She had made good time tonight, veering widely through the outskirts of downtown Destiny City and tracing her way through some of its suburbs. It wasn't often that she patrolled this far from the city, but found it was just as likely to be hit by Chaos activity as the more densely-populated metropolis. Rooftops were more difficult to traverse here, and she didn't want to make too much noise on top of it. Instead, Kallichore took to wide fences when she could, and the street itself when necessary.

Who knew how many sleeping Chaos agents and senshi were in these houses? How many parents took care of teenagers who kill other teenagers?

It was impossible to say. She could never know.

Instead, the eternal senshi stopped on the street, keeping low to the ground so as not to disturb the post-dinner family activities of the neighborhood. Some homes had glaringly open windows without curtains or blinds drawn. How often did they see powered, costumed kids running around outside (aside from Halloween?) Kallichore felt out of place, but youma didn't discriminate when they hunted. Families were in danger anywhere.

A pair of brick-encased mailboxes made for a good place to stop and rest. She knelt on the ground, leaning against the cool stonework for a breather.

There was a long walk between the school that Ann taught at and her apartment building. Often times she'd come home late and found that her eldest daughter had made dinner and then went to bed. Her reason for lateness wasn't the walk, however, it was more of the little bit of hunting she did before she entered the building.

Every night Ann tried to do her little rounds, picking up her barbed-wire wrapped bat from behind a few trash cans before following her route around the neighborhood. So far, she WAS able to destroy a few of the creatures known as 'youma', and even more often she found herself able to talk to some of the powered kids that came about her way every now and then. The old nurse truly felt sorry for these kids, having to go about and fight a war that the adults couldn't really seem to take on. Hell, she barely had much more she could do besides offer water and snacks, maybe a bit of first aid when she came across them. Still, she was out here, and she was trying to do something for the soldiers who kept her hometown atleast decently safe.

To her surprise, there was one now, kneeling behind a mailbox as if tired... Was she alright? Cautiously, Ann approached her, relaxing once she realized her uniform was white, not black or dark colored. White was good, from what she had been told.

"Excuse me, miss... You're one of Senshi, right? Are you feeling okay, dear? Do you need some water, or some aid? I have a few bottles in my bag, if you'd like. Maybe an orange or some other snack?"

IS OKAY POODLES DONCHU WORRY

It wasn't often that civilians stopped to talk. More often than not, Kallichore had left the scene without even introducing herself to them. Many were more afraid of her than the youma she sought to destroy. She couldn't blame them, really - she did look a mess, and the nightly news wasn't exactly kind to senshi.

Kallichore stood when addressed and dusted herself off. "Oh, I'm fine, but thank you for your concern." She tried fixing up her hair a little, which was damp from sweat. While senshi had increased physical capabilities including speed and stamina, they still had their limitations. "I would like some water, though, if you don't mind."

The eternal paused for a moment, pondering. "Truthfully, I'm surprised you approached me. I should be asking you if you're alright. I haven't felt any yo-- monsters, in the vicinity. Do other people like myself patrol here often?" She adjusted her unruly sleeves for a moment, trying to look as presentable as her fuku would even allow.

"I am Sailor Kallichore. If there is anything I can help you with, by all means..." The senshi probably seemed a bit awkward to Ann, as if she didn't expect or prepare for civilian conversation.

"Of course dear, here." Ann reached into the bag on her hip and pulled out a chilled water bottle, handing it over to the girl who rose to her feet.

"You senshi really should take better care of yourselves. I know it's a war and all, but that doesn't mean neglecting yourself." She couldn't help but gently push a bit of a lecture onto the girl who seemed a bit more concerned about her tidiness than she should be. Ann didn't mind, not at all. When mentioned that she was surprised by her approach, the mother of three just grinned, tapping the head of her bat against the ground.

"Every so often they come by. A few know me pretty well by now, I think, since I'm out here so often." Her smile widened in pride at her own work, even though she wasn't a true fighter, nor could she do much by the way of youma. If something was too big or too vicious, she knew better than to approach it.

"Now don't you worry about me, deary, I am more than okay right now. I know they are called youma, and I do my best to keep the tiny ones at bay around here. Atleast until the cavalry like you and the knights appear. I'm in no need of any help, just trying to do what I can for all you young ones out here fighting the fight we normal folks can't do."

blaugh

The senshi gratefully took the water bottle and had a few drinks before replying. "...I'm more used to people being afraid of us rather than approaching and being friendly. If you don't mind, what made you decide to become an ally to the senshi and knights? Usually, the media portrays us as costumed terrorists..."

What gave them that impression, Kallichore could only guess. Perhaps magical powers simply scared the people, or the Negaverse had taken control of the news. Or both. That thought was scary to say the least.

