Who: Dior (GlassKitteh) and Ethiriel (NeonMace)
When: Mid February
Where: An outlet mall of thrift shops and antique stores
Weather: Somewhat chilly and overcast but no sign of rain
PostPosted: Mon Feb 13, 2017 8:28 pm

Ethiriel had caught the scent without even leaving the shop yet.

After purchasing her current haul from the thrift store, the Sigel made sure everything was securely put in place before she offered the nice old man a warm smile and bow, turning to head toward the door. Ethiriel could smell a similar metal to herself as well as a lovely, delicate floral scent coming from outside. There was only one explanation for it.

Opening the door to the first shop, Ethiriel hovered out confidently with Nedhudir at her side before bumping into the source of the scent head on. "Oh!" she exclaimed, dropping her bag and flinching at the sound of metal hitting the sidewalk. "My goodness, I am so terribly sorry...!" Normally she wasn't clumsy... The Sigel couldn't help but laugh as she hovered lower to begin picking up the bits of silver she managed to find before looking up, rather dumbstruck.

Could... could she see something...?

Rowan had said she could look for something small to bring back home. The main antique shop had nothing but furniture not even a cat would want to claw at. The clothing had also been questionable but there was one heavy fur coat that had caught her eye. It was a dark plum with extra fur around the neck. Immediately she buried her fingers in it, loving the softness and the occasional tangle.

Her enjoyment was short lived however as something, or rather someone, pushed her into the mannequin sending her sprawling. The first mannequin bumped into another and in turn that one made a lamp fall. It was a good thing it didn't have any lightbulbs in it!

“Ow jeeeez,” not that she had been hurt or anything, but that was how her older brother reacted when she pushed him off the bed, it only seemed fitting. Her disgruntledness was briefly interrupted and replaced with excitement when she saw who was to blame, a raevan!

“Sister?” She asked forgetting about the incident. They didn’t even look alike, but she had a ribbon, so therefore they were related, right? "It's ok, I gueeess," she said scratching the side of her neck out of habit.

The frei shrugged her sweatshirt back onto her shoulder and then clapped at the sight of the dog. Dior inspected the canine with her antennas, almost as if scanning it for goodies. There was metal in its name tag and letters engraved but it was all a scribble to her and not what she was looking for.“Name?”

For a moment, Ethiriel was too preoccupied with the dulled... something... she could vaguely see before her. It was only the outline of Dior's wings -- at least, what she could see from this angle -- but the idea was still throwing her through a loop. It definitely wasn't pure silver, far too unclear and dull for that, but... she could see it. The roach's familial comment was enough to pull her from her stupid, and while she continued staring at the gilded wings, her brows furrowed in confusion.

Again, what was it with everyone and being family...? Why couldn't the Sigel understand...?

Dior's dismissal of the incident also confused Ethiriel, but she didn't let the thought linger if her companion wasn't going to. If it weren't for the Frei approaching Nedhudir instead of herself, Ethiriel would have confused the inquiry was for herself, even if it could have been for either.

"He is Nedhudir, my service dog. I regret to say that he is doing his duty, so it is perhaps better not to touch him for the time being." To try and dust off the aggressive sounding intentions in that statement, she continued, "But I do apologize. My name is Ethiriel. May I ask of yours?"

Dior looked over her shoulder wondering where exactly Ethiriel was looking at and assumed it was the mess they had made. Now that she was done inspecting the furry companion she moved on to the larger raevan.

Was she half tree? She brought her face closer to Ethiriel’s body patting her down in search of gold running her hands from her ribbon up as far as she could reach. Dior raised an eyebrow at the sigel, sensing something about her, but nothing to make her antennas quiver.

She smoothed her hands down the other raevan’s arm and held her hand in front of her face, inspecting it. Finally she gave it a tentative lick and looked thoughtful for a second before deciding that the young lady didn’t hold what she was looking for.

The frei didn’t quite understand what a service dog was, or what service it was doing, but the 'don’t touch him' was clear enough. Like don’t rush down the hall, or don’t take my stuff, or don’t blow bubbles into tea... “Eat good and grow big Nedhudir,” she told it parroting something she had heard.

“I’m Dior. I’m a good spirit like the sun.” Giving Ethiriel a curious side glance she floated to the minor mess they had made and started to set the items back where they belong. The mannequin was much larger (and heavier!) than her so she left it for the sigel.

She dusted off the lamp and set it right on the table where it had been. When she was done with her task she crossed her arms, frowning at Ethiriel. Why was she just standing there? “Heeello? Help?” She gave her an exasperated look. The sigel had helped create the mess it was only fair she help clean it!

While it was well within Ethiriel's nature to explore others upon their first meeting (or, at least, when they would finally allow), she certainly wasn't used to the same happening to her. She let out a soft laugh and allowed Dior to do as she pleased, a pleasant smile on her face all the while. The lick was met with surprise, having not expected it, but it didn't put the Sigel off. Once her arm was released, she clasped them before her ribbon.

Another chuckle escaped her chest as the roach spoke to Nedhudir.

