Taking a deep breath, Shion took a step out the door.
He'd told his family that he'd be gone for a little while, since he didn't even know if he was going to find who he wanted to talk to. He was armed with his big brother's portable crystalphone, complete with a sort of GPS application, and a small pouch full of silvers, coppers, and even a few bits of gold. He didn't know how long he'd be gone, so his room was completely cleaned, put in order, and he had a few articles of clothing with him.
Little of it mattered, though, as he soon found himself rather isolated and lost without an idea of where to go. Where would she go? How would he even find her, the world was so vast. Maybe towards Shellmount?

Only a few weeks had passed since she'd taken a hike and left her home and her father behind. Unfortunately for her, in order to continue her education, she had to keep coming back to the academy. In doing so, she made a friend. The dark, emotional hybrid had proven to be loyal, but prone to getting upset when she didn't end up arriving to class on time. She found it easy to soothe him, and did enjoy their time together.
She'd skipped out on a few days though, having found a promising martial arts teacher in shellmount. The Imp had promised to take her in, and the few days with her had already toughened her a bit.
On her way back to the academy, she came upon a curious sight.
"...Shion? Why're you all the way out here?" She asked the lost-looking boy.

About ready to give up and try and use a tracking spell that he was super sure would work, the internet said so, Shion whipped around at the voice. He was so, so happy to hear it, that he shoved the phone in his pocket,
rushed over and wrapped his arms around the chimeraling. He tried so, so hard to not burst into tears, but he failed miserably.
"I was worried!" he exclaimed, pulling away from Dianthe to put his hands on her cheeks, wings fluttering about madly. "You haven't been to class in a week! You're gonna fail if you keep doing that!"

"Oof!" Was her only response to being hugged so suddenly. Really,
she should have expected this and mentally prepared herself, but she wasn't expecting to see Shion until at least the next day when she went back to school.
As he rambled, she took his hands off her cheeks to instead hold them as she let him fret. She'd learned long ago that letting him talk himself out of worry was the best course of action.
"I'll be fine." she said as she pat, then released his hands. "I asked for all the work we were gonna do, so I already have them done." assuring him wasn't gonna be easy. Shifting her backpack's weight a bit, she looked around. They needed food, probably...

"Oh." Well so much for having saved up all the assignments he could to give to her.
Still, he was starting to calm down, and as she looked around, so did he. On the same track of mind, he looked down as his stomach growled. They both had to be super hungry at this point, and the closet food source...was back at the academy. And if he was honest, he didn't want to go out anywhere else on an empty stomach.
"Well...do you wanna go to the Academy?" he suggested, "We might make it for lunch...and then we can, maybe, go and explore a bit and you can tell me about where you've been?"

Giggling softly at his tummy rumble, Dianthe stretched her wings out. Having only had snacks on her trip back, she was definitely in the mood for some actual food. His hands still in hers, she began to tug him with her back towards the safety of the academy.
"I've been over at Shellmount." she began as they walked. "You wouldn't believe how good the food is there! Well, if you don't like seafood you wouldn't like it...But I've been training." She beamed proudly. She was realizing her dream,
and there was going to be no way anyone would stand in her way at this point.

It was like being in a dream. He was going to lunch with Dianthe, she was back, and he was learning more about where she had been. Already aware of why she left, it was interesting to hear about what she had been doing.
"I was gonna head there! But...I got turned around." He admitted sheepishly, fluffing his wings a bit. "When we're a bit older, we should go." he suggested.
As they walked, a bit in silence, he remembered something that happened that she hadn't been around for. Something he had talked to her about before, but had never actually imagined happening.
"...My dad came back."

"Oh."
While she was going to agree that they should go one day, his comment about his dad stopped her. While she'd heard of the tales that he told her that he'd been told, she'd never been fully sold on the idea that the man could actually be bad. Unlike her own father, Diomed, the man that Shion spoke of seemed neglectful, yes, but not downright mean and evil. It all seemed like one of his siblings just had a grudge against their father, and had somehow managed to turn the rest against him.
"...and?" she questioned, finally letting go of his hand as they entered the academy. "Did he beat you? Or your siblings?"

"N-no..." He admitted. "He...I saw him, but it was only for a moment. Kei yanked me away." The more he thought about it, the more ridiculous it seemed. Sadiki was his father, and he'd never really been around him, so he was led to believe that he had been abandoned. His older siblings were hellbent on keeping him and his new nieces and nephews away from the patriarch...And none moreso than Kei.
Things just weren't stacking up properly.
"...Would you...ever come with me to meet him? Like, officially?" he asked,
following her inside. "I understand if you don't want to, but...I'd like to have you around."

It was a nice offer. Knowing that Shion, even on his best days,
didn't like to talk to people he didn't know, Dianthe could see why he wanted her to come with him. Slowly, she had become his protector of sorts. And it pleased her.
"...I would, but," she started, opening the doors to the cafeteria. "I think...you need to meet him head-on, Shion. I mean, if I'm there I might make him mad."
And as much as she'd love to be there, she definitely didn't want to ruin what might be the rebuilding of a relationship. Unlike hers with her father, Shion didn't know if he had a bad relationship or not. He just didn't know his father at all.
"...Yanno what? I'll be there...Waiting outside." she assured him.

That was all he needed.
"Well, let's go see what they're serving today! I'm hungry for pizza!"
Soon, he'd have to figure out just what was going on with his family. And he'd have Dianthe at his back.
