It had been months since Ilian had had even a chance to talk to the other teen that lived in the apartment close to his own, which he felt was kind of really bad since he’d sort of agreed to be the other boy’s friend. And this was probably the very reason he didn’t have any friends; because he was too busy to try and make plans with anyone.
Even though he didn’t have school to worry about, he devoted all of his time to working and the Negaverse, and the rare bits of time he had when he was not making himself get some sleep, he was playing the piano or writing music.
He had a new blank music book, courtesy of Cassadega, and he had every intention of keeping it nice and organized and turn his chicken scratch into what might look like actual music notes. And maybe then someone else would be able to read and play his pieces.
Ilian took advantage of the warm weather after the freak snow they all got. It was sunny out, so the park was an excellent place to sit and transcribe his music into his new book. And as long as people didn’t bother him, like they were known to do, he thought he could get a lot done.
Unless he distracted himself.
At first glance he didn’t pay any attention to the other teen that seemed to be walking past, but upon a second look, he realized it was his neighbor.
"Benji!" he called out before he had a chance to think about how maybe the other was busy or didn’t want to be bothered, quickly gathering up his pages from the park bench so he could take a few jogging steps after him.
"Hey, it’s been a while," he greeted. "I feel like I see your mother at least once a week. Those cookies she made were amazing. She’s been a real life saver." xKapoodles Sorry for the delay! Let me know if this is okay or if you'd like me to edit anything!!

Exhaustion had seeped in deep into every single cell in Benji's body, or atleast that's what it felt like. The end of the year was approaching fast, and he felt himself weighed down heavily not only by that, but by his senshi life as well.
He hardly had any friends as well at this time, finding himself accidentally alienated by both his peers and allies, through no fault but his own. He had retreated willingly into the background to let others come forward. Despite his loud and boisterous self, his anger often times got in the way and he found himself alone once again.
That was alright, or so he told himself to ease that pain of being alone more and more. It wasn't as if there weren't a number of things he should be doing anyway. There were finals to look forward to, the end of the year projects, and yes, his nightly patrols as Chara. And while those were atleast entertaining in the beginning, they began to weigh down on him deeply, Especially since encountering that terrifyingly powerful Alkaid, and Haumea who simply treated him like a weak and scared child with their taunts.
He wouldn't give in, he couldn't, but it still weighed heavy in his mind. Even now, as he walked through the part, heading towards his school once again to check on some data readings. Just because he was exhausted as ******** didn't mean he could allow himself to slack off. So wrapped up in his own mind he was, going over calculations and estimates in his head, that he didn't realize just who called his name and immediately snapped out at them.
"What?!" He accidentally growled out, used to his name being called for only more taunts at the school he attended. You'd think a school like HITS wouldn't have bullies but you'd be surprise. Especially with the eye patch Benji now wore to hide his glass eye that was just a bit too small in his head so liked to roll around at times. Rather than give into taunts again and be kicked out of the school, he decided to just ignore them and hide the blasted fake thing as much as he could. Patchy the Pirate was still a sorespot though. But when he saw who it was, his scowl immediately softened and a look of apology took its place.
"Oh, Ilian, hey... Sorry about that, just got too caught up in my own head." There was a brief attempt at a smile, but it faded quickly, returning to the usual resting b***h face he tended to have. It had been months since he last saw the other teen, but he couldn't blame him at all. He was sure that that other boy that came in and out of Ilian's apartment was much better company anyway. It wasn't as if Benji wasn't glad to see him, he was just tired and hopefully Ilian could see that. Not that it was truly anything to be expected from someone he had only spoken to once.
"Yeah, my mom told me you were doing well, all things considered. I think she's pretty proud of you." His mom did mention the boy downstairs every now and then, getting minor gossipy updates from the landlady now and then, but it wasn't much.
"How are you doing? Whatchu doing out here anyway?"
Guine Nope, this works just fine, thank you!

Ilian came to a dead stop as Benji growled at him, having not expected a reaction like that. And then he realized it wasn’t really meant for him. He frowned a bit, wondering what could have caused the other to get caught up with things like that. He didn’t blame him for being on the defensive, though. Sometimes that was better.
“It’s fine,” he shook his head to make sure the other knew he wasn’t upset. It happened, sometimes. He adjusted the notebook under his arm as he looked the other boy over. Benji was shorter than him, but they were the same age, so that was good, right?
“I was writing. Well, composing, I guess. Trying to get my thoughts down before I forget,” he explained, holding up the notebook with music notes scribbled across the pages. He felt bad for not seeing the other in so long, but what with everything he’d been involved with, it was hard to have a social life.
“Are you just heading home from school?” Ilian asked, and shifted his notebook to tuck under his arm again. “You look kinda stressed out, you know. Are you okay?”

