The call to her wonder, the desire to go, had been mounting as of recently. It wasn’t a need but a want - a very strong want. She knew she needed to do, in order to sate that desire of hers but she wouldn’t go alone. She had told Sutai that she would bring her and she intended to keep that promise.

It meant putting off going, at least for a short while, as she had to take the time to message the other and wait for a reply and arrange a time that both of them were free. It was all done though, she didn’t want to go and not bring the other, and now she stood waiting in the park for the other. She had packed food and drink with herself and her fellow squire. She didn’t know how long they’d be there so who knows what they might need.

Since her wonder had running water and she’d found what had to have been the bathroom in the past she had certain...needs with her to supply it with. Since her wonder had running water she had to assume that system worked as it should...and that no problems from using it would arrive, if it was needed. She did not want to cause a problem at her wonder, there was no way to get a plumber up to Polaris, but it was better than starving at her wonder or going without drinking due to the later need to use a bathroom. It also was better than limiting herself to short trips, since she was trying to clean up such a large wonder.

“Miss Winterlyyyyynn~” came a singsong trill.

Anandi had spent the afternoon packing a small backpack full of essential supplies for Wonder Travel: two blankets, drinks, snacks, a home cooked Indian meal for both of them and a Swiss Army knife. One never knew when a corkscrew or nail file might come in handy! Her mother naturally asked where she was off to, and Anandi replied that she was meeting a new friend who wanted to do some outdoor photography. A lie, unfortunately, but the outdoor portion of the story was at least correct.

Arriving at the appointed time and place, the Indian girl made sure to dress warmly tonight, bringing a full winter coat this time. She may have to wear it while exploring Delphi’s Wonder. Who knew if it even had heating?

“I'm ready whenever you are!” Chipper as ever. This was exciting!

Quote:
Looking up from where she was rubbing her bare hands together, she didn’t much like gloves as she felt they killed the dexterity of her fingers, the pale eyes woman looked over the other. “It’s good to see you.” It was good to see the other appeared to be well, and seemed to have brought things with her as well.

“Ready?” She asked, preparing to power up so she could bring them both to her wonder. The bag she had her supplies in was set down, so it didn’t vanish on her when she powered up. “It’ll be a short walk from where we’ll arrive to the inside of a building but once inside I promise it’s warm. I have heating and running water at my wonder.” She made to assure the other, wanting her to know that her wonder was capable of providing some things people needed - water and warmth. There could be more that her wonder could provide, she was sure of it, but...she either hadn’t found it or it was yet to be provided.

“You should power up.” Meanwhile she was doing just that - powering up. Her clothing giving way to the uniform of a squire of Polaris.

Quote:
Anandi nodded vigorously, happy to know it would only be a short walk in the chilling cold from their arrival point to the Wonder itself. Without a word, she powered up to her form as a Polaris Squire and gripped her travel bag tightly. “Yes, Miss Delphi. I'm ready whenever you are!”

Truthfully, she was quite excited to explore Polaris again, and being able to do so indoors was even better. “It will be so very good to return to the star. I'll help wherever I can! Just point the way, Miss Delphi!”

Quote:
“I’ll be sure to. If anything I’m still working on cleaning...it’s a never ending task. My wonder is big so there is a lot to clean and I can only be there a short amount of time. The cold used to be the issue as well as running water - due to bathroom needs. Now it’s gotten better though it is still difficult.” Spending so much time up there and eating and drinking while up there led to certain needs...and she only had just recently found what was a bathroom.

She couldn’t spend the night unless she wanted to sleep on the floor, she hadn’t found living quarters yet. There was also no bathroom with a shower or bathtub found, and even if they were found would the water work? She knew the water pipes inside the walls worked and under ground to the fountain. But that didn’t mean all the pipes would work. She had been lucky thus far, and she knew it.

Holding the other close she focused on just what she wanted, on where she wanted to be, and it seemed almost instantaneous that they arrived in the bitter, harsh, cold of Polaris. The ground under their feet was not snow covered though but rather cobbled stones. They were in a plaza or open square with a large building quite a ways ahead of them and one on either side of them, again a distance from them. Two towers, one on either side bookcasing the building ahead of them. Standing there, bubbling away with steam rising from it, was the fountain she had spoken of. In the middle of the square was warm, to hot, water bubbling forth like it wasn’t out of place but rather natural.

“You can warm your hands in the fountain. The walk isn’t too bad...the cobbles are a bit...harsh at first.” As they would always be when in heels.

Quote:
The harsh wind was something Sutai expected, but still didn’t seem prepared for. She squeaked when the chill crept into her skin and made a mad dash for the fountain to warm herself. The Squire attempted to stifle a whine, but wasn’t really successful. India was so hot compared to the frost of Polaris.

