Project: GRUMPIG
(WC: 620)

"Ow!"

Eyebrows furrowed as she stared at the offending digit. The pale skin blossomed a bright, angry red as the blood began to swell at the tip of her index finger. The needle was put down quickly onto her desk as the injury was swiftly brought up to her lips and promptly sucked on. It wasn't for vampire reasons - Beatrice wished it was, but she'd have to know a vampire first to be able to share blood with one to become one. No, it was just regular, coppery flavored human blood thanks to her lack of thimble, along with the annoying, stinging sensation of having a cut on her most favorite, most used finger.

The poke wouldn't have happened if she'd had her thimble - darn Tailypo and his affection for shiny objects. She had to get this project done by the end of the day because she'd promised the PiggiePie05 on Reddit that she'd make a pig-themed present for her gift exchange and the deadline for the exchange was coming up in only a matter of days.

The theme had been favorite animals and it was clear from the girl's name alone that pigs were the way to go. Beatrice had put down chupacabra under her list of favorites, if only to throw her secret santa gifter for a loop. She liked throwing people for loops.

She also liked adding extra limbs to animals, which was what she was trying to accomplish with the small, pink piglet she'd bought from the toystore at the mall. It had looked all cute and innocent, with pink bent ears and a curly spiral tail. She'd thought green would go good with pink, so she'd gotten out her fabric trunk from under her bed and gone to work. Three extra legs later and a pair of forest green wings and the little pig was almost finished.

All it needed was a proper expression, which was what Bea had been working on, prior to stabbing herself with her own needle. The pig - or Grumpig, as she'd dubbed it - needed an appropriately grumpy expression. It was halfway there, currently with a lopsided grimace and she was hoping the remainder of the frowny line could be finished in the next hour.

Releasing her finger from her mouth, she set the half-grumpig down on the desk as she stood up to glance at the clock. It was nearly nine - her mother would be making rounds soon, ensuring lights went off and she was making her way to bed, being a school night and all. Well. Maybe if she set her alarm early enough, she could finish the project and get it packed away in time to toss it her mother's way on the way out the door.

Shuffling over into the hallway, she made her way into the bathroom and swung open the medicine cabinet doors. It didn't take long to find the zombie-flesh colored band-aids (the box was red and bloody, as opposed to her mother's normal looking box of band-aids, sitting adjacent to hers). Sliding one out of the container, she wrapped up her finger and tossed the trash in the waste basket. Out in the hallway, she could hear a soft yowl - Tailypo had clearly lost one of his toys under the couch again.

Dumb cat probably lost her thimble under there, too.

Shaking her head, she trudged back to her bedroom and flicked off her lamp, a preemptive counter-strike to her mother's approaching bed-check.

Grumpig would just have to wait until tomorrow - she would simply comfort herself with dreams of a happy PiggiePie05's response once the other girl received her brand new, improved piglet the following week.

Project: ALPACORN
(WC: 586)

It had taken almost a month, but Beatrice had finally done it.

When she and Kellybelly had been out shopping back around Valentine's Day, the other girl had stopped by Geppetto's and forced her white-haired friend inside the expansive toy store. There, they'd both lingered in front of the giant stuffed animal display for a good ten minutes as Kelly cooed and awed over the soft, magical looking creatures of varying colors. Bea hadn't really understood the fascination - they all looked so.... so normal, but if it made the Kellynator happy, she'd put up with the animal gazing. Besides, watching was cheap - not having a job meant having less money to spend on frivolous things like the overpriced stuffed animals sold at the overpriced toy store.

Her fingers had kept jumping from one animal to another - the unicorn and the alpaca. She'd asked Bea which one she'd liked best and Bea had shrugged - both were okay at best, honestly, but at the price of fifteen bucks apiece... well, neither one of them were winners, as far as she was concerned.

Kells-Bells didn't have any money either, at least any on hand. Both girls tended to spend their allowances and meager earnings on things early in the month, so halfway through left them paupers and window shopping, as opposed to actual shopping. She'd reluctantly returned the animals to their perches on the crowded shelves, Bea forcibly grabbing her wrist to yank her out of the store and away from the taunting temptations.

But all of that would be soon changed.

