A Murder to Give Anyone Paws About a week ago, you received an invitation in the mail. You were asked to a Murder Mystery Party from someone anonymous. The invitation included a description of the character you were going to play, and specified an "old-fashioned" dress code, whatever that means. Tonight, you'll be transported to another world, another time, and another life. Tonight, you're going to witness a murder.
Rules:
This is a free, RP-based mini event. Please read the Guide to the Worlds forum in its entirety before participating in this game. Daily participation is expected. This game should not last longer than 3-4 days, so you will need to be available during each phase. If you do not post once during the entirety of a phase, you will be considered inactive and booted from the game. No heavy gore descriptions are allowed. Your character is literally attending a Murder Mystery Party. This is something that occurs IC that your characters are welcome to discuss in the future. Deaths are not real nor permanent. Characters who "die" are sent to a nice room where they eat snacks and drink punch until the party is over (: You are not to reveal your role to anyone, ic or ooc, whether you are a guest or a suspect. Similarly, you may not ask people if they are the murderer. If I catch word that someone is asking around, they will be removed from the game immediately. Your character's backstory is not to be disclosed except through natural dialogue. Long backstory monologues are discouraged. Let the characters mingle naturally and let the story take them along!
Guidelines for Primary Suspects:
You will be given private instructions from smolderingskies on how to push the game along. When you receive these instructions, please send a PM back immediately saying that you have received it, then perform the action you are instructed to do. You will be given freedom to play your character how you want, but certain key interactions help give hints to the story. If 30 minutes go by and there has been no response or action on your part, someone else will be sent an action PM. If your character "leaves the room," please wait until you receive word from smolderingskies to return to the room. Play your character based on how they would act based on the character sheet you are provided. Don't wait to be told to play your character - just do it! Your character sheet may not match up with some aspects about your character, and there are some age disparities (i.e., juniors playing roles of 40+ year old men). Don't take it too seriously, just have fun with it! Even if you are not the murderer, you must be the ultimate red herring. Act suspicious, say suspicious things, leave the room and come back without being prompted, get some ketchup on your shirtsleeve. You want people to think you're the murderer, and then second-guess themselves. Because everything can be subtly analyzed in a forum RP setting, muddy it up a bit!
Guidelines for Guests:
Primary Suspects will be given private instructions from smolderingskies to prod the story along at unspecified intervals, so pay attention to what your fellow players have to say or do! There will be no GM posts unless intervention is necessary, or unless the game needs to be put on pause. Although Guests do not come with a backstory, Guests have the privilege of creating their own backstory! Maybe your backstory will be good enough that people might think you're the murderer - who knows? Guests must still be present during the game - interact, ask questions, and try to figure out what's going on! If your character "leaves the room," they may not return until receiving word from smolderingskies. You will be asked to actively participate in the investigation, so be ready to point some fingers!

Welcome to the Wagging Tails Spectrefox Rescue Charity Party! It's the event of the year around here, and almost everyone attending is an important employee or affiliate of the rescue. Celebrities, prestigious spectrefox breeders, interns, employees, and volunteers of the organization all come together for a fun, professional event. Snii Vye is the CEO of Wagging Tails, aged 60 years. Tonight, he will be announcing his heir to the corporation, and the air is abuzz with excitement about it. Will it be his longtime friend and trusted VP, AJ? His son, Luno? Or perhaps someone else entirely?
Someone has transformed the Academy's Auditorium with enchantments into a lavish ballroom. The floor is laid with a plush, intricately detailed red carpet, and some pillars seem to be stretching toward the ceiling. The walls are covered in even more intricate wallpaper, and crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling to light the room. Various refreshments and the finest hor d'ouerves are being carted around on trays by butlers dressed in tuxedos and pantsuits - are they magical illusions themselves, or employees of the Academy roped into earning a few extra bucks for this event? Nobody can be sure. Soft piano music is playing delicately from somewhere, and you notice the room is a bit stuffy and warm from the crowd.
Take this introductory time to mingle and get to know the other people attending this party. Remember - have fun!
The real start of this game will not begin till about 5-6pm EST due to multiple people having work/not being online till later.

