Goretti had not been in the area for a short while; he hadn't forgotten about Bob, but he couldn't bring himself to return, defeated or without some of Bob's requests. He'd been in the area once before while looking to find the cat again, with a bag full of tuna, a blanket and a jar of pure moonshine. He'd looked for the Mauvian for an hour the night before, but his search had been unsuccessful.

Tonight, he was hoping for something different.

It wasn't that he needed Bob anymore--not to grow out of being a chibi senshi, and not to get help reaching the rank of an Eternal. He'd managed to do both of those--but he still had a great desire to make sure the Mauvian was taken care of.

Bob had been polite and informative, and Goretti fancied them friends, despite the obvious difference in alignment.

Clutching the straps of his backpack as he walked, he stopped to see if he could feel anything on his radar. Cats were different than finding other Senshi, so after a moment of observation, he called out, "Bob? Are you out here? It's me, Goretti! I'm looking for you!"

One ear perked up as he heard the call, the Chaos Guardian's nose twitching as his head slowly rose from its napping position. He'd felt the inkling of the nearby power - Order, it was always Order these days, it seemed - and had decided that he was better off staying put than venturing out to explore the aura.

But...when that aura called out to him specifically....

Bob didn't know a Goretti, nor did he recognize the powerful being that was behind the voice. It sounded familiar, but felt nothing like he'd messed with before. Had one of his interactions with the little folk or the Goodie-goodie kitties gotten him into much bigger trouble? Could it possibly be a trap?

Curiosity getting the better of him, the ginger cat slid down from the tower of boxes he'd been using as his bed, his voice calling out from the alleyway, giving away his location.

"Y'know, if you looked a little bit harder in the alleyway, you'd find me."

Goretti turned towards the voice immediately; he recognized it well enough to know that he knew it, so he quickly trotted over. Almost immediately he felt the tingle of a Mauvian's energy signature and he smiled when his eyes settled on the cat.

"There you are! Hello! I've been looking for you."

He slid the backpack off of his shoulder and then paused for a second as he glanced around.

"You aren't staying here, are you? I hope not, this is not the cleanest alleyway I've seen. You deserve better. But I brought you presents--everything you asked for!"

As if to display, he unzipped his bag and showed the blanket and two cans of tuna. The jar of his special, pure moonshine was at the bottom of the bag, but he didn't want to unload everything right here.

"Where should I put them?"

Bob blinked.

When he'd heard the words I've been looking for you, the bell finally rung in his head. The little squirt - the one he'd sent off forever ago on an impossible mission - he was back! No doubt had he figured out the con of Bob's instructions and had come back to furiously chew him out ove---

Wait, what?

Standing before him was no longer a chibi senshi, but a norma---no, an eternal one. The aura was different than it had been before, like the little fella had sprouted his wings and done his own growing. Maybe that was the reason he hadn't recognized him sooner?

The state of the alleyway meant nothing to the Guardian, who instead chose to watch with narrowed eyes as the senshi dismounted his bike and opened his backpack. If he was grown now, there was no need for tricks, or for Bob's made-up half of the offer. So why had the kid come?

The blanket was first to appear, looking suitably warm and soft. The tuna that followed after wasn't the cheap, offbrand kind either. This kid had done his homework, clearly, but curiosity was getting the better of the Chaos Mauvian when it came to his requests. Goretti hadn't brought the impossible moonshine, as pure as the moon could make it.

Bob smirked, dropping off from his resting spot as he approached the much taller beast on two legs. Sitting at his feet, he looked up to the now extra-tall young man. "I'm not married to this part of town, no. Did you have a better place in mind, kiddo?"

I like how you apologize for taking ten days when I took like, ten years to respond to our last one.

You're A+ in my book, I don't know how you manage to juggle the number of plots you do; it's impressive! <33

"Hm? Oh, I don't know," Goretti said, flashing a smile. "I'm still supposed to stay in safe areas, but I'm sure there are some nicer alleyways than this one. But I wanted to make sure you had these."

Goretti moved over towards a few stacked cardboard boxes; it seemed like someone had only just laid them out earlier today so he figured they couldn't be that dirty.

"But, look!"

He set the tuna out--and the blanket next to it, and then pulled out the jar he'd filled at his wonder.

"I caught this! Pure moonshine!"

He turned so Bob could see it; the jar was filled with a strange, swirling fog. The mist seemed to sparkle--especially when it caught the light. It wasn't unlike a snowglobe; when Goretti shook it a little the mist swirled quickly in the jar but only a few seconds later it slowed into its same lazy swirl.

