Daphne really did like going to Romano’s, she did. Honestly. Well, except for the sleeping situation…and the school work, but the uniforms were cute. Honestly, anything that allowed her to wear purple was a great thing, and since the full uniform was pretty much a paradise of purple…well.
Of course she shouldn’t think of the school on such a…petty basis. This was going to help her later on in life, the way other schools wouldn’t. This school had structure and…discipline and…a really, really nice library, which was where she was headed now.
She was eighteen now, and she was almost done with her adventures in schooling but…that didn’t stop the teachers here from piling on the work. When she got to the library, she found herself a nice corner, and piled up all of the books that she figured she would need, and started researching everything she could possibly think of.
An hour later, Daphne let her head fall on one of the open books with a grunt of defeat.
All of the words were blending together. Why did the people here insist on using books for research. Why couldn’t they just get all of their information from the internet like normal schools?

Penelope's favorite part about working for the school was the fact that her hours were adjustable and she could sit for hours getting paid to do homework or, if she were feeling like testing her lucky, she would work on the many erotic romance scripts she had in the wings.
Plus, she liked looking at the promising future recruits that she wanted to sink her nails into if given the opportunity.
Or the type of delicious drama she could stir up with rumors between students or faculty. That was her favorite, twisting the perception of things.
Today was one of the days where she was working on a manuscript, perfectly painted nails flying across her keyboard with an easy, single-minded focus as she worked on her story. Traffic in the library had been slow and she was largely alone when Daphne stepped through the doors.
Looking up, Penelope pushed up her glasses, which were mostly for show but nice when she was working on a computer screen for long periods of time, and smiled.
"Can I help you find anything Miss...?"

Daphne almost jumped at the voice and looked over, smacking herself in the face with one of her pigtails. “Oh, no…I mean, I’m okay. Just working on an assignment. I like books and all but you’d think the teachers here would let us…you know, use the internet for research? How are you even supposed to find something that’s relevant? Who even uses books anymore, like…seriously.”
She looked at the blonde library assistant and sighed. “So…jeeze, you can’t be much older than me…what made you get a job in a school library? There can’t be much room for growth can there?”
Wow that was a rude question…and right after she had just dissed the very root of the lady’s job. “Ah. I guess I should say that books aren’t bad, but who…and why would you throw someone raised in nothing but technology into a world of books that just…”
The teen blew out a long breath. “Hi. I’m Daphne. I’m a rude b***h, I guess. Sorry about that. I think this is a side effect of this project. I'm not normally like this.”

A coy smile formed on Penelope's lips as she observed the teenager. "Because there might come a time when digital information is inaccessible," she answered easily, shrugging her shoulders when she pushed her glasses up her nose. Carefully, she pushed her chair back, legs crossed over each other beneath her skirt that barely dusted the tops of her knees.
"It's what I want to do." Another shrug from the blonde as she uncrossed her legs and opted to stand. "Librarians, when certified with their masters, get paid a pretty penny and I'm allowed to work on other things when I don't have to tend to the books or organizational system." Not once did her gaze drift away from the student as she carefully shut her laptop.
"It's fine," she said, waving a hand dismissively at Daphne's comment.
"My name is Penelope Rey, I can help you. Maybe even teach you a thing or two?" There was the barest hint of something flirty and wicked.

“Well I mean…if it gets to the point that digital information is inaccessible…I just…” She shrugged. “I don’t know. Books are so fragile. Water destroys them, fire destroys them, people destroy them…I don’t know. I mean I guess I do know, I’m lazy.”
When it came to research she was, at least. As the librarian…Ms. Rey talked about just why she was working in a library, Daphne nodded, seeming thoughtful.
“That seems like a pretty good job honestly. To be frank, and I do apologize if I’m coming off as rude…but I sort of always thought that libraries were about to go extinct. Like, to people really ever go to real ones…like, outside of schools? It seems like such a waste of time to me…but, hey. If you want to help me with this project, I can’t say no.”
This librarian…was really, really pretty, and for some reason, the look in her eyes made the hair on the back of Daphne’s neck stand up…in mostly a good way but…
But she was starting to get the feeling talking bad about the library and books wouldn’t really be the best of ideas.
“So…where should we start…Ms. Rey…?”

Penelope didn't seem to mind that Daphne was not a fan of books, she was a child of the digital era just like the blonde was but her parents had taught her a love of books and she would uphold it, in some manner. "Many things are fragile, Daphne," she countered, coming around the counter to stand beside her.
She reached a gentle hand, pressed fingers against the girl's elbow, when she smiled. "There's a quite a bit for libraries to offer, even if you aren't familiar with it." There was that sharper point to her grin, her touch shifting into more of a caress.
Pen's eyes watched Daphne carefully to see how she reacted to the shift.
"I would be happy to help you," she replied, hand sliding down the girl's arm to grasp at her hand. "Just follow me."

Daphne didn’t seem to notice at first, but then realization dawned on her, and she idly wondered if this is why so many teachers went to jail for hitting on their students…of course, most of those teachers were old and nasty, and she was…sure she was still a student, but she would be graduating in a few…well a few weeks really, if you wanted to look at it like that.
And she was of age…
“Are you hitting on me, Ms. Rey…?” Her hand closed around the blondes without much of a thought, the caress from a moment ago sending goosebumps up and down her skin.
“Because, I think that might be kind of illegal…but, I mean, if it’s a secret that the library wants to offer…you’re the expert, aren’t you? Let’s go.”
She wasn’t quite sure what she was going to be getting herself into…but anything was better than the assignment that she was supposed to be working on.

Penelope blinked, surprise blossoming across her face at the accusation. "Daphne," she replied in a way that spoke of disbelief. She was drawing her hand back, calculatedly, wondering if the girl would stop her - and she did. "That's quite a bold thing to say," she said carefully, gaze drifting across the girl's face. "I'm just offering you a helping hand."
Here, the assistant librarian was walking a careful line because Daphne was right, the playful flirt was illegal, but the age gap between them was minimal and -
Daphne didn't look like the type to mind really and while Penelope was certain the school was doing an excellent job priming her for the Negaverse, she wanted a personal hand in this girl. She liked the forwardness, the want for something dangerous. All things that were usable and in the wake of Kari, Penelope needed something that was easy and controllable.
"If you just follow me," she said, hint of sultriness in her voice, stepping back, "I can show you what the library has to offer, if you're willing to ask for it."

“It’s only illegal until May, Ms. Rey, don’t you worry. I might not turn you in, if I decide I like you enough.” Daphne went so far as to wink, taking a step forward as Penny took on backwards. “Now, show me all of these secrets that the library has to offer, I believe I’m quite curious now.”
This was breaking so many rules, and it was so much more exciting than doing a report on dead people that nobody cared about. Seriously.
She half wondered what she was going to learn now…and she was excited, her grip on Ms. Rey’s hand tightening as she continued to try to close the gap between the two of them.
“I do hope you’ll be showing me something worthwhile. If that's the case, I'll follow you anywhere, I suppose.”

Penelope's brow arched as she observed her nice, new toy, and she smiled tersely. "You're making a lot of assumptions, Daphne," she said in a stern, almost calculating way. Even if those assumptions were correct, Pen wasn't going to say that.
"I'm a little hurt," she said, seeming to wilt even though her fingers found their way between the spaces of Daphne's. "But I suppose I'm wiling to forgive if you're willing to learn a lesson or two." Hadn't the girl come for help and learning?
"Right this way," she hummed, turning on her heels and leading the girl off somewhere more private.
