White paws pulled a small body out of the window and to the sill; fro the sill down to the ground, and from there? From there the mauvian began to search for her senshi. Miss Kitty was swift and silent as she moved, seeking her senshi before she was off on more business without her (and how dare she leave her out! HOW DARE.), and fairly soon the small albino cat moved from roof to bridge to alley and so on, eyes alert with nose and ears for the senshi she had claimed.
Sometimes, Super Sailor Elpis was utterly impossible to find. Others the senshi was all too easy to locate -- tonight was one such night, and the mauvian wiggled into her senshi's bedroom uninvited and, nodding to the savannah cat watching her from the bed, the mauvian wiggled and climbed into Emily Wren's lap and swat her hand, huffing indignantly as Emily Wren squeaked.
"You." Miss Kitty huffed. "Have you been home lately?"
Emily Wren Wiley HAD been looking into plants -- low light, allergy friendly, low maitenence plants for the court room when the mauvian intruded, and she made a face.
"Not lately. Earlier this year? I don't go much. Too--"
And before she could finish, Miss Kitty was in Elpis' face, huffing irritably.
"Don't you think you should be?! Come on, we're going, right now, suit up, come on before I get Ally and make her ear you!" Miss Kitty scolded, and Emily Wren squawked indignantly, pulling out her henshin pen.
"You REALLY shouldn't involve civilians, Kitty!" She scolded after powering. Elpis made a face at the mauvian who huffed, jumping to her shoulder.
"Ally's a page. MOVE, dearie." The small cat huffed, and Elpis groaned, rolling her eyes before she pulled out her phone, and with a press of the key, she was in space on Elpis.
The world was as silent as ever, the rockflowers rustling only faintly in the dead air as Elpis sighed, and looked to Miss Kitty, the mauvian shrugging before Elpis began moving. Now that she was on her homeworld, she could explore, and explore freely. Slow steps carried the pair through Elpis slowly as they studied dead wood and old buildings, the only life signs the enless plants clinging to buildings. There was little conversation until Elpis paused, looking up at a large building. It was an area of the city she had never seen before, and her guardian seemed to recognize it, looking up before shifting to sit, tail switching as Elpis touched the petrified wooden door frame silently, blinking.
"The palace." Miss Kitty breath3d softly. "Home to the Royal family -- and you, if I remember right." The mauvian leapt down and entered through a small flap, and Elpis opened the door properly, watching motes of light blink to life on the walls. They were almost ethereal, flickering and glimmering in the dimness they lit, and Miss Kitty sighed, looking up as Elpis looked about. The room was remarkably well-preserved; almost too well. Ancient musty, torn, stained, and scorthed rugs and tapestries decorated the hall, the frescos marred by the tell-tale dark redbrown stains of blood. Elpis winced unconciously as the senshi walked, spying bones, sekeletons clas in garments similar to the fae and yet also the west as she walked, while others... Others were not. She paused and miss Kitty paused behind her as the senshi trembled, moving to open doors. The pair were reverently silent again, but it was clear the building was the site of battle -- of death.
The remains were often in rooms best sealed, allowing little in to damage them. Many had frescos, tapestries. Most were damaged and stained. But the bodies... The skeletons and bones sunk in most. It was readily apparent in some places that the fighting had been fierce, in others, quick. An efficient execution, even, but whomever carried it out left few footprints and few remains seemed to have survived. Whatever left the world semi-preserved had only allowed the half-preservatiuon of remains by merit of nature's preservation. Certainly it wasn't enough to protect the place, and Elpis felt a twinge of guilt when they found a barracks; weapons of unknown, alien make embedded in beds, implying many died asleep. The guilt was thick, and finally the pair opened a door to a room of crates and boxes. It was windowless, even dusty, and plants had yet to break in. The room was dusty, stale, and even somewhat tepid, in a way,, in the way a sealed room was after years closed, and Miss Kitty entered, nosing as the contents curiously. It was untouched by fighting, and Elpis entered slowly, fingers tracing boxes before she began to break them open. Some contained fabrics, supplies -- various things. Others were clothing, old objects resembling heirlooms, but Miss Kitty shook her head, and Elpis returned them. It was the next crate that surprised her, The contents were fancier, more lavish, with metals and crystals, jewelry and silks and the pure quantity of clothing that Elpis could swear would make certain celebrities look poor -- yet they fit, and the senshi marvelled, standing and gholding one up, turning to Miss Kitty with a grin. Some might;ve even fit the others -- Subra, or Forte or Adria or Lysithea -- who knew? She'd have to bring them to see. For now, it was almost fun to see the fashions her people wore -- if the nobility, and Miss Kitty made an amused sound before Elpis opened a box filled with offworld treasure -- the decor alone not belonging to Elpis but still, similar to the weaponry in the barracks -- and Elpis held up a semi-transparent garb. It was ephemeral, like a shrug and cloak top, or a hoodless cowl. Elpis couldn't be sure -- but the violet gem in the center bore a reddish glowing star shape much like a star sapphire, and Miss Kitty suddenly inhaled sharply, stepping back with wide eyes.
"The -- That's the -- so it was here all ths time." Miss Kitty murmured. Elpis blinked curiously as the masuvian stared up in awe, swallowing.
"The Warlord's Proposal. Your engagement gift ages ago."
"What." Elpis looked to Miss Kitty, and then, she froze.
My Lady," The advisor began. "Where is your gift?"
The Generalissimo-turned-ruler turned to her advisor, studying the aged man analytically before sighing, shaking her head. The king and queen died so long ago now -- the last war was unpleasant and the people called for her to take the throne for the victory, and she had obliged. But she had been a teen then and now, full grown, she had been expected to wed, to strengthen the world and give them a new royal family. When the warlord had come, she was wooed, into his arms and quickly, more; accepting his proposal readily. The senshi was known for polyamory, and he hd accepted it. They all had -- but this...
