Varinia was wandering the stalls at the market in Sulburi. She had her list of errands to run as well as just generally keeping an eye out for anything they might need. There was one thing in particular that she was looking for. A particular merchant had been around in the last month who had a particular fabric that Varinia had fancied, perhaps to give to Naevius for her birthday. The only problem was she hadn't seen him since that day and at the time was in too much of a hurry to sit and talk with him.

Her eyes caught on a square jaw of an oban and her eyes lit up, this was him! She held her basket tighter as she rushed over to him. "Hello. Last month, you had a fabric here. It was a deep red with gold embroidery around the edge with a nice pattern inside. Do you still have it?" She tried to not look too hopeful, she knew if she did then he would know he could make a lot of money off of her if he still had it.

The merchant shook his head. "That particular fabric sold quickly. I had one person come and buy all that I had in stock. I apologize. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

She shook her head with a slight frown. "No, thank you." Vari walked away from the stall a little sad, if only she had had the time when she saw it last!

Feel free to have Rham nearby and of overheard the conversation. Perhaps he goes and finds something similar for her after talking with a timeskip to later and meeting again idkk

The peddler was set up and open for business, like the others here in the market in Sulburi. He had decided to move on because the cart he wanted to buy was taking much longer than he thought it would. Apparently the repairs were going slowly because the man he's going to buy from is sick and he'd been doing the repairs himself. That meant Rham wandered and he'd gotten into Oba this time.

He hadn't been in this settlement before, so it felt a little odd, especially since it looked like there were very few other non-Obans. He didn't know how they haggled or exactly what caught Oban eyes yet, but he would settle into the routine soon.

His ears picked up the sound of a disappointed woman who wanted fabric of a specific color. Rham whistled at her, waving his hand slowly and held up a cloth. It was a blood red with gold filigree and gentle vine patterns climbing the whole fabric. "I have something that might interest you, lovely lady!" Why not throw in some flirting? What could it hurt? Sure he was interested in Sathe in more of a romantic sense, but flirting is how he got ladies to his little corner of the market. "I have another, though the cloth itself is black with red fire coming from the bottom."

Honestly Varinia shouldn't have been surprised to hear a whistle as she had started walking away from the other vendor. That's how merchants tended to be, this one seemed different though, not from his obvious flirt which was something most did anyway, but because of his coloring. She searched through her knowledge to try to remember what his kind was called but figured she could worry about that another day. He held up a fabric, a rich blood red. While it wasn't exactly the color she had seen previously, the embroidery work on it was amazing.

She made her way over to him and smiled pleasantly. "May I feel it?" Some merchants got a little prickly over people handling their wares without buying them first so it was always worth asking, especially with fabric. You could tell a lot from fabric just from touching it.

"You're new to Sulburi aren't you? At least, I haven't seen you around this particular market before." Granted she sometimes had lengths of time between trips but surely if he had been here before she would have seen him at least once.

"Yes, yes, go ahead." It was a really soft cloth, not silk, and not satin, but definitely a soft, light cloth that would be excellent for the hotter months that threatened to approach. He offered it out for her touch and just chuckled. At least she hadn't been offended he whistled. Some didn't like it and he ended up with no sale and an earful of a woman who said it was disrespectful when he was just trying to get attention. He wasn't trying to get them to come to him with just the whistle.

"I'm new, definitely to Oba itself. My name is Rham." He gave a flourishing bow and grinned. "I'm from Tale originally. Living life in my little Wind village until I decided to peruse my path of selling cloth to beautiful men and women all over Tendaji." He made an over exaggerated motion to his cloth, but truly, he had an impressive collection of different colors. He tried to have at least two cloths from everywhere he'd visited and often traded for cloth from Matori or Yael he didn't have.

"What else can I help you with today?"

Varinia smiled at his permission and took the cloth between her fingers, rubbing slightly. It was very soft and light weight. Definitely two attributes that was nice for Oba. With the right seamstress, something beautiful could be made from this. She handed the cloth back to the merchant, who she now knew was named Rham.

"Ah well welcome to Oba. I hope it is very bountiful for you!" Why wouldn't she wish a newcomer luck. Sure there were some here who wouldn't want to buy from him with him being from Tendaji but she was willing to give anybody a chance if they could provide good service to her. His exaggerated movements made her smile bigger, wondering if all merchants from Tendaji were like this.

"This fabric," She said motioning towards the one he had shown her first, "Is very nice, which obviously you know or I'm sure you wouldn't be selling it." She said with a wink of her own. "It isn't quite what I'm looking for but it might do. You see, I'm buying for someone who can sometimes be in the public eye a lot, which normally means her clothes must be fairly elegant and extravagant. I like this, and may purchase some anyway, but do you have anything else a little more ornate? A slightly darker red, though not black, still with gold?" No harm in asking, Varinia thought to herself.

He scratched a hand through his hair, scratching at a spot on his scalp as she talked. A darker red. He hummed and shuffled some things around, twisting his body this way and that as he looked. "It won't be as vibrant gold as that," he said sadly, pulling out something from the bottom of a pile. "But I do have a darker red with oranges and golds?"

He shook it out to unfold it and before her was a nice dark crimson color with gold and yellow designs. "I have this one. I love it and wanted to keep it for myself, honestly, but I don't think I could quite pull it off. You though... But you say your buying for a friend, so perhaps them." The fabric would make a great jacket or long sleeved shirt, with the embroidery at the sleeves and bottom, perhaps for the collar, too.

Varinia eyed the fabric. It was definitely more ornate, the floral pattern pretty exquisite. Though as he said not quite as vibrant with the stitching. She thought on it, biting her bottom lip as she did so and wondered if it would be right for Naevius.

It was a very beautiful fabric, she'd give him that. And he seemed sincere in his wanting to keep it for himself, though she knew that could just be a selling point as well. Vari made up her mind. The color was really close to what she wanted and the stitching was not as vibrant a gold as she would have liked but the floral pattern was definitely the selling feature.

She nodded. "Thank you for your sacrifice, I know this will look wonderful on her. I'll take the first fabric as well." Vari said with a smile.

When she accepted, Rham bowed his head and laughed. From there he rolled it around a tube and carefully pinned it so it wouldn't come undone. From there Rham wrapped the whole bolt of fabric and tied it off with twine before handing it over.

Once he settled on a price, he smirked. "I'm glad you have a keen eye. I'm sure your friend is going to be stunning. Not everyone can pull off such a bold red. I've seen Obans that couldn't do it." He grinned again, eyes dancing with the thrill of the sale.

"Tell me more about this friend. Perhaps I can help you figure out the best place to go get her some shoes to match.."

[Varinia post 5]

Varinia handed over the agreed amount, which was actually quite a good deal for the quality of fabric she had just purchased from the man. Which, in a way, made her feel a little bad. Had she just swindled him for great fabric for a price that was way too low? She still took the bolts from him though and tucked them under her arm.

She smiled, "Well, she's runs a beast taming business so she has to have a variety of clothes. This particular fabric will be for when she has to attend events in the palace." Vari said no more and let him assume what he wished. It wasn't always a good idea telling people that her boss was the princess of Oba, especially since she was in a less guarded location than the palace.

"Oooh, interesting." A beast taming business. He tipped his head this way and that as he considered. "Could you show me her business? I'm looking for a good strong beast to pull a heavy cart of fabric and you know, general things that comes with being a traveling merchant."

Rham wasn't above getting a deal or asking people to use their connections. However, he did feel confident in asking instead of taking a shot in the dark like he usually did.

"Perhaps she can give me some tips if little else!"
