Joy hadn't meant to avoid him since growing back up. But she needed to clear her head some and after hitting stuff and getting hit back, Joy felt she was in the right frame of mind to deal with someone who'd seen her when she was in a rather vulnerable state. Also she was suddenly told she was supposed to go on a mission to prove she was ready for promotion so there was that too but Joy felt the former was a much more important an issue to focus on.
Taking out her fancy phone, she gradually managed to send Clyde a message asking her to meet up at the cafeteria. And she promised she'd have coffee ready for him.

Clyde had eventually turned into a child himself at some point. but child Clyde listened to big Clyde's note. Big Clyde had enough foresight to stock his room with food and snacks so child Clyde wouldn't be too hungry. (it did happen, though Clyde didn't know when or how it would. Luckily his teenager self was pretty self sufficient and didn't need to much help.) But Clyde was very glad to be back to his old self. He did find it odd that he got a message. Was that joy? Odd. Well he showed up as asked simply because they were still getting reorganized after the last weirdness and he hadn't been assigned anything new yet. When he got there, he smelled coffee. "Ahhh you are after a man's heart with that."

Joy gave an amused snort, "If I were, I'd have brought some bacsilog to go with the coffee." She waved him over to pull up a chair as she poured the aforementioned beverage from a thermos and into a mug. "I just wanted to let you know a coupla things. First," she stood up to show him the back of her coat. "Guess who got promoteeeeed?" she chirped.

"What is bacsilog?" his American a** didn't know Joy. He just didn't know. "Oh someone got a promotion?" he grinned feigning briefly some confusion. "And who might that be. Was it me? Naw, I'd have thought I'd heard of it first." he accepted the cup of jo and settled down in the seat he moved next to her. "It must be a Joy." he said amused by his own joke.

Joy gave a rather unlady like snort of laughter, "Hellz yeah, it's a Joy, lookit how cool the designs on this coat are!" before plopping herself back down. "And bacsilog issss BACon, SInangang fried garlic rice, and itLOG egg." she translated. Of course it would be food, it's always food with Joy.
"When are you gonna get your fancy coat?" she teased back.

Clyde nodded and smiled as he admired the coat. Much better than his that was fore sure. Not that he wore his coat that often, too hot. "Looks good." "Ooo that sounds delicious." It had the word bacon in it, how could it not? "Me? I don't know. I think they just want me to build things, not advance." he laughed. Other than the occasional weird stuff, I don't think I've done a single mission with the actual, well you know." He gave a half hearted shrug. "It takes all types I guess."

"Oh yeah, you good with your hands? Good enough to, say, mebbe build me something like a rad shoerack? I can pay you with bacsilog~" she grinned.
Clyde's non-concern for his rank had Joy leaning back into her chair,"You know, if it weren't for that Sahara mission, I would have been totally oks with not being promoted." A shadow seemed to flit across Joy's face at the mention of mission, briefly dimming the usual light in her eyes but she blinked and it was gone. "But some stuff have made it look like the limits an entry-level trainee have are too much."

"Sure! If you pay for timber, I have access to the tools." that sounded like a good trade to him. "I wasn't on that mission. If you want to tell me about it I'll listen." he sipped at his coffee. He had been missing out. Probably because he was off island building things too often. Sometimes in some pretty unsafe conditions... "but you know if not that's cool too."

"Sure, I'll give you wood!" Joy chirped, seemingly unaware of what that turn of phrase could also mean. "Ah, yeah I don't think I saw you there at the Sahara. It was," her lips pursed as she thought "It was the one where we went into the desert to go save some guy named Dwight."
That part Joy had no problem talking about. It was simply the mission goal. But it was around there that Joy began to have more intense feelings of loneliness and homesickness.

"You could. I'm game for casual stuff too." he winked. Clyde totally didn't mind taking her mind off things if that's what she wanted. But he as certain that wasn't exactly what she meant. "Oh huh, no I should have gone along. Saving people sounds like... well why I joined." he hadn't actually done any of that stuff. He felt.. joining had been... well pointless. It also seemed there was some craziness happening on island... and not the kind he was supposed to fight against.

"Really? You joined to save people? That's a helluva lot better reason than me. I signed up because I wanted to get even." The regret in Joy's voice and expression was unmistakable, like she wasn't even bothering to pretend she'd done it all for some altruistic reason.

Joy shrugged off her coat so she could have access to her shirt. With no shame or second guessing in her movement, she lifted the hem high enough to show the scars along her side. Unlike the other scars that littered the rest of her body, these were big and deep. They weren't freshly healed but were visibly more recent than the others.
"I got told I could get back at the thing that gave me these." She grinned before lowering her shirt back down. "Haven't found it yet. Honestly, I don't remember much about it beyond it being shadowy. Now your turn. Tell me more about why you joined"

"Ooo ouch. That looks bad." he frowned. "Understandable but sounds like a tall order." "Me? I already told you. I thought I'd be making the world a better place. I've seen those shadows mess with people's lives and wanted a better way to fight them. It just feels less useful over here on an island in no where." he just didn't have a fancy reason.

"Yeah, it's like, I dunno, definitely feels like we should be doing more than the chores here." Joy said. "But I've been throwing myself into missions as often as I can. Dunno how useful I get but it's better than just sitting around, feeling sorry for youself." There was a hollow ring to her laugh.
"Wish we weren't dead though." She murmured softly.
