Super Sailor Adria had his hands full with real life--though he'd realized that he couldn't keep referring to his civilian life as real and pretend like his Senshi life wasn't important.

He'd had to drag himself out of his room and force himself to be productive.

He'd gone to the park--a quick trip that allowed him to feel like he was doing something.

He figured he could patrol, make sure there was no one in the area, feel good about it, and then go back home and try to meet his deadline.

Except, the park wasn't empty.

He recognized a Negaverse signature only about five minutes into his patrol and felt his stomach souring. Reluctantly he wandered towards it, lips pursed and muscles tensed. He had hope it was a mistake--or a good Negaverse agent! ....If ever there was such a thing.

He felt like there was a lump in his throat when he tried to call out and it took two tries before he managed, "Hello?"

They were close; it felt like the other signature was right on top of him--and, given that he couldn't see it, he was getting worried.

She had been going out more and more since her recovery, because she had a new uniform and boots she needed to flaunt. The added power boost was certainly a plus and Marcasite thought that with all of the training she worked on, between videos and meets and things, nothing like the musical festival would happen again.

Plus, the ability to teleport now was sweet and would certainly get her out of binds easier on the off chance she managed to bite off more than she could chew.

She felt him before she saw him, her back turned as blue eyes swept across the grass and trees that lined the park looking for the source. Some days, Marcasite wished that there was a way to narrow down the expanding aura that lapped at her senses. It proved to be a moot thought as a masculine voice called a greeting from behind her and she turned, cat-like grin on her lips.

Pushing her hat back, the captain strode over. "Hellooooo~" She called back in a sing-song voice.

Adria seemed a mixture of surprised and relieved to actually be able to see the Negaverse Agent. He was wary, as he was always, but she hadn’t approached with her weapon drawn and he was optimistic that maybe she was one of the good ones.

Or, at least, one of the not so bad ones.

“There you are,” he sighed, breathing a private sigh of relief. “I wasn’t sure where you were. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to this energy signature thing. I’m Adria,” he introduced. The polite thing to do would have been to offer to shake hands but instead he figured it safer to keep his distance so he waved instead.

He wanted to believe that the Negaverse agents weren’t a threat and all of their problems could be handled with words but he knew better than that. “What are you doing out tonight?”

"Aw, you were looking for little ol me? Now isn't that sweet." Marcasite pressed white gloved fingers against her sternum as she batted her lashes at the senshi. Blue eyes drifted across the purple and white uniform and she hummed, as though amused.

"You're not as...bright as the others," she commented, gesturing to his uniform so he didn't think she was outright making a dig at his intelligence. Though, she did question his warm receptiveness to her appearance.

What experience did he have with her fellow agents, she wondered. "You can call me Marce, cutie." Pearly whites flashed his way as she took a few steps towards him, heels of her red booties clacking against the cement.

"I was thinking, we could play a little game. You know, test your reflexes."

Though Adria seemed a bit hesitant, he found himself nodding. It almost felt like an instinctive reaction; he wasn’t out here to play games—especially when he had a knot in his stomach that told him maybe this was a bad idea.

But, he wanted to have faith in her, and sometimes to trust someone meant that you had to take risks.

Certainly, she seemed friendly enough, even if he was still trying to determine if she was really talking about the colors on his uniform. The smile, the nickname. It didn’t feel like she was plotting something. But then, you couldn’t ever really know someone just by looking at them.

“What sort of game are we talking about?” he asked slowly. The words were hard to push out, like he knew he was probably making a bad decision but was going for it anyway.

With Adria agreeing easily, Marcasite wondered if the little senshi had any sort of guidance in his life. Surely if he did, he wouldn't be acting like a lamb willingly led to the slaughter. Amusement showed on her face as she held out her palm and the silver weapon fan materialized in her hand.

"You're cute," she commented with a tilt of her head, the hat atop it shifting slightly as she observed him.

"Just a fun little thing, seeing what they've taught you. Y'know, combat things?" If he impressed her, maybe she wouldn't bother going for the starseed.

Fingers curled around her fan that she opened and closed with smooth motions. Long legs drew her closer, into the senshi's space without imposing - yet. "Or did they leave you all alone?"

Adria seemed more on edge now than before; the idea of combat wasn’t something he was particularly comfortable with, and the idea of her with any sort of weapon made him feel like he was at an immediate disadvantage. He tended to flee rather than fight, but she had introduced this as a game.

He wanted, desperately, to believe that’s all she was actually proposing.

He didn’t draw away when she entered, but he stood a little taller. “I can take care of myself,” he insisted, though the words were forced. He was preparing himself mentally because while he still seemed to cling to the hope that she wasn’t seriously dangerous or looking to do him harm.

The way she was handling his fan made him nervous but he swallowed the lump in his throat.

“If I agree to this, you’re not going to try to kill me, right?” he asked, but to be honest, he wasn’t even sure if he had a say in what was about to go down. She already had her weapon out and while it didn't look like his idea of a deadly tool, he had no idea what it could do.

Or what she could do.

Marcasite found his attempt to assert himself cute and amusement shone in her blue eyes. "I didn't say you couldn't, cutie." She lifted the fan to push it beneath his jaw and tilt it up once she was close enough to. "Adria, right?" One pale brow arched as she searched his face.

He was nervous, it was almost adorable how he was trying to be brave and stay when she thought he might want to turn and run instead.

"While some of us do work alone, I'm a fan of teamwork and learning together, that's all. No digs intended." So far anyway.

His question brought a careful smile to her face and she stepped back, both hands in the air and the fan snapping open while held between her thumb and forefinger. "Mostly non-lethal," she offered, because the fan had sharp points but wasn't bladed. "Dontcha think that if I wanted you dead, I woulda tried already?"

