Florence puttered about outside, carefully working the little section of garden that was his own. Dad had showed him the basics, how to pull out weeds and turn up the soil. How to plant seeds and make sure the ground was appropriately wet. Florence could always tell when a plant needed something, though he didn't always know what that something was. Practice eventually taught him, but there was still a lot to learn!
Larkspur came out to see what her owner was doing, buzzing around as Florence pulled out weeds and smoothed the dirt. As much as he loved frills and fancy things and dress up, he loved working in his garden. It was one of the few places he could sit still at and just feel super calm. Once he got all the weeds he stood up and checked to see what the overall look was. Florence loved making his garden look as pretty as possible. Larkspur buzzed around, enjoying his efforts and looking like a bit of a living flower with her pretty pinks.
Mom had said people did gardening for a living. She called it landscaping. Apparently people would pay for other people to come and make their gardens look pretty, the same way people paid Dad to make a pretty outfit out of cloth. That actually sounded super fun, though Florence wasn't sure how one went about getting such a job. Plus what happened to the garden afterwards? If people didn't know how to make their own garden, would they know how to look after it? And what if they wanted Florence to do something he thought would look weird, or put certain plants together that didn't flourish? Well he supposed if these people were hiring him he could always tell them why certain things would look better or wouldn't work, but would they listen?
There were other things he liked doing, of course. For example, Florence had no talent with making clothes but he was pretty good at determining what looked cute. He also threw quite a tea party, if he did say so himself. Could someone make a career with those things? He hadn't heard of any, but he could probably ask his parents. He also really liked playing with hair, and was just as good as Dad was! It was kinda funny to him sometimes, since Dad had such short hair and Mom had long hair, but Dad was the better of the two at doing cute things. But when it came down to it Florence liked doing cute stuff mostly as a hobby. He didn't feel that "urge" to mess with hair or clothes the way his dad did. He did sometimes get into flower beds and mess around though when he sensed a plant was unhappy.
So maybe that was his way to go. Gardener, landscaper. Maybe florist, cause people really loved flowers, or he could try to grow something special and do that. There were a ton of ways to arrange a garden, and like that Florence would find his way to decide what he wanted to do!
