It had been strange to be a adult and know you had been a kid, and wile he had became an adult around Jordan, he hadn't had a chance to talk to him much since. Twitter had also been a terrible mess as well.

Debating, he flicked his phone out and sent Jordan a text.

Test to Jordan:
Labs cleared out. Coworker brought left some good coffee. Wanna cup?

Text to Melvin: The safe kind, I hope. I'll be there in a few. What room are you in?

Jordan had just gotten off kitchen duty, and he could really use a cup of coffee. And it would probably be a good thing to talk to Melvin and see where they stood after the strangeness of being children together for a while.

Text to Jordan:
No fear. We already had a pot this morning.
At Runic labs. Everyone else already cleared out.

He started the pot and cleaned out two mugs, going back to sit at his work station and look over a few files while he waited. It would be good to catch up and - clear any thoughts of feelings left by the childhood experience.

Jordan knocked on the doorframe shortly afterwards to announce his arrival. "Hey," he said, and came into the room, holding up an unopened bag of chips. "Thought I'd contribute. Kitchen duty has its privileges. How're you?"

Setting the paperwork aside on his desk, he gestured to a chair. The room was a hodge podge of various projects and desks, with various stones set and the different hues of blue glowing here and there. Needless to say, even when the lights were off, you wouldn't be blind. Further to one wall was larger equipment and machinery set with various runic tools hanging up and toolboxes with various names on them and stickers.

Melvin's desk had a few laptops, a printer, and a large, squarish device that looked brand new, a few stickers still stuck on.

"Oh nice. Take whatever perks you can get."

"I've....been well enough. A lot has happened since coming back into adulthood. My bed went from feeling too big and empty to feeling too small now. How about you?"

Jordan kept away from the various projects and machines as he crossed to Melvin's desk and took the indicated chair. He looked around with curiosity, though. He hadn't been to the runic lab too frequently.

He set the chip bag down on an empty space on the desk, taking care not to let the food touch anything runic. "I'm okay. It was ... kind of jarring, the difference between being a kid and being an adult again. Mental whiplash, I guess." He paused a moment, then added, "I went and told Rep that you and I aren't a thing. I think he believed me this time."

"Don't worry. The printer isn't runiced yet." He said to the chips being set near but not against it.

The dripping of coffee was starting and with it the smell of fresh coffee.

"Yeah. I forgot how I was back then. It's strange to be reminded how you thought and felt and then, now you are here. With some answers. Some you don't have answers for. I guess I was both grim yet optimistic something was going to happen by the time I was older."

Reminded of Rep, he breathed out, saddened by the thought of the man he was trying to make amends with. "To be fair, I went to see him when he was in the Infirmary before all this. I wanted to try to mend things, but when I mentioned I left Lawr and brought up I was crashing at your place, he thought I was only there to screw you. Probably because of all the rumors and who I'm with, and how I hurt him. He.....really didn't like hearing that I was anywhere near you let alone where you live. Nothing I told him would make him think otherwise. I was just a cruel liar to him. I couldn't get him to talk to me since....not that I actually deserve another chance with him."

"I really just....missed him a lot. We used to be close before I turned my back on him. Guess I'm feeling how he felt when I did the same to him. I just wish he would be fully mad at me for what I actually did and not what he thinks I'm up to."

Jordan leaned back in his chair and crossed his ankles. "I'm glad not to be fourteen any more," he said thoughtfully. "I was a different kind of a mess back then. A couple of people didn't get older again. Don't know why."

"I think he's lonely too," he said, and then, "Don't tell him I said that." He laughed a little, but without much humor. "I told him I'd try to come around more often. Maybe he'll talk to you, now that you're not on my couch any more."

"He isn't the type to forgive easily and you are precious to him. You are way above the ladder of people he gives a ******** about then I am." He rose up, going to check on the coffee nearby.

"It's strange.....but if all of us had met each other when we were kids, I think a lot of us would be happier. At least we would know we were in some sort of weird club and suffering the same things. I...want you to know that, I won't like, go about blabbing about anything we talked about kids. Pinkie Swear." He said, holding up his pinkie and crossing his heart in a act of childhood trust.