"Thanks." Benji did appreciate the quick understanding of his mood Ilian gave, and really wished he could shake it all off, but he couldn't. There was a simmering unease under his skin that wouldn't settle down but at least he could pretend everything was alright. He wasn't the best actor in the world, but hey, maybe just good enough to fool Ilian.
At the mention of composing, he drew closer, giving the book a curious peek, as if the cover could tell him countless things or that he could understand music from proximity alone. Sadly, that was not the case, but it was still interesting enough, and he smiled a little bit at the thought.
"That's pretty cool. I remember you sitting outside and doing that before. Does the fresh air help? Well, fresh'ish, as fresh as you can get in the city. Sadly, not heading home yet. If I were, I'd ask to hear you play something you wrote. I'm heading back to " For as much as he was stressed, he really did find the idea of music being written AND played by someone he knew would be an interesting break from his mind numbing routine. If he could afford some time and the other was willing. Naw, probably not, surely Ilian was way too busy to deal with the likes of him anyway.
Another few words were going to come from him, compliments that were sincere but lacked his normal enthusiasm, and maybe a horrible self deprecating joke or two, but he stopped, growing quiet after Ilian asked him how he was. And he stayed quiet for a few awkward seconds before slowly shaking his head.
"Not really, no..." He finally sighed, his awkward smile falling to show a simply defeated look. "I won't complain about it or make it awkward, though. You got other s**t to deal with, I'm sure. What are you up to these days any?"

Ilian could tell that Benji was uneasy about something, although what it was he wasn’t sure. There were a lot of things they didn’t know about each other, but Benji seemed to be a bit more, well, emotional than others. He put everything into everything he had, which was kind of like Ilian with his efforts, but his emotions were at least better controlled. Or at least what he could manage of controlling his emotions.
"Yeah, I’ve been doing it since I was little. Getting out of the house was always better than being stuck inside with people bothering you," he said watching the way Benji still seemed rather distressed. "I like being outside. My brother said it was better to get ideas flowing, anyway. What with the birds and wind and all that, I guess." Of course, there were a lot of things Sorin had said to him that he wondered if they were really true or if it was just to try and make him feel better, feel normal.
"I don’t mind if you complain," he shrugged, shifting the notebook under his arm as he watched the other teen. "I’ve just got work to deal with, really. Started a new job working at the same retail place Lovely works. Uh… Lovely’s my roommate," Ilian mumbled, wondering how much of Lovely’s made up story about him being his boyfriend got around from when he had to break into Ilian’s apartment when he’d been kidnapped and was missing.

"I get that, makes sense. That's why I like to garden and what not. No one bothering you, just... Peace. Never seems to be alot of that these days, I think. You brother was a smart dude." He'd have to agree with Ilian, he'd much rather be outside than inside anyday. Maybe even one day he'd finally get to leave this hellhole of a city when peace came, and he could just live happily in some rural place. A farm maybe. Or some sort of cabin in the woods where he would have a simple quiet greenhouse and just... Quiet.
Music would be welcome though. Maybe a few people to see every now and then. Heh, like anyone would really come though.
He took his mind off of such sour thoughts to instead rake his mind to see if that name was familiar. It wasn't. Maybe his mom knew.
"Lovely, huh? Didn't know you had a roommate. Had he always been there, and me just being that blind, or is it a recent thing?" He paused, arm coming up to readjust his own bag on his back. "It's none of my business though. I hope he's atleast a somewhat decent roommate."
A quiet sort of awkwardness came over him for a few moments, struggling to find what to say next without it feeling forced. In the end, he just sighed.
"I just really need a ******** break. Do you have some time now? I'm heading to HITS to get some documents and look at my plants and wouldn't mind if you... Uh... Came along. There's a grand piano in one of the fancy a** lounge areas if you want to see it or something..." Pausing again, Benji reached up, absently fiddling with the edge of his hair and trying not to seem so desperate for company, but s**t, he failed.
"Ugh, I'm sorry, this is awkward, isn't it...? You really don't have to come if you don't want to."

