It was Saturday, and that meant the gym was quite busy but never to the point where it felt overcrowded. At most, it just felt full. Saturdays seemed to be the day where a lot of those training to be MMA fighters got together to spar with one another. It could be quite a show for those not training towards a similar goal, and there were a handful that certainly utilized the gym as a way to get in shape and learn the basics of fighting.
One such member was Gweneth Malley. She had joined back in August and had made quite a bit of progress. Where once she was merely slender, she now was well toned and muscles could be seen in her arms. Even her midsection, revealed by the sports bra she worn was showing the tell-tale signs of the hard work she was putting in. The car, that had once been prominent had begun to fade as well, leaving on the slightest hint that it was there with how her skin pulled. The gym had given Gwen a bit more self confidence in herself, and it showed with each hit of the bag, sweat dripping down her as she worked.
A timer on her phone went off and the red- head stopped. Panting she walked over to the device, positioned on a nearby chair to silence it. Some water was in order followed by a quick wipe of her face with her towel. As she nursed her water bottle a bit more she scanned the gym. Familiar faces were abound. The brunette, Janice, whom she had met a few weeks ago was there, and Greg who was currently in the ring with another man she recognized but didn’t know his name. There was also Sam, Jason, Mark and… She stopped when her eyes fell upon the blonde who was clearly very much in shape. She didn’t recognize him, but he seemed interested in the matches going on in the ring.
Curious, and in need of a break, she traversed the warehouse to walk up along side of him. “You’re a new face here.” She said in greeting. “Visiting? New member?” She questioned with a smile.daisymilk LMK if ya need me to adjust anything

As much as Angus enjoyed working out, he'd been torn on the idea of a gym that focused on MMA. Sure, he could learn new and interesting skills, but was this the way he wanted to learn them? Still, he'd decided at least a curious visit was in order and the ring matches had caught his attention.
As apparently he'd caught the attention of a wee ginger. Answering her smile with a grin of his own, Angus shrugged a bit.
"Vistin' for now," he said, doing his best to kept his accent under control. "Been lookin' for a gym for a wee bit now. So are you the usual welcomin' committee, lass?"
That was something Angus had already learned to watch for. If he'd been female, it would be a toned and fit male to provide welcome and hopefully enticement to drop his hard earned cash on a membership. As it was, she didn't have the hint of bimbo he'd come to associate with those other welcomes, so maybe this place wouldn't be so bad.

Gwen blinked for a moment as she took a moment to adjust to the man's accent. It wasn't something she heard every day, but she recognized it well. She had vague memories from her childhood in Ireland, but she certainly did remember one of her father's old friends because he had sounded 'different' to her. It was the best way a child could describe something she had never heard of. Now, as an adult, it was not at all mystery why her father's friend had sounded different to her since he originally hailed from Scotland. A small part of her was jealous that this man still had some of his accent from his homeland. Hers had faded quickly through her schooling in the states.
Her smile widened and she shook her head. "Nope. No welcoming committee here unless you're talking about the owner. He takes care of a lot of the front desk stuff when his other workers aren't here." She lifted her towel to give her face and upper chest another wipe before slinging the fabric over her shoulder. "It's a nice gym though. I mean, I can't compare it to anything else in the city since this is the only one I've been a member of, but the crew is nice. They're willing to help you when you need it and the equipment is well taken care of."
She tilted her head slightly as she studied him for a moment. "Call me nosey, but when did you leave Scotland to come to the states? Assuming that's where you were, of course." She said conversationally. "I am from Ireland myself, but I left when I was a kid."

Relaxing slightly the more she talked about the gym and its owner, Angus nodding approvingly. So far, so good. Now if they offered a trial and didn't charge an ungodly amount, he rather thought he'd found a gym worth going to.
He did blink though when asked about leaving Scotland. He was far more used to people asking him where he was from. And when that wasn't enough, asking him if he wore skirts. Or when that wasn't enough, asking if he went regimental under his kilt. This girl was a shining beacon of politeness and he smiled, tossing in a wink for good measure.
"Ye've got a good ear, lass. You assume correctly and it's few a few years. Came over for college and a change o' scenery."
He paused to give her a once over before laughing a little and waving a hand at her hair before sticking it out for a shake.
"You couldn't be anything but Irish with that hair. Never been that way, but I've heard it's lovely. And that you lot can drink and fight like nothin' else. 'M Angus, by the by."

Gwen's smile brightened as she took his hand after wiping her own off on the towel draped over her shoulder. "Gweneth, but feel free to call me Gwen. And you're right. I am straight from Ireland. I came to the states when I was just a kid so I only have a few memories of home, but, they suffice for now." Her tone wasn't sad or forlorn. If anything she came across as someone who knew she'd get there at some point and when it happened, it would happen.
She released his hand as she glanced up at the right as one of fighters was beginning to get the upper hand on the other. "My Da' use to have a friend who was Scottish. It's probably the only reason I was able to pin-point that accent of yours."
The match in the ring didn't last much longer. A few more jabs and and uppercut was all it took from the victor to end it. Gwen reached up and stretched before turning her gaze back to Angus. "So, are you a fighter?" She questioned. "You look like you could be." He certainly worked out, that was for certain. Gwen could appreciate his physique. Not so muscular it was inhibitating but certainly told a story of someone who kept themselves healthy.

