[~Welcome~]
As you walk into the low-lit room, violin music seems to play just at the edge of your senses and there is a subtle scent in the air ... all very mysterious.
Looking around, you step a bit farther into the room ...
"Hey, who're you?" a voice calls behind you. You turn around to see Manda standing in the doorway. "Eh, you must be a friend of Hamel's, right?" she asks when you turn. Before you can answer one way or the other, she's talking about. "Well, he's not here right now, but you can wait around if you want." She turns and leaves.
There are several somewhat neat piles of ... things ... in different areas of the room, pictures scattered here and there, and a few notes lying around.

[~RP Log 1~] Elysia Kavanagh This was getting ridiculous! The third time in... how long? Sileust couldn't quite remember, but she knew it hadn't been long.
"Maybe Mother just wants to spend time alone with Father?" Rosalie offered, sitting down on one of the couches and arranging her full skirts around her.
"... Ew! That's just... ew," Sileust exclaimed, shuddering at the thought. "Just... ew."
"I think that it's romantic," Rosalie responded in a huff, turning up her nose and looking away. "Forbidden love, only expressed through the quiet reading of old books that smell of dust and sand..." She sighed, dreamily, and flopped down along the length of couch.
"Ew," Sileust affirmed, and sat down on the floor. Manda Standing outside the door of the shop, Manda glared up at Hamel, refusing to back down. "You NEED to be around other people and talk to them instead of hiding all the time and just playing your damn violin.""No, I don't," he replied, stubbornly, crossing his arms over his chest and looking away."Yes. You do." Her own hands were on her hips. "And aside from that, I've got to take care of some things around town today and I don't want you trailing along behind me and scaring everyone off.""I don't scare anyone," he said flatly."Yes you do," she repeated. "You glare and people run away. It would be funny except there's times that it's really not necessary." She sighed slightly, glad that she had little brothers and knew SOMEthing of how to deal with stubborn boys. Since he acted more like a boy than a man."You can't make me go in there," he said, finally looking at her.And with that, she knew that she had won. She narrowed her own eyes, letting him see clearly that she wasn't going to argue about it anymore. "Oh yes I can. What are you going to do, run away?" Before he could reply, she turned and opened the door, then shoved him inside. "Go. Socialize a little. Have fun, or don't. Just don't leave and I'll be back in an hour or so."Snarling, he let her push him in and heard the door shut behind him. Blinking in the dimness, he glared at the room as if it were at fault and sidled off to stand over to one side. Elysia Kavanagh "Dear sister, they're our Mother and Father! Of course they're in love, and it's a beautiful thing!" Rosalie waved a hand dismissively. "And-"
Sileust jumped up and clapped her hands over Rosalie's mouth. "Sssshhhhh... new person! Never seen him before in my life. At least, I think it's a he. He's got really pretty hair."
Rosalie glared up at her sister, crossing her arms.
"Hello there!" the doll called out, smiling at him. Then she tilted her head to the side a little. "I've never been over there. Is it interesting?" Manda He jumped slightly, startled out of his thoughts and grumbling to himself. He blinked at her, and thought about just not replying at all. But somehow ... Manda would hear about it and he'd have to listen to her lecture later.
"Not really," he replied, a bit shortly. Elysia Kavanagh "Oh. Well. There are..." She glanced around. "There are cookies over here!" From the tone of her voice, she obviously hadn't noticed that before. She immediately let go of her sister and scooted across the floor to the nearby table, grabbed a cookie, and began to nibble at it, happily.
Rosalie sat up, gracefully, touching one hand to her head in an attempt to gingerly fix her curls. "You'll have to forgive my sister," she said politely, rising from the couch. "She can be rather excitable. My name is Rosalie, and she is Sileust." The girl dropped a curtsy, looking at Hamel through slightly-lowered lashes.
"I hope we haven't frightened you too much. I promise to keep my sister in control if you come over here and sit with us." Manda He blinked at her, staring for a moment without really knowing what to do. Finally, he decided that maybe it would be better to go ahead and just ... socialize. A little. That's what he'd been more or less ordered to do anyway. He didn't have to like it ... and he could always retreat again.
