Life was getting even more complicated, not that Lorek really minded all that much. There were three new siblings for him to love, but it also made things kind of hectic at home. He loved his new siblings, but he wasn't entirely sure where that left him. He had always been so used to being the youngest, he was used to it just being the three of them, and now that there were seven... things were getting to be too much. Tambre was spending a lot more time with them than she had available to spend with him, not that he blamed her, but it really did suck sometimes.

Meliae was enjoying her time outside. Recess was always one of her favorite times of the day because she got to meet other people she didn't know. Of course, she could meet others during class, but it was always easier to approach people when they weren't trying to learn things. She met most of the people she knew by just approaching them and saying hi. So when she saw a demon sitting by himself under a tree she knew she had to say hello. "Hi! I hope I'm not disturbing you, I just saw you out here alone. I'm Meliae." She reached her hand out in a friendly gesture.

Lorek nearly jumped when he heard the voice. Up until now, he didn't notice the other Freshling's approach, he was too deep in his thoughts. He had been taken completely back by the Dryad, causing him to try to clear his throat before he could speak. "Umm.... Hello. I'm Lorek..." His voice was still a little shaky from having been startled. He wasn't used to other people approaching him, especially out of the blue like this. Most other kids avoided him because he was still really awkward in social situations, not that he could blame them very much, he probably wouldn't be very good with someone as quiet as he was too.

She gave a small smile, glad that he hadn't turned her away when he seemed so surprised she was there. Had he really been so ignored by all the other kids? She couldn't help but wonder why even though she knew it was none of her business. "It's nice to meet you, Lorek." She said in her sing-song voice, though she kept it calm so that she wouldn't startle him again. "Do you mind if I sit next to you?" She looked up at the tree as a couple of orange leaves fell toward the ground in response. "This tree is rather lovely. It has to be one of my favorites on the school grounds!" As true as it was, she was hoping some small talk would help calm him down a little.

Lorek tilted his head up to look at the tree as she mentioned it. He guessed he had never really thought about which tree was the prettiest, but she was right, it was really pretty, especially this late into the Fall. "Yeah... I guess... you can sit here." He didn't mean it in any negative term, he just was really shy around people and it was hard to talk to them even when they were being friendly. "The tree is pretty." He stated idly to her conversation starter. "I think this is one of my favorite spots to read." He wasn't really sure why he told her that, but he guessed he should at least try to join the conversation.

Meliae smoothed out her shorts before sitting down next to the boy. She felt some twigs and things, but she felt much more at ease being this close to the ground. "Trees are so quiet and beautiful, they offer so much if you just listen..." She grinned, her head tilting to one side as she watched him. She did love spending time in nature and singing to the trees, though she was a Dryad after all, she wasn't sure that many of the other races understood their connection to the earth. "What are you reading, if I may ask?" She felt a soft breeze blow by, ruffling her hair into her face.

Lorek felt both of his cheeks flush when she asked that question. Whenever he talked about the things he was interested in, most of the other kids called him names. He guessed that's just what people did when they felt threatened, but he couldn't help but feel strange for it. He gently lifted the book, showing her the cover that was filled with numbers and symbols. "It's a book on Mathematical equations." He hoped she wouldn't laugh at him, a lot of other Freshlings in their class already did. He knew he was weird for a kid, preferring to do intellectual things than play.

Meliae wasn't sure what she was expecting, but it certainly wasn't that! Most people read books about fiction, worlds and things that the authors made up for entertainment. This kid was definitely different, but that thought actually made her smile. "That's great! I can't say I'm good at math, but if you're reading something like that than you must be really smart!" She vibrated happiness and intrigue into it. Even as she looked at the cover she really wasn't sure what the equations meant, but it was really cool that he did. She had always wanted to be smart, and she couldn't say that she did that badly at school, but that was far beyond her own capabilities.

Lorek blinked at her response. Maybe talking to other people wasn't always that bad? It was the first time that someone other than his family met him with enthusiasm over his hobbies. "I.... really? You don't mind that I like math?" He actually smiled. That was the first time in a long time that he had actually done so when talking to another kid. "I could teach you a little, if you'd like?" He flipped open the book, to one of the easier problems, scanning it over to make sure it wasn't too hard, though he had long learned that not too hard for him had no bearing on other people.

Meliae actually giggled, it was a soft and whimsical thing like the rest of her was. She was so happy to see this boy who had previously been so solemn and quiet actually light up. She was so glad that she could be apart of that. "I would love for you to teach me! Though I don't promise that I'm going to understand everything right away." Even though she said that she generally picked up things rather quickly. She was more than happy to spend the rest of recess talking to the boy and learning things about math that she never knew before. Perhaps this was the start of a long friendship, she could hope at least.
