Everything was set, from the fire crackling merrily in the hearth to the cozy setup of chairs. Everything in the room screamed wealth, elegance, and class. To those who could tell the painting hanging on the wall were all originals, the books on the shelves first copies, the ornaments scattered here and there indications of life well lived. A vase from china, a mask from Ethiopia, a statute from Russia. All together the room felt lived in and yet the rich undertones of money permeated every surface. For Quinn this was just a room but in a little bit it would be a battle grounds of sorts. Quinn was determined to help his friend out by any means necessary even if it meant sitting back and letting someone else handle it.

Luckily his father talked him out of a direct confrontation. Instead he proposed this, a nice sit down chat between Seung’s parents and Quinn's. A gentle indication of power that could make life truly difficult and yet the wisdom to hold back from striking out. His father pointed out that a quiet, informal, setting would make Seung’s parents more receptive to the whole conversation that would be broached. He said something about honor and age and something that Quinn didn’t really catch because at that point the younger man didn’t really care, he had seen the merit of his father’s plan, granted for completely different reasons. The grandfather clock in the entrance hall chimed the half hour softly, they would be here soon.

Quinn took one last look around the room, there wasn’t anything that the housekeepers hadn’t already done and prepared for much to his annoyance. He was as nervous as a boy about to meet his girlfriend's father for the first time. It was ridiculous though he still felt that burn of anger when he thought of the reason that Seung’s parents were coming over. It was stupid just how childish they were acting. If he were Seung he would have told his parents to suck it… but Quinn wasn’t Seung. He knew his friend was hurt by their actions so if this little charade would make him feel better, then it was worth it.

His own family had never been poor but by no means was he used to the wealth surrounding him. Had he never found out, from Quinn himself, he’d have never guessed the other came from money much less this sort of money. It just wasn’t there to see in the others behavior or attitude, for which he was glad. Had that been the case it would have been a bit of a more awkward start to their friendship to say the least, as it was they were friends - good friends even. To have Quinn helping him like this meant a great deal to him, especially since the other had offered as had Quinn’s parents.

With the meeting being important, as he knew it was, he had opted to forego much of what he would normally wear. Things that would have had to be lost back home when he entered the workforce, things he got to keep here, his piercings were out for now and his streaked hair was parted to the left side more so he could cover some of the right side with hair rather than let the shortly shaven part show. He refrained from rings and eyeliner and stuck to just light foundation. He knew how to present himself, he was no stranger to it, he just typically didn’t dress so...simply. He hadn’t dressed like this much since graduating high school, since he would have so little time to express himself freely, and it was a bit...odd perhaps was the word to use. It wasn’t uncomfortable though.

Stepping into the room, since he was due to be here as well for the sit down talk, he made his approach slowly and rested a hand on the others shoulder before moving to hug him. “Calm down. Can see you are nervous.” He said before letting the other go and moving to stand at his side. Jeans, not as tight as normal, and a button up shirt with a tank top under it in a dark color. He had tried his best, and hoped he looked good. “Your parents will be good. Mine will..I don’t know.” He hoped for the best but he honestly didn’t know. He knew his father would have nothing but respect for his boss, Quinn’s father, but he didn’t know if he would bow his head, sort to speak, to what the other man wanted or if his father would simply try and explain things and ask to be let to handle his family matters on his own. It was hard to tell - very hard.

“Soon they will come and we will do well.”

Quinn tweaked a picture frame sitting on the mantle of the fireplace only glancing at the picture, a rather domestic scene. A young Quinn riding his father’s shoulders around the yard while his mother laughed in the background. That was along time ago. The young man sighed and turned to face the room fully again, ready to poke and prod once more but was detained by a hand to the shoulder which was quickly followed up by a hug. Quinn had gotten use to Seung’s hugs, it was still strange to him but, eh, what can you do? It wasn’t like there was anything in it besides friendship behind it. “Yeah, yeah. I know. It just irks me that Dad said he was going to wing it. Like seriously?” Whenever Quinn pressed his father all his dad did was wave him off and said ‘don't worry about it’ he had it all figured out. So much was riding on this and the big child wouldn’t even give his son the benefit of the doubt and let him in on his plan! It bugged him. It bugged Quinn so much. Mentally reigning himself in Quinn took a deep breath and let it all out, all the frustration, the anger, the worry. He let it go, at least he tried to.