She'd scrimped and saved her pennies - collected coins out of the fountains at the mall when people weren't looking, searched the sidewalks for hours, combed through the grass near recent burial grounds in search of any lost coins from departed mourners. She'd even sold a few of her creations on etsy for a few dollars to cover the difference in cost - but she'd did it.

In front of her sat the cute little peach colored alpaca and the rainbow unicorn that Kelsywelsy had struggled to walk away from. Bea had earned the entire thirty dollars - and taxes - to buy them both. But KellShell wasn't going to get both stuffed animals. No... she was going to get only one.

One magnificent stuffed animal.

The unicorn had been easier to dissect, so she'd taken that one apart and decided to use the alpaca as the base. The horn had been removed, as well as the tail and mane. The mane had proved the most difficult to pull apart, but she'd managed after two tiresome hours of adjusting her glasses and tweasing the strands apart.

Attaching everything onto the alpaca had been the fun part. The iridescent horn looked magnificent between the two small, curved ears of the fluffy beast, as did the pastel rainbow mane down the otherwise cottony back of the llama-like creature. The tail looked a little out of place when everything was said and done, but nothing a quick addition of a giant red butt-bow couldn't fix.

Finally, the finishing touch: with a little bit of extra white fabric from the unicorn's belly, she cut out and stitched on two little vampire fangs onto the edge of the alpaca's mouth.

Adding a handwritten, scribbled note, she tossed the Alpacorn back into the box she'd gotten from Geppetto's and scrambled up off of her carpet.

Kelly was totally going to love the newest addition to her family - Bea was absolutely sure of it!

Project: BATCAT CATBAT
(WC: 597)

This week's project was going to be a little bit different than her normal projects. While Bea usually busied herself with random ideas that came to mind from various movies she'd watched during the week or horror stories she'd read on NoSleep, she'd been struck with the idea like a sudden bolt of lightning, only without the cool tattoo-like scarring that most lightning survivors walked away with. Which was a pity, really, because she'd have loved a cool scar marking like that.

No, during homeroom earlier that day, she'd listened to the teacher reading off the daily news fed to her from the principal's office. What the cafeteria was serving, what time the science fair was starting that weekend, don't leave litter by the parking lot for the angry janitor to find, blah blah blah.

Then, as per protocol, she announced any birthdays that were celebrated that day. There happened to be one in the thirty or so students in the room - an Aurora Willows. A few people chimed in with dull, forced out happy birthdays as they usually did, but the cheerful looking girl didn't seem to mind that they weren't authentic.

Bea had noticed her before - she kept to herself, mostly, despite having a smile that could arguably be measured from ear to ear. Her hair was the color of algal blooms - the white haired meadowview student absentmindedly had wondered if she knew that algal blooms were responsible for murdering waterlife and potentially poisoning dozens of people who ate the shellfish affected by it.

Anyways.

For some reason, the otherwise lonely girl struck a chord in Bea - the inspiration for a new project, perhaps?

She'd watched the girl for the rest of homeroom. Aurora had been doodling little cats across her notebook while she was supposed to be listening to the teacher's announcements. Bea could appreciate a creative rebel like that. She also appreciated being handed the biggest tip she'd need for her next project: subject matter.

Aurora Willows had absolutely no idea that she was about to get the newest, original masterpiece by the one and only Beatrice Kellye.

Although she didn't have a base to work with, it hadn't been hard to come up with a basic cat-shaped pattern to start off the creation. She'd gone with an off-green color, to sort-of match the girl's hair color. After finishing the two body pieces, she stitched them together and began to add the stuffing. While the legs and arms seemed okay, the head had a slight lump to it.

Eh, it could be a tumor. Yeah - that sounded good. Since it was her birthday, Bea decided it could be a benign one.

White eyeballs with little black dots were put on the face, along with a little pink nose. A few strands of black yarn were converted into whiskers and it was about the sixth whisker in that Bea realized she'd forgotten the tail on the cat.

Whoops.

Fashioning a new one out of slightly different-color-green fabric had only taken an extra twenty minutes - then she pulled out the black fabric to add the final finishing touches. Birthday cats called for a pair of fancy birthday wings - a batcat? No... a catbat!

Proud of her project, she gave it a triumphant poke in the nose before tucking it into her backpack. She'd probably hide it in Aurora's desk before homeroom the next day - it was going to be a blast to see her expression as she opened her desk to see a new friend waiting patiently for her!