It was fun to be back at the Academy, and amusing to be sweeping through the halls dressed as xe was. Arriving at the Auditorium however, Charon stopped briefly in the doorway to take it in. After a moment, xe smiled. Xe was dressed perfectly for the occasion indeed, and with a snap of xyr fan, xe entered. Dressed in a shiny blue corset with a fluffy and just as shiny green dress and finished off with a feather fan with an eye pattern on the ends and a possibly real (but most likely fake) spectrefox pelt over a dark blue shawl, Charon fanned xemself and looked around, smiling serenely at the other participants of this game. It was fun to play a role, and Charon had every intention of being an absolute ham about it.
(OOC note for interacting: While Charon is androg and uses non-binary pronouns which I will continue to use, xe is playing a female role and unless your character is somehow acquainted with Charon and knows xyr pronouns, it's perfectly okay to use female ones to refer to xyr in this situation.)

Arachnne was so excited to be back at the academy she hadn't been back since she graduated from her senior year and went to start her library. She was dressed in a long blood red dress with a slit up the side and red high heels. She felt so fem fatal. It was an amazing feeling and she was looking forward to this murder mystery party. She looked around at the props and the first person who had arrived at the event.

x x xSeren was beyond excited for the party. He probably wasn't going to be the best at it, but it would be fun to play pretend anyways. Seren allowed himself a delighted grin before stepping into the auditorium. As soon as Seren's feet were on the plush red carpet he was no longer a student but an adult with a love for spectrefoxes. The geist already felt the warmth of the room and decided to remove his jacket. Now showing off his vest, neat white shirt, and colorful bowtie, Seren looked around to find a place to put his jacket.

Nervously, the hybrid entered the room in rags. Look, he wanted to be in character, okay? Which, he supposed was a bad decision, as the rags were cold and he wondered why in the world he thought playing a homeless character was cool. It wasn't. He was cold, looked stupid, and on top of it all, he was coming down with a cold.
Bleh.
Rubbing his arms, he diverted his gaze from the two other geist-like people. Don't look at it. Don't. Oh s**t, was he making a face? s**t, check your face.... No, it was okay. His face was fine, okay. Cool.

Ren entered the Auditorium and scowled it was much too bright for him. Now he remembered why he detested the Academy all those years ago. However a murder mystery was much to good to pass up. She wasn't so much antisocial as she was sensitive. She had five eyes, all of which had perfect vision, also enlarged ears which made sounds amplified. It could be a headache sometimes to keep track. Which made him always look quite grumpy. (OCC: Ren uses both he and she pronouns when speaking about herself. She also Responds to both. So My posts may go in and out of she and he. More than likely will be playing a male character but won't be mad about being called she.)

Lizbet was ready for this. They'd had help making a form-fitting dress for the occasion, carefully making it out of a nice, violet satin , and then even found a lovely fur coat at the thirft store that they'd had their friend help tweak so it looked less like a giant sack made of pelts. Two hours spent primping had left their face looking both heavily-made-up and somewhat stressed– the effect had them looking far, far older than the young university student actually was.
Walking into the auditorium by popping both auditorium doors open at once, letting the noise draw peoples' eyes to her in a very subtle show as she started to take on the mantle of the character she'd been assigned. (OOC: Lizbet is an actor, gamer and LARPer! While they use 'OOC' they/them pronouns, their IC-'IC' pronouns (when they are playing a role) will always conform to the role they're playing. As Lizbet's been given a female role, while in the context of the game and when referring to their in-character character, 'she' is the pronoun to use! If anyone knows her, they'll know that Liz would be cross at being called 'they' when they're acting. c;)

Snii Vye was excited about this event, wagging his tail a bit as he tried to get into character. He even had managed to get a friend to let him borrow a few familiars for the event, something that was helping him get into character quite a bit. This was exciting! He had never done something like this, but was super psyched for being a part of it. Maybe he would be able to make a few friends out of character from it? Perhaps, but who knows?! Anyhow, he was ready and couldn't wait to start. How would things turn out for this mysterious party? He started to fiddle with his tie as he continued to try to get into character, wearing a formal suit that matched his green and yellow color scheme of his body. This was it. This was it before he would finally start playing his part.

Veruca swept into the room just after the doors Lizbet had popped open has swung closed. She was decked out in an elaborate gothic gown in a pale purple colour. Her hair was swept up into a messy chignon, adorned with sparkling pins. She batted her lashes, and adjusted a very opulet faux-fur shrug around her shoulders. ... It was a little chilly!
Stepping into the room, she surveyed her fellow guests, and concentrated on her character. She couldn't help but notice Snii Vye, in his perfectly co-ordinated suit. She looked him up and down, and shot him a sizzling smile.

