Caliban stretched a bit as he waited in the meeting spot that had been proposed. It was in the park in a more secluded spot but with plenty of room to spar in. Word had gotten around through the network that there was a senshi that needed some training and while Caliban may have not been the best choice for fighting, he had volunteered, trying to be helpful at least.

Lately he had been trying to get to know more of his fellow senshi as he knew that he couldn't be doing all of this on his own. Even though he had fought a bit by himself, he had never won against an agent yet and had started to realize that he needed a few friends, or at least a few acquaintances within the White Moon faction.

He was hoping that this sparring session may lead to that, however, there was always the possibility that it didn't, and if that was the case, at least he would know another senshi by name so that he could recognize them if he ever saw them later.

I'll try to do a better start next time. gonk

It had been a long road that led to Midas coming to terms with her rather lacking combat skills. At first she hadn’t cared because she was too busy with college and then Pythia had left and she’d been given no reason to care. Then Ryan happened and her life became a whirlwind, keeping her on her toes but, undoubtedly also reminding her what purpose she held in this world after all.

Ryan’s life had already been touched by so much misfortune, she couldn’t let the city consume him too.

“Are you Caliban?”

The senshi that came into her view as she rounded the bend in the trail seemed like what had been described to her - white and grey, fortunate enough to wear pants. With no reason to fear another Order senshi, she approached him without waiting for an answer, so that they were standing in the same gleaming lamp light. Both hands went to her hips as she stopped, causing the veils attached at her wrists to hang at her sides.

“I’m Midas, Senshi of Greed.”

Caliban was still stretching a bit when he heard someone address him and turned around to face who it was, as he had sensed a white moon senshi aura nearby. However, it wasn't until a couple of seconds later that the senshi actually came within his view and introduced herself. He felt a wave of nervousness come over him because he knew he wasn't an expert or anything at fighting, but he hopes to be helpful nonetheless.

He nodded in response to her question. "Yes, It's good to meet you Midas." He said, holding his hand out in greeting. Her outfit was interesting at least. "I hope I can be of help to you tonight."

Midas tilted her head at him as he identified himself, trailing her gaze along his uniform and assessing what she thought might be his strengths and weaknesses. What made him capable?

"I hope you can do, doll."

The corners of her lips quirked as she dropped both hands and took a few steps closer, balancing on her unconventional heels. She really wondered who designed the outfits, sometimes. She looked great but fighting seemed impractical, even if she did have some innate ability to navigate her own uniform.

"So where do we start?"

Caliban thought about it for a bit. What should we start with? At least she was willing to try doing some sparring with him, even if he didn't turn out to be the best teacher. "I'm not sure how far along you are so I will just start with the basics. Let's see if you can throw a punch correctly." He had to read it up online himself on how to form a fist correctly at least, but he had punched some sand bags at least so he figured he knew how to do it correctly.

And if she could punch him the right way, then he could practice his defensive moves. Though really he figured that he should join some sort of training gym or something to do all of this correctly. Unfortunately he wasn't getting as much training as he had wanted with other senshi.

The Greed Senshi's instincts were to ask him if he was serious, though she kept the words bottled up around a disbelieving smirk. She wasn't here to judge, she was here to learn. Everyone had something to teach and even if he seemed a little less seasoned than some of the other knights she had seen, well, that wasn't his fault.

Plus she really did suck at physical one-on-one.

"Alright, alright."

Her body shifted into what she considered her best fighting pose at his request and her arm rose, letting it come level with her shoulder. After a moment of measuring whether or not he was ready, she moved forward and struck, putting her strength into one good blow.

She seemed to be pretty skeptical of him and he wasn't surprised. But it did help to know the basics at least. If you made a fist wrong you could end up breaking your fingers. But at least she seemed willing to listen to him as she thrust her fist out at him.

He nodded at her. "I'm sorry, but it's always good to know if you're getting the basics correct. I'd rather be safer than sorry, right?"