Project: TRASHPANDA
(WC: 530)

Ellenore Seance Blackwall.

The name rolled off her tongue in the most delightful way. Ellenore reminded her of Eleonora which reminded her of Edgar Allan Poe, which meant she had a natural biasness towards the odd young woman. Add to it that her middle name was Seance of all things (whether this was actually true or not, Bea would not argue - it was far too cool to try to prove it elsewise), Beatrice knew they would become fast friends in no time.

Sea, she'd told her to call her. Sea and Bea.

It was simply meant to be.

In honor of her newest friend, it called for a new project. Having no clue what her newest friend enjoyed, she'd outright asked her: what was her favorite animal?

As delighted as she was to hear that black cats had made the top of the list, Bea was growing dreadfully tired of black cats. She was doing at least one a month - they were becoming almost dangerously close to being cliche, in fact. But when the girl had mentioned trash pandas as her second favorite, Beatrice had taken the word to a literal sense.

And that, of all reasons, was how she found herself in the dumpster behind the Meadowview school building. Her legs dangled out of the opening as she dunked her top half inside, arms digging and ripping apart the various trash bags piled high within.

She sucked in her breath as one arm was scraped by the metal opening of the trash container.

Oh well - if her tetanus shot had expired, maybe she'd get admitted into the hospital and they'd have to amputate her arm and she'd get a fake plastic one that she could unhook and shake around at people whenever she felt like it. Dreams were important to have, after all.

Collecting an assortment of options, she shoved the particles into her backpack and made her way home. There, she dumped out the remains, pulled out her trunk of crafts and got to work.

The base was easy. She'd made cat-like shapes and could probably manage it in her sleep at this point. Whipping yet another one up out of greyish colored fabric took no time at all - she was done with the base in barely under an hour. Buttons for eyes and a tiny little stitched nose completed the base - then came the trash.

Using several of the broken pencil and pen parts she'd found, she created holes in the back of the little panda's body and fastened the jagged objects, creating a butchered, horrific version of what looked like a makeshift porcupine. Adding a pair of broken earbuds to its head, she created a pair of weird looking ears, tying the headphone string around the neck like a poorly excused necklace. Rocks and pebbles made for body texture, as did rubber bands for tail stripes.

It took her nearly twice as long to figure out what trash pieces would work as part of her newest project, but by the time she was finished with it, she was proud of her interpretation of what a trash panda looked like.

Clearly, Sea would be proud too.

Project: NOODLEBEAR
(WC: 648 )

The first time she'd spotted Naoki Tanaka, he was alone, curled up on one of the benches outside of school with his weirdly shaped glasses buried deep into his sketchbook. He was a weirdo if she'd ever seen one, but Bea had learned from early on not to judge others on their appearances - after all, who knew what kind of crazy genius could be hiding behind the odd jewelry and the weird hair colors?

She had to remind herself that not everyone was blessed with the beautiful white locks of hair that she had - it meant she didn't have to fret like so many thirty-somethings did when they started noticing the white hairs sprouting among their blondes, brunette and red colorings. The way she saw it, she was already leagues ahead of the game. She could turn eighty next week and folks would probably not notice anything different on her, save for maybe a wrinkle or two. She could die and they wouldn't know if she were twenty or forty or whatever age people typically died at. Anyways.

Snooping on Naoki had been easy enough - the kid had been so caught up in his doodling that he hadn't noticed her lurking until her warm breath was tingling the back of his neck. The style was actually pretty darn good... and it was then that Bea developed her idea. They would do a trade off. One of her masterpieces for one of his - that was a fair exchange, right?

The older student didn't seem to understand, but slowly (eventually) agreed, if anything to get the white haired girl out of his sight. Wasting no time, Bea took off for her neighborhood, ideas already spinning in her fast-paced little mind.

There had been bears on the young man's notebook. Easy to assume that bears were his favorite color. He was Asian too, right/ What did Asians like...

She pondered the question as she flipped open her trunk, digging through the fabrics and materials as the idea finally struck her. One of the most favorite things that she associated with Asian-Americans were their cuisine. Didn't Naoki always bring noodles or rice to lunch? Was it racist to assume such things without being one hundred and twenty percent sure?

