She was bored...

Her siblings and she had been parked in the same spot for weeks and their mother seemed to have no intention of leaving. Apparently, this was the 'ideal' spot to raise a family and as a consequence they hadn't left this area. Suffice it to say that after a week of exploring, the little cub had seen everything and she was beginning to despair at what she could possibly do to keep herself entertained. It wasn't as if she had anyone else to play with except her siblings and while she loved them, sometimes she just wanted something a little different. You know, something new.

Boredom did have its benefits though; it inspired creativity where there often was none, and as the day had rolled on and the young cub had stared at the sky she had been struck with sudden inspiration. It had come in the form of her paws, the little bracelets shining brightly upon her fur. Now she and her siblings all happened to have these particular markings, they were all truly lovely, but what if she could supply them with even more? Heck, what if she could give her mother one as well?

Struck by the sudden idea, the cub had rolled back on to her stomach and bounded off towards the river's edge to inspect it for materials. It wasn't long before she found some of potential, tugging the reeds away from the edge, and collecting a variety of small stones that she could use as beads...

It had been a surprisingly heavy burden for him to bare, one that he definitely hadn't been ready for. He'd seen a lot of things since he'd begun his campaign and for some reason, it had been the skeletal lion that stuck with him. It was a stark reminder of what the scourge could do if they didn't manage to kill you quickly. Somehow they had destroyed him, he was a shadow of his former self based on the descriptions his father had provided him with, and according to Solomon he had regressed even further.

One could only imagine how far he had left to go before he was completely gone.

Nevertheless his father and Solomon had left with the skeletal lion in tow and he could only help that the serene shores of the Bahari would bring him comfort. Tethys had faith in his father that protections could be secured for the ill lion, but whether or not that would be enough remained to be seen. For the time being though it was out of his paws and so the Captain returned to his own conflict. Having had his epiphany they were already on the move again, this time actively moving away from the light and back towards the much darker territories.

It was going to be a long walk, but at least he would still be able to take his daily wanders to mull over events and gain a small measure of information.

On this occasion, it seemed that small measure of information was literal though - so distracted had he been that he all but stepped on the tiny cub as she wrestled with her little project...

"Ow!"

It hadn't really hurt, but it was an immediate reaction to the pressure he applied to her paws. As her world darkened she finally turned her gaze upwards to come nose to paw with the very tall lion. He was a bizarre looking thing, with strange markings on his face, but he didn't seem to be dangerous. In anything he seemed to be so incredibly spaced out that he wasn't aware of the world around him? Alternatively he could simply have been blind and given she had just had a bath he couldn't smell her!

...Food for thought; maybe it was in her best interests to stay dirty to avoid this going forward. Her mother might not appreciate the stench but at least others would know where she was.

"You gotta watch where you're going you big dummy," she quickly began to push her wares out from under his paws, just in case the giant took anymore steps forward. He'd only squished one of her little bracelets at least, the necklace she had been working on was largely intact, but she'd sooner not take anymore chances. Especially when she actually preferred the necklace - she wanted to wear that one, the bracelet had just been an experiment. It had been successful and therefore she had elected to work on something bigger and more complicated.

Alas, she wouldn't be able to gift that bracelet to anyone either.

"You keep walking around without looking at what's in front of you and you're going to get hurt some day," she warned and wiggled her paw. "Step on somethin' that really hurts." she finished. She didn't say it, but one day he might get his foot chomped and he'd only have himself to blame.

Nevertheless, now that she was safe and out from under his paws, she went back to her work, 'carefully' weaving the little stones into the tiniest little cage so that they would rattle when worn...

What in the...?

Tethys looked down abruptly to find himself staring at what could only have been described as the tiniest cub ever. Whatever she was, or whoever she was, she was a scrawny little thing. Granted, this could very well be her normal size and he wouldn't have known, all he knew was that she wasn't a lion. Consequently his understanding of 'normal' size was a touch limited, even then, he'd always been a bigger than average male anyway.

Regardless, she certainly had a sass about her that probably would have made his own sister proud. When this little thing got older she probably wouldn't take any prisoners, but for the time being she seemed harmless, and also seemed to have thoroughly dismissed him in favour of whatever she happened to be working on. She was right though, if he didn't watch where he was going he was probably going to end up getting his a** beat (again) and he'd only have himself to blame... Hadn't he been warned about this and drilled endlessly already?

Gideon would be disappointed.

Nevertheless he would have to chastise himself later, now he was more interested in whatever she was working on. It was familiar in a sense, she seemed to be weaving something which he had had the pleasure of failing at himself, but her delicate paws were working with much finer materials and on a much smaller scale. He soon found himself lowering to the ground to inspect her work more closely, lifting a brow as he examined the little stones inside the 'cage' she had constructed.

"My apologies," he murmured and shook his head. "What on earth are you doing?" he asked curiously, a question that was met with a proud smile as she looped the reed around her neck very briefly and then gave it a little jingle. Curiously, the tiny stones didn't seem to escape, still held in the confines of their enclosure.

...Now there was an idea...
