There were some people in this world who just made life better. People like Alya, people who just made Whisler smile and really…really like.
There were some items in this world that made life better, and there were some colors in this world as well which made life…well. Perfect.
Purple, for instance. Purple was the most perfect color in the world. And when that color was worn by perfect people…like himself…well.
That just made it even more magical.
And when you added in the glowing…well. He might not like his transcendence…but it suited him. Sometimes. Aesthetically.
The Knight had been admiring himself, preening himself, if he were being honest, in a store window, enjoying how the streetlight above made him just glisten. He was so absorbed in his own…well. Everything, that it took quite a while for him to realize that there was the feeling of a senshi nearby, the feeling of an eternal.
Well, someone else could enjoy his company tonight, he decided. So, off he went, hopping onto the roof of the building and heading towards the aura, pausing when he saw just who it was. “Well well. If it isn’t the purple goddess herself. Good evening, Ida. You sure are as beautiful as ever.”

The woman he called beautiful came to a stop and against her control, her cheeks pinked. Of the people she might have thought she'd run into tonight, she had not anticipated the knight of Polaris.
It had been... so many months she couldn't even quite remember exactly when she had seen him last. A year? Two? It hadn't been long after he'd purified, if she remembered right, and she was pretty sure he had not had the glowing marks on his face that he had now.
"Whisler!" Ida said as she turned to him with a warm smile, the sweetness of his aura confirming what her eyes saw. "You're transcended now! Congratulations."
She had a ton of questions for him, starting with what had happened to bring about this happy situation. Another transcended was another free from chaos for good, and for a man who had escaped them once already, that was rather a good thing. She couldn't help feeling proud of him, even if she knew she had no right or claim to. She hadn't been the first, she hadn't engineered the process, but they shared something special now, a connection to their power that others just wouldn't be able to understand until they went through it themselves.
He was as flirty as ever though, she noted. That much hadn't changed. At least it didn't bother her as much as it had. He could find her pretty if he wanted, it wasn't something to be embarrassed about. (for the most part)
"You are still too kind. Trust me, I'm as mortal as any other woman. Are you patroling alone tonight?"

“Not anymore. That had been the plan, and then you walked up and plans changed. How have you been? It’s been far too long, Ida.” He winked and hopped off of the building to join her down on the ground. He took her hand before she could protest and kissed the back of it, being as gentlemanly as possible and grinning.
“You may be mortal as any other woman, but your beauty does surpass most of them, trust me. I would know.” It was good to see her. Good to see someone…who was so entrenched in the side of good…
It made him feel good.
“But really, what’s been going on with you, Ida? Why don’t you and I hang out more often? Going years between seeing you is kind of a bummer, especially since you do just grow more and more beautiful…perhaps with that logic, we should keep waiting between meetings, but if we do, you might be too beautiful to even stand! And of course, I know I grow more and more beautiful as well, you can’t deny that. And, ah you noticed the transcendence…yes that happened.”
It wasn’t something he really liked talking about, but…she had mentioned it, but hopefully that would end the talk of his new glowing affliction. Maybe.

There was something… just a little over the top in the way Whisler spoke, and the longer he spoke, the worse it became, till she was struggling to decide how she felt about it. He came closer and before she could offer a touch of hands, or even a hug, he had seized hers and kissed it, playing at the classy gentleman she was starting to suspect he wasn’t. If anything, it felt… disingenuous, and fake, which was… just a little upsetting.
She’d never asked to be fawned over… but surely he wasn’t making fun of her…
“You’re really... laying it on kind of thick?” She said as she reclaimed her hand, cradling it against her stomach with the other. “I appreciate the feeling, but you really don’t have to.”
An awkward atmosphere snapped into place with an almost audible click and Ida scrambled to find something to fill the space with. Anything, to distract from more flowery compliments she didn’t need.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been around… I’ve been off planet for a bit over half a year now. There was… an incident, and I was captured.” Her fingers fiddled with the white cloth over her stomach, using it to self-soothe. “I escaped, of course, but Alkaid held me, during that time. If you haven’t met her… she looks like a senshi, but covered in cracks, all over. She… reeks of chaos, and her hunger for energy is insatiable. It was why she wanted me in the first place.. How much, actually, do you know about your transcendence?”
Come to think of it… there was nothing to stop Alkaid from attempting to do to others what she had done to Ida. Their fight had freed her, but it had not erased the danger the ascended represented. Not exactly the best conversation between friends who hadn’t seen each other in a while… but important.

