Truth be told, Newgrange wasn't sure why it had happened, just a few nights ago. He had been out on patrol--not even a very interesting patrol--when he'd found himself suddenly brimming with power. It wasn't in a battle. He wasn't even sure he'd had some great epiphany. He had made a resolution, earlier in the day--and perhaps he was feeling a bit more confident in himself--and then, there it was.
Different gloves. Nothing particularly exciting, but what they represented meant everything to him.
It meant he was a Knight of Newgrange. Supposed to be top tier, generally understood to the be the strongest rank one should hope to achieve in their lifetime.
And yet, he felt more distanced from his Wonder than ever.
It was enough to finally motivate him.
He'd been thinking about it for months, talking to himself and others about what he needed to do on his Wonder, how he could appeal to his Ancestor. He was trying to respect his space while still serving Newgrange--a difficult task to do. It was understandable, then, that he was met with very limited success.
Newgrange understood that things needed to change.
He'd sucked it up, then.
He didn't know what type of offering he might bring to soothe the tension his ancestor held, but he still had the Stall Plate bearing an emblem he'd seen at his Wonder. He didn't know its significance, but he knew it would be better on Newgrange than it would be on Earth, or stashed away in subspace, waiting for a use.
Newgrange didn't intend to be gone for long, perhaps a few hours at most. He doubted his ancestor would allow for much more than that. For now, at least.
While he was hopeful, worry constantly nagged at him, and dread rolled over him.
He sucked in one last breath before he focused his mind and recited, "I pledge my life and loyalty to Earth, and to Newgrange. I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine."
Warmth flooded through him--and suddenly, he was gone.
