Aari knew better than to go into town. Even if it wasn't the one her father lived in, he has sources all over Oba, and even beyond.
..but she couldn't say 'no' when little Halim had asked her to make him a new shirt. She had run out of materials recently, and decided that she could be stealthy enough to purchase more on her own rather than waiting for a trader to pass through the camp.. She wanted to pick it out herself, and there was so much more variety in town! She wasn't even going in to spar this time, so there was surely no need to worry.
With a scarf keeping her blue hair under cover to make her feel quite invisible, Aari explored the town market for the linen section, happily perusing the various bolts of cloth when she reached them. When she reached for one of the bolts further back in the stall, the merchant's hand reached out to grab her wrist, making her jump with surprise, legs turning to jelly.
"I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away for long," the man crooned, other arm reaching up to push Aari's shawl out of the way. "A little lady like you would never make it on her own. Your father seemed doubtful, but I remember meeting you before. You can't live without the luxury you have here, no. Come along with me, and I'll take you home. Your father is most concerned."
At first, Aari just froze, listening to that confident voice. Of course she had known better, but now that this was happening.. "N-no!" she gasped out, rather ineffectively trying to pull back out of the firm grasp. "I-I won't go!" She'd been training! She knew what to do! Yet.. here she was, panicking and only tugging away like the damsel she had been trying to not be.

It was a hot day out, typical for Oba, so Qoraekai had his hood up as he traveled through the markets. Sure it got him quite a few suspicious looks but he'd take the suspicious looks over a bad sun burn any day. With his skin as it was, he had just learned to ignore people when it came to things like that. He had come to the market to get some things for Irro who was quite frankly mad that he wouldn't let her just go herself. Qora had heard rumors that the crescents had some members in this town so that meant he wasn't going to let Irro anywhere near it. With that on his mind, the oban almost swore aloud as he heard a feminine voice shout in distress thinking that his stubborn wife had decided to go out on her own anyway. Instead, it was a hybrid who seemed to be in some sort of trouble at a fabric merchant. She had oban skin, but blue hair. The man who seemed the altercation was with had her held rather roughly which made Qora's eyes narrow at him. He wasn't sure what was going on as all he had heard was "No, I won't go." Surely someone wouldn't say that if they were stealing, though, having stolen things in the past to survive he had no room to judge. Walking up to the pair, he eyed the man. He was a lot heftier than Qora was himself so helping in any manner would be a little difficult. Qora knew he would have to depend on the size difference and his speed if he were to do anything. First though, he'd try to get a handle on the situation. "Is everything okay here, Miss?" He asked sternly. His hands retreated back into his cloak to grasp the daggers on his waist, just in case. Cornetified I figured we'd do another post or two with the NPC before Qora goes all hero-ish. lol

The man stood with absolute authority, glaring down anyone who looked at them even curiously. "As I said, your father is most concerned. You should not disgrace him in such a way; so publicly."
Aari tried to firm her voice up. "I-I said no!" Wincing at how her voice wavered, she flinched back when another voice entered the scene. She looked over with surprise, cheeks flushing slightly. She opened her mouth to speak, but the merchant quickly spoke over her.
"Everything is just fine," he growled, giving Aari a little tug as though to block her from view of the intruder. "A mere domestic dispute, I assure you. Your concern is admirable, boy, but not necessary here."
Pressing her lips, Aari took a deep breath and tried to peek around the big man. "It is not o-ah!" Her exclamation turned into a squeak when her captured wrist was squeezed again, cutting her words short.

