The excitement over the new arrivals had finally calmed down a little, but Rho remained wary of them. After all, she'd never had a conversation with one! She was too busy with other business to give the newcomers much attention anyway. ...Unfortunately, the other business was failing.
Lacking a proper outlet for her anger, she was spending time this evening at the training range. She was lying flat on a platform and aiming her crossbow at the targets in the distance. Her track record when it came to actual combat was less than appealing, and she was determined to have the coming clash roll in her favor. She had to beat him..

Enough time had passed since their crash landing that Ritz was finally able to breath. Ever since they had first made contact with the locals she had been bombarded nonstop with questions and accusations; some saw their arrival as something good and others were more hostile. She could honestly say that before arriving here she had never had so many threats tossed her way, which was surprising, given her nasty attitude.
The lanky teenager moved away from her 'camp', or rather, the area that her people had set up to try and figure out the repairs. Normally she would have been sleeping since it was still daylight, but with all the newcomers and sounds of clanging metal sleep wasn't coming to her.
She yawned as she walked, raising one dirty, calloused hand to cover her mouth. When she realized she was approaching another earthling Ritz almost turned around, but instead she stopped to watch. It wasn't as if she had any energy for work, so she might as well.

Watching the bolts hit the targets, Rho wasn't sure if this was encouraging or frustrating. If only she could be this good all the time...
Hearing soft steps, she glanced over to check who was approaching. Oh, one of the strangers! Huh. The girl looked pretty young. ...or was Rho getting old? ...Nahhh~ After a moment, Rho refocused on her targets. "Don't let me stop ya," she said idly, wondering if the girl had come to train or was simply walking by.

"You aren't. If anything, I'm distracting you. I came by to watch." Martiza moved closer to the older woman, but not so much so that Rhonann could have accidentally shot her, nor would it be inappropriate. Ritz wasn't a people person; she just didn't get that close. When she crouched her posture turned almost masculine in it's ease. Her knees splayed, one arm laying leisurely across her thigh while the other pressed it's elbow against her skin so that her hand could hold up her head.
"You seem pretty determined to hit something." Ritz wasn't sure if that was normal behavior for the people in this area, or if it was something she'd be best not prying into. Honestly, she didn't care, the teenager was simply bored.

Rho paused a moment before giving a soft 'hmm' of consideration. Came to watch.. Whatever. At least she was hitting her targets and looking decent in front of the new girl.
Brow rising at the observation, she pursed her lips and cocked her head. "That's kinda the point of this," she mused, feeling a small smirk rise. Rho looked over at the bright-eyed girl while she stretched her hands. "Ain't ya done target practice before?"

"No." She answered bluntly, indigo gaze traveling away from the other woman and to the targets. "I've never held a weapon in my life; it's not my style." Ritz held her hand out, and though she'd never held a weapon her hands were far from smooth. They were scarred, calloused and burned in spots. It was obvious to anyone who looked at them that she wasn't a sheltered girl.
"I build engines, I work on engines-" She shrugged. "I could probably figure out how your crossbow works and tune it up, but as far as shooting anything-" She shook her head. It just wouldn't happen.

Rho pushed her torso to be propped up on her elbows while she inspected the hands held out toward her. Worker hands. That was good to see. "Good life to have, if yeh can have it," she said with a little softness in her voice. To have no need for a weapon...
"Engines?" She gave the other a slightly perplexed look. "I assume that's part of what makes them ships fly?" Glancing to her bow, she gave it a brush with her hand. "Any interest in tryin' ta shoot it?"

"It is. The main reason, actually. Several thousand cogs come together to-" Without meaning to Martiza went off on a tangent explaining the 'simplistic' version of what an engine was without really being simple at all. Of course to her it sounded like something she might tell a child, but for someone without any knowledge of mechanics...
She stopped several times to yawn, but that didn't stop her. She simply wasn't used to being awake so long in the daytime. This sun business was exhausting.
"No." Ritz stated bluntly, "I wouldn't mind taking it apart and examining it, but I'm not interested in practicing with such a basic weapon."

