Large chunks of glass flying off the standard-sized glob he was handed at each of his sessions with Iagan seemed like progress to Teslaron. Because most of that was surely excess, and it didn't need to be there taking up his work space, anyway. But after patient, repeated explanations that braking a large, misshapen piece of glass into smaller misshapen pieces of glass wasn't really standard practice, Tes tried to adopt a new method, with varied success.

Some days he was still very excited and eager for the finish, so it was harder not to be sloppy and ruin everything he worked on. Those were what Iagan considered 'bad days, and they were hardly worth the money and time Teslaron gave him.

But every once in a while, if they were very lucky, they would have a small string of 'good days,' in which Tes looked and even felt lazier in regards to his progress. If he didn't finish his task right away, or even on the day it was assigned, that wasn't such a big deal. If he went slow and took his time and maybe didn't care about the actual outcome, things turned out better. If he could convince himself to work on one thing over a handful of days, rather than just one, the quality actually turned out better. These were few and far between, but they were 'good days' just the same.

It was one such day. One such day, where Tes realized that he could work with a blade to shave off just flecks of unneeded glass at a time, rather than smashing everything to bits with a hammer. He wasn't quiet or reserved on these days, but he did seem more relaxed and content enough to sit on the sand tucked behind Iagan's stall and make idle chatter while he clipped away at his project.

"Not looking too bad today, Tes," Iagan grunted as he peered over the Water boy's shoulder and down at what was the beginnings of a good-enough lens.

The edge of Tes' blade skimmed the surface, creating a small, but noticeable concave dip in the surface of the glass. He didn't answer right away, and when he did, it admittedly wasn't with a question he'd actually thought of before. "How do I know who it will work for?" He asked, turning the still-jagged lens over in his hand. "My ladies say they 'can't see,' but I don't really know what that means for them."

"Suppose you don't," Iagan shrugged. "All people are different, all their problems are different, and they all need different fixes. It's harder to make something like this for someone, so sometimes you just need to be content that it could be useful for someone." It wasn't the answer Tes wanted. He didn't care about anyone else's problems. He just wanted to fix Dris and Lila's. But there wasn't much to be done about it now. Iagan handed him a rough slab of crystal. "That bit there, why don't you shine it up, and I'll show you how to fit it into a frame. Dunno if it'll work for your girls, but, for once, looks like something you've made could work for someone."
