She should have called sooner, she really should have, what if the other was upset with her? What if they thought she didn’t want to talk to them again? She was waiting, as she had told the other she would be, at a small Indian restaurant. She had ordered herself food, as she’d arrived early, and was eating in order to help calm her nerves and her negative thoughts. She was worried, no matter what the other had texted her back, because it had been a week!
She had just been so busy and so caught up in her own thoughts that she hadn’t contacted the other, she’d lost track of time. It wasn't uncommon for her to do so but for so long...that was uncommon.

When Phedre stepped through the storefront door a bell ringed alerting the waitress that a new custom had arrived. When asked how many she simply smiled and pointed to where Mahari was sitting with her back turned towards the entrance. “I’m with her.” The woman then nodded and went back to her task at hand. ”Hey!” The young woman pulled the seat across from her acquaintance out from under the table and took a seat. “Looks like you’re starving. You ok?” She asked with a raised brow at the almost half eaten plate of food in front of Mahari. Normally people waited for all parties to arrive, not that it mattered too much but was at least something worth noting.

“I’m sorry I didn’t call sooner, I’ve been busy babysitting for my family. It’s not easy when you have four younger siblings as well as seven nieces and nephews to watch.” It got loud and busy and when the littlest ones got cranky it got even worse. She knew how to handle it though, she’d had a lot of time to learn in, but that still didn’t make it any easier.

“It’s fine. Really, don’t worry about it.” Phedre waived her hand dismissively before the poor girl had a nervous breakdown.

“I wasn’t sure if you would come and I arrived early. I don’t have the best track record for being on time.” So she had left really early, seeing as she had arrived early. “You can order anything you’d like - on me.” She said while pushing a menu toward the red haired female.
“I’m glad you came. I thought after not speaking for a week you might not.” The food was authentic, it was a place her family ordered from if they didn’t have time to cook or didn’t want to. The food was like her mothers and grandmothers - it was good.

“I admit I was beginning to wonder if you lost my number,” the rose haired girl winked teasingly. “But no, honestly, after seeing all those cars in front of your house I had a feeling you had your hands full or would be busy for a while.”
After finding the entree she had been looking for Phedre set the laminated piece of paper down and waited patiently for the waitress to come over. It didn’t take long for the woman who had greeted her upon arrival set a glass of ice water in front of her. “What can I get for you today?”
“Hi, can I get the Lamb Vindaloo with a side of Garlic Basil Naan?” she asked while pointing at the picture of the lunch special for today. A half size entree with rice and piece of naan. Just the right portions for someone who wasn’t quite starving yet. “Anywho,” She turned her attention back to her fellow corrupt borderline friend. “Tell me, have things started to get any better for you? Or are you still feeling lonely, alienated as you were talking about before?”

“I haven’t worked much this week, just enough to keep on top of things. I’ve been busy with babysitting. But I feel a little better having met you.” It was the truth, she did feel better knowing the other corrupted. But she still didn’t feel better about the Negaverse as a whole. She still felt like she wasn’t as wanted, but that was perhaps because nothing had happened to prove otherwise...though she’d again done nothing herself to change things.
“I don’t think it’ll change but I don’t even know how to change it. How to approach anyone or break the ice.”

Mahari at least had the first part down, partially anyway. She recognized the need for change however the execution seemed to have her stumped.
“Confidence is key; being nervous or shy, while some people think it is cute, can also be a big turn off in a lot of cases especially if other people feel like they have to drag a conversation out of you. One thing that might help would be bringing people into your comfort area. Like… when you go out…” Phedre motioned with her hand indicating that she meant more than an evening stroll with dinner and a cute guy but rather the patrols that they were supposed to be doing. “Invite others to join you in familiar neighborhoods; places you’ve been. You know?”

