Monsters were real. Lynette knew that to be a verifiable, undeniable fact. Not that this was a fact that she liked, however. No, in fact, it was something that she hated, beyond all other things. Monsters caused her more grief than she could have ever believed possible.
Another thing that Lynette knew, was that there were a lot of monsters in this city, a lot of monsters indeed. Perhaps more than normal, if that were possible. It wasn’t often that she could find one of these creatures though, so when she came upon one she was excited...and ready.
Her camera was out in moments and there she was, creeping up on the diseased looking beaver with the bat wings and the backwards feet…it was clearly a deformed monster. Perhaps there was a leak in the power plant and these creatures were the result? Or perhaps this city was just the center of a great demonic convergence and monsters were just destined to be the norm…
Whatever the reason was, Lynette was here to document all of these strange things. It was her job and civic duty.
And that, was why she was a foot away from a youma with seemingly no regard for her life what so ever.
She wasn’t even scared until the creature turned on her and made a noise that shattered the night…but even then, all the purple haired girl did was snap another picture.

Wendell was ambling around the city on his own, for once. Celsus was out with Corvus and Oberon still resolutely refused to admit that Wendell was his cat at all - something that made Wendell very, very sad indeed - so he was gamboling about solo in an effort to do things.
And by things, he most definitely meant treasure.
He felt a small fizzle of - oh, that was a power signature. Wendell promptly darted down the nearest alleyway and emerged onto the next street over, peering around for the source of the energy. He spotted it almost immediately - a youma was oozing about, looking relatively disgusting, as youma did.
There was a girl, however. Wendell skittered across the ground toward her and latched his teeth into her shoe in an effort to tug her away.

Lynette was just so excited to have found a monster, that for a moment she didn’t even notice the cat who was attempting to eat her foot and shoe.
Well, until she did, that is. Slowly she glanced at it. “Hello. Please stop that, I have to get pictures of this monster, so let go now, kitty. And you might want to run, because it has teeth bigger than yours.” Of course that should have been a warning sign to her as well, but it seemed as though large teeth did nothing to phase Lynette, at least not tonight.
The youma however seemed to hold a very great interest for both the rather stupid girl and the brave little cat, and it snarled again, wing flapping rather uselessly, stumbling closer and letting out another disgusting, gurgling roar.
“It’s all right, Mr. Cat, please run along now. This monster seems to be getting quite angry.”
Snap went the shutter once again.

Wendell's head popped up
"You can't take pictures, youma are very dangerous, milady!" he said, sounding quite serious, hopping around to stand in front of her. "This is a youma, not a monster - or, well, they're both the same thing, I imagine, but you can't stay here, you should get back! But I will protect you, it's quite all right!"
He flipped around to face the youma, eyes bright, body tense as he prepared himself, tail upright in the air behind him. It really wasn't a huge youma, but it was large and unpleasant and possibly dangerous, and Wendell absolutely couldn't let it get anywhere close to the girl.
"Don't get too close, milady!" he said, and bounded forward, sinking claws into the youma's side as best he could.

When the cat spoke Lynette paused, her glasses sliding down to the end of her nose as her eyes widened. Quickly she slid them back into place and turned her camera towards the place where the cat had been, though frowned when he was suddenly with the monster. Trying to fight the monster.
But he was just a small cat. He couldn’t do this…
She snapped one last picture, and then lunged forward to grab the cat before those large, sharp buck teeth sunk into him. “You are just a cat. You can’t just fight a monster.” Her voice was almost reproachful, and when the creature let out a wet sounding bellow, lunging at her, she quickly took a step backwards, eyes scanning around, hoping to find a tree to put the cat in so he could be safe. “You’ll get hurt.”
And if the cat got hurt, she couldn’t talk to it anymore. And if she couldn’t talk to it anymore…she would never be able to find out just how it could talk.
Lynette had hesitated for a moment to long though, and she let out a surprised cry of pain as those horrible buck teeth dug into her ankle. She shook her leg quickly, trying to dislodge, and was happy that the creature flew off and landed a good ten feet away. “You should go, you know. I don’t want you to get hurt. You’re cute.”
In the excitement of all of what was going on, Lynette hadn’t yet realized that her precious camera had fallen while she shook off the creature…and the moment she did realize, was the moment that the deranged beaver decided that the camera looked like it would be a good thing to sink it’s horrid teeth into, causing another wail to arise from the girl, this one much worse than the last. “No! My camera!” Anger flowed through the teenager and she took a step towards the creature. “I’ll kill you!”