Pushing off the wall he was leaning on and walking toward the couch, he said, "I'm not afraid of you." Belatedly, he realized he should probably introduce himself. Stopping at the end of the couch, he offered a small bow, just to be polite since she had curtsied first. "Hamel." Elysia Kavanagh "Oh, good!" Sileust got out around a mouthful of cookie. "I-"
Rosalie smacked Sileust upside the head, smiling pleasantly at Hamel. "It's not polite to talk with your mouth full, dear sister," she chirped through gritted teeth.
"It's very nice to meet you, Hamel." Another curtsy.
"Yesh! Verah nice to meet ya."
Smack. Manda Watching them, he edged slowly around the couch to sit down, though he stayed at one end of it. He wasn't entirely sure HOW to socialize ... he had some vague idea that it was just talking, but this seemed more complicated than that.
A little unsure, he tried not to let that show as he echoed her words. "Nice to meet you, too." Elysia Kavanagh Rosalie glanced around surreptitiously, then reached for a conveniently located pot. She poured some of its contents - tea? Cocoa? - into even more conveniently located cups, then handed them out.
"So-"
"Were you kicked out of your house, too?"
Rosalie stiffled a groan and sipped at her tea... and realized, to her utter horror and dismay, that it was cold and bitter. Manda He took one but didn't try to drink it, just spun the cup in his hands, almost but not quite a nervous habit. "Uh," he started off, then stopped ... and started over.
"No, I wasn't ... I'm just here for an hour or so." He hoped. If Manda didn't forget and stay out all day long. Elysia Kavanagh "Ah-"
"Oh, that's good to hear! We get kicked out of the house a lot. Mom doesn't like us hanging around, lately..."
Rosalie reached, helplessly, for the cup. "Erm..."
"But that's okay, because we got to meet you! And it's always nice, meeting new people. Really very nice."
"If I could just-"
"Do you like meeting new people, Hamel?" Manda He didn't even really notice her reaching for said cup, too busy trying to keep up with the other girl ... doll ... whatever. He stared, finally managing to somewhat catch up about the time she asked the question at the end.
To tell the truth, he really didn't like it that much, but he wasn't sure if it was "social" to say such a thing. So he just shrugged, not offering any real answer at all. Elysia Kavanagh "Ah, I see!" She really didn't, but that was beside the point.
Rosalie bit her lip, eyeing the tea cup nervously. "Ha-"
"Well, here - since you're here anyway, you should meet my daughter!" She pulled out Galatea, that odd, cobbled-together half-doll half-scarecrow in a dress made of an old potato bag. "Her name's Galatea!"
"I ju-"
"And she's very happy to meet you!"
That was it. That was it. Rosalie lunged forward, snatching at Hamel's teacup. "IfIcouldjusthavethatbackforaminute!" Manda He blinked as once again, she babbled on at him about something he could barely understand. But he WAS trying ... really. At this point, he didn't really think he COULD escape. He had the feeling if he tried to back off, she would only follow him.
Startled when Rosalie darted toward him, he hissed before he thought about it and tightened his grip on the cup. A second later, he relaxed, letting her have it when his mind caught up with his instincts. "S-sorry ... " Elysia Kavanagh Unfortunately, the jostling of the cup caused a bit of a spill that landed all over Rosalie. She groaned, set the cup on the table, and fell on her back on the floor. "I hate my life," she muttered, rubbing her eyes with her hands.
"Um." Sileust poked her sister. "Rose? You okay?"
"I hate the world and I want to die," she hissed. "I'm covered in cold tea! COLD. TEA."
Sileust shrugged helplessly and looked at Hamel. "I'm really sorry, she's normally not like this..." Manda He just stared at them for a moment, then blinked and recovered. "No, it's my fault," he mumbled, looking around for some kind of towel. Conveniently, there were some napkins near where the pot and cups had been.