Ilian shrugged when Benji mentioned how he didn’t realize he had a roommate. Thankfully Benji didn’t seem the type to keep up with the gossip that went around in the complex, which meant that he hadn’t heard all the other rumors about Lovely being his boyfriend or something. As if that was a good enough excuse for anyone to break into someone’s apartment.
In Lovely’s defense, he had been making sure Ilian wasn’t dead or injured.
“He’s been there for a while, since after I was - “
He paused, not really wanting to recount the things that had happened to him the time he’d been kidnapped. He cleared his throat and shook his head. “Since I came back from the hospital that time before… so maybe a year I guess,” he explained feeling a little foolish for it all.
Ilian wasn’t sure if Benji really wanted his company or if he was just being polite, but the mention of a grand piano had him perking up a bit.
“Wait, like a real grand? Not a baby?” he asked, his eyes wide with interest. “I wouldn’t mind. I mean, even if there’s not a piano. If you’d like. I don't think it's awkward.” Because like it or not, Ilian was kind of lonely too.

"... When did you... s**t, I didn't know you were there... Or did I? ******** s**t, I'm sorry man, if I had known, I would have taken my head out of my a** for a second to make sure you were okay... At least he was there, I'm glad for that." Benji began to feel even more shitty than he had before, since he had been the one to initiate wanting to be friends, yet here he was, so out of the loop he didn't even known his friend was in the hospital... What sort of shitty a*****e was he..?
For a moment, Benji thought Illian was just going to give him a weird look then make up some excuse so he could walk away. And to be honest, he wouldn't blame him. As hard as he tried, Benji still was an intense person to be around, his gaze stuck in a permanent scowl, and it came out looking even more intense now that heavy bags seemed to have taken up permanent residence in his face. Right now, however, with Ilian's curiosity and his eyes going wide, he smiled. Maybe today wouldn't be so bad and lonely like the others.
"Yeah... It's nice, and the chorus instructor keeps it tuned, but no one really knows how to play in my field. Like, I don't even know why it's on the way to the greenhouse, but it's there. Maybe it's because of the way the lighting is there, it's like this giant pavilion looking space but enclosed inside, with air conditioning. I think you'd look amazing playing on it, so let's go." Seeing that Ilian had picked up everything already, he reached out to give his shoulder a light pat, then beckoned him forward to follow. "The school isn't too far away... Did I tell you it's my last year? I'm going to be headed to DCU in the fall... If I don't get into anymore fights and what not to ruin my scholarship..."

”You knew. Or at least your mom knew. She sent you down food,” Ilian reminded Benji, not thinking it was that big of a deal if he forgot. It was already a year ago and Ilian tried to forget about it. Being tortured and hoping to die to get away from the pain wasn’t something to really bring up in normal conversation.
“I’ve thought about going to school for music, but I can’t really afford it. I’m just trying to make sure I can pay for rent and food. One day I’d like to start recording some of my music, though. My father was really good. I don’t remember much, but he taught me and my brother, and then my brother taught me when he could,” Ilian explained as he followed Benji.
“Yeah, don’t ruin your scholarship. That’s great that you were given one. I’m not really sure how to even apply for scholarships, but maybe I’ll figure it out once I turn eighteen this year.” Kapoodles I'm so sorry I let this one slip away! They can chat and we can wrap if you'd like! <3

"s**t... So that's why all of a sudden..." Benji didn't know many things when it came to people, and that time, when they first met, he was forced to do it, and didn't know the reason why. Ilian turned out to be a pretty cool guy, but.. All of that, he didn't know, his own head always too far up his own a** to think about things back then. Things had changed, but it didn't help the guilt he felt for just not knowing.
He shook his head briefly, thankful for the change of subject, but that gross feeling of guilt still lingered as they reached the school and he scanned his badge to let the other in.
"Well... We have some recording stuff around here... Maybe we could ask one of these days... I dunno, I want to help somehow. And I can def show you how to do the scholarship thing. Once you do two or three, you'll be a pro." Again, he patted Ilian's shoulder, guiding him into the building slightly and letting the door close behind them. "Imagine, recording your playing, making a youtube video or some s**t... Getting you famous and then before I know it, bam, You're the most famous person in DC. Hehe, that'd be grand, wouldn't it? Come on, let's go, I'm now riled up to hear you play!"
Guine NO worries~ This will be a wrap up for me! Thank you! biggrin
