Waiting behind the drug store on 5th, Cinnabar leaned comfortably against it’s dirty back wall and flipped through the little folder she had in her hands, rifling pages she already knew the contents of. Mostly, it was to make sure she had everything, but part of it was boredom.

Today’s target was a senshi who’d gone missing a couple of months ago. All contact to anyone had cut off, but no one had listed her as dead. Maybe she was taking a break, maybe she was hiding. Maybe she had purified, who knew? But that’s why she was here, and why she’d appropriated help from the ranks in the form of a super corrupt. Not one she’d met before, but unless he made it a problem, she had none with that. There was some advantage to him, over her own subordinates… chiefly in that, if she lost control around him, she wasn’t really losing anything they’d had. Not that she wanted to, or planned to… but the blackout spells were getting worryingly frequent, and set off by relatively mild stimuli.

It was troubling, but what could she do about it? Chalcopyrite had failed to turn up anything as to why it was happening, or how to fix it.

Shifting restlessly from one foot to the other, she crossed her long legs at the ankle and tried to relax. It didn’t stop her tail from swinging behind her, flicking irritably to betray her mental state. Damn thing, always telegraphing her emotions… she had yet to master it enough to stop that habit. Reaching into her pocket, she retrieved a glowing purple startseed and crunched it between her fangs, letting the head rush of life force sooth the ache of hunger and revitalize her. The soothing rush calmed her and her flicking stopped, settling into a lazy sway. Content, she settled to rereading her gathered information, eyes skimming over a thorough description she’d gotten from one of the girl’s former captains.

Curiosity and a desire to impress prodded at Haumea as he teleported to where he'd been told the General who'd requested him would be waiting. While he'd had brief encounters before with such officers, they'd been fleeting. And he'd been in the midst of a group. This would be working directly with a General and he was eager to prove his ability and loyalty.

When he got to the place, he could see a figure waiting and he hurried forward.

"I beg your pardon, General," he began to apologize, only to pause and stare a little as she came better into view. How... intriguing! "I... I apologize if I am late."

Moving closer, he fought against the desire to keep staring. Or worse, to reach out to gently touch those scales. He'd never met one of the half-youma officers before, though he'd heard about them. Had he ever seen them even fleetingly before? He didn't think so. So this lady was something of a delightful shock. A different example of Metallia's grace. Fascinating.

Realizing that he was veering directly into rudeness, Haumea shook himself and snapped to attention. Bowing, he introduced himself, "My apologies, General, I forgot myself. I am Haumea, senshi of Plumeria. How may I serve?"

The flicker of a corrupt signature into existence pulled Cinnabar's attention from her papers and she raised black-red eyes to watch lazily as the other approached. It didn't seem needful to rise for him or step forward to close the distance, she was a superior officer after all, so she waited and watched, gauging his reaction on first meeting.

What she saw was... unexpected, but not unpleasant. He seemed surprised, which she noted. He obviously had not heard of her before, if seeing a half-youma surprised him. He also hadn't done any research into the database where she was listed, or he might have known what to expect. What surprised her, in a mild way, was the... fascination that seemed to cross his face, settling into those citrus eyes. He wasn't repulsed, oddly enough, or wary. He seemed to like what he saw, and that at least, Cinnabar could work with.

A dark eyebrow arched as he seemed to come back to himself and a little smirking smile greeted his apology. Pushing away from the wall, Cinnabar straightened up to her six-foot-four-in-heels and flipped her folder shut, bracing a hand on her hip. She gave him a once over in turn, her tail sweeping back and forth.

"Not precisely late, Haumea." She said as she stepped forward, heels clicking on the pavement. The hand on her hip dropped and she offered it to him, her claws carefully retracted. "You can call me Cinnabar. As for what I called you for..."

She wiggled the folder to make the papers rustle, before she offered that too. "I need your help to find the woman in this file. She used to be an officer, but I suspect she's purified. Her attendance has fallen off and her quota has lagged. If she hasn't purified, she's been shirking her duties and that isn't acceptable either."

Oh! She had a tail as well! Haumea felt almost as if it were Christmas morning. Clearly, he'd been far too wrapped up in his own business if officers like this existed. And his staring hadn't horribly offended her. Even better!

Taking her hand with a sheepish expression, Haumea noted the retracted claws and nearly did a dance of glee right then and there. There were so many things he would have liked to ask her. Perhaps, if he did well enough, she'd allow him the opportunity.

"Yes, Gen... ah. Cinnabar," he corrected himself. Yet another difference between her and the officers he'd met before. Most had insisted on being referred to by title. How... refreshing.

Pulling his attention to the folder she rustled before offering, he frowned and accepted it, skimming the papers inside as Cinnabar explained their errand. By the time she'd finished speaking, Haumea's eyes and voice were wrapped in cold menace.