Grabbing a handful, he slipped off the couch and offered them to Rosalie with another murmured apology. Elysia Kavanagh Rosalie slowly sat up and took the napkins from him, blushing. "The tea was cold," she murmured, not meeting his eyes, as she began to dab at the stain. "I should have checked first..."
"Maybe he likes cold tea, Rose. You could have just asked."
She stilled for a moment, shaking, and fought the urge the throw something at Sileust. Then, slowly, she returned to drying herself off. Manda He frowned slightly, wondering why she was so upset about that. "Is ... that such a big deal?" he asked after a moment. He didn't quite ignore the other girl, but she hadn't really been talking to him anyway. Elysia Kavanagh "It's rude to give somebody, especially somebody... you've just met, cold tea. It tasted bad, too." She stuck out her tongue a little, delicately. "I was just going to carefully take it back and add sugar, or something, so that it might taste a bit better, but..."
Sileust looked at her sister... then at Hamel. Then at her sister again. Then at Hamel.
"Hamel and Rosalie, sittin-"
Smack. Manda Hamel tilted his head, listening, and then nodded. "Oh. I can see how ..." but broke off when Sileust started to say something and got smacked for it.
He looked from one to the other, one brow slowly going up. Elysia Kavanagh "It's not important. Don't pay any attention to her - she lost it a while back, mother sometimes says."
"-in a tree! K-I-S-S-I--"
Rosalie's face flamed up and she jumped on her sister, clapping her hands over her mouth. "Pay no attention to the girl inside the doll!" Manda He continued to stare at them, completely lost now. He had more or less figured out that what Siluest was chanting was meant to be embarrassing, but he wasn't quite sure how.
So, more to spare Rosalie, he just nodded. "I ... see ..." Elysia Kavanagh "She's delusional. That has to be it." She glared down at the girl beneath her, who squirmed and laughed. "I should take her back home... tell mother to call the men in white coats."
Suddenly, Sileust wriggled free. "First comes love, then comes marriage, then co-"
And that was about when Rosalie tackled her sister back to the floor. "Delusional, I tell you," she muttered. "Have any tape? A gag of some form?" Manda "N-not really," he replied, still watching them a bit warily from where he now crouched on one knee beside the couch. Slowly, he was starting to get what Siluest was taunting about ... having heard just enough of the first part of that latest rhyme. Elysia Kavanagh "... I've got it!" She glanced at Hamel. "There's a small pocket in my skirts, over here on my left. There's a handkerchief in there. Can you get it for me? I don't trust her enough to let her go at this point..." Manda "I ... uhm ..." He snapped his mouth shut and just moved, edging toward them cautiously. Leaning over, he reached for that pocket ... and overbalanced just a bit. With a startled yelp, he pitched forward, falling against her. Elysia Kavanagh "Umph!" Rosalie's face turned roughly the same color as her dress as she suddenly found herself stuck, very literally, between a Hamel and a hard place (namely, Sileust). It was not entirely comfortable.
"Ah.... er... I mean... uh..." she stammered, biting her lip.
Sileust just laughed, squirming and generally making things difficult. Finally, she managed to get free just long enough to say, rather loudly, "And then comes the baby in the baby carriage!"
Rosalie promptly let out a small sob of defeat. "I really, really hate my life sometimes..." she murmured. Manda He scrambled off of her and backwards after a moment, his own cheeks flushing slightly. Looking away, he stammered out, "I-I'm sorry ... I ..."
Getting up, he backed off farther, going back toward that darkened part of the room. Yea. Socializing ... it apparently never turned out well. Elysia Kavanagh Rosalie clambered to her feet as well, shaking, and grabbed Sileust. "We're going home, beloved sister of mine," she hissed, dragging her towards the exit.
