Name: Fi'o
Age: 34
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual/Homoromantic
Weyr: Other
Rider Rank: Hired Thug Bouncer
Previous Rank/Craft: Wingrider
Physical Description: x
At 6'1" with an angular body type and athletic build that lacks traditionally feminine assets, combined with a square face and a strong nose that's been broken more than once, Fi'o has an overall androgynous look, one she embraces instead of trying to sway it one way or the other. Her dark brown hair is cut asymmetrically, cropped close on one side and left shoulder-length on the other and often adorned with several small, beaded braids. Her clothing choices tend towards practical, but usually leave her tan and well-muscled arms bare. Her eyes are a dark gray-blue.

Personality:
Fi'o is and always will be a harsh, combative individual, although to what degree varies from situation to situation, or on the kind of day she's having. It can manifest as anything from snarky words to actual, physical combat, which she absolutely relishes. Over time, she's gained the restraint and sense not to start fights just because she can, but given enough of a reason she's more than happy to start something (or jump in and finish it). She's at her most even-tempered when she's working, and adept at knowing where to draw the line; some situations merely require an inimidating presence or veiled threat, while others need an open threat or a little force...or her favorite, a lot of force. When she's not working, though? She is absolutely one to start a barfight, or brawl over a gambling loss.

As ruthless as she can be, however, she is unwaveringly loyal to those who have earned her allegiance or friendship, though she's a difficult person to get to know in the first place, suspicious of strangers - particularly of other riders - and tends to be guarded and closed-off, deflecting unwanted attempts to get close to her with barbed words. It can takes months for someone to make the gradual transition from acquaintance to friendly acquaintance, let alone true friend. With those very few she becomes close to, Fi'o's harsh demeanor softens somewhat, and she is an incredibly loving and supportive partner and very protective of her friends. Betray her loyalty, though, and she will never forgive you. She does have a soft spot for the obviously helpless, for children and damsels in distress who need saving...of course, this being Bitra, the distress is only genuine maybe half the time. She knows it, too, but as tough as she is, she's not heartless, and she'd rather be out a few marks or up a few bruises than risk turning away someone who might really need help.

Positive Trait List tough, protective, loyal
Negative Trait List combative, suspicious, harsh

History:
Finora grew up an orphan in Nabol, though whether her parents were dead, didn't want her, or just couldn't afford her is a mystery, and one she's never given much thought to at that. Truth be told, she doesn't even know exactly how old she is, and has a poor sense of the timeline of her own life up until she was Searched, as she had greater concerns than the passage of time. She was recruited into a minor streetgang fairly early on, a group that consisted mainly of pre- to mid-teens and was headed by a man named Nagris, who mostly used his recruits to steal for him, and of course kept the proceeds (or what was left after he paid off those who needed to be paid off to allow him to run his operation in relative peace). As the little gang got older, they got scrappier, with the bigger and tougher kids like Finora evolving from cutpurses to muggers. They - or Nagris at least - did well enough, but Nagris thought they could still do better. They needed more muscle: muscle like a wher, although that would cost money he was reluctant to part with. He tried sending an older boy to steal an egg, but it was a mission that ended very poorly for the boy.

It was about that time that a Searchrider came to Nabol, and Nagris had yet another brilliant idea: shard whers, they would be set if they had a dragon. All he had to do was get one of his kids Searched, they'd come back with a dragon in a turn or so, and he could hire the pair out. It was a mad plan on paper, but it sort of worked. Almost. Of the lot of them dispersed amongst the crowd, Finora was plucked out alongside a couple of other Hold children, though she was far from pleased by the turn of events; she, for one, would have quite liked to have a wher, especially a fighting one.

Still, regular meals and baths were a welcome change, and though she was always amongst the loudest to complain about them, she enjoyed most of the lessons. Old habits died hard, though, and she was punished once for stealing early on, and for minor scraps. One escalated into a brawl, which led to her being barred from Standing for what would have been her first Hatching. That finally got through to her...not in the sense of instilling that violence was bad, but that the reward wasn't always worth the risk. From that point on, while she wasn't pleasant by any means, snark replaced beating people up for the remainder of her time in the Weyr. A turn or so later, she finally got to Stand, and sauntered away from the Sands with brown Ivanhoth, calling herself Fi'o from that day on (shaff you, conventions, Finora was a stupid name and she never liked it anyway).