With a sigh the young man placed a hand on Seung’s shoulder, a mirror gesture to the earlier one. “I know. Come on. Dad said he wanted a few minutes alone with your folks. He will send someone after us.” Besides Quinn needed to get into his own ‘costume’, in the worn jeans and aged to perfection t-shirt there was nothing that screamed money except maybe his watch. “Besides, I set up a hidden camera so we won't miss out on the action.” He knew his dad’s plan was to kick them out for the majority of it and like hell was Quinn going to miss Seung’s folks get taken down a peg or two. With a smile he led the way out of the room, soon pushing open a door to entertainment room. There really was no way to describe it, not with the large tv and shelves of games and movies, couches you could sink into, a pool table and even an air hockey table. It had been another sitting room until his dad had gotten his mitts on it. Quinn had spend many a night movie marathoning when he was younger. Oh if only it was that simple again.

“Winging might be good. Over thinking can make mistakes.” Shrugging he let his head tilt to the side enough that it could rest on the others shoulder. Staring up, oddly, at the other he shook his head a bit. “Knows what he is doing, I’m sure. Scripting easy to read most times...too automatic sounding and moves seem too focused..too planned.” It was like watching a robot if someone over thought and over planned things, at least to him. Though the others father might be good at covering such things, he found a lot of people to be easy to figure out.

Nodding his head, lifting it from the others shoulder, he took the other's hand from his shoulder and headed out of the room with Quinn. “Should go well...parents will behave.” He hoped at least. He figured they would, manners would dictate such really, but sometimes people lost their tempers and that did override manners he found. “Hidden camera...sneaky. Not nice to do...but I do want to see.” He said, smiling brightly at the other. As much as he loved his parents he too wanted to see this. A lot was riding on this...this could bring him back into the family, at least inpart, or it could go bad and things remain as they are or get worse. He hoped they got better though, he wanted to be able to talk to his family and visit during the upcoming Lunar New Year - it was important!

“You just don’t like my parents, want to see them put in place.” Seung pointed out as he let the others hand go in order to move about the room while take in everything. He really was not used to money like this, or knowing anyone who possessed it. To see it from a person like Quinn, who acted to casually, it was a surprise but a pleasant one. “At least not my grandparents...older generation more stubborn and old fashioned then parents generation. Mothers parents no longer alive though, died this past summer.” Something he had come to terms with, rather easily no less, and as he found a chair to sink into he watched the other. Unaware that his parents were indeed arriving, driving up in the company owned car his father used. Both of his parents were, unsurprisingly, dressed in their bed with his father in a suit and his mother in a lovely dress of a dark plum color.

“No. No, I don’t like your parents.” Quinn said clearly even as he brought up the video feed on the screen. Empty room so they weren't there yet, “Come on man. They are your parents! They should love you no matter what. Hell if you wanted to ******** a damn goat they should love you… put you in therapy maybe but they should still love you.” It still really bugged Quinn that they just dumped their son like he was an unwanted puppy just because he had the gall to fall in love with a guy. It was bullshit! The young man was jarred from his building anger by sound coming from the tv.

“Please. Take any seat you would like, Andrew will be bringing the tea shortly.” The voice was deep and smooth, carried power like a bucket carried water. It still took a moment before his father’s figure appeared, tall and broad. His frame cut well in a casual suit, even his normally shaggy dirty blond hair was carefully styled. This man, Arthur James Quinton the second, truly looked like a CEO. Quinn’s brow rose in surprise, the old man really was pulling out all the stops since, like his son, he preferred simple comfortable clothes. Quinn studied the two figures that joined his father on the screen but the view was quickly covered as his father approached the bookshelves where the camera was hidden, it was like he was zeroing in right on the button camera.