“Oh.” Whisler frowned slightly, shrugging after a moment. “Sorry, I guess...I…”
Well. That was two people who didn’t like him. That felt great. Super great. He reached a hand up and rubbed at one of the glowing marks on his face before shrugging again, though frowned when she said that she had been captured. “Are you okay? Half a year? Holy cow...no wonder you’re so jumpy…”
Maybe that’s why she wasn’t enjoying the affection...if she was missing so long...well. SHe’d have to get used to people contact again, wouldn’t she?
“Alkaid…? Never heard of her...She sounds like a regular piece of work though, I’ll make sure to steer clear, thanks, Ida...and uh...how much do I know? Not much, really. It just happened uh...at a pretty inopportune time, that’s all I really know about it. It’s...kind of a bother, if you want my honest opinion of it…”
He figured she’d take offense to this statement...but...well. She was already annoyed with him so what did that really matter, right?

He frowned and stumbled and immediately Ida felt bad for saying something… it had upset him, but she reminded herself that boundaries were a good thing to have. Friends respected boundaries.
“I’m okay, now.” She said, the tension easing out of her shoulders as the conversation became more serious minded and the flattery faded. Relief softened her voice, warming in her eyes. “I’ve spent a lot of time recovering.”
Jumpy. She was, wasn’t she? It wasn’t something she had really payed attention to, but it was true. Things made her uncomfortable that hadn’t before. At the same time… she felt stronger, after her ordeal. She’d survived, and that was something to be proud of.
A small smile curved over her mouth and she shrugged lightly as she reached out to claim his free hand on impulse. She held it gently, giving it a small squeeze.
“Its bothersome sometimes, like youma having a taste for us now, but… there are a lot of wonderful things about it too. I mostly wanted to warn you about her because… one of the things that makes us special now, is the ability to share energy with other people. It moves easier than it used to… and that also means we drain easier than before.” She pressed her lips together, a memory bubbling up of the sickening feeling of having her energy pulled from her, against her will, over and over again… every time she’d gained a little back, it had been leeched away…
It was not something she’d wish on anyone, and certainly not Whisler.
“Alkaid knows about it, so if you or anyone you know runs into her, you need to be careful. She’s weaker, to physical assault, so hitting her is the best way to fight her off.”

Whisler nodded and even gave a small smile when she took his hand, giving his own squeeze back, threading his fingers through hers seemingly out of habit. “So, if I see this Alkaid, hit her and run, hm? I think I can handle that.” The more she spoke about this, the less he liked the fact that he glowed. First it had been nothing more than a slight bother and an inconvenience, what with Ashanite breaking off…whatever it was they had…but now…
Now he was in danger because of it? Fantastic.
“Is there anything you need, Ida? Maybe I could make you dinner sometime? Six months away, you must need to catch up on all of the city gossip…not that I have any, but I do make some mean French toast if you’re ever in the mood for breakfast…for dinner. Dinner Breakfast…breakfast…dinner?”
He shrugged and gave another smile, trying to push aside his overwhelming misgivings and reassure her. “Just…I don’t know how you do it. If it had happened to me…I wouldn’t be walking around powered up like you are. I’d be taking a long break of most likely forever. You’re a heck of a lot stronger than me, Ida.”

His longer fingers slid between hers, offering a hold that felt more… intimate and Ida felt a flutter in her stomach. He was so much easier to like when he wasn’t pushing compliments on her. She liked him like this… quietly holding her hand. A little concentration and she opened herself, letting the energy of Ida pour through her and into him. He didn’t need it, really, but it felt good, sharing with someone… and he seemed to need some sort of reassurance, though she wasn’t sure why. Being more vulnerable in one way was just a trade off for having benefits in other areas, like the energy passing through their joined hands. “I don’t need anything, really, but its sweet of you to ask. I’ve just been trying to get back on my feet with everything, really. I wouldn’t say no to dinner though. Its nice not to cook for myself or eat alone.” She said. Her face softened then, her lashes lowering as shrugged gently. “I don’t think I’m all that strong. Its just… I can’t just stop. We have a duty, of sorts, or at least I do. I made a promise, swore on my planet, to protect it and this place, and the people here. And if I just… gave up, wouldn’t that mean Alkaid wins? She didn’t kill me, but if I stop fighting, the end is the same, isn’t it? She stole a year of my life and I refuse to give up any more of it. I don’t know if that makes me strong, just refusing to quit, but I feel very strongly about it. Everyone has to take their own paths, you know? So maybe its not the same for everyone as how it is for me.”

