With his decision finally made to take a step back from the group of warriors for a bit, with permission from his father of course, Rhag’na was looking into a mount for himself. He didn’t mind traveling by foot but he didn’t want to be carrying all of his gear with him across the world. That was too much of a pain for him.
So out he’d gone looking for some local beast tamers or riders who might be selling something he was interested in. So far he hadn’t found much. He didn’t like Mammu’s the giant furry things were just… No, he did not find them pleasant. He wasn’t a rider but he would expect his mount to be somewhat agile. He’d even contemplated the idea of finding something outside of Zena but that idea also didn’t appeal to him. He wanted something that could fight too, and a Mammu just wasn’t going to cut it for him.
While he was contemplating the thought, he bumped into an ice woman. “Sorry miss,” he said before turning his gaze on her familiar. “What is that?” He said pointing to the reptile.

Serana was roaming the streets with Iska, minding her own business. She wondered what to get for lunch. As she was debating in her own head, Iska grunted. "Well, of course you want carrots. I'm wondering what I should-" She was cut off by a stranger bumping into her. "Oh, sorry! It's not your fault, I wasn't looking where I was going." She laughed nervously as she patted Iska's head to calm him down and stop his growling. She blinked at the stranger's question, not realizing at first that he was referring to her Janarim. "What, Iska?" She was almost defensive of her friend, standing in front of him. She was still on guard for people working with her parents. How do I know he isn't one of them? Her mind rushing, she gripped her spear, but made no sudden moves. "Why do you want to know?" Her gaze narrowed, as she gave the stranger a cold stare.

“That’s an Iska?” He observed the creature and found it odd, he was expecting… Well he didn’t really what he’d been expecting. “Well I’d like to get one for my travels.” The notion seemed obvious to him, why else would he ask such a thing of a stranger? “I’m not trying to steal her, he, it…?” Was that why the woman was so edgy with him? She thought he was going to steal her mount? Rhag’na would do no such thing, there was no honor in stealing and as the saying went “no honor among thieves either”.
“So may I know where you got one?” Hopefully she was reassured enough that she’d tell him. “And if you could give me some information on this Iska species as a whole, it would be highly appreciated. I need to seek out all possibilities before I make a choice for the best.” He wanted to make it clear he was seeking information for a specific purpose and not something else.

Suddenly, Serana's mood shifted from on guard to aloof. When the boy referred to Iska's species as a whole as his name, she laughed. Hard. She laughed so hard she cried. Iska cocked his head, obviously confused and groaned. He actually never saw her laugh that hard, and it worried him. He brushed her shoulder with his head and Serana came down from her laughter. She wiped her eyes and sighed. "Ah, haha, I'm-I'm sorry. I just-" She inhaled, "I needed that laugh." She gathered her composure and bowed slightly to the stranger. "I'm sorry if I came off rude. I thought... You may have been someone else. As for him..." She gestured to Iska, "His name is Iska. His species is known as a 'Janarim'." She looked around forgetting where exactly she was in town, then gestured to a nearby food place. "If you'd like we can sit and eat together, and I can tell you all about Janarim, or at least, what I know from being a companion with this guy." She made sure to sound as polite as possible, as a way of sounding apologetic for her rudeness earlier.

Rhag’na’s eyes narrowed slightly at the woman, his lips thinned out into a thin line. What was funny? Had he said something funny? He didn’t think so; he felt he’d been pretty straight forward… Was she crazy? Rhag’na was no longer sure he wanted to know what her thoughts were in general now. What if she really was crazy and gave him bad advice… Now the ice man was not so sure anymore. Maybe he ought just to excuse himself and…
He turned to look in the direction of the food stall and then back at her. He wasn’t exactly comfortable with the idea of having food with a stranger and even less a woman he didn’t know. What if the other guys saw him and thought he was slacking and on a date? Still, he needed the information. Rhag’na straightened himself out and gave her a curt nod. “Alright then.” Without waiting for her he moved towards the food stall, there were a couple of chairs near-by still empty and he eyed them before eyeing the menu. He was used to not much from the men back at home so he turned a bit, “You can go first.” He’d probably take whatever she took and it was only polite to let the woman go first.