Laughing her head off and clutching her "daughter" to her chest, she waved to Hamel. "Bye! Feel free to stop by the house any time~"
"I'm telling mother!" Rosalie cried, reaching the exit and pushing Sileust out of it. Then she took a deep breath, turned, and dipped an unsteady curtsy to Hamel. "It was... pleasant meeting you... er... I'll try not to bring her next time." The last part was practically whispered, and then she rushed out, dragging Sileust off and away. Manda Still confused and now embarrassed himself, he just watched them until they were completely out of the room then went over to the couch, sinking down onto it. He leaned his head back, eyes sliding closed. What ... had he gotten himself into?

[~RP Log 2~] Elysia Kavanagh For once, Rosalie came alone. She was dressed, as always, in some glorious dress or another, hair curled, nails painted. Sighing, she sat down on one of the couches, pouring herself a glass of tea - it was warm, this time - and trying to relax.
"Finally... peace and quiet," she said, taking a sip of tea. "No Sileust, no Mother, no rambunctious kittens..." Manda He was hiding back in his customary corner when she came in, and just watched her, making no move to join her or to betray his prescense there. Manda had brought him by earlier and actually given him a choice to stay at the shop or go with her. He'd chosen to stay, but only because it was warmer in the shop ... the last few days had been cold for this season and he didn't like it.
At least, that's what he'd told Manda when she'd raised her brows at him in surprise at his choice. He sighed slightly ... asking himself yet again what he was really doing here. Elysia Kavanagh Another sip of tea. Then she set it down on the table, murmuring something that sounded like, "Stupid family..." and putting her face in her hands.
In a way, it was odd for Rosalie to sit like that, head bowed and eyes closed. At home, she was always happy, cheerful, demure... sometimes irrational. But even a flower need a break, sometimes. Especially from a hyperactive... child. Like Sileust. Manda Unable to help watching, he tilted his head just slightly at that. He almost took a step toward her, then caught himself, moving back with a soft hiss. Just what was he doing? It had nothing to do with him ... Elysia Kavanagh Rosalie sat quietly for another moment, then lifted her head, folding her hands and sitting back in the chair. "Peace and quiet," she repeated, lips twitching slightly. "Peace and-"
She had spotted Hamel. Her eyes caught something about him - his clothing, his hair - some small thing that was visible, and she shot to her feet, taking a few steps backwards towards the door.
"Calm, calm..." she muttered to herself, trying to school her expression into something less... frightened? Surprised? Manda He blinked at her abrupt movement, then realized it was because she had spotted him. Great, what now? Though he didn't go toward her, he moved, crossing his arms over his chest.
"No sister today," he said finally, voice quiet. It wasn't a question, since he could see very well that she was alone. Elysia Kavanagh "N-no... she's out... with Scarecrow..." Her cheeks were touched with a little more color than what was provided by her make-up. "Mother's cleaning the house, so I came here..." Another small step back. Rosalie's hands clutched at the fabric of her skirt, nibbling on her lower lip. Manda "Mm," he replied, a rather noncommital noise. "You like it here?" he asked after a moment, still not moving out of his darkened corner. Having spent most of his life in the back area of the shop, he'd been glad to get out, no matter that his "owner" could be quite annoying sometimes. Elysia Kavanagh "I don't know many other places to go. And it has been very quiet here, lately." Rosalie seemed to be calming down a little - she stayed where she was. She didn't move back towards her chair again, though, and she still had yet to let go of her dress. Manda He blinked, then shrugged. "I guess it is quiet here," he conceded, glancing around the room. Elysia Kavanagh "And it doesn't smell of cleaning chemicals. That's nice, as well." She fidgeted. "Er... the tea's warm today," Rosalie commented, blushing again. "If you want some." Manda He hesitated a moment, then finally did step forward, into the light and headed for the couch. "Why not?" There wasn't anything else to do, and well ... the socializing hadn't gone too badly the last time. Except at the end. Elysia Kavanagh Rosalie nodded and finally approached her former seat again. She took the other empty cup and poured Hamel some tea. "Sugar? Honey?" Manda "A little honey," he answered, edging closer and perching on the couch, watching her. He didn't want to get too close, thanks to what happened the -last- time he'd done so. Elysia Kavanagh She fixed his cup and held it out, saucer and all, to him. "Here you go, then." Her hand trembled slightly... but spilling the tea again would not be a good thing. Manda "Thank you," he said quietly, taking the cup and sipping at the tea. His eyes lidded slightly ... it was pretty good. Elysia Kavanagh "You're... er, you're welcome." She pulled her hand back and sat down in her seat. "I'm... I'm sorry about what happened last time," Rosalie murmured, wringing her hands. "Sileust can be a bit uncontrollable at times... and I wasn't much better."
