Lounging around the playground at the park was a double-edged sword, as far as Bob was concerned.
For one, there were kids at the park. Really, that was the entire purpose of the playground - he wasn't stupid - but with kids came both terror and opportunity. If he picked the wrong kid to visit, it could end up with fur-pulling or tail-tugging. If he picked the worst kid, it might result in a spat between his claws and the kid's overpriced Stride Rite light-up sneaker. But if he found the right children... that could mean cuddles, pets and access to all of their juice boxes and snacks. Who could resist a big fluffy cat, right?
His tail flopped over the bench he was currently stretched across, mindful of the Mom with three little tots heading to the adjacent picnic table. The bag around her shoulder held potential for snacks and judging by the age of her kiddos, there might be some goldfish or string cheese awaiting beyond the pale blue Vera Wang print.
Hmmmm....

Giulia loved the playground. She loved being able to spend time out and about making friends, and Nanny had let her come and play with some of the kids from school, and the mom was going to drop her off after they were done playing, since they were staying at the City House, and for now she was having fun. she had been sleeping incredibly well since she had found out her Seal Prince was watching her dreams, even with Jada gone and them in a different house. Her Prince was the best Guardian, she loved him! Now was lunch time, though, and Giulia had elected to go sit by herself rather than with everyone else. The tables were smooshy together, and one of the boys smelled like onions. It had to be one of the boys, because the girls all smelled good. And the boys kept giggling about it. They were so weird. And probably had cooties. Unlike her Seal Prince. She had been watching the kitty for a while, admiring the large, fluffy body that didn't look too terribly much like a stray, and had such pretty markings. And as another woman headed towards the table, Giulia clucked her tongue, calling out to the kitty. "Here kitty kitty~" she cooed. "Kitty kitty pretty kitty."

Ears perked as he heard the high pitched little voice calling out for him. Or at least, he presumed it was for him - he didn't smell or sense any other felines in the area, so it was pretty safe to say he was the only kitty kitty pretty kitty around to answer the call.
His head turned to gaze at the caller, falling on a short, blonde haired child with rainbow colored fingernails, all of them wagging in his direction.
She was beckoning him, which was a positive sign. She also wasn't a boy - less chance of having his tail yanked or fur pulled. Girls tended to be more pampering than the fellas were - maybe it was their mothering nature, their instinctive need to care for small creatures and the like. Being twenty-two pounds, he wasn't exactly small in comparison to the little girl, but he was still shorter than she was, at least.
Letting off a long yawn, he slowly rose from the bench and stretched out his front legs and then his back ones. Hopping off the bench, he widened his eyes as he approached the little girl, searching in his peripheral vision for any possible snacks to nibble on.
"Mrow?"

Giulia was almost 4 feet tall and 43 pounds- she was long and light for her age, but in both cases she was larger than the monster-size cat that strolled towards her in response to her call, and Giulia giggled, her overpriced Stride Rite light-up sneakers swinging as her feet kicked back and forth. "Pretty kitty," she cooed, reaching out for him with tiny little girl hands. "Gorgeous kitty? Handsome kitty? Are you a boy kitty or a girl kitty?" Her clothes smelled like feline, though she didn't know it; Castor practically rolled on Giulia and Aidan in the mornings, probably missing his human. Giulia pursed her lips, tugging out a bag from behind her- almost all of her sandwich was in there, and some chips, and a sweet little treat. The sandwich was ham, bacon, cheddar, and tomato... with mayo. Giulia did not like mayonnaise, today. It wasn't as gross as shrimp but... "Maybe kitty will lick the mayo off and I can eat the rest," she mused aloud. "Mayo looks like spit, but pretty kitty may not mind." she lifted the bread off, holding out the mayo-covered carbs, the meat and cheese still tucked in close to her narrow body.

He was wary of the shoes the moment he saw them - and the fact they were swinging - but he ambled up towards the girl all the same. She was calling him pet names and smelled distinctly like cat, clear signs that she probably had a furball back at home who was equally pampered as he was about to be.
As the swinging paused and the child began rummaging through a bag, he decided to make his first move. Letting off another innocent-sounding meow, his front paws hopped up to press against one of her legs, as though he was also investigating the contents of the sack alongside her. Bob watched as she pulled out the sandwich and peeled it open, inspecting the contents.
His own nose wrinkled as she spoke of the spit-like condiment, but he wasn't turned off from the gracious offering. Eyes still trained on the bigger goal - some of that delicious looking meat that was coming dangerously close to smearing against the front of her outfit - he bent down and began to obediently lap up the smear of white from off the bread.
It was just about as exciting as eating mayo straight off the concrete, so the Guardian decided to take a risk and nipped part of the bread's corner off, just to see what she would do in response.