"Yes, they are called youma. I'm glad you haven't been attacked by any larger ones. Do they typically come out this far into the neighborhoods? Usually they're more concentrated in the city." Kallichore had a theory that youma are attracted to more dense concentrations of people, but it was nothing more than a theory.

She was, regardless, quite impressed with Ann's barbed wire bat. There was something to be said about a citizen willing to hit the streets without magical powers. "Have you seen many agents or other senshi who look like me, but wear black? If you do, please stay very far away from them. They're very dangerous."

"Pfft, people are always going to be afraid of what they don't know. The media has been lying for as long as I remember, so why would I believe what they are saying now? All I know is that people are dying, and there are monsters about, and those in white fight the monsters. How can they be bad if they are willing to protect us? And besides... I think I know more than a few people who may be hiding secrets, and I know they are good people so... I want to keep hoping that they are." Ann found a proper place to sit, ontop of a ledge that sloped down partially against the wall, and neatly sat down, crossing her legs at the ankle and laying the bat across her knees. As much of a temper she often had, in the end, she was still a lady.

A solemn nod was given at the mention of the youma again. "It's strange... It's almost as if they are lured this way these days. I don't know if they sense it or not, but more people are filtering into this neighborhood. Cheap housing and what not given some of the corporate expansion projects going on. Even if they can't keep us safe, the government certainly doesn't want is living in rubble." She remebered not too long ago nearly an entire building was destroyed, vanished in just an instant... They were quick to rebuild in other places though.

"So far, I have not, and for that, I think I'm lucky. My son came home after they attacked a train station a year or so back, and he told me in detail what went down... He lost an eye to that, but still remains as.... Passionate. As he had been before. Still, those people in Black.. The Negaverse, I believe... How anyone can see them as good is baffling."

Sorry about the wait!

The notion that youma were being steadily drawn to outlying, residential neighborhoods was chilling. Kallichore sighed deeply, crossing her arms and looking down at the ground. "...if youma are becoming more frequent out here, then we'll step up our patrols. I don't know if you know much about senshi like myself, but if we have wings on our back like this," the senshi turned and gestured to the small of her back, where a pair of white wings sat like a bow. "This is the highest rank we can achieve. Conversely..."

This information would be valuable to any citizen who believed in the senshi, she thought. Knowing who to avoid would be a lifesaver in the long run. "Those who wear black, they may have black wings. Please avoid them whenever possible. Black wings are a bad omen."

Ann's story about her son losing an eye made Kallichore visibly cringe in sympathy. "I'm very sorry about your son. I hope he's alright. It's a shame that the Negaverse sees fit to attack the citizens so openly like that... they were citizens once, without powers, just like we were."

Nephthys may need to know about this issue as well. It could be excellent training for the super senshi.

"I appreciate you doing that for us plain folk, sweetie, but like I said, don't over work yourself. You should take care of yourself too." As she said that, she did manage to take notes of what she said mentally. It wasn't hard to remember, just the concept of black and white. What was right and what was wrong. She didn't have much fear about it, not for herself anyway. Her fear always came in the form of worrying for others, and it seemed like a general little think about most of the Rhodes family. Never fear for yourself. Fear for another.

Though, at the mention of her son, she just shook her head slowly.

"Don't mind him... He's a bit of a troublemaker, but I'm sure he's alright... It really is a shame, isn't it? Humans have always turned on one another but this... This is just ridiculous..." Sighing, she stood up, brushing off her skirt again.

"If you ever run into someone with a nasty attitude but otherwise good intentions, and too much use of the word '********', please treat them kindly. It may be my son, and I'm sure he could use more concerned friends like you, Miss."

Kallichore seemed puzzled by Ann, not because she was a civilian putting herself in harm's way, but because she called herself plain. The senshi shook her head and spoke quietly. "No, not plain. The senshi and knights... even the officers of the Negaverse, we were all just like you. Just like your son. We all had hopes and dreams and aspirations that fit within the fabric of normal life. I don't think of you as plain, but as something precious. Something worth protecting."

She gazed down the street, perhaps at something Ann couldn't see. "...perhaps it's just me, but I find it important to remember, despite any powers we may have been granted, that we came from families with mothers like you, with sons like yours."

