Mel had been touching his stomach since he left the Labs, heading back to where he agreed to meet with Jordan after they searched around for clues and supplies. Chips and Granola hadn't lasted long, but now he could come back with better news.
"He said it was a nice house with a white fence." He said, walking down the broken, destroyed town.
He had found Jordan and explained he met another kid who had a safe home for them with food. It would be good to be with other kids especially if they had more food and places to hide out.
"This place looks like they bombed it." The buildings around them were smashed, crumbled, and many were being overgrown. It wasn't hard to spot the house among the debris and destruction.
Pushing open the gate, he walked up t the door and knocked. "Larry?! It's me, Mel!"

Jordan followed along, kicking a small chunk of brick in front of him as he walked. If he kicked it just right with the toe of the too-large sneaker, it would skitter out in front of him without hurting his toes at all, and he was making it a challenge for himself. "Maybe it did get bombed," he said. "Maybe there was, like, an invasion."
He hung back a little behind Mel as Mel knocked on the door, not quite wary. He hadn't found much useful, and Mel had made another friend in the time they'd been split up.

Larry answered storm door the door when he heard Melvin's voice behind it, unlatching lots of chains and locks in order to swing it open and then opening the storm door to the other two boys. Inside the house was clean, pristine and expensive.
"Uh I think you need to take your shoes off here." he said. "There's a lot of light carpets and wood floors. It's nice though!"
He gave Jordan a big smile. "Hey Melvin's friend. I'm Larry!"

There was another boy behind Larry, with red hair, big, sad eyes and in spite of the weather, a light and shimmering scarf that hid his neck. Strangely, unlike everyone else, his clothes fit him as if they had been tailored, although the clothes too had a strange and shimmery quality.
He did not say hello, only looked nervously out beyond them, as though waiting for something horrible to appear.

"Hi! This is my friend Jordan. I told him about your place." He turned to Jordan. "This is Larry, the kid I met in the Infirmary."
"Um...Hi. Who's your friend?" He asked, looking over at the kid hiding behind him. .

"Hi," Jordan said, and produced a practiced, friendly smile. "It's nice to meet you." His eyes flickered to the other kid, and he smiled at him, too.
Oh, this was that kind of house. He toed his shoes off and picked them up. "Where do I put my shoes?"

"This is Rodney." he said proudly as if introducing a really neat toy. "He's a bit shy. Nice to meet you Jordan. This house is safe I think, it's got lots of food stored away if you don't mind weird stuff like vegetables and things. Lots of rooms too, there are two other boys who live here, Mik and Malkam, but they are out a lot. I think we are safer with more of us."
Nodding to a tidy little shoe rack, he replied to Jordan "I think that's where they go."

Rodney hid his face as his name was repeated, but finally drew his eyes from outside, and to the two coming into the house.
Every time Larry had ventured outside the house, he'd brought back nothing but tales of horror. Rodney hadn't left since they'd woken up there, and he worried about the other two.
After looking over both of them, he whispered something to Larry.

"Hi Rodney." He said to the hidden kid. The way he acted reminded him of a little kid.
Taking off his shoes too, he set them neatly on the rack and looked around. "This place is huge."
As distracted as he was, he noticed Rodney whispering to Larry and Melvin moved closer to Jordan, feeling that it was probably best to be near his friend. Even though he felt better in a house with other boys, he still felt like an outsider to the other two while Jordan was part of his team.

Jordan likewise put his shoes on the rack and looked around. It was big and spare and clean and sort of reminded him of Uncle Brian's house, with that feeling like you couldn't touch anything for fear of making something messy. Was this really where Larry lived? "It's nice," he said.
He stayed next to Mel, not sure what Rodney was whispering about and feeling like an outsider. Mel was at least familiar, not so much a stranger, even if they hadn't known each other that long. "Do you, um, is this where you woke up?" he asked. The thing about being older probably meant that this was actually Larry's house if that was the case. It occurred to him, very belatedly, that that also probably meant that the room where he'd woken up first was either his or Mel's, but he didn't really remember where it was now and anyway maybe Larry was right about it being safer with more people.

Lawrence shrugged at Rodney. "I dunno." he said. "Have you guys ever been to the beach yet? I haven't." It seemed like the quieter boy used him as a way to speak to other people and Larry didn't seem too bothered by this arrangement.
"And yeah its really really big, it's got downstairs rooms, rooms here, rooms up there, and a loft! It's dead big, like a mansion!" He'd grown up in a small house, sharing a room with his much older brother Leif who blamed him constantly for being unable to bring girls back home and for being underfoot, this was so, so much better.
"It has lots of the weird future technology stuff too, Mikael got a tv working and there are movies and things."
He nodded. "I woke up here with Rodney." he didn't think anything of it. "In the same bed, with no clothes. Dead weird. But it was lucky cause its so nice."

Rodney came out from hiding to briefly help with the shoe rack.
He also closed the door softly behind the other two.
They were probably hungry more than anything else. He had read on Larry's phone that everyone was having trouble finding something to eat. There was no telling how long they would be here, and what they'd do when the food they had ran out, but he didn't want anyone going hungry.
He waited curiously for the beach answer.

"Jordan and I have been all over. We went through the jungle and th beach. I've been to the infirmary, and we were at the dorms.....together when we woke up." Which had him wondering for a while. There had been a lot of strange talk on twitter about future selves, and he wasn't sure what it all meant.
There were also some guys saying a few things that made him feel uncomfortable.
While he wanted to mention the tree house, he still wanted a secret place where he and Jordan could go just in case things didn't work out here. After being with Larry, he was left with an uneasy feeling around him.
"Do you....like the beach?"

"The beach is cool. It's all wild like people don't go there, there's no boats or even piers or anything," Jordan said. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, feeling sort of awkward. "Uh. What movies are there?" Maybe it would feel less awkward if they watched a movie or something. It would give them something to talk about.
He slid a sideways glance at Mel as the other boy failed to mention the treehouse. Had he done that on purpose? It was kind of a relief that it was still a place that they could go if this got too weird.

Rodney nodded at the question Do You Like the Beach, looked at the window, slightly cheered, whispered something again.