He was such a pretty kitty! Giulia giggled as he strolled closer, taking in his bright fur and his pretty face marks as he came closer and then he propped one big paw up on her tiny knee, and Giulia decided she was in love. Mama had a kitty, Giulia wanted one too! But oh- oh, her puppy. If she collected this kitty (who had to have a home, he was too pretty not to, didn't all pretty kitties have homes?) then Jada may not let her hace a puppy! And that would be terrible. As he began to lick at the bread, she giggled again, peals of happy laughter. her free hand dropped, the meat and cheese settling into her small lap as she leaned over to offer the kitty the other half of the bread. "You don't have to sneak a bite, silly kitty," she told it happily. "I'll feed you. Just save some for me." She wiggled tiny fingers. "Come sit on my lap, kitty. We'll talk and I'll share my sandwich." teeny fingers wiggled, poking at his nose with childish clumsiness, trying to tickle under his chin. "Do you have a name, kitty? a good-looking kitty like you. I'm Giulia. I like chips. Do you like chips? Aidan doesn't like chips. Castor doesn't like chips either- he's mama's cat. She likes chips. Not the french fry chips, American chips. There is an important distinction in chips."

After finishing his duty of cleansing the bread of mayo, his eyes lit up as he watched the remains of the sandwich topple onto her outfit. Not wasting any time, Bob leaned over and gently tugged the slices of meat and cheese from off the child's lap. They dangled from his mouth, the cat gentle enough to keep the food from jerking around as he slowly rose from the ground and onto the girl's legs. He was massive, probably weighing half of her size, but he didn't care that they looked awkward or that his eyes now met at the same level of hers.
"Mrrrrrrow."
It was hard to talk with food in his mouth, so he deposited the meat and cheese into the girl's waiting hand as he sat there, staring at her all the while perched on top of her lap.
Leaning over, he gingerly took a bite of the meat - a bit warm, after staying in a bag for who knows how many hours - but he wasn't going to complain. He absentmindedly listened to the little girl chatter as he tilted his head, giving the appearance that he listening to her babble about her mother and some people named Castor and Aidan. Siblings, maybe?

This was the best kitty, and Giulia sighed dreamily watching his cute little nose and his precious pink tongue and his fluffy warm body. And then he lifted the cheese, climbing into her lap, and Giulia's loud cry of delight rang even through her own ears. "You're perfect," she told him shrilly, pressing her face at his, stub-nosed and adoring. He brought the sandwich back up to her, the meat and cheese that had almost hit the ground, and he gave it back, and Giulia cooed in admiration. "Good kitty. Kind kitty. Gentle kitty. Precious kitty. Almost as good as a seal, kitty." she grabbed at the meat and cheese, pulling off a shred, and offering it to him, before taking a roughly equal-sized bite for herself. "Where did you come from, kitty?" she asked at last, her ceaseless babble... well, unceasing. "Do you have a mommy or daddy around here? Or are you a homeless kitty? Do you need a home? You're very pretty." Because she had only told him a hundred times, surely he needed to be told more that he was a lovely kitty. "I have a big home, and we already have one kitty, I bet the two of you would be great friends. You can hunt together, and play together, and lay on Jada's lap together. Because you wouldn't both fit on mine, though you can try if you want to."

He almost choked on the shred of meat as she suddenly jerked forward with a giddy shriek, planting her face directly across from his. He managed to recover, thankfully, just in time to be offered another bite.
Graciously accepting the piece (who was he, to turn down free food even if it came from a kindergartner?), he chewed on it while eyes watched her mouth move up and down, up and down, up and down. She was like the Energizer Bunny with blonde curls, amped up with more energy than he'd seen in humans twice her size.
As the mention of home, however, his ears perked. It was one thing to accept food from the little humans, but Bob knew the math when it came to kids wanting to bring him home. A kid meant an adult's decision would get involved, which also meant that if he were to be brought into a home as a house pet, a trip to the vet would be in order. And vet trips equated to trouble.
No thanks, he was good without a rectal exam for the next nine lifetimes.
He gave her a grateful purr, rubbing his head against the hand that continued to stroke him. As much as he loved pampering, he also loved not being cavity searched. Leaning forward, he gave her nose a gentle lick before the big, fluffy cat turned around and hopped away from the child's lap.

