Yuki walked along the grove of walnut trees that grew wild along a babbling, smooth flowing river. With the snow melted for spring's arrival, the waters bubbled with live as they ran towards where ever they might end. Along side her the graceful steps of her cherished companion Yoshiko echoed behind her. Her wings folded against her back, resting as she walked the faint game trail through the trees. It would be a long time before the walnuts these trees would produce would be ready. It wasn't like walking along the orchards of the Emperor's palace, but that was far off and she would never see those orchards and gardens again. The knowledge was almost bittersweet to her but she knew why. She didn't begrudge the choice that had lead her to this path nor would she ever regret her time there with him even if she hadn't loved him.
A small noise drew her attention from her thoughts. Yoshiko was looking at her expectantly. "Hmm? My apologies Yoshiko." She offered the little pronghorn beside her a rather sheepish look. "My mind was, not as calm as usual." She stopped a moment, enjoying the sun on her back as she stood in a small clearing. Now was not a time to think of the past for sure, now was a time to think about the present and what the future could hold for her.
Prancing around till she was in front of the mare she cleared her throat. "You're thoughts must be very far away to not have heard me Lady Yuki." She beamed up at the taller figure. "I know this will be quite an adjustment and that you'll need time to find your path. But I was saying it was a lovely day and that we should look to see if we can find some place suitable to eat our breakfast. The trees while the shade is nice provide little comfort when you're worried about predators." She dipped her head almost in a bow to the mare. She'd been a gift from the Emperor and told to watch over the mare and treat her with kindness and respect. This was his final order of her before he sent the two of them into these unknown lands.
She gave a small frown as she listened to her little companion. "I understand." She dipped her head as she spoke. She'd been thinking so much she'd missed what the other had said at first. It wasn't like her to need to have things repeated to her." Giving a frown, she nodded. "We can move to a more open area. Should be one further ahead from this small clearing. We should be able to find a lush abundance of grass there.." She opened her wings and folded them once more before starting to walk once more. Her pace was easy yet swift enough to get the move on. "Come along Yoshiko." She said over her shoulder as she walked ahead.
As she heard the prancing of little hooves behind her, she quickened her pace to a trot. She wove around trees following the path she'd seen from the air a few times. It shouldn't be too far ahead from where they'd been if she remembered right. At least she hoped she was right. How many times had she gotten the two of them lost since their arrival to these new lands? The truth was that she'd likely been leading them astray dozens of times now. Was this just another one of those times? She sure hoped not.