Suddenly, she fell from her chair and knelt prostrate on the ground. "Please forgive me!" Manda He jumped slightly when she did so, eyes going wide. What in the ... well, if it was that important. "I ... of course," he answered, blinking and sounding somewhat startled. Elysia Kavanagh She rose to her feet again, sitting back down in her chair and reaching for her cup of tea. "Thank you...." she said, sheepishly, taking a delicate sip. Manda He watched her for another moment or two, then sipped at his own tea again. When the silence started to get a little uncomfortable, he said quietly, "It wasn't that big of a deal." Elysia Kavanagh "Are... are you sure?" Another sip. "Because it seemed like it was. To me." Sip. "That is to say... it shouldn't have happened. Especially not that way. It wouldn't have been so bad if Sileust hadn't been singing that stupid rhyme..."
She shrugged, coloring yet again and taking one last sip before setting the cup down. "I don't have any idea where she got that idea from," Rosalie confessed, bowing her head. "I was just being polite... and well-behaved..." Manda He just shrugged in response. "She is ... younger, correct? Children do strange things." To be honest, he still wasn't entirely sure why said rhyme had so embarrassed Rosalie. After all, nothing about it was true. Elysia Kavanagh "Actually, she's older than I am," Rosalie said, reaching for a macaroon from the bowl on the table. Sileust would be sorry she missed out! "Mother... adopted me because she wanted Sileust to have a sister. Sileust does have one other sister, about her age... I've never met her. Mother says she's gone 'stark raving mad' and lives in an abandoned laboratory." The girl shuddered, nibbling daintily on her cookie. "Father says that he's just going to give up on keeping us away from 'dangerous menfolk'.
"See, Sileust is courting Scarecrow. He's more than a little gone, too, but in a more... scary way. He likes to hear people scream. He likes how sister can make her head spin all the way around." Another shudder. "And from what I understand, Sil - the other sister - is living with a violently insane boy named Crane. Which is slightly odd... since Scarecrow's "dad" - more like caretaker - is named Crane, too.
"But... yes. Needless to say, Mother and Father are at the ends of their wits... not to mention utterly exhausted from running a 'reintigration' program..." She finished off the sweet, licking her fingers. "Ah... yes. I'm rambling, forgive me!" Manda He just watched her through all of that, blinking slightly here and there. "Well ... your family certainly sounds, uhm. Interesting," he finally said, leaning up to take one of those cookies himself.
"I only live with Manda ... and a few other pets. No siblings, really." Elysia Kavanagh "It's... hectic. Doesn't help that Mother's working..." Rosalie paused, pursing her lips and counting on her fingers. "Book shop... Dumyr reintigration... lectures... desert dig..." She furrowed her brows. "I think that's all. But yes, she's working four jobs. And trying to clean the house. Father says she needs to stop and get some rest, but that's not going to happen any time soon..." Manda He nodded slightly. "Sounds like it ... and sounds like a lot of work." He nibbled at the cookie he'd picked up, seeming to think for a moment. "I don't really think ... that Manda does much. Though I think she runs a few shops. Maybe?" Elysia Kavanagh "Mother needs to do it, so we can finish paying off the house. After all, Father can't really work... Sileust would probably break everything if she tried... and I..." She blinked. "I'm selfish and don't want to do anything, I suppose. That's terrible of me, I know..." Manda "Not really ..." he replied, glancing to one side and then back toward her. "If that's true, then I'm selfish too." His voice was still it's usual quite tone, but there was something else underneath it with that statement, though he may not even notice it himself. Elysia Kavanagh She laughed, relaxing a little. "Well, then. We shall be selfish together!" Clapping her hands in mock delight, she stood up. "Take a turn about the room with me? I've been sitting too much today - I need to move around a little."