He had gotten into his own fighting position, with both of his hands at the ready for any of her attacks. He managed to block her attack by moving one of his arms to hit the side of her arm, throwing off the aim, and following it with a punch of his own.

Midas felt her teeth grit as he managed to deflect her attack, unable to hide her annoyance with the rebound. It made no sense to get upset at him, though, and she knew that on a deeper level - if he was teaching her to fight enemies then she obviously had to understand that enemies would not let her throw a punch just to save her pride.

She took a quick double-step backward, out of range of him, so that she could assess the way he was holding himself. Her position was still defensive, even farther away.

“You’re right,” she added, tersely. “This is important. My magic is entirely defensive - I can make the enemy weaker but if I can’t fight then there’s no point in my doing so.”

Her fingers flexed, uncurled, and then tightened back into fists. This time she aimed with a charge - dodging left, as if she might try to strike at a blind spot, before she suddenly leaped to the right on deft feet, swinging her aim below his ribcage so that he would have to drop an arm to stop her fist (at least, she thought so).

Caliban was quite happy that she had dodged his attack, that meant she had some fighting experience. Perhaps he didn't have to teach her anything at all. However, he saw her readying herself and decided to wait to see what she did. That was when, quite to his surprise, that she charged at his left, and he was about to dodge right, when she corrected herself and sent a punch out after she had leapt to the right.

His eyes were wise when he dodged to the left, trying to avoid her attack as much as possible, and using his position now that he was a bit behind her, pushed her shoulder with one of her hands a bit to throw her off balance if he could. Although he had thrown a punch himself, he wasn't quite read to completely knock her off her feet, which might really hurt. He didn't want the training session to be short because of him.

Felyn
I'll let Caliban get hit with her next attack if that's okay.

The look that sprung to Midas’ face could only be described as annoyance the moment she realized he was going to step outside the range of her attack. Having already begun a motion that was meant to stop with impact, she was off balance, and his small shove caused her to falter and nearly trip.

s**t, she chastised herself, mentally. Letting someone get behind her was bad form all around - she didn’t have to be a fighter to know the danger in that position. With getting her opponent in her sights again as her primary objective, she corrected and used her momentum to spin back to face him. It took a half second to right herself but she was steady on her feet when she launched her second attack; her left hand made a quick jab for his chest and her right followed, aimed higher at his chin line with an amateur’s attempt at grace. She was clumsy but still trying to stay one step ahead.

It seemed that what Caliban had done worked, as he was able to trip her up a bit. Luckily she didn't fall over. However, she was quite quick, and before he realized it, she had already corrected herself and launched two attacks at him with her fists. He moved one of his hands, trying to block the fist that was heading straight towards his chin, however, he was unable to block the second one and gave a grunt when it hit him squarely in the chest.

With his other hand he redirected her right hand by using his arm to move hers by using back of his left arm hit the inside of hers. However, he couldn't block the second attack and so he had been unable to dodge it. However, although it hurt, he knew that he couldn't let up on his temporary student, and so he moved to the left and swung out his leg, hoping to sweep her off her feet.

        It worked.

As much as Midas hated to admit it, Zoe might’ve been a first-class soldier in social wars but she herself was an outright disaster in actual combat. She had been so pleased with her ability to land a punch that she didn’t anticipate his quick movements and the leg that swept out to kick her off of her feet. In an instant she felt herself falling, her gut wrenching with the realization, and only managed to catch herself on one ********,” she hissed through her teeth as she collapsed onto her arm, removing the pressure she had awkwardly put on her hand. She had sprained her ankle once jumping off stage and this felt terribly, awfully the same. The senshi had enough sense to know that she might’ve saved herself a concussion but this, undoubtedly, was the end of their sparring.

“Okay, okay, time. Check mate. Whatever.” Her attitude was directly correlated to her pain but she didn’t seem to be blaming him for the mistake as sat there, coddling her wrist on the pavement - she knew her own faults even if she was really, really annoyed by his success.