He was glad that she didn’t pull her hand away and smiled softly. “Well…I get that. So dinner it is. And…I understand you not wanting to stop, I’m not saying to just…give up forever, but you’ve been through more than most will ever have to deal with…so don’t you think that you deserve a little bit of a break? Ease yourself into a better mind frame before jumping back out into everything head first?”
Whisler grew quiet, his thumb gently brushing over the back of her hand as he thought of something useful to say. “I’m…I don’t know. I have nothing constructive to say, I have no idea what you’ve been through, or how you cope with your own trials…but I’m a guy who doesn’t really…I mean. I buckle under pressure, I think. I like relaxation…”
Suddenly a fantastic idea struck him and he grinned widely. “Speaking of relaxation, if you’d like, Ida. I’d love to have you up to my Wonder sometime. It’s fantastic. A hot spring, and I’ve been fixing it up a bit, you know making it more like home. Just in case I need some time away, but I have food, and there’s a bed up there, and it’s just…wonderful. If you’ll pardon the pun. We could go spend the weekend there sometime, if you’d like. I’ll make sure it’s as relaxing as a weekend can be for you.”

She looked down at their hands and smiled a small smile, the energy flowing freely between them.
"I've had enough resting, I think. It feels good to be back at it. Honestly. It helps me feel like myself again." She said.
His thumb brushed across her hand and it was warm and soft, almost like a caress. She told herself that wasn't how it meant it, but still, the feeling was there. His fumbling for words made her giggle and she smiled as he spoke about going to his wonder. It perked her interest, of course, going to other worlds always did, but...
A hot spring, food, a bed. Spend the weekend... just the two of them...
Ida felt her face heating up, his offering mixing with the gentle stroking of her hand and suddenly she felt... awkward and shy, unsure of herself and what exactly was happening between the two of them. Whisler was not like anyone else she had spent time with... she didn't know how to read him. It had never been like this with Alois, this shyness, or with Laney, who had been her friend before anything else.
But maybe it was all in her head and there was really nothing weird about it, and she was just over thinking it. It was perfectly normal to invite a friend to see your place, and he hadn't said anything that really meant anything...
Oof.
"I think I'd like that." Ida said, shaking herself out of her awkward thoughts and choosing to go with the message on the surface as she gave him what she hoped was a normal, totally-not-awkward smile. "I like see other people's planets and wonders. I don't know if I can take a whole... weekend, but, its nice of you to offer. Maybe sometime? I don't know."

Whisler nodded, drawing her hands up to his lips and kissing the back of each of them. “It’s a date then. We’ll have to figure out a good time. I’m sure you don’t want to go gallivanting anywhere far right now, and I completely understand but…I’ll send you a letter sometime. We can meet up again, and when we do, hopefully you’ll be back to your happy self and all of what happened will just be like a terrible bad dream.”
He knew it wouldn’t be. At least, it wouldn’t be if it had happened to him, something like that would haunt him for the rest of his life…but Ida seemed so much stronger than he was. So much more sure of herself.
She was something special, he could see that without having to look too hard at all.
“I should let you get back to your patrol, Ida. But…I’ll be in touch. I promise. I very much look forward to spending some time with you. If…if you need me for anything…” He paused, reaching into his subspace pocket and pulling out a note pad and pen, scribbling a number on it and handing it to Ida. “…I always keep paper with me, it makes it easy ever since I figured out how to send letters…I like to have the means to send them, now that I have the power to, you know? But, this is my phone number when I’m a civilian. My name’s Nick. Text me if you want.” He winked. “Be safe, Ida. I don’t want anything happening to you, okay?”

Ida accepted the note, the paper sliding between her fingers like a talisman to distract her from the lingering memory of his lips on her skin. He was just being... gallant, that was all. She'd already known he was more flirtatious than her usual friends. The number was a useful thing though, and accepted with gratitude.
"Ah, thanks! That's great. Here..." She said as she grabbed for his wrist, holding him still while she extracted the note pad from his grip. She flipped a page and scribbled down her own number in a hasty scrawl across the page. "This is my cellphone number, and my name is Orah. I also work at the hospital, if you ever need help or find someone who does. I'll do whatever I can to smooth things over for you. Sort of why I got into nursing work."
Flipping the pad shut, she handed it back and tried to ignore the roguish way he winked.
"I'll stay safe if you do." Ida said with a breeziness she wanted to feel as she wagged a finger at him, setting aside the questions and confusing feelings for the moment. "See you around, Whisler."
She turned to go with a wave of her fingers, taking off before he could draw her back with more embarrassing displays of affection. It seemed like something she needed to have a talk with Laney about, but then again...Orangeish Sherbert aaaaah i'm sorry this is so late ;w; fin?
