Nasuri browsed the wares, soon it was closing time considering how low the sun was in the sky. Usually she didn’t like to be out so late, her mother warned her of the dangers all the time after all. However, Nasuri felt she was capable and willing to risk it just a little longer. She reached the end of the stalls just as the man was covering his items, she gave him a small smile before moving on but not before a hand reached out from the alleyway and grabbed onto her arm.

“Look at dis pretty little thing.” The man moved towards her and Nasuri pulled back but was stuck.

“You need to let go of my arm right now!” Her eyes glanced at the now deserted merchants lane. This was not good.

Yitzah disliked Oba. After being in Matori so long, she disliked it even more - the arrogance of the people, the crowded, smelly cities, the people packed on top of each other... But she needed to sell her wares somewhere, and a Matori had told her that her particular wares - shells and sea-crystals - would sell best in Oba. It made sense. Logical sense.

But rationality went out the window as she glowered at the people milling around her and tried to find somewhere to trade her things. Some people glowered back.

The sun was getting low in the sky, and Yitzah glowered at it too - soon she'd have to find a place to sleep, and she'd have to do this whole cycle of trading tomorrow too. What a pain.

She left the market when...

"Look at dis pretty little thing"
"You need to let go of my arm right now!"

Yitzah stopped, squinting into the alleyway. A man was grabbing a young woman, about her age (in earthling terms, anyway), and something about the half-limp look on his face made her uneasy.

But what was happening there? Compelled by wariness, she waited a moment to see what would unfold...

“Now now, no need to get all upset,” the man began but did not release her. Nasuri pulled at her arm again but he yanked her forward throwing her body against his. “How about a drink pretty little thing?”

“I said no! Do you know who my father is?!” It was a soft excuse she knew, but her father would have this man’s head. “I said let go!” Nasuri turned, spotting an Alkidike not too far away. “Help me!” She yelled at the girl, surely she would come to help her?! She was obviously in distress and this man needed to let go.

This was... not good. Yitzah wasn't sure what was happening, exactly, but it was definitely not okay. And the girl had just called for help. So clearly help was needed.

She moved towards them, scowling. "Step off. Let her go." she snapped at the man, "You're ugly and she doesn't want to go with you." Both statements were true. It was logical, rational, but would he listen to reason? So far, she had found, Obans were really irrational.

But maybe this would be different and he'd go away.

Finally the Alkidike girl was helping her instead of watching. NAsuri tried to yank her arm again but to no avail. She was stuck.

The man turned to look at the Alkidike and laughed. “Mind your own business bug.” He narrowed his eyes at her and violently yanked Nasuri so hard that she had no choice but to move in the direction he’d pulled her in. She was behind him now as if he was protecting her from the Alkidike.

“Get off,” Nasuri finally balled her free hand into a tiny fist and hit the man on the arm, he didn’t even budge. She was a weakling.

"Ugh." Yitzah said, a gutteral sound of disgust. She lunged forward and grabbed the nearest bit of cloth. Even young as she was, she still towered over him. "You're ugly." she repeated, her nose wrinkling, "And you stink."

"She clearly wants you to go way." And with that, she punched him in the gut. "So go away." Yitzah growled, "And I'm not a bug."

Finally the man released her as he doubled over from the punch. Nasuri yanked her arm and was already on the move. She grabbed the other girl before she did any more damage to the man and ran a ways to hide behind a stand. The man fell to his knees as he wheezed out for air.

“That was brave,” Nasuri whispered as she hid behind the stand. “I didn’t think he was going to let go. Thank you for helping me.” Nasuri kept her eyes on the man who finally got up and rubbed his stomach before moving off away from them.

"Why?" Brave? Yitzah didn't know what she meant. She'd just beaten up someone who deserved it. What did brave had anything to do with that? She shook herself free of the girl's hand, rubbing it in annoyance - Yi did not like to be grabbed. "What did he want?"

She watched him go, ready to punch him again. Whatever it had been, she knew it was bad.

“What do you mean why?” Nasuri perked a brow at the girl’s questions. She was unsure as to what the why was directed at.

“What do you mean what did he want?” Did she not know what he wanted? Truly? Then again the Alkidikes didn’t have males in their society from what she’d learned of them so perhaps she really didn’t know. But how did you explain such a thing?

“I think he wanted to take me away.” Was all Nasuri managed to say. She came out of hiding when the man was out of sight. “And do bad things to me.” She concluded.

"He wasn't listening, so I punched him. How's that brave?" Yitzah asked, though she wasn't really that interested in the answer. More in the next question.

"I meant what did he want." Yitzah said, that was after all the most baffling, and the girl's answer didn't mean much to her. "But... why?" she asked, antennae tilting quizzically. Why would someone grab someone at random and want to do bad things to them?

“Because you saved me?” Nasuri stared at the girl, hands out as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Not everyone would have jumped in like you did.” Others might have moved on not wanting to get involved.

“Do you know anything about earthling…” What kind of word did she even use for that? “Breeding?” Did that make sense, she wasn’t sure she was exactly ready to have this conversation with anyone least an Alkidike!

Wait, really? "Well thats stupid. Why wouldn't they? You were upset and he wasn't listening." It seemed to Yitzah that anyone would have punched him then.

"N-no?" Yitzah replied, taken aback. What about earthling breeding? She didn't know, she didn't want to know, she didn't care. They weren't born from flowers, and she knew that somehow babies grew in the stomachs of mommies. And somehow, they came out. That was enough - she shuddered, not really wanting to know more than that. "What about it? W-what's that got to do with anything?"

“Some people are weak.” Nasuri shrugged.

“Well, to make these babies… a man needs to…” Nasuri made a face. Why. Why did she have to explain this?! “Put his baby making thing into the woman and release said baby making things.” Nasuri’s expression worsened. Even her own description of the events turned her off. She could only imagine what the poor Alkidike thought. “But sometimes people do it for pleasure. He wanetd pleasure and I did not. In any case, I did not want a child with that man end of story!”

"... They they need to be punched a few times. That'll shore them up." Well, probably not. Back home, punching weaklings made them even more sniveling. But still, this was a whole new level of weak. Maybe, if she punched someone like that, they'd go all the way back around to being strong or something? Yitzah had no idea. She also didn't see a way to pick out those people anyway, so they would have to remain un-punched for now...

As it was, Yitzah really wanted to back out of this conversation because it was getting so strange. She wanted to literally back away. "What?" she said. It was hard to tell if her face was turning green, considering, but there was definitely disgust written on her face - intense, confused disgust. "That... What?!" They had a thing? For making babies? But didn't women make babies? And... but...

"The what... goes into what... But... but why..." Her normally harsh voice softened in horror as she brought her hand to her mouth. Clearly, she was also nauseous at the thought of... whatever this was. "You... you aren't lying to me, are you?" she managed, trying to reassure herself. Yes. For whatever reason, this earthling was telling her a really disgusting and strange lie. "That can't be right."

“Well you can’t go around punching people!” Nasuri said, placing her hands on her hips. She’d get arrested and maybe even worst.

“Please don’t make me use technical terms,” Nasuri made her own faces of disgust. No, she did not want to have to explain anything more. “No I am not lying to you, but that is how Earthling babies are made! Alkidikes have it easy; they just have to ask for flowers!” Nasuri shivered. “Trust me you do not want to know any more than what I’ve already said.

And Nasuri felt like she’d already said too much.