The sound of china clinking slightly indicated that one of the guys who worked in the house, Andrew, had brought in the tea but all he could see was his father blocking the view. He saw his father pick out a book, look right at the camera, smiled, and disconnected it. “s**t!” Quinn cursed as the screen went black. “Damn, He went right there because he knew it was there, and I thought I hid it so well.” The young man tisked and pouted a moment, trying to guess how the camera had been found. “Bah.” With a sigh he ran his hand through his hair and turned to face Seung. “I still got to get changed. Your welcome to just chill here, I’ll let someone know where you are so when Dad finally wants us they will know where to look.”

Quote:
Laughing at what the other said he wrapped his arms about himself as he couldn’t seem to stop laughing for several long moments. “A goat! I have better taste I should hope!” Terry was damn good looking, at least he thought so, and those hips...not that he figured anyone else had ever noticed aside from himself. “It happens, expected it if ever found out. Was not surprised.” Not that it stopped it from hurting, or made it hurt less. Shaking his head he let his attention move to the tv where noise was coming from. Well, there as his mother and his father.

Tea was good, his mother loved it tea especially chrysanthemum, while his father went with basic green tea. Tea wasn’t something he really enjoyed but he didn’t mind it, he prefered juices over teas though in the winter he would accept tea easier than in the summer.

His mother was small, around 5’3” or 5’4” with a fairly slender frame though age had given her a bit of weight but she carried to well. The dark plum dress she wore was well made and fit nicely, as it should, and didn’t show the weight that age, and two children, had brought to her small frame. Her dark hair, the same as her sons when he wasn’t dying it, was tied back into a bun and streaked gently with grey hairs that were well earned. His father was tall, just a hair over his son in height with broader shoulders and dark hair that was combed more to the right. He had no facial hair and no piercings unlike his son and his wife, as she had one earring in each ear lobe. The suit was black and with a dark plum shirt to match his wife's dress it too was cut and brought in to fit his frame nicely. They were a bit darker in complexion as well, when compared to Seung and his younger sister and cousin anyway. Watching as the image was blocked, just as he got to see them, he shook his head.

“Caught? Not good, will say something later - yes?” He asked looking over the other before nodding his head. “Sounds good. Maybe tea as well?” Since it was cooler out tea wouldn’t be bad for him either. “Hope it goes well before we join meeting.” He hoped it all went well truth be told.

When Quinn left the room he settled back and ran his fingers through his hair. It was so odd having it parted as he did and not to feel piercings in his ears, to not feel the cool metal or feel their weight. Once this was over they were going back in.

“A suggestion where to hid it better next time maybe but a scolding? Not likely.” Quinn shrugged. His dad knew him well, he would have known that Quinn would want eyes and ears in on the meeting if he couldn’t be there personally so it didn’t really surprise him, he was just annoyed that it had been spotted so easily…. And he didn’t know what was going on in the meeting. “Tea? Oh, um, yeah, I’ll let them know.” He nodded as he slipped out of the room, quickly passing on the request for tea and making his way to his room. While he showered and changed one of the younger maids set out tea for Seung before leaving the young man to his own devices.

It didn’t take long before Quinn re-joined Seung, he appeared like a completely different person. Like his father, Quinn was in a casual suit, pressed charcoal slacks with a simple, yet expensive, light blue collared shirt. He went san’s jacket, he hated the things, but his shirt cuffs were buttoned and even his shoes were professional. He looked like he belonged in a boardroom with his styled hair and outfit, the perfect image of a powerful, young man. That was promptly ruined when he flopped down on a chair, kicking his feet up on the coffee table, and sighing, “I hate dressing up like a performing monkey.”

“That is because you are one young master.” The voice was tinged with a british accent and came from behind Quinn, who smothered a curse while quickly removing his shoes from the furniture. “Very good, young master… I shan’t have to tell your mother regarding your indiscretion.”