Delphi’s Wonder was something very impressive, but closer inspection would have to wait. Unfortunately for her, Sutai’s outfit simply wasn’t made for outdoor climes such as these, and she was quite jealous of Delphi’s built-in winter coat. Even with her own heavy winter wear, Sutai still felt cold when the wind kicked up.

Tripping was also a hazard but the dark-skinned girl didn’t pay it too much mind - keeping her fingers from falling off was priority number one! “Is the i-i-inside nice and warm, M-m-miss Delphi? I should really like to see the inside…” Being a complete stranger here, Sutai felt uneasy with the idea of running in a random direction and hoping it was a door. Her Wonder wasn’t a building like Delphi’s was. Had the Sutai of the past been here before?

Quote:
Dressed for the cold, and expecting it, Delphi was slower in approaching the fountain in order to warm her own hands. It was nice, warm to the point of almost being hot. If she found a private bathroom here with a tub or shower...she would love to soak in or be sprayed by such warm water - it was muscle soothing heat.

The buildings of her wonder where metal, surprising perhaps, but odder was the style of them was greek. They looked like something out of an ancient history lesson where you learned about the columns, their styles, and building styles. It just fit so much, aside from the building materials used.

“Yes, the inside is warm - I promise.” She said while moving to take off her coat. Under it she wore full clothing so she could spare the coat. Instead she covered the other with the coat, adding to the layers the other had on. “Let’s get us both inside.”

Already draping an arm about the others shoulders she moved to hurry them both toward one of the spiral towers, one of the libraries, with every intent of getting them inside and proving the other some warmth as well as herself now. When she did climb the few, very short, steps she went to open the door to the building. Inside was just a big circular room with book cases, loaded down with books, moving around the room and leaving the center of the room open where tables and chairs were situated. Little, ancient, lights of some form were settled on the table tops but none worked.

The place was clean, thankfully, and lacked dust. It seemed that somehow her wonder wasn’t recollecting dust since her first few trips here to clean things up. Rather it remained clean, something she was happy about.

There were stairs that led up to a second and a third floor where there were more book shelves, little tables and chairs, and the place really was just a massive library. “Have a seat, it’s warm in here.” And it was indeed.

Quote:
“Wooooow!” she cried, clearly underestimating the sheer amount of books and spaciousness that Delphi’s Wonder possessed. “Look at all of this stuff, Miss Delphi! Were you a librarian?” The cold somewhat forgotten, Sutai went from bookcase to table to light fixture, bouncing all the way. “I admit, I don’t know too much about Polaris itself, except that it is so very cold! You weren’t exaggerating when you said your Wonder was expansive… but this is unreal!”

It certainly put a simple mountain to shame!

“It looks so clean! How long did it take you to clear it up like this, Miss Delphi?” Sutai was admiring how the tables looked freshly dusted, and the room itself didn’t smell of must and mold like a closed-off attic typically would. The perky Polaris Squire wondered absently if she should make it to the top of her Wonder to clean. Would that make Princess Polaris happy? Then, of course, came the realization that there may not be anything at the top, much less something to clean. It was a mountain, after all.

With a salute to her senior, Sutai swayed happily back and forth. “It’s really something, Miss Delphi. I’d love to explore it, with permission, but I’ll help wherever I can first! Okay?”

Quote:
“I don’t know...with the court buildings also I don’t know. The books...I know they are all law books. So maybe not a librarian so much as something dealing with law.” A lawyer maybe or a judge or something higher up if there had ever been such. She simply didn’t know but it was all a possibility. She knew what types of books filled the two libraries, she had known it for a long time...it had just come to her.

“It’s a whole complex...court cases held in the buildings and people could look up laws in the libraries or study law. Not just those here on Polaris but the laws of elsewhere.” Biting down on her bottom lip she glanced about the library herself. “I just sort of know...one tower library is for here and the other for books containing laws from elsewhere. I don’t remember what I’d been through.” Which was fine, really it was, she knew what her wonder served as a purpose and that was a big thing to her - that meant a lot. Her wonder had been important and needed.

Who knows what sorts of laws were dealt with here...what cases and how important they were...life changing and much more. She couldn’t remember it but she was sure of it.

“A long time and a lot of trips here. I have the cleaning supplies I used in a tupperware, a giant one, over at the other library as I’ve been working on cleaning there. Once that’s done I’m moving to the main court house then I’ll do the other two. I just wonder if I’ll ever get it all done...it’s so large.” Plus she knew there were holding cells as well, her piece of the code was down in one of them nice and safe.

“You can explore here, the other library is mostly clean as well. I’m afraid I’ve not gotten to the court buildings and only visited one briefly. I don’t know where the living quarters are either. But be my guest and explore here if you like. Most of the books seem to be in good condition. I assume the cold helped in that aspect.” She’d have to talk to Hyperborea and see if the younger knight couldn’t bring herself and Sutai to her wonder. It would be a nice chance to bond and enjoy the warmth of someone else's wonder, since their wonders offered only the warmth provided by heating and not by the planet or wonder itself.