With a sigh, Kallichore absently began to fix her hair. "...I'm sorry, I'm reminiscing too much tonight. As for what I can do for you, I'll increase my patrolling in these outlying areas, especially if more youma are appearing here. We have to do everything we can to protect you where the police cannot." With one bun fixed up to satisfaction, Kallichore moved onto one of the others. "Ann, if you don't mind my asking, is there something that leads you to believe your son may now be involved in the war?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 14, 2017 11:31 am

"That's a comforting thought, thank you." Maybe she was just a late bloomer when it came to the powered life. Maybe just a really, REALLY late bloomer, and one day she would have powers like Kallichore or the gentle little knight she had met before, and could actually join in the fighting to protect her home. That would be ideal, atleast. "Do not forget you are precious as well. And you should still have dreams and Aspirations. It hardly seems fair I could see mine manifest but the youth of the city has such worries to care about. Mothers, fathers... Siblings, we all have them, maybe they aren't the best, but I'm sure there is someone like me out there that worries for you. Try not to make them worry too much, because if they are old like me, you never know if they'll try to run after you with a broom or a bat to help."

Ann's smile was gentle in response to Kallichore's words and he reached out, giving her shoulder a small squeeze. "Please don't work yourself too hard. My words may mean little in that sense, but think of it this way. Now you have another mama out there worrying for you."

"Hrm? My son... Well, he's always coming home beat up. I mean, he used to scrap alot when he was younger, but these days, it's much more often, and he seems so bitter about it. And he keeps secrets, leaving and coming back when He thinks I'm not looking... I used to attribute it to just being a teenager going through hormones and what not, but... Before he used to fight with us, argue over stupid little things and slam his door. There's nothing like that anymore, just a look of determination and a bubbling anger behind his golden eye. I just don't know what else it could be."

The senshi listened quietly as Ann did what she likely did best - be a mother. Without a motherly influence in her own life, Kallichore felt particularly touched by this gesture. The last woman she looked up to was Ares, and that resulted in three corrupted royals and an entire Court centered around them. Mirrors became potential portals to allow Dark Mirror senshi to jump from place to place without repercussions.

She shook her head. That was years ago.

"Yes, you're right." She placed a gloved hand over Ann's in a gesture of thanks. It meant a great deal that citizens were willing to go above and beyond like this woman was. "I'll just do what I can. There is no use in running myself ragged. I can't patrol if I push too often."

She took in what little information the woman had on her son's behavior and made mental note of it. "...unfortunately, there may not be any way for me to find out whether your son is involved in the war or not. Perhaps he is, perhaps he isn't. When we power up into this form, our identity becomes shrouded. Even if I knew his name and his face, his magic would protect his identity from everyone - even you. However..." The senshi turned to Ann and gave her a solemn nod. "...I'll do what I can and will be on the lookout for him, if at all possible."

When the girl responded to her touch, Ann gave a smile to her, happy that she wasn't rejected in her mothering. After nearly twenty years of it, it was near impossible to get rid of that instinct, even if the kid wasn't her own.

"Thank you, I appreciate it if you did." She had known already about the magic that kept secret identities, and wondered if she had, in fact, already ran into her son before. After a moment, she smiled again and nodded.

"I have a daughter about your age too, so... How can I not worry for you dear? You kids put way too much on yourselves... If you need anything, I'll be around here as well, so you can stop by when you'd like for a break. Water, snacks, just even a bit of talking. I'd hate for this to be the last time I get to see you. Just think of all the worry."

I hope this is an okay wrap!

Kallichore did her best to dispel Ann's worries, at least about her own safety. "I promise you, even though I can't know the future, I will do everything in my power not to disappear. You have my solemn promise." She gave a decisive nod to the older woman, hoping that helped to alleviate some anxiety. She didn't know what it was like to be a mother, but she thought Ann was doing a fine job of it nonetheless.

"I'll be patrolling around this area for a few weeks. Please keep yourself safe, and I'll do what I can to limit any property damage. While my magic doesn't damage objects, that doesn't mean other people's doesn't..."

With a sigh, the eternal senshi stretched for a few moments. "I should probably keep moving. I'm sensing something a few blocks away and should check it out." Kallichore took a few steps away from the civilian and looked over her shoulder. "Ann... please keep yourself safe, too."

With a great burst of speed, the senshi crossed the road and leaped onto the nearest roof, determined to take the shortest path to the energy signature she suspected was a youma.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:11 pm

"Ahh, thank you, Miss Kallichore, you ease this old woman's heart." Just like her son, she had a particularly cheeky grin when she tried. It was still a sincere smile. That was, until the Eternal senshi mentioned the youma. How outstanding that must be, to see the enemy so far away. And frightening.

"Don't lose home, dear. As much as the so called terrorists are feared, there are just as many who wish you the best of luck and trust what you do." A small wave was offered before the young woman left. She would do right by here, and leave back to her home for the night. No need to make Kallichore worry for her.

Maybe the next time she was around, she'd be sure to pack some meat pies or something. People couldn't survive on water alone. Not when they when they were bounding across rooftops.