“Oh stuff the ‘young master’ schtick Andrew… Besides Mom has stood on this coffee table and done a victory dance before. Granted she had just whopped Dad’s a** in Mario Kart but still.” Quinn stuck his tongue out at the older gentleman standing by the entertainment room door. The Butler, house keeper, pain in the a**, and Quinn had a running thing going. Quinn tried to get the older guy to shake the whole ‘servent’ feel while Andrew constantly called Quinn ‘young master’. It was there thing. “So what brings you in here? Want to play a game of DDR?” Quinn waggled his brows, knowing that there was no way in hell that Andrew would ever take him up on the offer… it wouldn’t be proper.

“No young master,” a small smile flashed across Andrew’s face at Quinn’s unconscious flinch at the title, “I’ve come to fetch you and master Seung. Your Father requests your presence.”

Ahhhh. It was time to get the show on the road. Turning towards Seung Quinn stood and held out a hand, “You ready?”

Quote:
Looking up from his tea when Quinn entered the room again, all dressed up and freshly showered, and shook his head at the sight. He did clean up nicely, though he did as well, and watched unsurprised as the other flopped onto the couch and propped his feet up. “Same here...would have to for job and military worse. Take as much time to dress as I want before that.” So until he had to dress up and look in a way he didn’t want he planned to dress however he wanted...then force himself to dress up like some...performing monkey, as the other worded it. It wasn’t something he faced now, aside from the military time, and he was glad for it. Though he supposed if he got a good job it might not be wise to dress as he did normally when on the job. That might be an issue when it came to his hair style and colors, earrings were easy to remove.

Listening to the two he tilted his head a bit. “Mario kart...and victory dance. Not what I expect.” He said laughing at the other and sipping the tea slowly. It really wasn’t that bad, tea never was, he just….wasn’t as into tea as his mother or even his father though the man did prefer coffee. He figured it was just a generational thing and a move away from something so traditional and on to something more..modern and different.

“DDR? Both of you but not together?” Did they both play? But apparently not against each other. Setting the tea down and standing as the servant, who wasn’t treated much like one, mentioned it was time for them to make an appearance.

“As ready as can be. Nervous but good.” Truth be told the tea had helped a bit but now having to go deal with them he felt butterflies in his stomach, not to mention a bit of a knotting feeling in his gut. Taking the others offered hand he took a calming breath, hoping to settle himself some.

Quinn just shrugged and pulled his friend to his feet before letting go and leading the way out of the room. He was stopped only once by Andrew who passed him the books his father had previously picked up… and the camera he had removed. With a sigh Quinn slipped the camera into his pocket and made his way back to the sitting room that the meeting was being held, with each step he seemed to change slightly. Becoming more assured and confident, becoming more of the young man his clothing made him appear to be. It was as if he was arming for battle and the young lord was ready to face the world. Instead all he would be facing is a pair of misguided, stuck in the past, parents who needed a good smack upside their heads.

With no hesitation he strode into the room, “Father.” Quinn nodded to his dad before holding out the books. Once relieved of them, the smile on his dad really wanted to make Quinn laugh, he turned towards the Kims and bowed. “Man-na-suh pan-gop-sumnida,” Once upright he glanced over at Seung and asked quietly, but not so quietly, “Did I pronounce that right?”

His father chuckled and addressed the Kims, “As you can see your son is doing his best to teach my son.” He glanced at the two boys and gestured to seats, “Sit. Sit. Seung, I was telling your parents about how I was hoping that they would agree to you working with Quinn, and the company in general, for the projects we are hoping to expand in South Korea. Afterall it would be a bad thing for all parties involved if anything interferes with them.”

Quinn glanced over at his father, barely able to hide the smirk since he just boxed Seung’s folks into a corner. They couldn’t block his friend off from his family since family and connections were a big deal in Korea, at least not without risking any ‘projects’ his dad and the company were doing. Not that Quinn had heard anything about new jobs in Seoul or Korea that the company was working towards but it wasn’t like the young man knew everything about the main company his dad ran, let alone any of the branches that fell under the umbrella of the Quinton corporation.