"My, my," She said while doing a curtsy. "What a gentleman." She sat down in one of the seats as Iska sat down next to her, took a quick glance at the menu, and put it down. I mean I already know what I want... Serana looked around for the server and when she saw one, waved to the ice girl. She had seen her before at another food stall. "Ah, Ferrah, you work here too?" "Yes, I must. Father is sick again, and I need the money for his medicine." The girl replied. "Oh, do you need me to come over and take a look at him again? I don't mind..." Serana gestured to the boy sitting with him. "After, we finish talking of course." The girl happily nodded, "Oh, thank you, Serana! Now, what can I get for you two?" "I'll have a potato and meat stew with some carrots on the side." "Alright, and for you, sir?" the girl asked the boy.

Rhag’na’s brows furrowed deeply when she called him a gentlemen. That was one word he didn’t care for. If any of the other swordsmen saw him now, oh how they would laugh. Rhag’na the gentlemen, he knew they’d tease him endlessly. He did not reply to it but settled in and glanced around instead, giving a brief nod to the waitress and then ignoring their small talk before she finally turned to him to ask him what he wanted.
“I’ll take the same.” That sounded alright to him. Once the waitress was gone, Rhag’na folded his arms and leaned back in the chair. “So, tell me everything you know. I want to know it all, don’t leave any details. I need the best mount I can possibly find.”

Serana blinked a few times. "Well, someone's in a bit of a rush." She chuckled. "Alright, alright." She put a finger on her lips, wondering where exactly she should start. Their temperament would be a good place to start I suppose... "Ah, well I should give you a fair warning about Janarim; They are not exactly a species to be handled with lightly..." Iska was intently listening, and puffed out his chest, knowing exactly what sentence was coming next. serana gestured towards Iska, "You see, Janarim are a very proud race, and they can even be a bit... harsh at times. They are not trusting of anyone at first, and are definitely difficult to tame." At that moment, Iska grunted and huffed in agreement, making Serana chuckle. "Of course, once you get past their rough exterior, earn their trust, and bond with them, they can be as goofy and cute as a Perzi... Isn't that right, Iska?" She said as she pet his chin and rubbed her face on his as he groaned. Iska was pretty much saying Mom, stop, you're embarrassing me...Serana cleared her throat and turned back to the ice boy. "Erm. Anyway, as I said before, they aren't easy to become friends with, but they are definitely a loyal species. I suppose they would be the type to be loyal until death, but I haven't exactly witnessed it..." She trailed off. "Also, you may have to travel far to get one..." She said as their server came back with their food.

“Just straight to the point…” He wasn’t one for small talk, he thought it was normal but she seemed to not think so. All the men from the group never said a word on how he talked. Maybe he’d have to find another stranger and see if he was being rude or something.
Not to be handled lightly… proud…harsh… not trusting…difficult to tame…loyal. “That sounds exactly like the kind of familiar I would get.” Proud and loyal were the most important, difficult was no problem. He would make sure he put in the time to get through things. He didn’t shy away from hard work after all, it was just part of it.
“Where can I get one?” Far, what was far? He’d never travelled out of Zena. He didn’t know if he was super comfortable with that idea either and if he’d be able to get leave to go.

She thanked the server and gave her some coins as payment, and a few extra for her troubles. Serana sighed, remembering everything she went through with Iska. Twice he had been on the verge of death, and even though it only strengthened their relationship, she still hated the fact that he was even in that kind of danger in the first place. "Well, there are two obstacles you must overcome in order to get one, three if you count the whole bonding thing." She paused to eat a spoonful of stew and to give Iska one of the carrots. She continued, "The first is travel. Janarim are native to Oba. That obstacle includes getting over the heat, and natural dangers of travelling. The other..." She shoved another spoonful of soup in her mouth and chewed on the meat chunk as Iska gnawed on the carrot he was given. Boy, did she love soups. Perhaps she would make the art of soup making one of her hobbies in the future... "The other obstacle puts your companion in danger..." She looked rather sad when she said this, for she knew all too well the reason Iska almost died the first time. "Well, that is if you were to come back to Zena with it... If you don't, then it really isn't anything to think about. You see, Janarim are fierce warriors, but any warrior can fall victim to nature. They are used to the harsh hot climate of Oba. If you bring one here to Zena, well, it could very well die... The transition from hot to cold weather could make them sick, almost certainly, feverish, and without the proper care, they can easily pass on..."

