This was utter bullshit! For the third time in the last fifteen minutes, the smart phone that Reven was trying to extract from the open purse resting beneath a park bench slipped from her grip and disappeared back into the depths within. It had the dainty white cat biting off a series of furious expletives, the fur along her spine and running the length of her tail standing on end. What she needed--what she would have traded a great deal for--were opposable thumbs. Now that would have been helpful. Not just for this specifically, but for, like, everything. Eating, opening doors, playing games... The cat let out a low, barely restrained growl before letting out a resigned huff, her tail swiping around to curl around dainty toes as she stared down at the purse. The phone was proving far more difficult to pilfer than she had originally thought. Mainly because the screen was too slick for her teeth to get any sort of good purchase on. Of course, once she'd actually managed to steal it, it was a mystery how she was going to carry it around... Clearly Reven hadn't though this one through.

The weather was warm enough for Rory to ride her longboard, something she'd been anticipating since the snow had begun to melt and the promise of spring had begun to tempt her. For the first time in a while, the teenage was in a long shirt and jeans, worn chucks on her feet and a hoodie that was far too big for her that she'd swiped from Pasi or Axton, she couldn't remember which.
The park was bustling with more people than she would have liked, because it meant more weaving between strollers and runaway children and their chasing mothers, but she loved it all at the same time.
Seeing so many people out reminded her that there was more to life than school and chores and other things. Now this was what she fought to uphold.
As she boarded through the sidewalks and between bodies, she caught sight of a cat trying to dig through an unattended purse. Immediately, with the thoughts of Bob in her mind, she slowed to a halt and plucked her board off the ground and beelined it for the cat.
It was the star that gave it away and she sighed when she said, "you know there are better ways to get what you want."
Of course she had no idea what this cat wanted.

The foraging stopped immediately, and Reven backed her front end out of the purse, took a step back, and sat down. As the length of her tail swept around to cover her toes, she looked up at the one that had spoken, her expression somehow managing to convey innocence as well as a defiant challenge. "Oh?" The sarcasm was strong with this one. "Is that so?" She gave a derisive sniff as she looked the young lady over, from teal braids down to her worn Converse. Not impressed. "Do tell." Probably, she shouldn't have spoken so thoughtlessly. It had been completely reactionary, but incredibly rash. In hindsight she knew this, not that she'd admit to the lapse in judgement. Just because someone talked to her, that didn't mean they knew she could talk back. People talked to cats all the time, right? Right.

Rory's board went up to her hip, curse her shortness, and she leaned against it just enough as jade colored eyes observed the white cat who pulled themselves out of the bag and gave her a dirtier look that she'd ever received from an actual person. Unimpressed, the teen's expression fell flat and her lips pursed together.
At one point, a talking cat would have startled her, but Rory had learned and seen a lot within the last six months and this was the least of her worries. "Probably shouldn't try to see something you can't carry," she said flatly, hand pressing against her hip. It was unclear how long she had been watching the cat. "And you shouldn't steal." That was something that came out less sarcastic and more serious.
Stealing was not something that Rory approved of, regardless of reasoning. "Besides, what's a cat going to do with a touch screen they can't even open."

Reven sat rigidly, defiantly, and stared sourly up at the young lady as she was given fragments of what sounded an awful lot like lecturing. And at the end of it, or after as much as the cat was willing to sit through [o]gracously, she'd roll her eyes as she rose to her feet to take a small, challenging step closer. Voice dipping into levels of disdain that shouldn't have been possible. "I can do open it, it's a touch screen, I have toe pads." Reven held up s paw to wiggle said toe pads at the teen. "And who the ******** are you? The morality police?" She snorted, tail flicking dismissively. "Please. You're going to walk away, and I'll just go back to what I was doing. So how's about we skip the reprimanding, and just get on with it?"

Rory found it nearly laughable that this cat was sizing her up and posturing like the girl would back down. So, in response, the teenager crossed her arms over her chest and gave the cat a look that said watch it. "Pretty sure fingers and toe pads are pretty different."
Plus, Rory was pretty certain that touch screens were a bit more complicated than that. "Your 'fingers' look too fat to hit the buttons correctly."
She didn't know if that was actually true, but she did a good job of sounding like she knew what she was talking about. "Kitty's got a language problem," she snapped, reaching her ending point a lot quicker than she would have normally and she blamed it on how her muscles still ached and how the bruises hadn't quite faded from her sessions with Obsidian.
Remembering all of those days of volunteering at the human society, Rory stomped forward and grabbed Reven by the scruff of her neck. "No, I don't think that's what's going to happen at all. Sorry to bust your bubble prissy cat."

The kitten gave a very loud, and very derisive snort before adopting a mocking tone that was meant to be an awful mimic of the teen's voice. "Pretty sure I didn't ask for your opinion.". And then she blew a raspberry before bringing up a paw to lick a bit of flawless fur back into place. Oh yeah, she was definitely lacking in manners. And forethought, apparently, because she wasn't expecting the girl to actually do anything, so when she reached out to snatch Reven by the scruff, it'd result in a string of furious curses and insults hissed through clenched teeth. White fur puffing out to make her look twice her normal, dainty size. "Put me down. Right. Now!" Because she was totally in a position to negotiate her own release. Totally.

Unfortunately for Reven, Rory was not the type of girl who backed down. She was flexible and terribly full of sass and wasn't going to sit back and let some smart-mouthed cat talk back to her.
"Sucks," she said dryly, a sharp edge of apathy staining her voice. She rarely got like this, but some how the cat managed to push her right over the edge. "And no, absolutely not. You're coming with me."
Carefully holding Reven so that she couldn't swipe at her, Rory flipped up her longboard and slid it under her arm for easier carrying. "I'm not leaving you to continue to try and rob someone." With that, the teen set off for her house where she could contain the cat a little better.