Guilt washed over her at misplacing the Proposal and her fingers moved to her lips, remembering his kiss when last they met, and she sighed.
"I'll find it, it must be here, ah, somewhere."
"My lady, you must! His ambassadors will not wait much longer, and then--"
"I know the risks." She interrupted. "I just - I just need time. I know I have it, I know..."
The senshi moved to seek the Proposal, moving deeper into the palace before beginning to search her bedchambers. By her bedside was a vase of flowers native to his world, fresh sent with an eagerness; interspersed were those from their partners' other worlds. The room was lavish -- too lavish for the former Generalissimo - but some itms were sentimental. Elpis was in the wardrobe, deep in the clothes, when she heard shouting, and paused to listen. There were screams, and there was fear -- the dull, rhythmic stamp of marching feet filled her ears and the senshi rushed to investigate, eyes wide.
"No, no no no no..." She panicked, and barged to find her palace a warzone. The senshi's eyes were wide as her advidors, guards, and soldiers died before her -- not an unfamiliar sight for the woman, whom had been raised a warrior forawakening, nor whom had seen battle before, They had lost patience; she was out of time. The warlord's soldiers were tired of waiting and had come for her -- her people, her world, he life, and she could feel a chill spying her betrothed across the room.
Their eyes met where she stood, horror and reghret on her face as the man drew near, the warlord approaching with a patient walk -- the walk of a man determined, and yet, as Elpis watched... He quivered. His gait was unsteady, and she looked to his eyes again. He didn't want to do this, She didn't either, but his people believed she insulted them -- insulted for one, small mistake, and mistake causing him pain, too. If anybody would listen -- would hear, it would be him, right? Elpis swallowed, and rushed for him, swallowing the building lump in her throat, and he seemed to briefly move to defend -- before she threw her arms around him; holding him tightly as she buried in him; drowned herself in his presence, his personal stance -- everything that was him, and for a moment, he seemed to falter, before starting to close his arms about her -- and then a searing, burning pain seized her as she found it harder to breathe. It was a haze as another pain began and she didn't let go, looking numbly at arrows embedded in her as she wheezed. Only then did he cling to her; did he latch on and hold her to him tightly. She tried to pull one out, only to cough as she did, and she realized her lungs had been pierced. She couldn't breathe, and everything felt dizzy. Surreal -- but he didn't let go. She was trying to bury and hide, a thin whimpr coming before an 'I love you' -- the words causing his to go still several moments as she coughed, sobbing as her vision swam, and she wheezed apology as her lungs failed to supply proper oxygen. She was dying. She knew she was dying -- he did as well, and internally, she berated herself -- for failing to provide for her people, for the deaths that were on her hands for a simple mistake; for the pain and grief, for everything.
She felt as if flying, trembling and slowly going limp, but soon found herself laid upon a soft surface - her bed? - as she looked. He was by her, looking equally apologetic. He understood; his eyes spoke for him as he took a flower from the vase, winding it in her white locks, and her body shuddered. Her eys began closing, and the thick sound of -- something piercing someone met her ears, eyes opening just enough to see him fall upon her, a knife in his hands driven into his form-- and she wailed mentally as her vision faded, and became nothing.
Epis' eys snapped open and thje senshi suddenly screamed, startling Miss Kitty. She screamed, and wept suddenly, holding the Proposal to herself as she shook, sitting quite still for some time, burying her face in the fabric in sorrow, shaking her head. Miss Kitty blinked in concern, watching before Elpis shuddered, and the mauvian nosed her hand. The hand drew the Mauvian in close, Elpis burying herself in the feline as she curlrd against her leg, and the senshi slowly calmed, bit by bit, before looking down.
"Here... It was put away by accident... But..."
Miss Kitty blinked, then, looked up, frowning.
"A memory?"
"Mmmhmmm. I... Died. Because we thought I had lost this. His people thought it an insult, and... They killed so many. But he..."
Shaking, Elpis rose, Miss Kitty following as Elpis walked, through halls in silence, eyes ignoring the frescos and state, followingher gut to a door, opening it.
Plants over-filled the room, but it was clearly once a bedroom. No traces remained but a daggar on the ground, tangled in roots and stained, and Elpis remained in the doorway, studying it before fgeeling an avche in her chest.
It had been a previous life, but so... Fresh, recalling it now. To die at his side -- together, as they'd planned to live, to aid both their people. And it had led to this. Elpis didn't know if he'd been reborn, and still remembered little -- about anything, but the senshi did know he had loved her, and she had loved him, and it was enough for her to kneel respectfully, looking down before slipping the Warlord's Proposal on, and she sighed, starting to cry once more.
"I'm sorry." She murmured. "I'm so sorry, I hadn't-- I never meant..."
A soft headbutt from Miss Kitty drew Elpis' focus, the mauvian looking up in worry at the senshi as she sniffled, wiping her eyes in curiousity.
"Maybe..." Miss Kitty swallowed. "Maybe we should go?"
A slow nod, and Elpis pulled the Proposal on, Miss Kitty tilting her head before smiling patiently, rubbing her legs as Elpis fumbled, drawing her phone out before looking to the knife one last time, and exhaled slowly. She would not forget him this life, not now. She would ensure it, from the precious jewel of the Proposal to the translucent fabric, sheer enough to see through, opaque enough to color, and she would bear his Proposal to do so -- to acceot the gift again and wear it proudly -- especially noting a very faint rise in energy levels that had dropped from crying, and Elpis lifted miss kitty into her arms, hugging her before pressing the button to go home.
It was a hard trip, but one, somehow, she now believed she had needed.