Kitty was a gem, and Giulia sighed dreamily as he accepted the meat with a regality that clearly came from being a good kitty. " Best kitty," she whispered with childish affection. "Will you be my friend? I want a kitty friend." She could pretend it was a kitty prince or kitty princess, to play with her and her Seal Prince. Bright ears perked, and Giulia's face lit with excitement at the recognition. "You'll get a warm bed," she cajoled, "And I'll love you and smooch you and you can cuddle Jada if you have to. She's old though, like, over 20. She'll probably die soon. But Aidan and I are young and we'll take care of you kitty, don't worry. You can eat fancy food like Castor and lick my plate and-" And kitty wasn't interested, but he licked her nose, and Giulia giggled wildly, following him off the bench and down to the ground. "Where are you going kitty? Did you want to play? Are you hungry more? You didn't even have any chips!" Kitty wasn't going away, was he? "You didn't even tell me your name!" she gave a strangled meow that was clearly born of not understanding what her own cat was trying to tell her.

The kid let out her own pitiful version of a meow and Bob's cold heart ached.
C'mon kid, don't make this harder than it has to be, he thought to himself as he turned to stare down the little blonde mini-human. She promised chips - salty, wonderful, crisp chips - but he warily looked around for any potential adult intervention that might corroborate with her intentions.
The coast looking clear, he paused and turned around completely, plopping his butt on the sidewalk as he stared up at her, mimicking her meow with his own, drawn-out "Mrowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww."
Maybe, maybe he could stay for a couple chips after all.

She giggled. "Mreeeeooowww," she parroted back to him joyfully, and her pretty little top was made a mess as she stretched out on her belly on the concrete, wriggling her nose at the cat, and holding out her tiny hands, one still full of half-forgotten meat. "Do you play patty-cake? I like patty-cake. I still haven't figured out a name for you." she sighed, "I don't even know if you are a boy cat or a girl cat. You're a fuzzy-butt," she confirmed happily, beaming at him. Oh no, she had left the chips on the bench! Giulia pushed up, meat squishing into the concrete, completely wasted, now; she grabbed at the chips, tugging the last of her food over to her, peering at it in consideration. "Do you like Jello, kitty?"

He watched the child crawl onto the dirty sidewalk, tickled at the sight. Most adults wouldn't even bother kneeling towards him, at the risk of getting their pants and outfits dirtied at the attempt. Small children didn't care about trivial things like clothing - they lived for the happy moments, regardless of the cost.
He meowed in agreement at being called a fuzzy-butt, fully prepared to sit on his haunches and prove just how good at patty-cake that he was. Instead, the small girl practically leapt up to retrieve the remains of her bag, green eyes falling down upon the squished meat upon the sidewalk.
Bingo.
Moving over, he quickly bent down and gobbled up the remains of the smushed sandwich meat. There were bits of dirt and sweat embedded into the slimy lunch meat, but that just made things more flavorful, in Bob's opinion.
He peeked up at her question, more intrigued with the bag of chips in her hand than the wobbly, extra-jiggly jello she was discussing the merits of. Jello was okay, but salty snacks went best with forgotten sandwich meat, as far as he was concerned.

His meows were the most adorable thing, and when she turned back around, her forgotten sandwich meat was disappearing into his kitty mouth. Ahh, he looked so happy and pleased. Giulia couldn't even bring herself to be angry. Opening the bag of chips and the jello, and gripping a plastic spoon tightly in one hand, she pulled out a corn chip, holding it out for his purr-view. Hehehe, Giulia was so clever. Kitty-related puns. "Here kitty, have a chip." It waggled hypnotically left to right, the child not even thinking about the difficulties in capturing such a prize. "Or the jello. Give me two meows if you want jello. Meow-meow~"

His head instinctively moved as her hand did, following after the salty, crunchy, beautiful potato chip as green eyes remained trained on the pale crisp. She was giving him a choice, telling him to vocalize one way or another with his choice.
Well, that was an easy one.
Raising his paw, he rested it on her moving hand in an attempts to stop her wobbly wavering, Turning his face towards her, he looked up with a serious, deadpanned expression as he let out a lonely, soulful single, "Meow."
Stilling her hand, he leaned forward and gently plucked the salty chip from within her tiny grasp, pulling it back so that he could bite down and break off a bite's worth from the chip while the remainder toppled to the ground at his feet.