Rho stared blankly at the woman as the 'simple' version of how engines worked was explained. ...Was this woman really still speaking the same language? Eventually, Rho shook her head and went back to shooting the bolts.
Basic?! For a split second, Rho felt the urge to retaliate. This was no basic weapon! Tonight though, she had the clarity of mind to see the logic of the statement. "I s'pose it does seem kinda basic compared ta that engine thingy," she said with a sigh, cocking her head to sight the target. She smirked slightly as she pulled the trigger. "What're yeh doin' up if ye're so tired? Awful lot of yawnin' going on there."

"That's because it is." Martiza stated simply, dully, as if the fact didn't need stating in the first place. It was almost as bad as those bows and arrows she had seen when they first landed, but at least this one had some sort of tech in it. Not enough to suit her, but it would do, she supposed. "If you've a mind to travel come to Belrea, and we can give you a weapon that will put all others to shame." Certainly she wouldn't lose any battles here, in such a primitive land, with one of theirs.
"I'm nocturnal; always have been. I work through the night and sleep during the day. Unfortunately, our crash didn't wait until nightfall so that I could be properly woken." She responded with the proper amount of sarcasm, punctuating it with a healthy yawn. "The others...the natives have so many questions and this is the first since landing that I haven't been swarmed."

Rho slid a rather flat look in the girl's direction, but held her tone. This was no one to argue with. Of course, the enticement of a more powerful weapon was a strong draw.
"Well, goodness sake, go get some sleep," she snorted. "No shortage of people willin' ta swarm when there's 'n openin'." Cocking a brow, she sat up and wiggled her fingers teasingly. "Maybe I'll swarm ya since ye're here~ Learnin' about tha' fancy weapon ya mentioned would be worth it."

"Is that your way of telling me to leave?" Surely when one suggested the other to sleep that generally meant that conversations were over. Not that she would have held hurt feelings over it.
Still, the excitement of talking over mechanics and advanced weaponry kept her awake. "We have two that may be of some interest to you; the blunderbuss and dual pistols. A blunderbuss is roughly the same shape as what you carry now, except replace the firing mechanism with a long barrel, a tube if you will, one that shoots precise magic at an opponent."
Ritz attempted to draw a rough sketch in the dirt; it wasn't much but it got the point across. "Dual pistols are much the same except they're smaller, and as the name suggests, there are two. They're faster and easier to conceal."

Rho snorted and shrugged noncommittally. The woman could interpret it however she liked. More details on those weapons though... She turned to sit up, listening closely. She couldn't help being drawn in despite understanding almost none of it. Squinting at the dirt sketch, she glanced up at the girl. "Don't got one a' them things on tha' flyin' ship o' yers ta show off, do ya?"

"Of course we do," Maritza clucked her tongue. "What do you take us for, fools? How were we to know if your people were friendly or not." Several of the members of her crew were armed, herself included. Even if she didn't know how to operate a blunderbuss all that well, her mother had forced her to take one for safety measures.
"Just point and shoot, Ritz. It's that easy."
She leaned back on her haunches, looking at Rhonann a moment before rising to her full height. "Come on then, I know that look; you aren't going to stop asking about them until you see 'em. Problem is we can't go now; the ship is swarmed with people so we'll go at night and until then I could use a snack. So, you get me a bite to eat and I'll let you practice with our tech, deal?"

Rho cocked her brow with a little surprise, and then snorted. "Bit touchy there, ain'tchya~" she observed with an amused smirk. She could be amused, because she was never touchy. Nope. Never.
Standing as well, she brushed the dirt off from her front and nodded. "Fine. I'll get ya some food, an' you show me that fancy thing of yers." Brushing a few stray hairs from her face, she inclined her head toward where one of the local taverns was located. "Yeh needin' some real food, 'r just a bite, kid?"
