Who: Laurel and LuLu
When: Midafternoon during the weekend
Where: A local park
Weather: Pleasantly sunny

The cold weather had subsided. However, the forecast foretold that it would get chilly again on Monday. Nevertheless, everyone could get a brief taste of the Spring to come this weekend. LuLu, like many others, was taking an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful day. She chose to spend her time at the park.

Currently, she was following one of the numerous walking paths that twined throughout the large park. The rabbit slowly floated along while soaking up the sunshine and scenery.

This path overlooked a pet park where many people took their dogs to run off extra energy. She couldn't help but be distracted by the owners playing with their excited pups.

Laurel had no idea what was going on. It suddenly wasn't cold enough to wear his sweaters, but still chilly enough to borrow one of his dad's old sweat jackets. He supposed that he could call it an improvement, it was certainly better than the shivering cold from before, but still. Why had the air gotten warmer? What was spring, and why were people talking about it being early? The cheetah couldn't wrap his head around it, no matter how many times his father tried to explain it. Weather changed, snow melted, sometimes it was colder one day and warmer the next, it was all so foreign and strange to him. Did the world not know how to make up it's mind? Did everything need a name and a time for when it happened? It didn't make sense.

He hovered along the path slowly at first, his hands busy with his phone, and looked across the right side of the park. It seemed like there were a lot of people here today, maybe they were trying to get outside while it was warm? That seemed like the most logical answer. He nodded to himself and put his phone away, before hovering across the field.

Then, he noticed the pet park.

"LOOK AT ALL THESE PUPPIES!" He exclaimed, his hands moving to grasp the side of his face. "There must be like... A million-billion of them! THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!"

He hovered right up to the gate and grasped it, his eyes darting this way and that as he watched the dogs play. Who knew there were so many different kinds of dogs! Short ones, big ones, fluffy ones, wrinkly ones, how was he supposed to pet them all in one go? Could he pet them all in one go? Was he ready for that big of a job? He paused, just to consider how long it would take, and decided to continue to watch.

LuLu had also found herself hovering closer and closer to the fence blocking off the dog park front the rest of the area. Her attention was held by a runty pekinese whose tongue was bobbing out the side of its mouth as it ran circles around a great dane. Well, it was more of a shimmy shake than a real run.

She could not help but snort softly at the scene. "Too cute." She began to float back the way she came, but was stopped in her tracks as she bumped into another onlooker. "Ah! Sorry." She spun around to apologize face to face. However, she was greeted by the familiar hovering shape of a raevan. Though she had not met this particular boy before. She continued, "Hello, are you new?"

Of course Laurel hadn't been paying any attention to his surroundings as he stared, rather intently, at the dogs playing before him. Therefore, when LuLu bumped into him and apologized, the redhead looked to her as though she'd come straight out of nowhere. However, his surprised expression quickly turned to that of excitement again, and he hovered right up to her.

"OH MY GOSH, hi!" He exclaimed, waving his hands about. "I didn't know there was another Raevan here! It's super nice to meet you!"

He paused a moment, suddenly captivated by her feathers and ears, and quickly pulled the hat he was wearing off of his head.

"You have ears and feathers, just like me!" He said, pointing to his head and grinning. "What's your name? I'm Laurel, and I-uh... I was born in November! I'm still getting used to all this stuff."

I'm apologizing to LuLu right now because he's just a barrel of questions. |D

LuLu was taken aback as the energetic little cheetah was suddenly front and center in her line of vision. The rabbit reached out to gently place her hands on either of Laurel's shoulders in an effort to ground the boy before he rocketed to the moon. "It is a pleasure. Laaaureeel~" The sigel's voice rung slowly over each syllable in his name as she tested it out.

She released her hold on his shoulders and floated back to give him a brief curtsy. "I am LuLu." The frei's comment made her reach up to run a finger along one of the blue and white feathers she had decided to wear in her hair today. "I see. We are similar." She then glanced at the gray plumage twined around the cheetah's wings. She assumed his soul was some form of cat based on the fluffy little ears atop his red hair. It certainly seemed like she was looking into some sort of distorted mirror when she gazed at the boy. They were similar but also...

"Unique. You are still unique."
She smiled at Laurel. "Just go at your pace. You have plenty of time to learn"

Just as LuLu was about to start her next sentence, she felt a tug at her ribbon. With a small yelp, she looked down to see a puppy busying itself with nibbling at the green fabric attached to her waist. It was unusual to see a dog roaming without a leash outside of the fence. The sigel gave a quick sweep of the park in an attempt to spot the owner. However, no one else was nearby. LuLu picked up the pup and peaked at the tag on his collar. "Spot."

LuLu's effort to keep Laurel from rocketing to space proved fortuitous, but only because having his shoulders held in such a manner was both calming and perplexing. He still wasn't too keen on how to greet others, espescially other Raevans, and any new reaction he got was met with some degree of curiosity. Part of him wanted to copy her and place his hands on her shoulders, just to see if he could understand why, but her words quickly distracted him.

"Unique." He repeated, the word rolling off his tongue quite easily. "And similar. I like that."

Did he understand what those words meant? Not exactly, but given the context of the situation, he assumed they were good things. He echoed her smile.

"Aw! They're so cute!" He exclaimed, leaning toward Spot with a delighted purr. "... I guess they're called Spot because they have spots, right? I have some too, but it's too cold for me to show them."