A good spirit like the Sun? That was certainly an interesting way to describe oneself, something Ethiriel had never heard before. "A pleasure," she said, eyes following Dior's wings with renewed confusion once she set to working on cleaning their mess. Able to hear what she was doing, the Sigel admittedly felt terrible that there was little she could do to help.

And then Dior goaded the same.

"O-oh," Ethiriel stammered, her pleasant smile faltering just for a moment. "I... am afraid I am not much help. I cannot see and would probably only make matters worse--"

Dior’s mouth formed into a perfect little ‘o’. She felt rather conflicted. The mannequin wasn’t going to stand by itself, but more importantly she couldn’t see? At all?

“Really?” her voice was lowered as if it were some secret nobody else should hear. She crossed her arms in front of her chest. What was that the sigel had said earlier? “I am so terribly sorry,” she rubbed her arms wondering if those were the right words. Sorry was not new to her, having had already used it at home more than a few times.

“Reeally?” she waved her hand in front of Eth wondering if she would even flinch. The idea that she couldn’t even see the sun bothered her a lot. She scratched the nape of her neck unsure of what to do.

Dior then inched closer and grabbed Ethiriel’s hand. If they pretended to not be connected to the little mess than no one would even look their way, or so she thought. She nudged forward ready to leave the evidence behind. “Does it… hurt?”

It seemed as though apologies were common following this mistake, but with each one, Ethiriel would softly shake her head with a smile. "There is no need to apologize. There is nothing wrong with me."

As Dior waved before her eyes, Ethiriel remained focused -- or rather, unfocused -- vaguely towards the young Frei.

With her hand grabbed and slowly being pulled away, the Sigel honestly figured that Dior had finished the job, herself, and was ready to move on. She followed without question, gently pulling Nedhudir along who did the same. Ethiriel didn't think to explain the silver sight quite yet, it not being a concern at the moment, yet mindlessly she glanced around in hopes of anything catching her eye -- though once they would land on Dior's wings, she would stare in confusion again. Why could she vaguely see it?

"Oh! No, no. It does not hurt. There is no feeling to it; it is just the lack of a single sense. Well, sort of, anyway." Had she a free hand, it would have made its way to her chin. With her eyes squarely on the gold gilding, Ethiriel felt the need to ask; "If you do not mind me asking, what are you made of? When I say I am blind, there is a singular exception. I can see silver... but why are your wings partially visible to me?"

"Oh okay," she replied shrugging. Sometimes she caught the sigel looking in her general direction, but as seeing she hadn't even flinched at her wave she figured there was nothing more to it.

The frei led her to the next store away from the crime scene. This one was as classic an antique store as they came. They even had carrousel horses for sale!

"Look!" She pointed to it and yanked her to where it stood. A look back at Ethiriel's face reminded her that she couldn't look. "... nevermind, feel," she guided her hand to the neck of the highly decorated horse. She gave the horse a pat on its rump before starting to squirm on top of it.

To her question, she tilted her head. "Sugar, spice and everything nice. And gold. Rowan said my name means 'golden.' I was made with a gold bar," she told her sounding quite sure.

"So you can see. Silver." She scrunched up her face as the confusion set in.

Dior looked over her shoulder to wonder why Ethiriel could see her wings. "It's magic."She concluded and with a curious glance at the sigel's frame, "What are you made of?"

While she wasn't used to rough treatment -- if you could call getting tugged around by a child as such -- Ethiriel couldn't help but let out a laugh as she was guided to the carousel with such intent. The Sigel obliged and felt along the curves and crevices of the ceramic horse, quite enjoying the feeling of its cracked paint and general craftsmanship. She also let out a chuckle when Dior wriggled her way on top.

Gold. So that was why. Ethiriel lifted her chin in thought, glancing back to Dior's wings once again. To the concept of it being magic, well, it wasn't like that was incorrect. "Gold has traces of silver, so now I understand. And yes... I do agree that my vision is quite strange; we have never quite figured out what it is. Possibly some sort of magic filter."

She didn't feel the need to mention them having tried to get rid of it once before. It failed and wasn't an important factor.

"I am made of unoxidized silver; I cannot break, tarnish or melt... at least, as far as meeting a melting point via extreme temperature. I am able to control my silver at will."

So far it seemed as if Dior was the most scrappy of the younger appearing Raevans she had met, but that was rather endearing in its own way. Ethiriel smiled fondly at the young roach, though her eyes remained planted on the vague and fuzzy outline of Dior's wings. Speaking of... "What of interest is there for someone so young in a strip mall of antique stores? Does your guardian have an interest in these things?"

“That’s interesting,” she replied rocking as best as she could with what mass she had. So she had bits of what Ethiriel was made of too? Silver? Cool. Her antennas moved lazily, switching from one side to the next as if on standby.

“You can control it? The silver? How? I cannot break or melt too?” She asked her trying to piece the information together. The roach Frei wiped her hands on the fabric of her top and turned her frame around, her hands now on the horse’s romp. It was a bit harder to keep her balance like this and she wobbled around to try and maintain it.

