The place was massive complete with a building full of apartments, and then this one. He had gone to it because of the alien language floating above the building and went to see what was going on. Aside from endless rooms ready for dissection and tanks of strange creatures, he soon found a room that captivated his attention even more.
After a while, he heard footsteps and opened the door to the pod room to peak out to see who was around, a broom stick in one hand.

There was a boy outside, a boy who stared in confusion at the broom. "Oi." he said, in a thick Manchester accent. "I'm in a bit of a mither mate, dunno where I am. What is this place?"
He looked more curious than afraid.

"Uh, don't know. I think we're being kidnapped for experimentation. Come here. You gotta check this out." He said, gesturing quickly for the other boy to follow him, glad he wasn't an secret service member or an alien.
Inside, the dim lights glowed blue as he stared out into the room and walked further in, pointing at a pod.
"They have people in status in here! They're frozen. Look at 'em." Instead of being afraid, the boy looked excited and mesmerized.
He wore baggy pants and a black hoodie with short, blonde hair that curled about his head. His glasses were over sized and tended to slip down his nose.

"Ere." he said, moving into the room. "It's like aliens! That's dead fancy, what even is this stuff?" It was amazing, like nothing he'd ever seen before. "Did we get abducted?"
Still, it was good to meet someone else, someone his own age. The people in the pods weren't his own age.
"I'm Larry." he said, as if remembering something he was taught to do when meeting people.

"Right?!" He said, glad that the other boy was right on his level on what he was thinking. "I haven't seen any other adults around. I'm thinking these guys are it or maybe they aren't? I don't know why they are sleeping and we aren't in them. Maybe they are getting too old. I don't know, but isn't it wicked?!" His hands pressed on the glass as he leaned on his tip-toes to look up into the glass.
"Probably. I don't remember how I got here so they must have drugged us to get us here."
"I'm Mel. Have you seen the other rooms. They got whole labs like - to cut up people and do experiments. And there are super weird animals in here too!" He leaned back and turned to the kid.
"Have you seen them?"

The boy seemed to have a sudden realisation about all this and looked a bit sick. "I just got out of the hospital." he said. "I don't want to go back. I don't want them to do science on us like in the movies. I get dead sick when they take me there and I won't go back for owt."
He shook his head vehemently. "I ain't seen the animals, but it all sounds dead scary, it's weird here." He looked upset. "I want to go home. I want my mam."

His smile soon faded and he moved closer to Larry. "It's okay. I don't want them to do that either. I haven't seen anyone either so I think we're okay right now. We just need to be careful, okay?" He held out his hand. "I found this. It's not a baseball bat but it's something in case something comes after us. So I'll watch your back and you watch mine, okay?"

Lawr took the offered hand with a smile, shaking it. "Okay mate, deal. We'll cover each other. No docs coming after us!" He looked very pleased at making his first friend. "We should explore, see if we can figure em out before they get us."

"Sure, and we need to get your something too so they don't come after you so look for something k?" He walked out, looking up and down the hallway before walking out.
"It's weird nobody is here. It's like they all left somewhere. I wonder where they are." He walked along the ground, bare feet hitting the tile.
"You see anyone?"

"I think there are still people here." he said, pointing at his strange phone. "People are talking in text on this thing. So there must be people out there, not many adults though from what I can see."
He looked concerned.
"I read a book once called Lord of the Flies. It was dead scary, I hope this isn't like that book. I didn't like it. People got hurt."

"Nah, I mean people people. I know kids aren't here. A kid named Jordan was with me, but no one else." He dug into his hoodie pocket for the phone. "If you know your phone number then we can talk if we ever get seperated."
"No, that won't happen. They were just some stranded kids starving without any brains. It's 2003. People like us aren't that stupid." And he swung the broom handle in front of him. "Anyone tries and I'll hit them."

"There was some dead weird kid in the house I woke up in." he said, not about to go into the strange situation he woke up in. He hadn't even had his pyjamas on. It was upsetting. "But I left to go find out where I am, it's really hot outside and everyone sounds weird. Are you American mate?" It was spoken like someone who had only ever seen people from America on strange television shows which mostly focused on how odd they all were as a lot. "I like country westerns. I watch them all the time with my brothers and my old man. I'd love to be a cowboy! I have a hat and everything, do you have a hat?"
Melvin didn't look like he had a hat.
Looking blankly at the other boy he looked confused. "Phone?" he said. "I can't believe this is a phone?" He fished out the weird flat thing. "I thought phones were like..." he mimed a rotary phone like the one his gran had with his finger. "You know, plugged into the wall?"
He did look a little alarmed at Melvin's threats of violence. "Please don't hit me though." he said.
There it was again, that odd barking. "Do you hear a dog?" he asked.

"He was dead? Ewww. That's super gross." He had to wonder why the other kid died then and if that meant it might happen to them. "Good you left."
"I'm American. I'm from Hallowell Maine." And because this kid must have not been from the United States, he rode his hand high up. "That's on the top right part of the US. We don't have cowboys cause it's super cold and rains and we have the ocean and now rivers. Just boats and lighthouses." He clarified, before dropping his hand down low.
"Cowboys are down south where there are prairies and horses and big fields where it's warm and doesn't really snow. We get TONS of snow in Maine."
As for cowboys, he shrugged. It was an old debate of playgrounds. Cowboys. Ninjas. Pirates. Spacemen. "They're ok I guess. I like space more than prairies."
Which lead him to wonder. "Where are you from?"

Lawrence didn't even figure out where Melvin had gotten the dead part from, just skimmed over it with a little bit of concern, the way he talked didn't even register.
"Man it's so cool!" he said. "Shame you have no cowboys. Cowboys are the best. Guess they get cold in the snow, I wouldn't like trying to hunt an outlaw through the snow!"
He shrugged. "I'm from Manchester. Big grey city. We have a museum with dinosaurs in. Me dad owns a shop! I get to help if I stay good."

"My Dad works at an office but my little brother loves dinosaurs. What kinda shop does your dad have? Do you get to do anything cool?" He stopped at the end of the hallway and looked around.
"This place is huge. It's like twice the size of my school."
He pointed his make-shift staff out. "So, left or right?"
