Melvin was miserable. Despite his own work and productivity, he was making no progress with Lawr. The man was avoiding him like the plague and it was hard to corner him into rooms and hallways. Working in different departments also made it difficult, and now that he had been spooked, Lawr was making every effort to dodge him at every turn. This wasn't helped that Rodney probably was on his back every moment. He was surprised the man didn't escort Lawr home every day.
Melvin started at his third emptied glass and wondered how much a glass cost, but considering his funds that kept getting hit time and time again, he decided throwing it was not in his best interest. Instead, he sighed and flagged Al for another whiskey. It was going to be one of those nights it seemed.

Al wandered over to Melvin's table with a fresh drink and sat it down in front of him. "Busy tonight, eh?" He glanced over at Noah with a smile and a tiny finger wave and then looked back at Melvin curiously.

Noah had set up with a book and a notebook at the end of the bar, and was keeping himself busy in between talking to Al. He had a drink, as an excuse to be there, but it was a low-content mixed drink. He returned the smile and small wave; his eyes lingered curiously on Melvin's downcast face for a moment, then slid away.

Melvin folded his arms on the bar and dropped his head as he took his new drink. Usually the worst he got was tipsy though he had been drunk once or twice since leaving the house, but enough to walk home and remember things like pride.
This time was different. He was sipping the whiskey like before. The room already felt hot. "Busy?" He gave a bitter little laugh. "I wish. Everyone on this rock gets laid no problem and I'm here." He looked over where Al waved and gestured at Noah. "Even you're getting some!"
"Can't believe I'm getting c**k blocked by Mr. Rogers."

Al cleared his throat and turned a bright red at the comment, "Maybe." It was all he said of it before going over to sit beside Melvin since the bar was empty save the three of them. "I thought Lawr broke things off months ago?" He pried nosily.

Noah pretended to be paying attention to his notebook, but he had stopped writing, so as to be better able to listen.

He took a deep drink before setting the glass down. "He only says that cause Rodney guilted him to think sex with me is evil. Lawr can be a criminal mastermind but he is dense as hell sometimes letting someone think he needs saved by marriage. You know how many times he - he been married?" Melvin words were already slurring.
"He still wants me plenty and Rodney knows it."
He smiled wide at the memory and took another drink. "He really knows it after what Lawr and I did."

He stared back with a pleased little smile at the memory. "Went at it....for hours." He said, looking up at Al.
"Didn't even take that ring off for it neither."
The smile quickly soured before Melvin slide his arms out in front of him and set his head down. "I want him." He mumbled to the bar.

"I remember that feeling vaguely," he commented regarding the physical display of want Melvin put on at the end. "Noah wasn't always mine, I'm sure you recall."

Melvin turned his head up enough to look up from his now skewed glasses. "Did he ever get married and say you couldn't ******** anymore?"
He was finding it hard to make any connections.

"Well no, not exactly. But he was with someone else for way way too long." He reached out to gently pat Melvin. "But we are together now."

Melvin blinked at him. "What..did you do?" His eyes narrowed. "Did ya kill em? Them? I wanna make him write on ...on papers. Get him divorced ......get him a bigger ring and like ....two big rings....and a dog......no. He won't keep a dog. Break it's neck. Maybe like a stuffed dog." He muttered a bit more as he leaned on the bar before turning his head to stare at Noah from across the way.
"Why you leave for Al? Did you get a stuffed cat?"

Noah discovered that his pretense of not listening had not been effective in the least. Caught, he winced a little, then picked up his drink and moved over to actually join the conversation. "Um," he said. "I got jealous when I thought about him going off and dating other people, so I realized if I didn't want that happening I should be with him. No, uh, stuffed cats. Or anything like that."

"Maybe some stuffed plants," Al teased at the new presence, taking it as a good way of getting away from the comment about animal abuse that left a sour taste in his mouth. "I spent a long time wanting and wishing and I did let him know how I felt but that I like. I had to move on for my sanity if he didn't want me. Thankfully, it turned out he did want me... just... didn't want to hurt the other person. There was a learning curve too, that it was more humane for everyone to just be with the one you want to be and just... let whatever wounds heal from getting to that point. Like, rip it off like a bandaid."