“Rowan likes the things here. Old things, like her. Sometimes I find gold on old things too,” she licked her lips. “I love it. Oh. Weird old things too,” she patted the horse’s flank. Dior had her own kind of fun in her exploration and findings. However she hadn’t noticed that Rowan and Rhys were not with her anymore.

Ethiriel couldn't help but smile when the Frei certainly sounded interested, but she sounded young and the Sigel couldn't fault her for it. She'd never experienced "childhood" in any real sense, always having been a bit on the mature side, even as a Frei, so she couldn't quite relate... but she understood well enough. While they each had their own personalities, all of the children-esque Raevans felt a little similar at the root.

While she glanced around for bits of silver to observe, Ethiriel let out a small hum to let Dior know she had been listening. With her brows knit upward, she offered a smile as she turned back. "Unfortunately, I cannot answer that -- at least, your second question. I do not know if you are unbreakable. That would perhaps be a question to ask Dr. Kyou." Technically, she didn't have an answer for the first question either, but instead she showed Dior by retracting her silver crown, then allowing it to come back.

"Rowan is your guardian?" Ethiriel asked, reaching forward until she could find the pole of the carousel to ground herself. "I do wish I could enjoy things the way others do at times, but I have my own ways of enjoyment... so I suppose it is not a bad thing," she said with a smile, directed to her new companion.

Dior listened to the sigel attentively. She had a gentle way of speaking, it reminded her of Rowan in a way. The frei rolled her shoulders and shifted her wings one under the other for a change. She stretched bringing her arms over her head and yelped as she nearly lost her balance. A giggle of relief escaped her.

"Okay I'll ask," she replied. Her antennas perked and her eyes widened when Ethiriel showed her what power she had. Her mouth was formed in a perfect silent 'o' as she watched it come back. "How!" She tugged her shirt, wanting her to come even closer. "Again?" Her eyes were fixed on her head. "How!!"

"Yes. Rhys is my brother? Sometimes. Sometimes not," she shrugged. At times the younger boy was more than happy to play games with her, but when she wanted to play he was quick to brush her off too. It made her quite confused.

"Where is your guardian?" Dior asked looking around, her eyes settling on the dog. "What is enjoy for you? Not this?" She smacked the horse's wooden behind for good measure.

The Sigel's attention heightened when Dior yelped with lack of balance, but her natural instinct was not to reach out and help. Despite her ability to "see" the young Frei, never once was Ethiriel ever expected to catch something. When her companion giggled, she felt relieved, herself.

Her own chuckle escaped Ethiriel as Dior became intimately interested in her little "trick," but she didn't oblige further. Gently clutching the Frei's hands in her own, she smiled and said, "I do not know how to explain, it is just something I am able to do. Someday, you will find the abilities deep inside yourself, and you shall know what I mean. It is something special to me, as whatever you can do will be to you."

With the comment of "sometimes," Ethiriel became unsure. Family still wasn't something she considered, and saying that someone was "sometimes" one's brother made the concept make less sense. Her confusion was clear on her face before Dior moved forward with two more questions and she was able to fix her expression.

"My guardian is at work; I am on my own -- well, I suppose not. I am here with Nedhudir," Ethiriel explained, lightly lifting her dog's leash in emphasis. Bringing a finger up to her chin, she shook her head. "You enjoy things by sight and what you can do with something based on what you see. I can only rely on touch and what I am able to do by holding. I do not get to play around and climb on things--" --not that she ever had the intention to do so -- "--but, honestly, I am fine with it. Everyone is made differently and I am able to appreciate that. Listening to you enjoy the carousel lightens my heart as if I were there playing with you."

With Dior having not noticed, Ethiriel never knew that the young Frei had been with anyone else. They happened upon each other solo.

Dior looked thoughtful as she stared at the Sigel's face. She was relieved Ethiriel was having fun... in her own way, even if she was just standing there listening. She did bring up points that hadn't crossed her mind and the Frei was enthralled.

"Deep inside me," she looked at her antennas in wonder. She had the power, but they didn't do much except flick around now and then. Hmm. Her attention shifted to the answer the silver raevan gave.

"What do you like to touch? Soft things? Nedhudir?" With a sudden burst of energy she propelled what body she had off the horse and used her wings to land. She rolled her shoulders around to get one wing over the other again and as she looked behind her a sparkling display case caught her eyes.

She grabbed Ethiriel's arm and tugged her towards it. "Pretty," she whispered in awe. A middle aged man who had been hiding behind the counter rose and smiled at the two raevans. He had a basic oxford shirt and khaki pants uniform and a name tag that read Ron over his left breast.

"Good day young ladies," he started, rubbing his hands together at the prospect of buyers. "Can I help you look for something in particular?"

He didn't have to ask twice as Dior was ready to climb over the counter to get inside the case.

"That one, and that," she pointed to a dozen items and within seconds the man was rubbing his neck regretting his decision. He politely obliged the request and took out a flat box of gold rings that contained about 24 pieces. Immediately the girl took as many as she could popping them on every finger. Dior wiggled her fingers at the man who gave her a tight smile and then at Ethiriel.

"What about you?" Ron asked the Sigel figuring he would have better luck with her actually buying something. "I have these lovely peridot necklaces that would just look wonderful."