Spot greeted Laurel with a playful yip. The pup's tail wagged frantically as he sought the frei out for some more attention. LuLu could not help but giggle as she brought the puppy closer. "You can show them off when summer returns. It will be here before you know it."

The puppy continued to shift around the rabbit's arms. He was a bundle of energy not unlike Laurel. "I wonder if his owner is near. We should ask around in the park." The sigel glanced past the fence and at all the other dogs running about. "I bet they are looking for him in there." She began to float toward the dog park's entrance.

Summer? Laurel tilted his head. Yet another word he didn't understand. He'd have to place it on his mental list of questions for later because, right now, there was a puppy in front of him that was demanding his undivided attention. He beamed and reached out to pet him.

"Good boy! You're so cute!" He chirped, before looking to LuLu with wide eyes. Spot was lost? That wasn't good! He'd never been lost before himself, but his father always told him that getting lost was a very bad thing. He gave Spot a sad look and followed LuLu.

"I hope they're not too far away! I'd be scared if I ever lost my dad." He said, his gaze moving to survey the park. "Do you think Spot knows what his owner looks like? Maybe he could show us where they are!"

The puppy's flopping and wiggling was making him difficult to hold onto. Admitting defeat, LuLu plopped Spot on the ground and watched as he ran circles around them. She was getting dizzy watching him spring from one side of her vision to the other. "I hope he knows. Being lost is no fun."

The rabbit locked eyes with the pup, and LuLu's tone changed to one that was more firm. "Spot! Find your owner." Lu thought she had been rather successful at putting on her commanding voice. However, the dog responded with a disinterested huff and scampered in the direction of some trees. "Hey!" She floated after him and shot a glance back to the cheetah. "We have to keep up Laurel."

Laurel nodded. Yeah, being lost couldn't be any fun. Poor Spot had to be so afraid! ... Though he did look pretty occupied by running in circles right now. He arched an eyebrow at that.

"Keep up? OH!" He squeaked, following LuLu. Where was Spot running off to? He had to stay put until his owner came to get him! The cheetah gave a bit off a huff and raced to catch up with him.

"I think I can try and catch him, LuLu!" He exclaimed, hovering lower to the ground. "We don't want him to get more lost!"

Their chase was rather short lived as the puppy became easily sidetracked by a large branch that had fallen off one of the trees. Spot did not miss a beat as he picked the branch up in his mouth. It was nearly as big as he was so the pup looked pretty silly dragging it along. However, through enormous willpower, Spot delivered the branch to the two raevans and released a triumphant yap.

LuLu reached down to give Spot a victory pat, and she took a second to snap off a smaller stick from the branch. "Here we go." She held the stick out to Laurel. "Have you played fetch before?"

The instant that he saw Spot with the stick, Laurel started to laugh. He looked so silly with that big stick, didn't he know it was too big for him to carry around? He'd hurt his mouth doing that! The cheetah held his hand over his mouth to stifle his giggles.

"Fetch? Yeah!" Laurel replied, moving to take the stick. "I've got a dog back home that really loves fetch! She'll dive into ice cold water just to bring back a ball! It's really funny."

But this wasn't Izzie he was playing with, this was a little itty bitty puppy! Surely he couldn't go as far or as fast as Izzie could. He turned the stick over in his hands, grinned, and flung it forward.

"Go get it, Spot!" He exclaimed.

LuLu giggled at Laurel. "Hopefully you do not go in the water with her."

The rabbit watched as the puppy took off in the direction of the stick. The frei had only tossed it a few feet away, but the puppy was brimming with energy and determined to give them a show. She released a soft 'oooh' of amazement as Spot scampered under a larger dog who had managed to get in the way of his prize.

Spot had retrieved the stick and then returned to their side. His little paws were tapping the ground in an excited rhythm as he waited for the stick to be tossed again.

LuLu touched the cheetah's shoulder, "Don't hold back this time!"

Laurel made a face. Of course he didn't go into the water with Izzie! It was way too cold, he'd freeze solid! He was looking forward to trying to swim in the summer, though, when Oliver said it would be warm enough.

He watched Spot barrel after the stick with awe and beamed. Okay, so Spot had exceeded his expectations! Now it was time to up the game! He snatched the stick off the ground and winked at LuLu. He wasn't planning on holding back!

The cheetah aimed, spun his arm in a circle, and threw the stick as far away as he could. However, not being aware of his own strength, the stick ended up sailing straight across the field and off into the distance where it couldn't be seen. Stunned, he looked sheepishly to LuLu.

"... Maybe that was too far." He said, blinking twice.

As Laurel flung the stick with all his might, LuLu gave a whoop of encouragement. However, her cheers died off as the stick sailed much further than either of them had anticipated. The thing was practically out of sight now!

Of course, the excited puppy went for it at full sprint. LuLu called after him, "Spot!" The puppy did not heed her cry though and continued on his path to the stick.

The rabbit glanced back at Laurel and gave him a pat on the back. Her lips curled into a timid smile. "You threw it very well. Maybe a little too well." She pointed in the direction the puppy had taken off in. "I heard the stick land in some bushes that way."

----

As they approached the far side of the field, LuLu was thankful she could just make out the outline of Spot scampering around in the distance. They had not lost him! However, she soon another figure was drawing near him, too.

The puppy and the other figure became clearer as the distance between them shortened. With only few meters separating them, the rabbit could see both Spot and a young girl. The girl kneeled down and clasped a leash onto Spot's collar. She wore a relieved expression on her face. Lu called out the the girl, "Are you Spot's owner?"
