Luckily it was still pretty chilly outside which meant that Rory could wear long sleeves and layers to hide the bruising for the most part. In all honestly, it wasn't too bad and she'd probably suffered from worse when she had boarding accidents but her pride was also wounded.
She had known that training with Obsidian would be difficult, but she hadn't expected to be beaten so easily.
Naivety had given her the false impression that she was capable of holding her own to some degree with the general and she should have prepared herself better. Her sides hurt the most, the bruising from Obsidian's kick hadn't faded yet even with her increased healing factor and she hadn't taken any volunteer spots because she was afraid of too many people seeing her and spotting the fading bruise beneath her jawline.
Really, Rory was lucky that Pops hadn't seen anything yet, because he would flip and he already worried about her too much.
Besides, she hadn't truly proved herself to Obsidian yet and despite herself, Rory was so desperate to.
Hiding beneath her scarf that she'd worn simply to hide the yellowish-green of her jaw beneath her cheek, she stepped up to the counter with her small amount of earned money at one of the many cafes that lined the streets of DC. "Just a small hot chocolate please," she asked quietly, carefully counting bills while the barista typed in her order.