"I see. Then, she must be shown the error of her ways. What do you wish me to do? How do we flush out our little rabbit?"

The thought of flushing prey brought one of those beautiful, wonderful memories to the fore of his mind. Yes, he'd done things like this then. Hunting down and punishing those who foolishly thought to forsake Metallia. He'd enjoyed the hunt so much. How lovely of Cinnabar to recruit him for this.

She watched the corrupt with amusement in her black-red eyes, but she didn’t comment on his seeming delight. It was an oddity, but now wasn’t the time to entertain it. Maybe another time and place.

A smile hovered over her lips as she shook his hand and released him, letting him view the contents of the folder at his own pace. She affected patience, her hands tucked into her coat pockets, but there was still a restlessness to the flick of her tail and the way she played with whatever was in the bottom of those pockets. His manner changed quickly from joy to anger and her smile only deepened till fangs showed, sharp and threatening.

A man of a similar mind… Good.

“We have to find her first. And not by running all over the city hoping to run into her.” She said as she reached out to tap the folder with a thick fingertip. “We do it by taking what we know of her, and going back over the life she left behind. Friends. Family. Places she used to frequent. I find a lot of people can’t resist the urge to keep watch over the people they once cared about, and if we can catch her returning, we can use them to draw her in. Its a bit of a heavy handed system, and often relies on a lot of surveillance and a little luck, but its not just about catching our rabbit.”

Her hand lifted and her fingers curled, claws extending in a way that was full of deadly promise.

“Its about more than that though… there have been too many who have abandoned their post without punishment, thinking once they’ve purified, they’re free and clear. This is about showing possible defectors that its not just them that will be punished for their traitorous acts. We are making the cost too heavy, and with it, closing the slowly bleeding wound that is purification.” Fingers released and dropped and Cinnabar tucked them into her pockets again, a measure of relaxation returning. “You can power down for extended periods, where I can’t, leaving me continuously putting out a power signature to alert our enemies. I need you to canvas the areas listed and investigate the people we know about. We need signs of her. If we run into her personally, all the better and perhaps we can wrap this up in shorter order, but we’ll see.”

“Think you’re up for it?”

The predatory gleam in Haumea's tangerine eyes said that he was more than up for this. This had been something he'd excelled at in those tantalizing dreams, visions, whatever you wanted to call them. As he continued to scan the file, he took note of the threat and promise in Cinnabar's words and nodded approval.

"The light of the sunrise will touch their blood and the flowers and become a work of art," he murmured, momentarily lost within those so-pleasing memories. A heartbeat passed and Haumea shook himself from his reverie. Glancing up at Cinnabar, he flashed a charming smile, though there was the barest hint of distaste at the mere idea of powering down and becoming lesser. However needful it might be.

"You're right, of course," he replied. "I'll cause much less of a stir in these neighborhoods than you would. Even if you were stripped of the marks Metallia has graced you with, I'm afraid you'd frighten by sheer power of personality."

He gave Cinnabar a bow full of respect and then with a smile, powered down. If he was going to be doing this for her, he suspected, it would be smart to let her know what he was when he wasn't Haumea. It might spare him being torn to shreds by youma by mistake.

"I'm quite eager to get started," he said, throwing a crisp salute at the half youma General. "In fact, I'll begin now. I see that our little bird has several acquaintances in the area. I'll go investigate them immediately."

Smiling and bowing slightly at the waist, Kekipi took his leave of the General, determined to make a good showing and hopefully impress her.

There was something oddly predatory about the young man as he considered the file. Not bad, because Cinnabar was nothing if not predatory herself, but there was a… fanaticism to it, the way he spoke of blood, flowers and works of art. She could appreciate the devotion to the cause, the loyalty, but his obvious distaste for powering down was a mark, in her mind, of someone who had gone just a little too far..

But maybe it was different, for someone who could still power down. She had lost that ability a long time ago, and from her standpoint… being forever powered was not as glamourous as it sounded. There were things you couldn’t do, people you couldn’t be with, and the Negaverse dominated everything, to the point you lost something of yourself to it. She eyed the senshi as she smiled, pleased, but also reserved. She wanted to keep every scrap of herself she could, and fiercely defended that. Not even Metallia could command, or should in her opinion, so much of her soldiers.

She lifted her head at his comment, her smile shifting to more of a smirk at what was undoubtedly a bit of a flirtatious compliment. ‘Power of personality’. He dropped his transformation and she eyed the result with interest, the man that stood revealed. Not so different, but very different at the same time. Softer in appearance, maybe, but the fanatical gleam was still there.

“Good luck, Haumea. Thank you, again, for your help in this. Call me, when you’ve made your rounds, and we’ll discuss what you’ve found.” She said, watching as her new helper left.
