Adrian had told himself that he was going to try making sense of things, once the fog in his head lifted and he felt appropriately awake. He hated to risk asking stupid questions, when the answers could very well be right in front of him. Like the bold, red sign directing him God knows where. He was still considerably weirded out by the pod he'd practically fallen out of, so getting out of this room was something he was eager to do. Hopefully, everything else wasn't as strange... Oh, if he only knew what he was getting himself into.
Eventually, he found where he was to descend into... Somewhere. The young man wasn't sure what he had expected, really, but stared for several moments once he reached the bottom. The room was so small, he noticed first, with odd tiling on the walls. Curiosity guided him first, moving closer to the tablets nearest him to look over the runes each held.
Reaching out to trace his fingertips along the design of one, he thought he heard a soft whisper. A barely audible murmur that he couldn't understand. There was no one to be seen at the stairs, and he even waited a moment to see if someone else might have been coming down. Perhaps there was supposed to be someone here to actually tell him what he was supposed to be doing?
Adrian backed away from the tablet he'd touched, unsure if he was supposed to be caught messing with anything here to begin with.
Another sound. A calling for attention. This time more insistent but he still couldn't make out the words. However, this time he realized that it wasn't coming from the direction he'd entered, but somewhere within the room itself.
The torch didn't provide enough light for the entire room to be brightened, but just enough that his gaze swept over the correct tablet three times before he realized it was different from the rest. The rune glowed blue, just faintly, but seemed to slowly brighten the closer he got to it when he decided to investigate.
<Here... I'm here.> A soft voice called, and it was no wonder it had been so difficult to make out before. The Hunter was standing just there in front of it, and even though it was calling out it sounded more like it was worried over it.
"Are you calling to me?" Adrian questioned, odd as it felt to talk to a stone.
<Yes!> The tone had certainly changed to something more eager and confident, even if it was not as loud as it was enthusiastic. <You must be my human. I've waited a long time for a Master.>
Adrian made a face at that. Master? "I don't know what you mean..." He squinted at the tablet, at last reaching up to touch it much like he had the first, before pulling it free from the wall.
The stone was such for only a second longer, before the small tablet Adrian had held became instead a pair of tanbÅ in his hands. He stared between them in a mixture of shock and awe. This was amazing!
<Ah, I suppose that's not the correct way to put it...> The voice said, much clearer somehow, now that he held the weapon in his hands. <But, I am... Well, was a canine, you see. You and I are together now. We'll take care of each other and I'll do my best to protect you. So, it's not a very out-of-place statement!>
Adrian actually smiled. Whatever, or whoever his weapon was seemed friendly. That was a good sign that they could work well together, right?
"I get your point. Just... Don't actually call me that, alright? It's Adrian. No need for nicknames or endearments with me."
<Of course. Adrian.> The weapon replied, pausing just briefly before addressing him by name. <My name is Kenyon. I'm very happy to meet you, and I hope I can serve you well.>
Just as Adrian was contemplating just what he should do with the weapon, seeing as he didn't exactly have anything to fasten him into, the weapon vanished from his hands. He felt cool metal around his neck, snug but not too tight, a thick golden band circling his throat.
<You won't have to worry about carrying me,> Kenyon explained. <May we go? It's so dark down here, and I'd love to go explore. I'll bet there's a lot to see and learn. I'll even be able to smell things again! Not as well as I once did, of course...>
It was probably a good thing that Kenyon didn't really pause for answers, because Adrian wouldn't have been able to give them quickly enough.
He wondered if this was what all dogs would be like, if they could talk.