Quote:
Polaris must have been a very busy and important star back when things were still running as they should have been. If this was Delphi’s Wonder, and it had such importance, what importance, if any, did a plain old mountain have? Sutai frowned for a moment. It wasn’t that she was jealous - no sir! - but that she was contemplating the importance of a natural feature such as a mountain when Delphi’s Wonder was an entire complex of buildings, encompassing vast amounts of laws and knowledge.

“I’ll help wherever I can, Miss Delphi. If you need me to clean then I’d be happy to!” The squire clapped her hands happily. “After all, you were kind enough to bring me back to Polaris when I haven’t been in a very long time. Sometimes it’s so very difficult to properly balance duty to the star and duty to the family on Earth, you know?” Not that it was any excuse, but Sutai had the feeling their mutual Princess would be forgiving.

The bubbly Squire felt it best to keep where Delphi could see her, since she was wholly unfamiliar with the complex. It would be easy to get lost if it was indeed as large as Delphi said it was. Curiosity got the better of her though, and she snatched a book from its ancient resting place, being careful not to drop it or rip the pages carelessly.

Anandi was bilingual, but the script that the parchment produced were completely alien to her. “Miss Delphi, is this the language of Polaris? It looks like a bunch of scribbles…” Frowning, the squire walked the book carefully to one of the weary old tables and set it down. “This definitely isn’t Hindi. I’m sorry, Miss Delphi. I can’t read it. Can you?”

Quote:
“I might ask for some help, but I’d rather just have the company. It does get boring when you spend several hours here cleaning.” She explained while sitting there, at one of the tables, watching the other. She was rather curious if nothing else, and Delphi could appreciate that. Wanting to explore and learn was a good thing.

“I can understand how the balance is hard to maintain, add in school and work and it can become more difficult.” She wasn’t even sure she could fit in dating if such a thing were to ever come up for her, not that she had any plans of dating anyone. “I would however like to help you with your wonder when I can. I have mine, and mine is good and slowly being worked on. Yours however...we should work on you getting up to the peak.” She said flashing a smile towards the girl. While the other offered to help clean here she was offering to help the other discover her wonder, and get over any fear she may have.

“No, I can’t either.” Standing she moved to sit next to the other. “I don’t think anyone can read the language of their planet. I think we’re all lost on whatever information is written down at wonders and other sites. It’s a shame, really, something useful could be found by anyone of us if we could translate or read these ancient languages.” Reaching out, fingertips skimming over the lines which formed some sort of words, she sighed. A few marks she could remember seeing before...that memory. They had been on that rock.

“Yes, that would be the language of Polaris. It’s a dead language.” She doubted anyone on Earth could figure it out - ever.

Quote:
Sutai leaned back on her heels and huffed, her tutu bouncing with the motion. “I suppose it doesn’t really matter if we can read the language of Polaris or not, because any laws that might have pertained to governing the star are…” What was the word in English? “..defunct!” She felt triumphant for remembering the word in English, but saddened by the implication that life on Polaris, nay, the entire universe, would not return to the way it was. At the very least, not in their lifetimes.

“But still, I should like to see what life was like on Polaris when people still lived here. What was their everyday life like? Did they come here to Delphi to see you and read the books? Were there lots of criminals that needed the courthouse?” Sutai absently walked about the room, tracing her fingers on the edges of the tired bookcases. “And why would they need a knight on a mountain anyway, if Polaris had such a lovely complex as yours!”

The squire tittered nervously. The thought of climbing her mountain was a scary one - what if the staircase went on forever? What if there was no top? What if the both of them froze to death on the way up? Sutai wasn’t a climber, she was a computer programmer! One cannot simply program their way up a mountain!

Sutai let out a whine at the thought.

Quote:
“Yes, this is true. But it also might give an idea on how things were run and perhaps small bits of history. Some could speak of why a law was made or an amendment to a law came to be. But nothing would be useful beyond that. There is no government to rule and no people to rule over. We can only hope that if we rebuild enough that the next generation can continue our work. We can hope that down the line people will again inhabit this star, and other planets and stars, and the languages will somehow be understood and the history and cultures revived.” Rather than something new. While something new would be nice...it felt wrong - very wrong.

“I wish I knew...I don’t though. Maybe it also handled a lot of trade deals and business law. Polaris mentioned we took a lot of things from other places. The greek look of the buildings...but they are metal. The furniture here looks like something from Venus perhaps. So if we imported things and did a lot of trade it would make sense.” Which meant prisoners could have also been corrupt buisness dealers as well.