“But I don’t know what to say or how to approach them.” She answered softly. “I don’t have a lot of life experiences to talk about with other people...things in common. I stay home and babysit a lot...I have eleven siblings...four are younger. There are also seven nieces and nephews I watch and help take care of…” So she didn’t get out a lot, aside from university classes, and when she did it was normally with at least one child at her side. It left her lacking in life experiences though and things to talk about and relate to that others her age typically shared in common.

“So invite others to join you in familiar neighborhoods; places you’ve been. You know?” If it was hard for Mahari to go to others, why not just invite them to where she was at. Made sense, especially if potential partners were more flexible with the allotted time for patrolling.

“For..patrol?” She asked before nodding her head slowly. “I can do that…” She could do that, it was easier. Material to talk about might be limited but if something happened it would help, she hoped something would happen if she went out patrolling with someone...just to help smooth things over for her. She would need it.
“I’ll try and do that and keep in mind what you said.” It was why she had opted for this place to eat, it was familiar to her...plus she had been hungry.

“My suggestion, honestly, don’t sweat it. It is kind of like school. People are going to have their opinions, or fall into their cliques. You just need to find one that suits you and your schedule.” Phedre’s own contact with others in the Negaverse was slim but in all honesty she preferred it that way. Just enough contact to check in with superiors while she flew under the radar. So long as she avoided trouble, the plan offered her a sufficient amount of flexibility.
Before the conversation could continue much further, the waitress from earlier approached the girls and set down a plate in front of rose-red hair colored girl. “Please let me know if I can bring you anything else.” She politely added before dismissing herself to tend to other guests.
The food smelled more than amazing, especially the naan. Before she could even pick up her fork, her stomach made its demands clear to ‘hurry up’. After taking a bite she glanced over at her comrade, noting that she was still staring at her food. “You don’t seem satisfied with my suggestion. Or is there something else on your mind?”

It was true, it did feel a bit like school, that didn’t mean she liked it though - she hated it in fact. She had, in small ways and only a few times, tried to reach out and work with others. She had managed it once but that had left a foul taste in her mouth and the train car incident was even worse. Maybe she simply wasn’t cut out for this? This being the negaverse...or maybe just being a senshi side not mattering at all in her case.
Finding the people she could handle….putting herself out there and failing how many more times? Being expected to do things she wasn’t able to but had to when in front of others. None of it appealed to her...but she should try - right?
“It just seems impossible to find those I can have much in common with and become a team with.” Shrugging her shoulders she turned her focus onto her slowly cooling food. Picking her fork she went about eating, enjoying the familiar flavors as she ate.

“Instead of thinking of them as friends, I suggest thinking of them more like co-workers. The way I see it, the other agents aren’t there to be nice and have fun but rather to get stuff done. From what I’ve observed rank equals respect to a pretty high degree.” Not that it stopped individuals from mad mouthing superiors behind their back but at least they acted respectfully to their face; even if they were in disagreement.
“Best suggestion I can give you is to join one of the divisions, or whatever they’re called. You don’t strike me as being the aggressive type so maybe looking into the intel gathering would be more up your alley?” Phedre hummed.
There were several avenues Mahari could take that would get her further away from the ones that had distressed her so and hopefully connect her with like minded individuals instead.

“Maybe...and yeah - I’m not…” Her magic was more of a distraction sort of thing as well. It worked well on it’s own but a follow up, from someone else, would make it deadly and work well with it. She was good to work with others...she just didn’t like the idea of hurting innocent people, gathering energy was fine but hurting or killing civilians...wasn’t her thing.
“I suppose you’re right. I was looking for people to make into friends in this...since we all do the same thing. Normal friends, outside of this, seem hard to make because of the secrets and other things.” But it seemed like she couldn’t make friends of her own kind either. How did they manage normal lives, normal friendships, and have so many secrets? And know they might even be fighting those friends?
“I thought we couldn’t join one of them till after we gained a rank above basic or lieutenant…” She whispered before taking a bite of her own food. Well, if that wasn’t the case she would be best off moving to somewhere she could fit in and hopefully be of some use, as it was now she felt a bit useless.