A grin was on his face; he was beaming, clearly thrilled with the find.

No.

No, it was impossible.

The kid had been grinning way too hard - Bob should have known something had been up. Nobody - nobody - smiled that wide unless something underhanded was going on. He should know... he practically wrote the book on underhanded tricks and cons as far as Mau went.

When the jar had come out of his bag, all he could do was stare. At first he thought it was a cheap gimmick, some water with glitter in it, spun around and sealed to protect its charade. He was determined to believe that it was a cheap craft modeled to look after his request, but the longer he stared at the swirling mist within the container, the deeper his confidence sank into the depths of his stomach.

"W-Where... did you get that?"

His cocky attitude had dissipated, replaced with both awe and feline curiosity.

Goretti was rocking on his heels, trying to keep his excitement bubbled inside. "On my homeworld, Goretti!"

He moved to hold the jar out. "Here, do you want to see it? Don't open it, though! I think it might just float away. But, I was just visiting my asteroid--at least, I think it's an asteroid--and there was this beautiful fog rolling in. And it just caught the moonlight in it! So I saw it and of course, the first thing I thought of was you. I hope this is okay! I couldn't get any more---I only had one jar--but I hope that if I go up, I can see it again! It was weird, though."

Goretti's lips pursed just slightly as he tried to think of how best to describe it. "It was really thick and hard to see through, and I couldn't really breathe in it. But I have no idea where it came from. It's pretty, though, so it can't be bad, right?"

He swirled the jar again and then held it out for Bob once more.

While Bob was a Mauvian, he was still a cat. Therefore, as the swirl continued to sparkle and glisten as the sunlight hit the jar, the furry feline couldn't help but approach the Order senshi, green eyes wide and intrigued by the beautiful mist trapped within the otherwise ordinary container. If it wasn't for the fact that his paws desperately wanted to bat at the passing twinkles, he might have felt a bit more ashamed at having his con backfire in his face - maybe.

Front paws rose as he lifted himself on his back haunches to get a better look at the mesmerizing spiral pattern. Tentatively, one paw lifted up to press against the cool surface of the jar, jellybean-like toe pads resting against the glass as the sparkles continued to glitter within.

This kid had gone through the trouble of traveling to his homeworld and fetching something so miraculous for Bob's trollish scavenger hunt?

Welp. If cats could sweat, Bob might have been wiping his brow at that point.

Eyes cut up briefly towards the Eternal Senshi before dropping back down to the jar. "You do realize that you've already beat me to the punch with the whole uh.... overcome the chibi-thing, right?"

Goretti didn't seem fazed. "What?" he asked, tilting one head to the side. "Oh. Well, that doesn't matter."

He shrugged, smile unwavering.

"I had fun--and I grew out of being a Chibi! Things must have happened the way they did for a reason. Maybe it took me so long so I could make sure I got you this? I mean--it was a long wait, and it was really frustrating, but...I don't really think I regret anything. And I'm excited to go back to my homeworld. I don't know if I would have thought this was as interesting as I did if I hadn't been thinking about you when it rolled in! Do you like it?"

He seemed excited--hopeful. Like he was waiting for confirmation that yes, this is perfect!

"I can get more if you want more. Maybe you can come up with me some time! Oh, you'd have to be careful, though. There is glue everywhere--and I bet that's a pain to clean out of your fur! I could carry you, though," he offered, ever eager to have an excuse to have a cat in his arms.

"This is perfect - I couldn't have asked for a better Moonshine." Eyes continued to watch the slow swirl in the jar, the Mauvian briefly wondering how in the world he would manage to lug this precious present back home with him. Maybe he could jerry-rig the blanket into a saddle, if he tried hard enough.

His thoughts were distracted, however, as the senshi presented an offer that perked the ginger puss's ears.

"You would... take me there?" The excitement was evident in his tone, the pitch growing as high as a kitten's. Bob had never been anywhere but on Earth - he knew it was possible for the senshi, but it had never crossed his mind that he too would one day have an opportunity to travel out into space. What curiosities waited for him out in the great beyond? What sparkles and jingles and eye-catching sights were twinkling on vast worlds, like the glue from Goretti's?

His eyes narrowed, suspicions re-aroused as his paw dropped from the jar, the cat returning to sit on his back haunches. If it were physically possible, he'd probably be crossing his front arms over his chest. "What's the catch, kiddo?"

Goretti paused; his lips pursed and he looked at Bob strangely for a moment. “Catch? I don’t know. Company? You said you were interested in Moonshine. And I found some. We’re friends, aren’t we?”