She held out her hand to him. Manda Hamel blinked. Did she just mean, walk around? Well ... he mentally shrugged; that was fine. So he stood, taking her hand more to be polite than because he needed help. Elysia Kavanagh As soon as he was up, she let her hand drop and began to slowly walk around the room. "So... your home life is tranquil? I think that would get on my nerves a little after a while. It's one thing to be alone and peaceful... but for an entire household? I might wonder if something was wrong with them all." Manda "Eh ... I wouldn't say ... tranquil," he replied, wincing just slightly as he started walking beside her. After all, there were always lots of rather strange people coming and going. And most of them, he had no idea who they were or where they came from.
He tended to go and hide in his room whenever someone weird showed up. Elysia Kavanagh She caught the wince, blinking and canting her head to one side. "Did I strike a chord...?" Rosalie asked, sounding worried. "I... I'm sorry..." Manda Hamel shook his head slightly, continuing to walk. "No, not really ... Manda just brings these weird people home all the time. Or they just show up. So it isn't very quiet ..."
He wondered for a moment at her choice of words ... strike a chord. Hm. Elysia Kavanagh "Oh. Well, it's sort of the same at my home... mother's reintigration program means we have potential caretakers coming over, interviewing, picking up things... but most of them seem relatively normal, from what I've seen. She normally kicks Sileust and me out, though..." Manda He nodded at that. "Doesn't want you you 'in the way?'" he asked after a moment. Elysia Kavanagh "Exactly," she affirmed, nodding. "Mother and Father... don't have the best temperments for being parents, I believe." Manda He tilted his head slightly, curious now. "Why do you say that?" he asked, turning his head to watch her as he continued to walk around that room. Elysia Kavanagh "They go from being overprotective - Father threatened Scarecrow with bodily harm at one point - to seeming not to care. Mother is also often biting sarcastic... sometimes Father, too. I don't think they knew what they were getting into when they adopted Sil and Sileust, and now, sometimes... I think they wish they had never made that decision." Manda He blinked at that, and was quiet a moment, then replied, "Have you asked?" Another moment of silence. "People assume things too often." The statement wasn't accusing, just an observation. Elysia Kavanagh "I've heard Mother mentioning it to Father," she admitted, pausing and hanging her head. "It was late at night - I wasn't supposed to be up. She said that we'd all been mistakes. Father said that we were happy mistakes. Mother said that sometimes she wasn't so sure any more, and missed when it was just the two of them... or just her by herself. She said we added too much to her life, that all we did was cause more trouble.
"Maybe I should get a job, just to make myself worth something." Manda "Oh ..." He didn't quite know what to say about that, so he kept quiet for a few more minutes, thinking. He didn't much like certain aspects of himself either but ...
"I don't think you are a mistake." Elysia Kavanagh She glanced up at him, quickly, eyes wide for a moment. Then she looked away, smiling a little. "... Thank you. Mother was probably just tired.... I'm sure life without us would be much less stressful, but I think now that we're here, she couldn't bear to part with us. Sileust said that when Sil had her... accident and lost all memory of our family... she said she heard Mother crying that night. Mother doesn't cry. So... she must care deeply for us, even if she wishes we weren't such a chore." Manda He nodded at her words. "You would know better than I ... " He hadn't really meant to start anything, he'd only been stating his opinion. But he found himself ... well, happy ... that what he said seemed to have helped. Elysia Kavanagh "I guess I just needed somebody to bounce possibilities off of," she confessed, "who would listen and then give a serious answer. Sound about right?" Manda "Mm ..." He just hummed slightly in reply, but it was in an agreeing tone. "I ... am glad I could help then," he said after a moment of quiet.