Snii Vye fixed up his tie as the announcement was being made that he was going to be entering the stage to welcome everyone to the event any moment. Three Spectrefoxes stood by his side as the announcement was started, a sigh starting to help calm his nerves. Despite being the head man, he was still slightly afraid of talking in public. Of course he had to overcome that being the CEO, but it still took a lot out of him whenever he did talk to the public. Stepping out on the stage, he gave a wave to everyone when his cue came, the Spectrefoxes following along by his side ", Hello everyone!" He walked up to the microphone with a wave of his hand to the audience, his familiars sitting around him and waiting for him to give his speech ", Thank you friends, family, and supporters for coming to tonight's charity ball! I am beyond honored for all the years I have had with many of you in helping bring homes to familiars in need of one. As much as I would like to continue being the CEO here for this non-profit organization, I feel it is time to pass it on to someone new. Later on tonight I will be announcing who it will be but for now let's enjoy the time we have left together before the big change! Once again thank you, and enjoy!"With that he gave one last wave and walked off the stage, his Spectrefoxes following after him to the dressing room for some privacy before he would join in the mingling of friends, family, patrons, and other guests.

Fridtjof fiddled with the buttons on his blazer and yet again felt glad that he'd been able to find suitable clothing at the thrift shop. He didn't have anything near suitable for the party, and it had sounded like a blast! He'd been practicing too, and as he got to the doors of the party he tried to drop into character. He slipped inside and kept to the walls, bringing up a hand to pat at his hair and make sure it was slicked back into a neat style rather than the messy disarray it usually was. He paused to look around, spotted Snii Vye, and his eyes lit up. He edged through the crowd to reach the stage, not making eye contact and murmuring polite, if quiet, disclaimers if he happened to brush against anyone. He made it to the stage right as Snii Vye finished his speech and stepped down. "There you are ol' chap! Lovely evening, simply lovely. I was delighted to receive an invitation to the party. Terribly sorry to hear you'll be stepping down soon, terribly sorry indeed. It's hard to think of the company going on without you. Have you given thoughts to your successor? Surely someone who's been with the company and working closely alongside you would be best to carry on with future endeavors, wouldn't you agree?" Fritjof said all this in the convivial tones of a friend, not really troubling to keep his voice down. Honestly he was hardly aware of anyone else in the room, so troubled and anxious was he to know who would be heading the company next. After all he'd given many years of his life in service to Wagging Tails Spectrefox Rescue, didn't he deserve something for all those years? (( Anyone who knows Freddy knows he doesn't ever use his full name. However, to feel more in character, he's using his full name because it's more "proper". Anyone who uses his nickname might be treated like they're being impolite, depending on who addresses him XD ))

Arachnne had her eyes on Snii Vye she wanted that position she wanted it a great deal. She smiled and waited for Luno to arrive. She believed using them was the key to her rise in the company she wanted a better position in the company. Arachnne wanted more then just being a little intern in the organization. She would flirt her way to the top if she had to. She slyly glared at Veruca who was smiling at Snii Vye she would take her chance to move up in power and cuddle up to Snii Vye if she got the chance. Arachnne was having some much fun getting into character thinking about her plans and motives as the character she was playing.

Luno looked sharp, dressed in a pinstripe flat black suit with a white folded handkerchief tucked in his front pocket. He adjusted his watch and sauntered in, a little late but what was a little late? After all, being son of the CEO afforded you some luxuries. Fashionably late had to be one as well, right?
As soon as he was in, he scanned the crowd. His father had just given the little spiel about stepping down, something most in the company already knew about. There was his darling, voluptuous girlfriend Arachnne, dressed in red with heels that could kill. Instead of immediately going to her, he kept looking for his mother...
There she was! Luno decided to approach his mother first. She looked positively dashing, but then again she could have been dressed in rags and the hallowed hybrid would have seen her as nothing but the best thing ever.
"Mother! You made it safely? I'm so glad to see you here. Can I get you anything?" While Luno spoke, his eyes traveled and spotted Fridtjof beside his father... Ah, too bad his old mentor wasn't so keen on him. Perhaps a little buttering up would be in store tonight. Arachnne might just be the oil he needed to get those old wheels greased.