He started to fill up the mugs. "I was a bitter kid back then. It would have been nice to have a pen pal. I might have talked more."

He might have felt someone was out there on his side to handle things when things went dark in the world and in his mind. But Jordan had dealt with a lot more than he had.

"I....wanted to ask you something if you don't mind me asking. You don't have to answer but.....what happened to your family?" His brother. His mom. What had happened to Jordan after they both grew up?
PostPosted: Sun Feb 26, 2017 5:49 pm

"I could wish he cared less, sometimes," Jordan said, and sighed. "It doesn't make anyone's life easier."

"Yeah. Knowing that there were more of us around would have been a good thing, I think," he agreed. "Thanks, man. I won't say anything about what we talked about as kids, either." A small smile, and he mirrored the cross-my-heart gesture.

"It's okay," he said. "Mom ... didn't make it. She hung on as long as she could, but ... it spread." His eyes went distant and his expression quietly sad, looking back into a past that had been the immediate future not so long ago. After a moment, he took a breath and refocused. "Our aunt took us in, after that. Andy and I were both recruited while I was in college. But they didn't tell me about him. I thought he was dead too, and that really ******** me up for a while." He grimaced. "I only found out later that it was a golem in that car, and Andy was asleep in a pod."

"He is here? Like, in one of the pods now?" His eyes were wide as he froze, thinking of Lawr. Thinking of 2 disposed hunters who were strangers to him and of no importance to him.

"I'm sorry to her about your mother. It's strange that, once I became an adult, the child in me was praying she would get better despite knowing whatever happened good or bad has already come to pass. I didn't know you had such a rough life before all this. Was your aunt good to you?"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 26, 2017 6:14 pm

"He's awake now. In Sun, even." Jordan gave the dismayed expression on Melvin's face a slightly puzzled look. "I was worried when I found out. He'd been asleep for a long time. But I'm guessing his weapon got brought in after he did." He smiled, a soft-edged expression. "I'm just glad my dumb kid brother made it here. You know? But I genuinely regret what we must've put our aunt through, losing us, too." The smile slipped off at that thought.

"Thank you. It never goes away, not really, but the edges soften, over time. You learn to go on. I appreciated the sympathy." It didn't cause an upwell of tears, not now, when it wasn't so immediate. Just a familiar ache of sorrow. "Tia Rosa took good care of us. I know we made her life harder, but she was always good to us. We were family, and family was important."

He handed the mug over to him, relieved that Andy was not only alive, but out of a pod.

"I feel the same. My family stuck by me and despite resenting their worry and care, I knew that my death would have hurt them a lot. Like they failed to be there for me when they always had been there. I tried my best to write a letter to pass off the blame, but I know nothing I can do could change that. It's sad but, I sometimes wish I had a harder life just so no one would care if I died and I wouldn't have had to put anyone through that pain. I especially feel bad for my sister. We were very close."

And he couldn't reach out to her to help with any aspect of her life when he left or in the future. "I wish I could have still been there to help when things got rough. I left everything on my brother and sister now. I.....had to stop checking their facebook pages when I go off island. It started to be too much."

He took his own mug and stirred it, thinking about it all.

"How is your brother taking all of this?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 27, 2017 6:35 pm

"They thought I suicided, after everything." Jordan sighed. "I check their pages now and then. Not every time I go off-island, but sometimes. It bothers me more if I don't know, but it was hard to see myself mentioned. I'm sorry about your sister," he added, sympathetic.

"Andy's adapting well. He seems to have a pretty good bond with Rex, and he comes by if we haven't seen each other in a while. It's weird, in some ways. It's not what I would've picked for him, but it was his choice, and it's good to be able to see him and talk to him again. I guess might've been less okay with it if I hadn't believed he was dead for so long. The relief went a long way toward reconciling me to the whole thing."

He sipped his coffee, wrapping his hands around the mug.

"I hate that kind of lie, but it is the cleanest cut I suppose. Last thing I'd want is for my family to be unable to move on by thinking I was missing or coming back somehow. That kind of fruitless hope can destroy a person." And he went quiet as he drank his coffee.

"Have you warned him about who not to trust in the island?"