Who knew.

Noodles it was, then! Bears and noodles... why, this called for a Noodlebear, without a shadow of a doubt.

Yanking out the brown fabric, she fashioned the bear's body and head quickly, snipping away at the material with her scissors. One ear was a little bit higher than the other, but when she tilted her head to the left, the both ended up looking pretty okay.

She left the arm and leg holes open as she stuffed the bear, then flipped the material around to stitch the rest of it up. The extremities called for a special addition - noodle limbs.

It took almost a good hour to create the fabric noodles, but once finished, she was thoroughly impressed with her own skill level. The little brown stuffed bear had noodles sprouting out of both legs and arms, a single noodle stitched across his face in a lopsided wiggle-grin. Button eyes finished the face and she decided to add a little pink to the ears just for the sake of color - guys were okay with pink nowadays, right?

Placing Noodlebear on her nightstand, she briefly considered keeping the masterpiece and working on something else for the older Meadowview student. But no... no, clearly he was going to draw her something wonderful in exchange, so far be it for her to keep away her masterpiece from him!

Hopping into bed, she snuggled her pillow and gave Mr. Noodlebear a brief nod before closing her eyes. Maybe if she were lucky, Naoki would find himself inspired and doodle her riding atop the fierce Noodlebear?

She couldn't wait to find out.

Project: POTATOPOOCH
(WC: 623 )

She had a shiner that smarted like nobody's business. Which was good because it was nobody's business.

The white haired teenager sat on her bed, grumpily staring at the door to her bedroom as she heard her mother noisily cleaning dishes in the kitchen down the hallway. It wasn't like she wanted to lie to her mom - but how was explaining that some bully in spandex had almost broken her hand and clocked her in the face?

Her mom would go to the cops for sure and then she'd have to file a report and really, who was gonna believe a kid who said some twenty-something in a magical outfit was beating up on her because he felt like it? It wasn't like she could talk about how she too was a magical being and he was taking out his anger on her pretty little face (because it wasn't like her powers did harm or anything, gosh).

Hmph.

So there she sat - grounded and unhappy but most of all sore because her wrist still hurt and her face still throbbed.

Stupid boys.

Kicking off her shoes, a loud thunk had her glancing over the edge to see what it had hit. Her plastic container full of fabric and tools - huh. She hadn't made a new friend in some time... maybe that would help cheer her up?

Oozing off the side of the bed, she collapsed onto the floor in a heap of legs and arms, the teenager yanking out the plastic tub as she started digging around for an idea. There were fabrics of all colors and patterns, but she wasn't feeling particularly inspired, which was a problem. A big problem.

Tugging out the brown fabric, she figured she'd start with it as a base. Maybe begin a teddy bear and see what happens along the way?

The body was the easiest part. Just a large brown torso, then tiny ones to go on for arms and legs or tentacles (or whatever). The torso she was beginning to make, though, wasn't looking like a torso at all...

She frowned as she held the fabric at a distance. No, it looked like a potato. I stupid, ugly potato of a body. Hmph.

Scowling, she continued to try to add limbs anyways because even sad ugly potatoes needed finishing. Maybe when it was all over with, she could use it for experiments in spells or something - surely there had to be some sort of usage for a potato pal.

Two legs and some spindly arms later and she was attempting a head, which ended up looking more like a snout than a head, so it received half-attempted animal ears that didn't end up looking very animal-like but hey, she was her own worst critic, right?

Black beady eyes looked at her sadly from the potato thing she'd created and she realized that it sort of looked like some sad little dog. Potatopooch. That's what she'd call it.

Tossing the remains of her crafting supplies into the tub, she shoved the large plastic container under her bed and rose from her indian-style sitting position to flop down onto the bed with her ugly, homely looking Potatopooch.

"Bet you'd cry if your face got hit too, huh?" She asked it quietly, fingers toying with the pooch's ears. "Don't worry - I won't tell anyone."

Scrunching her nose at the vacant expression returned by the lifeless toy, she set Potatopooch aside with the other mutant creations then proceeded to press her face against her pillow, praying for death to visit her because if death visited her, she wouldn't have to explain to anyone else how she managed to bruise the side of her face and that would be fantastic.
