyton. I can do what the ******** I want. What about you? Walking around with a crowbar and you call me suspicious. And what about your past? What happened to all those you ********? I don't see them milling around now? Stop talking like you are the pristine example. You're just some slut no one gives a ******** about."

She slung the crowbar in question across her shoulders, arms resting over it as her weight shifted from one hip to the other. "Oh, is it? You living in it?" A pale brow rose, and the smile just grew. Once upon a time she wouldn't have realized why she was baiting him, but a bit of self realization a couple years back had opened her eyes. She liked helping out. She liked being there for people and doing everything in her power to make things better for them. But. She liked this too.
"All those I ********? All two of them?" She gave an amused snort. "I'm sure they're off going about their day. Why would they be milling about? We aren't together, and I didn't play a head trip on them." She didn't mention Andy, not just because they were still a thing, but because her current monogamous sex life really didn't apply to this conversation much. "But I'm the slut, okay." The last came out so heavy with sarcasm the weight of it had her leaning forward.

Her smile bugged him. Her statement bugged him. No he wasn't living there. He wasn't ALLOWED to live in his own home. He wasn't able to so much as be let inside the one night he arrived drunk to their doorstep. He was more or less just some stray raccoon they didn't want dirtying their pretty carpet that he even helped install!
"Well then we are just on the same boat of the only people on the island then. If it's just two then where the hell do you get off pretending like you are some expert."
All of it wasn't aggression at Peyton coming off as perfect, she was just making herself an easy target. He liked targets.
It was something to shot at.
So he moved closer, egging her on. "Maybe they aren't with you because you're a b***h."

The Sun scoffed, head shaking as she lifted her gaze from the other hunter, as if the sky, or the ruins around them could provide some manner of logic or common sense. It didn't, she was apparently alone in reason. "Sure, maybe. I mean, I know that's not why, but for arguments sake, let's say you're right." He was getting closer, and her fingers, where they curled around the crowbar, tightened minutely. "If we had broken up because I was a b***h, then so what?" It's over and in the past, I moved on, they moved on. It's done." She says it like it should have been obvious, because to her it was. "They should be glad to be away from me, not pining to get back in my life." Pale eyes narrowed on him. "He's human garbage. He's pretty much wrecked your life. Why the ******** do you still want him?" It just didn't make sense to her. She understood carrying baggage away from a relationship, but this was just crazy. She hadn't understood it with Horace, and she didn't get it now.

The shove was hard as he pushed her back.
"You don't think I know that? That he's cruel. That he entertains himself in the most ******** of ways? That he hasn't done the unspeakable. Won't hesitate to do what he feels. Won't cheat and use and hurt? Everyone acts like I don't see it. I'm not in denial of that. I see it. I know."
"I know! I know it all! You don't. That there is more than that - and so the ******** what? Call him garbage! Maybe I'm ******** garbage! You look like trash too."
And he gave another shove at her to back away.

It shouldn't have been unexpected, but despite tending for it, Peyton hadn't really thought he'd descend to the physical. So for the first one she stumbled, nearly dropping the crowbar as her heel caught a chunk of lingering debris and threatened to send her back in her a**.
She caught herself though, and that long piece of steel was between them when he reached out again, blocking his hands and shoving back. Whatever space that'd make between them she claimed, stepping into his personal space and smacking the bar across his chest. "Then why the ******** do you still want him?" She did bother to respond to the garbage comment directed her way, what was the point? It wasn't but like she was squeaky clean.
"It's all an act, a lie! If he just that ******** good in bed? For ******** sack, Melvin. You can do better." She remembered, vaguely, what he'd been like before Rin had died. Not perfect, far from it, but not this.

"Can I?!"
He grabbed the crowbar between then. It was a barrier, a threat, and he knew she could clock him with it if she wanted to go that far. It was an advantage but also a possession she had that he wanted to get rid of.
So he grabbed it so he could throw it as far away as he could.
"There is truth between the lies no one sees. He has problems and who doesn't? Who the hell doesn't? But I wanted to be there. I wanted to stand by him. It's how I am. I'm an idiot like that!"
And he went to throw his weight into het.

Tanking the crowbars frim her hands would result in a low growl, lip curling in the first stirrings of a a snarl as she made a snatch for it, only to have him fling it it away from her. It had delicate dusts balling at her sides, knuckles whitening as she glared up at him. He was too close, and too angry, but she wasn't backing up either.
This time when he came in to shove at her she was ready for it, and those thin fingers grabbed handfuls of the front of his shirt, high and low. A step to the side, and she'd add force to his own momentum, swinging him around to shove him past her.
"There is no truth, Melvin!" She shouted it as she let him go, letting gravity and his own balance decide if he stayed in his feet or not. "He lied to Horace. He lied to you. He's lying to that dumbass husband he's tricked into marrying him! He's not caoabe of anything genuine."

His balance was twisted and he feel hard on his side, unable to brace himself quickly enough for the impact. Wincing, he held his side as he looked up from the plume of rising dust at her.
"There has to be truth there. There had to be something worth all of it." There had to be something to justify all he gave away.
He turned before kicking right at her legs, moving to try and pin her down.

She stared down at him as he cradled his side, expression hard to read. She felt bad for him, he'd been through so much already, and hurting him now made her feel a bit like a bully. However, he'd shoved her. He'd started this, and now that things had escalated this far, well. She couldnt say she wasn't a little relieved. Even excited.
It wasn't really Melvin she was angry at, but he made a wonderful stand in, and it had been just a little too quiet lately.
His leg snapped out, sweeping hers out from beneath her, and she went down with a startled grunt, barely keeping the back of her skull from bouncing off the pavement. Then he was over her, moving to grab at her arms, and she reacted automatically with the heel of her palm thrusting up at the underside of his chin.

The hard palm snapped under his jaw, making him bite his tongue before coughing. Tears easily sprang to his blue eyes, but his focus shot to her neck as he went to punch her once before wrapping his arms hands about it.
Nothing mattered. Everything hurt. Pain was one of his primary feelings now and he hated her and the world for giving him more than he could. He wanted her to break just as he was about to break.
To just shatter.