“Maybe your wonder was a tourist attraction. Some wonders, some of the best in fact, are natural at least on Earth. Maybe when you get to the peak you’ll find out. I’ll help you get there.” She answered smiling at the other.

Quote:
Sutai poked her cheek absently. “It would be pretty neat to have the galaxy be inhabited again, like it used to be. Imagine all the traveling we could do, and all the homes that could be made. Homelessness might be a thing of the past at that point. That sounds… lovely, doesn't it?” Even as bubbly as she was, the squire was painfully aware repopulating the galaxy was no easy task. Chaos had to be put in its place first, which wouldn't be easy.

“Maybe it was a tourist spot. It's weird to think of it like that but I suppose it's always possible!” After all, no one really lived on Mount Everest or any of the inactive volcanoes on earth that she was aware of. Her mountain may have been some kind of monument or national park or something. “Hmm… I know I should go. I should have gone a long time ago but… I was scared. I'm still kind of scared, Miss Delphi. But…”

She steeled her nerves then. Princess Polaris wouldn't be proud of her if she couldn't even get to her Wonder. As a Squire! Sutai had a duty to perform. The squire balled her hands into fists. “But… I promise! To you, Miss Delphi, since the Princess isn't here, I'll get to the top of the mountain! Just… when I can bring you here, instead of the other way around. I need to prepare climbing gear…”

With a huff, what little fierceness Sutai could muster was gone. “...and snacks too, of course.”

Quote:
“It would certainly help...and it would mean more land to grow things on as well - and potentially different things.” Though testing out things to see what was edible, and not poisonous, could be an issue. Plus if they found new types of toxins which were discovered by accident...there was potentially some risks and issues but it would also be good - as Sutai said. Homelessness could be cured or at least lessened severely. She imagined they’d need some big policing system and other things...a one world government might help...if it was like an umbrella to smaller ones for each planet...followed by local governments and such - like they had now but on a bigger scale.

“The traveling would be nice. I do wonder if people from Earth can even live here. We can but perhaps it’s because we are knights and senshi?” Was there a difference? Would other people, normal people, be unable to survive?

“”I know. I think the first time we all come to our wonder’s or planets we are scared - or nervous. We don’t know what to expect...and that’s the thing. But we need to know - to find out the past.” Little bit by little bit...till they had a bigger picture. Then they could rebuild - together.

“I’ll get some gear as well for climbing. I will make sure I’m ready to come with you and help you up there. Together we’ll do it - Knights of Polaris.” For themselves, their wonders, and their absent princess...she really hoped she was ok.

“I’ll try and cook for the trip.” Laughing softly at the other she moved to ruffle her hair, smiling fondly at her. “You should really meet Hyperborea. I think you’d like her...and Whistler as well.” Though she didn’t know him well he was a knight of Polaris as well.

“I’ll see about arranging a meeting with at least Hyperborea - if you want.”

Quote:
Sutai giggled under Delphi’s attention. As much as such an ideal future would be lovely, the two knights of Polaris had to focus on what they could do in the present - cleaning the Wonder and preparing for the ascent up the mountain. She was frightened by the upcoming ordeal but knew with Delphi’s support, it could be done.

“Hyper-borea?” She blinked, looking up at the taller Squire. “Who is that? Are they a knight of Polaris too?” She did recognize Whisler though! “I met Mister Whisler once, he's blonde I think, right? It was a very long time ago. I hope he's doing well!”

All that being said, there was cleaning to do! With a salute, Sutai faced the taller Squire for instructions. “What else is there to do, Miss Delphi? We can prepare for the mountain when we get back to earth, but in the meantime, how can I help?” She was more than prepared to clean the complex top to bottom if need be, all in the name of helping both Delphi and the star.

Quote:
“Hyperborea is a Cosmos knight who has transcended. She’s young - terribly young…” She said softly, thinking of just how young the knight of Cosmos was. To think she was already a knight, not to mention transcended, it bothered her. The only good thing was the knight couldn’t be corrupted. But she was so terribly young. Delphi just wanted to keep her safe.

“Yes and he seems to be doing well. He is a knight now.” She answered. “We’ve teamed up, the three of us and a knight of Saturn as well.” She would have to introduce Sutai to them, she had a feeling she would like Hyperborea at the very least. The little knight was very likeable, almost impossible to not like if you asked Delphi.

“We can work on some light cleaning in the other library. It’s on the other side of the court building. This was on the left side of the central building...the other library was on the right side. It was a bit of a walk but it wasn’t too bad...though it would be cold during the walk over.

“We won’t stay long though - not today.” She wouldn’t ask that of the other, not today. “We can go get some cleaning done before we head back to Destiny City.” And then they’d both prepare, separately, for the climb of Sutai’s wonder. That said she made to lead the way from this library to the other one. Shutting the doors to this one behind them both.
