IC: In Character Hello, trainer. It's me. The prof. You know? The one from before? Here's some useful information for you. Now, first things first. Just because you get a Pokémon from me, it doesn't mean you have to be a battle trainer. There are so many things to do and be! You can enter the Pokémon pageants (where Pokémon and trainers perform their talents), become a coordinator (where Pokémon and trainers work together to show off their teamwork and special moves in stunning displays), become a breeder (to help save rare or endangered Pokémon, study their life cycles, and care for generations), become a Pokémon chef (creating new Pokémon food and studying healthy/effective diets), a Pokémon researcher (studying all things Pokémon), or more! You can even just take your Pokémon home or travel simply as friends. The possibilities are limitless! I'm just here to help you find your new lifelong friend and/or teammate.
It's important, however, to train your Pokémon to some degree. They will need to learn, just like children, to be cooperative and kind. Pokémon that aren't trained often become aggressive or spoiled, or just generally troublesome. They, like children, can get into all kinds of trouble and mischief and fall in with the wrong crowds. Not only this, but training helps keep your Pokémon healthy and happy. If they don't exercise and use their abilities, they become lethargic, restless, and even depressed. Not to mention unhealthy. So it's important to learn about them, set boundaries, and work with them each day to grow strong and healthy. Plus, it's great for bonding!
So let's go over some basics before we get to pairing you up...

Know Your PokéballsPokéballs are the most basic equipment a trainer has. Even if you're not a trainer, you will still need pokéballs for keeping your Pokémon in - whether they be friends, teammates, or whatever! If you're traveling, it's best to have a pokéball on hand - even if your Pokémon walk beside you. Why? The answer is simple: safety. When thieves, aggressive Pokémon, or other dangers crop up, your Pokémon is safest in their pokéball. (This is simply a rule of thumb; some trainers catch thieves, battle Pokémon, and so on. But a pokéball is a good thing to have on hand when things get too rough.)
Luckily, pokéballs are pretty much intuitive based on their colors and names - and you don't have to use specific ones for specific things. They simply increase chances of capture. The exception is the Luxury Ball. This is an unnecessary pokéball as all are comfortable for Pokémon. The Luxury Ball is decorated lavishly (likely as a status symbol) and includes certain unnecessary comforts such as the Pokémon's favored aroma and/or colored lights based on the model. Some have even augmented it for soothing music. Which, again, is wholly unnecessary as the Pokémon is transformed into light particles. Sure, they can still enjoy it, but they don't really get anything out of it. In fact, you have to be careful. If you spoil a Pokémon, they won't listen to you. And that's not just a control issue, but a bond issue. Your bond will deteriorate if your Pokémon won't listen to you and let you care for it. Long story short, use Luxury Balls sparingly and - for best results - with timid/wild/previously mistreated Pokémon to help bring them out of their shell and gain their trust. So, haha, rant over! Moving on...
There are 27 different types of Pokéballs currently. Yikes. But don't worry, I won't make you learn them all. I'll just give you the basics of the most common and your handy little Pokédex will do the rest. After you select your Pokémon, you will get one. This will be used as a map, reference, Pokémon guide, shop transaction, etc. Everything will be done through this neat little device. Cool, right? Of course it is. Anyway...
BASIC These pokéballs are the basic tools at your disposal and available at any Pokémart.
≣ Poké Ball: Basic, extremely common, relatively cheap. It gets the job done and is comfortable for most any Pokémon the world over. Buy plenty, use often. But, uh... Maybe buy a marker so you don't get them mixed up with everyone else's. Just a thought. Hey! It happens...
≣ Great Ball: A little more pricey than a standard Poké Ball, but it has a greater chance of successfully catching a Pokémon. If a Pokémon is particularly tough or crafty, I recommend lobbing one of these suckers at it. I'd keep a couple on hand if I were you, but don't go wasting them. I will seriously make fun of you if you use one on a Caterpie or Magikarp.
SPECIAL These pokéballs are special promotions, limited editions, or ones that have useful upgrades. These might not be found at every shop, but they're not difficult to find.
≣ Ultra Ball: This has an even higher success than the Great Ball.
≣ Dusk Ball: This pokéball makes it easier to catch Pokémon in dark places or at night. It also provides a comfortable, dim environment for Pokémon that might prefer it.
≣ Net Ball: Operates like a net, making it easier to catch bug types or water types that hang out in the mid zone to just below the surface.
≣Dive Ball: Different from a Net Ball, this ball makes it easier to catch Pokémon at depths.
≣ Heal Ball: This heals the HP (hit points/health) and status conditions (poison, paralysis, sleep, etc.) of any Pokémon captured within.
≣ Nest Ball: This is comforting and more effective for lower level, wild Pokémon. Usually weak Pokémon or first stage evolution Pokémon. Great for those wanting to raise a Pokémon through all stages.
UNCOMMON/RARE These pokéballs are rare, expensive, and/or unusual. They're not easy to find and when you do manage to track one down, you'd better hope you have enough coin.
≣ Beast Ball: Designed to catch Ultra Beasts.
≣ Luxury Ball: Makes a wild Pokémon grow friendly quicker. Sometimes spoils tame Pokémon.
≣ Master Ball: Makes it easier to catch Pokémon that evolve using a Moon Stone.

Type Match-Ups This one is pretty easy for anyone who's ever done anything. What beats fire? Water. It puts fire out. What beats grass/plant? Fire. It burns it. What beats water? Grass/plant. It absorbs it. I mean, it's pretty common sense. Some are a bit trickier (metal, ghost, poison, dark, fairy), but have no fear! Most anything can be beaten simply by hard work, perseverance, and a lot of potions. But to save on potions, here are the type match-ups...
Type: Weak / Strong