"I'm pleased to meet you, Gwen," Angus replied cheerfully, eyes back on the fight. He nodded when she spoke about Ireland. He supposed that if he'd come over as young as she had, he'd feel the same way about Scotland. Gwen was clearly making the best of the hand life had given her. He had to admire that.
Brightening slightly as she explained how she was able to pin him down, Angus laughed heartily, an amused twinkle obvious in his eyes.
"Well, bless your da's friend, I say. Last time someone asked about the accent, they thought I was Australian! And then went on a ramble about how 'exotic' it made me," snorting a little, Angus shook his head in mock despair. "Y'meet all sorts, I guess."
He watched the fight wind down, did his best to not stare as Gwen stretched and shrugged non-commitally at her question.
"Mechanic and bouncer mostly. I dabble in sword fighting. But this sort of thing, this seems like a useful skill to know."
It was a pity he couldn't tell her why he thought it'd be useful.

"Australian?" She stared for a moment before laughing heartily. "Oh god, of all things! Australian?!" how anyone could think a Scottish accent sounded Australian was completely mind blowing to Gwen. They sounded nothing a like to her! Absolutely nothing. She could excuse a British accent and an Australian one possibly being mixed up but...Scottish. Oh, that was too good. As she wound down her laughter she waved a hand between them. "I am sorry I don't mean to laugh and it's not at you or anything. I feel kind of bad that you had to deal with that."
She snickered again. "Australian" she mumbled softly.
After the little laugh fest was truely over, Gwen took a deep breath and let it out. "Anyway, you said your a bouncer and a mechanic? That's interesting! Where are you a bouncer at?" She vaguely wondered if she'd ever been to his place of work. It was possible, but DC had it's fair amount of clubs so it wasn't likely.
Then a mention of sword fighting caused her brow to rise up as she looked at him with interest. "Ok. Sword fighting is neat and I say make sure to mention that whenever you're trying to pick someone up. Cause if they aren't interested in that, you don't need that sort of negativety in your life." She grinned as she joked. well, half joked. She was serious about telling people about his sword fighting skills. It certainly wasn't everyday you ran into someone who could use a sword. Well...assuming you don't include the mass amount of magical people in the city.

"Well," he lowered his voice conspiratorily. "Between you, me and the sky, I've found most Americans aren't very bright when it comes to things outside of their own little purviews. This girl was obviously a worshiper at the church of Kardashian."
He grinned down Gwen, obviously enjoying her merriment. Really, it was pretty funny and how could anyone hate watching a cute girl laughing? He even forced himself to behave and not leer at her. Bindhi and Cordy would be proud.
Still smiling, he waited for Gwen's laughter to wind down and shrugged at her question.
"Eh, just the burlesque place downtown. I'm there mainly to keep some of the ruder patrons from harassin' the wait staff. I think I've only had to throw someone out once. 'sides, it pays me to hang about and keep an eye on lovely ladies in interestin' clothin'. Can't complain about that."
Though, Gwen's caught interest pleased him, he had to laugh himself at her advice.
"Pretty sure if I did anything beyond a bit o'light flirting these days, my girlfriend would take offense and use that sword to remove bits an' bobs from me. And that's not counting what some of her friends would do after," he affected a shudder of fear before grinning and tipping Gwen a friendly wink. "Though, she's properly impressed at my abilities."
He let his eyes trail back to the ring and nodded to himself before returning his focus to his guide.
"Well, I like what I see, certainly. What sort of fees does this place have? Any trial offers I should take into consideration?"

Hm, she'd heard of the burlesque place but had never felt inclined to check it out. It really wasn't her type of place to check out considering she didn't swing towards women. But, she had to admit, if she were a guy who wasn't gay, she'd probably enjoy working at a place like that. Hell, if she were a lesbian she'd enjoy it. "Hey, atleast you're staying entertained at work. As long as you at least somewhat enjoy it then it's not a complete loss." She smiled at him.
Really it was nice to have a conversation with a strange guy and not feel like she needed to be on high alert or afraid he may try something she didn't like. Whether that was the atmosphere of the gym she was at (Cause, at this point, any of the regulars would step in to help if needed), her own improved abilities, or just Argus's personality as a whole she didn't know, but she was enjoying the lack of anxiety at the moment.
At the mention of a girlfriend she gave him a sly smile. "Ah. I see someone has got you under her finger." She laughed. "I am glad she appreciates your capabilities anyway! Otherwise I feel like it would be a waste." And it was true. Sword play was super interesting to her and it felt like it would be a shame if his girlfriend didn't enjoy it as well if even just as a spectator.
As the convo shifted back to the gym and she shrugged. "When I came here I came with no intentions of joining and getting into the ring. So I don't know what fees are involved with that part. Pricing I think depends on if you want a trainer too. Truthfully, you'll need to talk to the owner, Mathias, about that sort of stuff. I am not sure if he's running any specials at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if he let you test trial the gym a bit before committing."
She glanced towards the stairs where the office lied up above. "I think he or his girlfriend may be in. If you wanted to head on up there to talk to them about it." She nodded towards the staircase. "It's just up the stairs there. Can't miss it."

Laughing a little, Angus shrugged.
"Well, we reached an agreement, y'see. She won't force me to learn how to surf like a loony person and I don't try an' force her to learn sword fighting. But we both enjoy watching the other practice their craft."
He listened carefully as Gwen spoke and nodded to show his understanding. Looked like he'd be talking to a gym owner today. Grinning and giving Gwen a friendly clap on the shoulder, Angus glanced at the staircase.
"All stuff that's very good to know. My thanks for your time and patience, lass. I suspect I'll be seeing you around."
With that, he offered another smile, a nod of the head and headed for the stairs and the office above.