Rhag’na also handed the waitress her coins and dug right into the stew. It wasn’t bad at all, much better than what he’d ever had back at camp. None of the men were exceptional cooks and they didn’t have any woman to add that touch of finesse to their food either.
“Three obstacles… I think I can manage that,” he said between mouthfuls. That didn’t seem so hard right? The only problem he saw here was the bonding part; he didn’t know what in the world bonding with a familiar even was. But she seemed to know since she’d obviously been successful so he was going to keep that question in mind. Her next words though did make him freeze, spoon half way up to his mouth as he looked from her to Iska.
“Well, then I don’t think this will work… I am part of the Brotherhood,” he grabbed onto his shirt collar and pulled it down to reveal the tattoo he’d gotten when he had chosen his class. “I am sworn to protect Zena.” But Iska was here alive, so maybe there was a possibility. “How did you get Iska here? Did you find a merchant perhaps?”

Serana ate a few more spoonfuls before answering. She almost didn't want to answer. "Well, yes and no." She looked at Iska to make sure he was finished with one of his carrots before giving him another. "Sorry, Iska, but," She said to him before turning back to the boy, "I wasn't exactly looking for a familiar when I went to the market that day, but the merchant did have him at the time. After he brought the Janarim to Zena, he'd gotten sick almost immediately. There was no time for him to adjust, and he wasn't introduced to the cold climate slowly, but instead he was thrust into it." She paused for another spoonful, wishing that she wasn't almost running out. "Anyway, I met the merchant in time to treat him with a few herbs, and Iska never left my side ever since." She put her spoon down and looked at the boy with pleading eyes. "Please, if you do end up getting a Janarim, be careful with him." She finished off her soup before continuing. "If you wish your familiar to be true and loyal with you, then you must be true and loyal to them too. They are more than animals, they are our friends." She pet Iska with that closing statement. Although, speaking of friends, that reminds me..."You said you were with the brotherhood? Do you know Tryston by any chance? He was a friend of mine before his travelling days... I think he mentioned the brotherhood before."

Even Rhag’na could see how very wrong he merchant had been, why would he be so hasty and risk killing his familiar? No Rhag’na would not be so careless especially if it sounded like he was going to be investing so much emotionally into a Janarim. He still didn’t know if he was going to get one or not, but the information the woman was providing was good.
“I wouldn’t invest so much only to have a Janarim die on me,” he said at first between a few spoonfuls until his meal was completely finished. “And I haven’t decided if I’m going to get one yet either. I will keep your words in mind.”
When she mentioned Tryston, Rhag’na faltered a bit. He obviously couldn’t tell her Tryston was alive, that was dangerous in case the information got back to the brotherhood. So, he gave her a stone face and cleared his throat. “Tryston is dead.” He pushed the empty food bowl and sat back. There was no way to say such things smoothly.

"D-dead..?" The news hit her hard. Besides Iska, she really didn't have anyone close to her anymore. Her sadness brought tears to her eyes as she tried to not start sobbing. The news did not go over well with her, but it was something she figured she would have to deal with, just like her whole family situation. "Is there no peace in this world?" She wiped her eyes, and held back more tears, her cheeks and ears showing a shade of purple. She sighed and leaned back in her chair. I suppose it would do no harm in asking how boldly he went. "How-" She hesitated. Was this really going to do her any good? Knowing wouldn't bring her friend back from the dead, but her curiosity was as loud as shouting in a library. "How did he die?" She pursed her lips, waiting for an answer.

The woman looked like she was about to cry, Rhag’na looked away to distract himself feeling awkward. Did he pat her on the back? Did he offer his condolences? He didn’t know her relationship with Tryston and didn’t know how to properly act. He just felt very awkward and hoped she would not burst into tears while they were sitting here surrounded by people. That would just be embarrassing. When she asked her question he finally turned back but avoided eye contact to avoid seeing the tears and the colors in her face.
“He was on a mission and was taken by a snowfall from the mountain I believe.” But he knew the truth, that wasn’t exactly what had taken him over the edge and he hide his anger behind a stoney face. “I am sorry,” he finally said while running a hand through his hair. “Did you know Tryston well?” He was curious to know how much this woman knew, especially if she was one of Trystons friends. Perhaps he would let his brother know he had met her. “And what is your name?”
