Dinner with Cordy had lasted longer than he’d expected and they’d both decided that patrolling that night was out of the question. They were both too tired and he had a meeting with a freelance client in the morning that he really needed to get sleep for. He didn’t quite know how much sleep he was going to get given what Cordy had told him but he needed to try.
His keys were dropped onto the table by the door, shoes left in the hall, and he headed back to his room to drop face first onto his bed.
“Why did he have to come back.” He groaned. He was still just getting used to the idea of Arin being Rik and what the other man had done. He knew, at least a bit, of what Arin was trying to do and how hard it was for him to remake his life.
And now Cordy had told him she’d run into Lysander. She hadn’t said anything about Lysander and Rik or what that might do to Arin and he hoped she was banking on the fact that the two weren’t likely to run into each other. Not that he didn’t think Ari deserved some more karma but it was a little mean even for him to want the other man to have to deal with his ex.
If they even really were exes. That was probably a giant mess that he doubted any of them wanted to get into.
He sighed against the sheets, turning his head so he didn’t suffocate and grunting softly as he felt Sumi hop up onto the bed and settle on his back. He didn’t know Lysander all that well but he knew he and Rik had been dating and from what he’d gathered years ago they’d been close. Lysander was really the only person Rik had talked about like he was a friend. It probably meant that he was going to get put on ‘keep them apart’ detail somehow too.
If that was even possible. He shifted after a bit, displacing Sumi and pulling off his clothes so he could change into something to sleep in. Apologizing to the feline for moving him he threw himself into a quick shower and brushed his teeth. He made sure Sumi could get in and out of his room if he wanted to leave in the middle of the night before changing into his pj’s. Once he was changed he dropped back into bed and sighed, Sumi curling up next to his side. “Just for five minutes I’d like things to not be a mess and go smoothly.”
That wouldn’t happen, he knew it, but he could always ask for it and hope. Even if it was just for a few days he’d appreciate nothing strange happening, no people from the past popping up where they shouldn’t be, and things to just work out and be normal. He reached down to run his fingers though Sumi’s fur, using that to relax himself, as he tried to drift off to sleep.