When the fan was beneath his jaw, pushing it up, he felt a knot twist in his stomach. He was anxious, clearly, but it was more in her ability to conduct herself while saying all of those things.

“I guess,” he answered earnestly. “But I wouldn’t be surprised if you were just getting me to lower my guard before doing a sneak attack.”

Not everyone was honorable, and it was hard to tell at first glance how someone would fight.

“Not the face,” he requested. “Please. I can explain most things, but not that. But. Okay. Yeah, I mean.”

He needed experience, and if she was serious about teamwork and learning together…

Ah, jeez. This was so stupid; he should have used his magic and run.

And yet, his feet were rooted to the ground and he swallowed the lump in his throat. “But we can try, sure.” He drew in a calming breath and nodded, standing a little taller. More convincingly, he added, “Yeah. I’ll do it. You can go first.”

"I've been in your space," Marcasite felt the need to point out, one pale eye brow quirked with curiosity. "Wouldn't take much to put my hand through your chest." Shoulders rolled back in a shrug, empty hand waving about dismissively. Her other hand fanned herself with her weapon, holding it before her face to hide her mouth while she waited for him to finish working things out in his head.

Marcasite did find it tempting to just take advantage of his perceived nativity she also wanted to see how far she could push this pseudo spar nonsense.

While instinct demanded that she handle the senshi so they were no longer on the streets and being a pest her curiosity won out. People, especially those on the white moon, were fascinating when it came to behaviors.

"I'll try," she said in a sing song manner, extending her arm with the fan for a moment. In a flash she was sliding into his space, fan snapped shut to jab into his stomach.

Nervously, Adria reached a hand to scratch at some phantom itch that passed over his chest when she said she could have put her hand through his chest. She was right, of course, and it earned her a bit more of his trust. He didn’t know if this was a good idea, but Marcasite had made good points. If she’d wanted to hurt him…

He’d left himself wide open a good few times and she hadn’t taken advantage of his weaknesses.

He was ready to draw in a breath and nod, but she was already moving. Thankfully, not his face, because he didn’t react as quickly as he should have and her fan hit him right in the gut. He made a choked noise, surprised, and reacted the only way he could think to; he elbowed the girl as hard as he could in the side, trying to throw her off balance and away from him.

Only, violence immediately made him feel bad so he offered a rapid apology consisting of, “Sorry—sorry!”

Despite the way she was preparing herself for their little 'spar' Marcasite still noted the way Adria touched his chest and the apprehension that seemed to fill him. Amused, the woman grinned at him right before her attack struck. She was both pleased and disappointed by how easily she'd caught him off-guard enough to hit hard.

His elbow caught her side to her surprise and it was enough to make her stumble. Gritted between her teeth was a hiss of annoyance more than pain and she was lifting her leg, intending to knee or kick Adria in retaliation.

There was a sharpness in her glare that wasn't there before and if both of her feet made it back to the ground she would freeze long enough to shake her head at him. "If you're always apologizing, you're going to look weak."

The kick hit, but Adria’s impulse was to shove her away when she made contact. He felt pain, but mostly he just felt himself off balance. It took a few seconds to correct his footing enough for him to respond.

“I don’t think manners make someone look weak. I don’t think not wanting to hurt someone is weak,” he said, running his hands over himself quickly to make sure he was in one piece. “It doesn’t mean that you can’t, just that it’s not your go-to. I don’t like to hurt people,” he admitted, but that was obvious enough about him.

“I don’t think violence does anything. You’re not actually trying to hurt me, are you?” He seemed on edge, in a different way than before. Like he was ready to take thins seriously regardless of how little he wanted to fight.

Marcasite only paused in their 'spar' when Adria insisted on talking more than acting. She huffed upward, blowing stands of white out of her face before lifting a gloved hand to wipe sweat off her face.

"I didn't say that." For all of her lightheartedness earlier, she was suddenly rather blunt. "But if you're in a situation where you have to act and acting means fighting back, apologizing in the middle of it means you're distracted." Distractions led to death or serious injuries.

She shook her head at him, exhaling loudly. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have." Just like if she wanted to go for his starseed she would have. "I thought about it, but I haven't. We're having a friendly little spar." Pearly whites flashed at him when she stepped back, hand raised to gesture him closer.

"Come on, you want to be capable of at least defending yourself don't you?"

It wasn’t like it was a difficult question to answer; of course he wanted to be able to protect himself. It felt like he was playing with fire right now, and no matter what Marcasite’s intentions were now, she had already changed her mind

“I do,” he answered earnestly. “But I just don’t know if now is a great time. And I appreciate that you’re trying to help me,” he insisted. “But I just don’t think it’s a good night for me. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to let you down or anything. I just…”

Didn’t have a way to word it that didn’t sound rude or ungrateful. He looked apologetically at her. “I’m not good at this,” he said bluntly. “I should go take some classes or something, I know. And I appreciate you sparring with me and not just trying to kill me, really, but,” he shook his head. “I’d rather pick this up another time.”

He felt foolish; she was being polite and kind and seemed earnest in her efforts, but he couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. It was probably just the Chaos clinging to her, but he was fixated on it. It felt like it was suffocating him, and all he wanted to do was get out of there. He wanted to be home, in bed.

Safe.

“If that’s okay with you?” he suggested hopefully. In the back of his mind, he knew he didn’t have to ask for permission to leave; he just wanted to stay on her good side. Truthfully, he was ready to use his magic and take whatever distraction he could get and run away if he needed to, but he didn’t want to seem so pathetic that he had to resort to that.
