Malea looked behind her as she swam, looking, waiting for the signal that she had gone too far. Usually her fathers were more than over protective of her and wouldn't let her out of their sights. But today was different. She had asked if she could go out and play in the waters farther away from their home, and for some reason beyond her understanding they had actually said yes!
She gave a small kick, enough to pick up her speed just a bit and continued her swim. She could see the start of the bank ahead of her, and from the blurred reflections of the water she thought she could see someone on the other side. Was someone out in the air?
Male poked her head above the water, watching the other kid before she moved her head just enough out of the water to use her voice. "What are you doing out here?" She questioned the other kid.

Liloa first thought they were talking to someone else. Yep, no one would be talking to them. But then, they realized well there was no one else around to talk to. Ok, so maybe they were talking to them. At first they were scared, Liloa hadn't talked to strangers much. Their parents were usually protective since they were their only child. The only people they ever got tot talk to was their cousins and boy were they annoying.
"Nothing much, just looking for some good materials I can make something out of," was the reply they gave to the stranger.
They slowly walk towards the stranger and extended their hand out for a hand shake -- that was what they did these days right? Give handshakes to strangers? Well, they sure hoped so or they would be looking so stupid right now. 'Ah, stupid parents, always so protective,' they thought to themselves.

Malea watched with curiosity from the safety of the water as the other kid walked towards the bank and held their hand out. Malea paused to contemplate what she should do. If she went to shake their hand... she would have to get out of the water. It was one thing to do that in the safety of her own room, but she didn't think her fathers would allow her to do it so far away from home. She dipped back under the water, looking in the direction of her house, but didn't see anyone to stop her from going.
She poked her head back out of the water and swam towards the edge of the bank. She got as far as she had to in order to reach out and grab the menehune's hand, shaking quickly and then taking a couple steps back into the water, letting it rest at her waist. "What... are you making?" she asked hesitantly.

Well, that was a an awfully quick handshake. Liloa had no idea how to respond to that. Before she could ask the name of her new "friend", they already had gone on to ask her what she was making.That was quite an interesting question since Liloa had no idea themself. They just knew they were gathering some things.
'What should I tell her?' Liloa wondered. Should they just tell her that they weren't sure or make up something cool and maybe she would help them make something cool?
"Well, I'm not so sure myself...Maybe you could give me a suggestion?" Liloa found themself saying. Well... I hope that wasn't too weird of a suggestion. They'd never tried to make something with someone else before, but it seemed like fun.