There was only curiosity in his voice; he knew that Bob wasn’t quite a normal cat, but it had never occurred to think of him as any sort of enemy. He was just different. And, sometimes, all different meant was ‘lonely’. Bob seemed like the sort of cat who had everything together, but Goretti still wasn’t entirely sure what to make of him. He didn’t think he was dangerous, and so far he’d really only just enjoyed the company the Mauvian provided. He’d only seen him twice, but Goretti might not have been so keen to go back and explore his asteroid if he hadn’t seen that beautiful wall of white fog—and immediately thought of Bob.

Besides—Bob hadn’t gotten the opportunity to make him stronger. Goretti was still certain there was much to be learned from him.

Bob was not accustomed to the innocence of youth.

Most anyone (or really, everyone) who offered something to the cat wanted something in return. A treat as a reward for a trick, a bauble or drink in return for a favor. Nobody wanted to give presents out of the simple goodness of their hearts - that myth was for Hallmark movies and children's stories.

...oh.

It was difficult, staring up at this tall kiddo, and remembering that he'd sprouted like a blade of grass since the last time the cat had seen him. He might look more like an adult, but his heart was still clearly a child's. A warm, trustworthy, gullible kiddo's ticker.

"Yeah, kid. I guess we are, aren't we?"

As if to emphasize the comment, he moved forward and began to rub himself against the senshi's leg, instinctively imprinting his scent onto the Eternal. A low purr rumbled through him as his tail gently thwacked the side of the boy's leg.

Goretti instinctively knelt and took Bob’s actions to mean that he wanted a good scratch behind the ears. It was something he’d been conditioned to know. If a cat came up to you and rubbed against your legs, it was your best friend, and you were supposed to pet it.

Naturally, he had no reason to think that Bob’s friendship was anything but genuine.

“Yeah,” he confirmed, smile still on his face. He ran his hand down Bob’s back before brushing his fingers over his ear. “So,” he added, “If you want to come up with me sometime, we’ll have to plan it. I’ll bring snacks. I can grab some more tuna. You like picnics? Oh,” he seemed thoughtful. “That’s a silly question, everyone likes picnics. So, I’ll bring you some tuna, and some sandwiches, and some Fruit by the Foot. Hey—you don’t eat cat food, do you? I figured Guardian Cats are too good for that, and that it probably doesn’t taste good. But I have a cat, and he likes it just fine. I don’t like it, myself, but,” he shrugged and added, perhaps to change the subject or because the idea just popped into his head, “—What do you do, by the way? I mean, you don’t have normal work hours, do you? You can’t get in trouble if you don’t awaken or upgrade x amount of Senshi or anything, right?”

Thoughts of being spoon-fed tuna while getting petted on magical, sparkly worlds sounded like a jackpot idea to Bob. Granted, he'd probably have to keep this secret on the down low, just in case but it wasn't like he had anyone to answer to, so...

Ears flicked up at the boy's questioning, followed by a smirk. If it hadn't been for Goretti already finding his way to Eternal-dom, the Mauvian might have concluded that this was simply a lead-in to whatever it was the senshi of glue wanted. Knowing Bob could offer nothing more to the tall tyke, he wasn't concerned.

"I wouldn't worry too much about my career, kiddo. Where I work, our jobs don't entail nearly as much... maintenance as your kind of furry friend."

He stretched, enjoying the sensation of the senshi's scritches. Clearly this one had some cats of his own because he seemed to go for just the right spots. "I help out senshi when I see that they need help, but when you work with a bunch of smarmy jerks, sometimes they need a little more help than you can give them."

Grinning, he glanced up at the dark-haired boy. "Or you make 'em work for it, you know?"

Goretti cocked his head to the side and raised a brow before laughing slightly. “Bob, you are terrible,” he said, in the most affectionate voice he could manage. “What sort of smarmy jerks do you work with? I mean, I’m not worrying about your career,” he insisted, trying to assure that he wasn’t prying, just curious.

“But I am worrying about you! I’d be very disappointed if I got stuck working with people that I didn’t get along with. I didn’t think Guardian Cats were stuck working with people, though—if they aren’t treating you right, you can just leave, can’t you?”

He paused and then began to pet Bob with a bit more compassion, like he was afraid that the Mauvian might have been uncomfortable or had some bad run ins that he needed to forget. Bob might have been joking but Goretti was keenly aware of how miserable a bunch of smarmy jerks—people you worked with, especially—could be. He’d seen his father come home miserable enough times to automatically have a bleeding heart.