"I agree." Qoraekai said to the merchant. It was a domestic dispute and this time he was going to be both judge and jury. Especially after he heard the poor girl try to reply to him only to issue a squeak in pain. Swiftly, he started moving. A foot came down on the merchant's foot as hard as he could to try and make the man double over. It seemed to work as them man hunched forward ever so slightly only to be met with an elbow between the xiphoid which made him double back the other way. He took that loss of balance and grabbed the man's arm and twisted it behind his back while with his other hand grabbed a dagger from his hip and put it to the man's throat. "Consider this dispute settled. Now, if you would kindly let the woman go, we'll be on our way and you can continue doing business." His voice was almost sickeningly sweet and he hoped he didn't scare the poor girl but he just wanted to at least help get free. Cornetified sorry for taking so long owo

Cheeks flushing with embarrassment, Aari tried to look around for something to use to her advantage while the big man was distracted. She gasped sharply when her arm was suddenly tugged, wrist being squeezed even harder. She was shocked to see the stranger had leapt into action, the pull on her wrist only an involuntary reaction to the pain the man felt.
The man gasped for air, feeling stings in his body and his pride. "You will come to regret this," he panted out, tightening his hold on Aari in anger before pushing her away from him. "The both of you! I suggest you both make yourselves very scarce around here..." Now he just had to be sure none of his associates had seen him nearly catch the girl only to be foiled by this lad...
Aari gave one last yelp as her wrist got yet another squeeze before being shoved away. She nearly tripped over her own feet in surprise, but found her balance quickly, unable to help staring at the pale stranger in awe. Why.. had he done that? She would have to ask that later though. She yanked her scarf back up over her head and backed away to be sure she was outside the angry man's reach...

Once the girl was out of the man's reach, Qoraekai quickly moved his blade and pushed the vendor forward to make sure he had at least a couple of seconds to make a get away without the man being able to grab him. He, regardless of what it might appear, put his arm around the girl's shoulders and pulled her along with him as best as he could away from the vendor and out of the busy streets. As soon as it seemed that they were in the clear, he slowed to a stop. "Well, at least now I can collect the reward myself." His face was serious for only a fraction of a second before he laughed. "I tease. I'm Qoraekai. Honestly, I don't know what trouble you've gotten yourself in..." Qora put his hands, palm out, in the air. "But from how the man was handling you it didn't seem warranted. I apologize if I overstepped."

Aari glanced over her shoulder at the man bent over the ground, checking the various places of his body. Oh, they would be so mad at her in camp if they found out...
Looking at the new man with wide eyes, she spent that fraction of a second in the grip of fear. From one horrible man to another?! How dismal was her luck?! A nervous laugh escaped her once the facade was revealed, but her trembling hands took a little longer to calm down, eyes watering slightly. She needed to get stronger...
"It.. was not trouble of my doing, I assure you." After all, she hadn't decided to be born! She hadn't wanted to be kidnapped! ...She had attacked her father and that greasy prospect, but that was defensive! Frowning, she raised her sore arm to look at her wrist. The joint was throbbing, and the skin already darkening into obvious bruising. Covering it with her other hand, she held her wrist to her chest and shook her head. "No, I appreciate your help. I am Aari, and I cannot thank you enough for your help."
After a hesitant moment, she looked up at Qora eagerly. "How did you learn to fight like that?" she blurted out, bashful but dying to know.

Qora had seen the fear in her eyes and he regretted his small joke. Irro probably would have smacked him if she had seen the look of fear he made that girl have. "Ah, I apologize. I had not meant to scare you." He nodded his head. As he had thought, the girl said she wasn't to blame for anything and he actually believed her. Maybe he was gullible or had a soft spot but he genuinely thought she was telling the truth. "Well it's a pleasure to meet you, Aari. And please, the pleasure is mine." Her next question was a bit more difficult, especially given the look in her eyes. "I was trained, though, not by great people. They trained me mostly in classic weapons and some hand to hand. Not extensively, but enough to be able to learn other things on my own. But being out on these streets, you kind of need a little bit of knowledge." He could tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted to know how but she just looked so...delicate. Which maybe meant that she needed it even more. He sized her up, from her head to her toes and back again. She looked like she could have some potential but he'd never really taught anyone before...would he be able to if that's what she wanted?