Another turn later and she was free to go back to Nabol with her dragon, completing Nagris' ridiculously unlikely plan, but...why? Why take her Ivanhoth back to that greedy a** so he could use them to further line his pockets? Screw that, they'd line their own! Fi'o and Ive hared off to work as hired muscle, drifting from place to place for awhile before making themselves comfortable in Bitra as a seriously intimidating pair of bouncers. Over time, they carefully built their reputation and notoriety, and they now work for a high-end entertainment house that's both brothel and gambling hall. Fi'o couldn't be happier: she lives in what to her is luxury, and gets paid to look scary and occasionally rough someone up. And as long as His is happy, Ivanhoth has few complaints, especially since he's exceptionally well-fed and much fussed over by the other employees, who regard him as a sort of mascot. He does worry, now that Thread has returned, that perhaps they should fight it, but...they are so comfortable. What's wrong with just staying and being happy?

Other: In hindsight, I may have chosen a logistically impractical profession for them that may need adjusting. xP And I can alter Ivanhoth's name a little if it's too silly a dragon name?

DRAGON
Name: Ivanhoth
Age: 19
Color: Brown
Size: 33'
Physical Description:
Ivanhoth is not a dragon who would ever win a dragon beauty contest. 'Short and stout' describes him very well, or if you're being less kind about it, squat. He's small for a brown, and his legs and snout are a bit short for his size, though his hind legs are exceptionally powerful. He's a burly, pudgy little fellow, with long headknobs that don't quite fit the rest of him. He's sort of cute, in his own chunky little way. Very dark brown with lighter toes.

Personality:
Ivanhoth is very visually oriented when it comes to interactions of any sort. The small brown has a habit of wanting to know what is going on, especially when it comes to dramatics. Loud noises especially cause him to enter on a scene, though he is very careful to be very polite. Rather than bursting in and attempting to take control of a situation, the brown instead asks if help is needed. If he is refused, he will turn away. This unfortunately means that he has a poor time being friends with anyone who tells him to go away when they really want his attention. In fact, Ivanhoth usually takes exactly what people tell him to do to heart, no matter what their outward appearance suggests. (While that green may sound like she's crying, she has said she is perfectly happy, so there's nothing to do here!).

For this reason, Ivanhoth tends to have the easiest time with people that tell him exactly what they honestly feel. He is very inclined to want to please people, and if they request help of him, or need someone to talk to, Ivanhoth is there all the way. He's the type of dragon you can really count on to listen and not talk if you need it, and he has a tendency to look on the positive side of life. He seems to believe that there is always a silver lining, and will discover it and tell it to you. It is, in some ways, almost an intellectual challenge for the brown.

Ivanhoth is very easy-going due to his ability to take what is told to him exactly. If there is no given answer to a situation, Ivanhoth takes a great deal of faith from what others have told him in the past, and he is not afraid of asking something he is not sure of. There is very little shame in this dragon's heart. He is not afraid of sounding stupid, or making a mistake. Ivanhoth is very into the belief that you cannot discover the right way to do something unless you have discovered the wrong way as well, and he holds others to this if they ask for his advice. He is more than willing to suggest a solution to something they are confused on and help them make their choices. These, unfortunately, may not always be the best ones, as Ivanhoth relies on the words others have told him in the past and lacks a strong logical sense of his own.

This does not hinder his social interactions, and Ivanhoth is very social if only because he craves the attention of others. Ivanhoth is a very physical dragon, whether there is a sexual component or not. He wants to stand close to his friends, and he wants to be near his rider at almost all times. The few times that Ivanhoth panics is when His is not there with him, though he tries to pretend there is nothing wrong. Since a Hatchling, he has gotten better, but he still cannot be apart from Fi'o for much longer than a few hours.

Ivanhoth will mostly chase greens as his smaller size makes chasing golds more difficult. Those females he catches are bound to get a nice taste of his affections, and Ivanhoth is a bit of a "cuddler" after flights. He lingers around for quite some time afterwards, talking it up with both the rider and the dragon he's with, and dotes on the dragon he has caught with nuzzles and tends to snuggle up to them.

While they may seem like an odd pair on the surface, Ivanhoth was drawn to Fi'o because she is someone who will always tell him things exactly like they are, including exactly how she feels, and give him the direction that he desires; her wants are his wants, and he devotes himself to her goals. For her, he can behave as something of an moderating factor, his sociability and openness helping to soften her harder edges. He also tempers her to some degree, and is often able to soothe and calm her when others cannot, though past a certain point even he can't moderate her.

No worries about the profession or the name. They're both approved!

Things have changed in our Pern so there are a lot more interesting professions than in the books. And in places like Nabol and Bitra where there are places that might need some hired muscle, it works out well.
