It was all of three days spent with Iagan when Teslaron realized that he had yet another issue with the entirety of this process. It was one of which he thought about often, but had yet to vocalize due to the fact that he had been a consumer. He didn't think his current role coincided with that. He considered himself more of a student at this point, and in Teslaron's opinion, that ought to have granted him a few more liberties.
"Why do I still have to pay for supplies?" He groused as he passed the Yaeli merchant a days' worth of coin that Tes hadn't been the one to earn in the first place. It would've been one thing if it was his to give away, but Dris'rynne's mercenary work tended to bring in a lot more money than Tes' petty thieving attempts... And having so little to show for the sheer amount of her coin that he'd handed to this man was... slightly disheartening, to say the least.
Outright unacceptable, at worse. Especially since he hadn't told her anything about it. Tes doubted his woman would take it especially well, even if his intentions were good enough. But it wasn't like they had a great deal to spare and for all intents and purposes, he was as good as throwing it away every time he messed up a craft.
Keeping it secret was easier.
"Why?" Iagan grunted in repetition. "I'm not getting anything else out of it, am I? You're using my wares, my shop as a base, my tools now that you know a bit more, taking my time, learning my lessons... I suppose you could make your own glass and teach yourself. There's enough sand out in the desert, and I'm sure you've got the time." He said it very casually, as if he didn't care one way or another, but his gaze was focused intently on Tes, daring him to agree.
They both knew he wouldn't. At this point, he was interested in convenience, not cost. Adding the extra steps of setting up a workshop and gathering materials was too tedious and time-consuming for him. Besides, having those types of tools where his young daughters could find them didn't sound appealing. With thir mother's work, Tes wasn't especially interested in adding any other forms of excitement into their lives.
He grunted stiffly, but nodded just the same. "Con artist," he accused.
Iagan didn't seem to mind, and even if he was trying to genuinely teach Teslaron something now, they had met while the man was touting a "magic" cure for poor eyesight. Tes understood that that was far from the case now, but he was still hopeful that it could at least improve, if not perfect Lila's poor vision... Iagan hadn't told him it wouldn't, so that seemed good enough.
Still, nothing he'd made this day or any other would be of use to her. He was learning, and he didn't try to push for immediate perfection as much as he wanted to, but he was quickly learning that the intricacies of crafting this particular accessory might be out of his reach.