Aari shifted her eyes away bashfully. "It is alright. I was just still a little shaken from before.." She was certain that there really was a reward on her head, and Qora's tease had just been too close to home after such a heated moment.
By not great people? What Qoraekai been involved in? On the streets... Lips pressing, she couldn't help looking down at herself. Though no longer a dolled-up noble, she was certainly no street kid either. Taking a deep breath, she looked back up at her rescuer with a determined expression. "Please, take me to your teachers." Great or not, she wasn't getting what she apparently needed to survive from the lessons she had. More training from those who had experience as well.. it would surely be useful. Besides, she couldn't ask to be a burden on Qoraekai himself! He had already saved her. He'd done more than enough in her view, and surely had other responsibilities.

The girl's bashful look made him feel even worse, but not as bad as what her next request was. Qora took a step back, his head shaking slightly. "Sorry, but I can't do that. I can't put you in that kind of position, stranger or no. You'd probably be better off going home to your father and I don't even know what that situation is."The oban turned slightly so that he wasn't directly facing the girl as he thought. With a sigh, he turned back, palms once more facing forward, the crescent moon scars on his palms easily visible now. "They're basically a cult. A cult that believes in...well, who knows what they actually believe in. They made me do this for a ritual that they thought would solve all that is wrong in the world and return my pigment. Obviously it didn't work so it was completely my fault and I was kicked out, with nothing, bleeding and all by myself. You don't want to go there, hon."

Aari's eyes widened slightly at the urgent rejection, cheeks heating at the mention of her father. Oh.. so it was that kind of not great. Brow knitting as the scars were revealed, she looked beyond the hands to the man in front of her. Pigment? She couldnt help herself when she reached out to gently take one of his hands, fingertips brushing over the pale skin curiously. "You.. are not partially of Sauti then?" she asked quietly, having assumed he was a hybrid.
Her eyes narrowed with irritation, and a sharp snort escaped her. "I suppose they would try to find some way to get more of Oba into my hair and eyes." She looked back up at Qora's eyes. "Could... Would you teach me then? Just a few things?"

He laughed but there was a tad bit of nervousness with it. "No, though it is a common assumption. I was born without any pigment in my skin. My crystals seemed to have retained some of the gold that is typical of Obans. I'm a pure oban though." Qora always forgot about the people of Sauti, he could easily say he was a hybrid but sometimes that wasn't always a good thing. With her comment about the cult he laughed heartily. "They would indeed." The albino bit his lip as he thought, should he accept her and teach her something? Would that be responsible or irresponsible of him? Would he even be able to teach her? Well, Qora supposed it would be good practice for when his unborn children would likely want to learn and it would likely be close to if he had to teach his wife how to fight too. He nodded firmly, "I'll teach you what I can...it seems you need to know something with whatever you've got in your past." He eyed her again, wondering where to start.

Aari's shoulders slumped with relief when Qora agreed to help. She hoped she would be able to pick up on what he was teaching; she certainly didn't want to be a burden on him for too long. The mention of her past and the careful gaze on her made her quickly drop her eyes, arms pressing to her sides. "My past is indeed a concern.. but I wish to learn to defend my future. That is my main objective."

"A very wise response." Qora noted to his new companion. "So, Aari, one of the most important things when fighting is your stance. If you don't have a good stance, you'll be easily knocked off balance and lose any edge you might have had." He stopped and stepped a little closer to her. His feet were now shoulder width apart and his knees were slightly bent. "So you want to have a good base, so you keep your feet shoulder width apart and your knees slightly bent. That'll help you keep your balance and be ready to act. See, now if I push you, should be able to keep your balance." He leaned towards her and gave her a small shove. Nothing that would hurt her if she fell but enough to teach her a lesson.

Aari couldn't help a flush of delight. Such compliments were few ever since coming to Oba. Shaking off her absurd pleasure, she focused her gaze on Qora's lesson. Right here and now? Well, when else was she expecting? Better to do it now and get out of Qora's hair.
She parted her feet and bent her knees, copying the position she was being shown. She saw the shove coming, but still needed to take a couple steps back to stay upright. Pressing her lips, she recovered the lost ground and positioned herself again with her feet braced a little better. "Please, again."