Quote:
Watching as Quinn was, discretely, given his camera back he nodded to Andrew as he followed Quinn toward the room. Watching as Quinn seemed to change, at least in some way, he let himself take a deep breath before letting it out. Calming himself he kept right behind the other. When they entered the room his eyes finding his parents immediately, how could he not seek them out right away? It wasn’t just because this was about them, or because he missed them, but they were his parents no matter what.

Bowing as well to his parents he held it, longer than Quinn did, in a show of respect to his parents. He had upset them, he knew it, and was perhaps in this small but meaningful gesture trying to show some apology for it or at least show that he knew he had upset them. “Anyoung hashimnikka abeoji, eomeoni.” To follow up the bow he used the most formal language he could before he straightened himself and nodded once to Quinn’s whispered question. “You did.” He had worked with Quinn on that phrase, and in time he’d be able to say it quicker and let it roll off the tongue, and hearing the words spill from the others lips made him proud. He’d done well.

Finding a seat, as he was told to, he sat across from his parents and kept his hands in his lap and eyes away from his parents. “Of course, Mr. Quinton.” He answered nodding his head in a slight bow to his friends father. “I am honored that you wish for my help.” The man he knew had boxed his parents in. It would not look good to keep him separated from the family, someone back home who he would work with would find out. It would be look bad for his parents as well back home if it got out. It wasn’t something which you could hide either, it simply wasn’t.

“I hope I can help your company with it’s endeavors in South Korea and be an asset.” Bowing his head with the words he used the moment to hide a smile. He was, appreciative of the offer, but more so of the help the older male was providing him in concerns to his family and it’s state.

Watching his father as he lifted his head he noticed his father seemed rather...stuck between proud, silent, and swallowing a lemon or something equally sour. But the man seemed to recover rather quickly and start in about how it was a great honor for his son to be able to help so much - that his son would do well and had gone to a very good university in Seoul for business. Seung wasn’t unsurprised by his father's words, not one bit, but he knew the man was acting like a peacock and treating his son like one as well. He could live with it. He listened, for a few more moments, as his father went on about how this was good for his son, to be trusted so much. It was nothing he didn’t expect. His father would look, rather quickly, to accept him back and to have his son, in some way, serve as a middle ground between himself and the head of the parent company.

James laughed and reassured Seung, “I’m sure you will do just fine. You're a bright boy so no worries here. School comes first of course but we’ve got some time yet.” Quinn just kept his mouth shut. He had no clue where the whole thing was going but as Seung’s dad started to spout praises the young man knew that the tactic had worked. They might not let Seung back into the family home but they at least wouldn’t block him from the rest of his relatives. As the ‘proud’ father rambled on Quinn just kind of spaced out, it wasn't like he was needed here other than as statue. Something to point at and go, ‘here is my son now let's talk about other things’. It bugged him but he understood especially in this case since the dog and pony trick he just performed let him sit in on the rest of the conversation.

“Oh, I know. University of Seoul is one of the top schools. He will be a good for the company.” Quinn was surprised that his dad knew what school Seung had gone to but it shouldn’t have. It made sense for James to do a check on Seung’s knowledge if he really was going to hire the other knight.

“Sir,” Any further conversation was interrupted when Andrew quietly broke into the conversation, “You have a call sir. It appears it is rather important.” He came in and whispered something in his ear which made Quinn’s dad stand.

“I am terribly sorry. I really must take this call. You are welcome to stay and talk,” He bowed slightly towards the Kims in apology. Quinn knew that this wasn’t part of the plan, something was wrong if he was being called at home since that rarely ever happened. Before he could even open his mouth to ask if help was needed James shook his head slightly. His father wanted him to remain here. “I’ll return as fast as I’m able too.” With that the imposing figure that was Arthur James Quinton the second made his way out of the room.

Quinn glanced over at Seung. Now what? He really had no idea what to talk about. What could be safely said to the Kims? He didn’t even know what projects his dad was talking about earlier so it wasn’t like he could discuss them. s**t.

Quote:
Quinn’s father, thankfully, understood school came first. But was this really an offer or was this part of the show for his parents? He honestly hadn’t a clue as they hadn’t spoken about anything, nor had he spoken to Quinn about this offer, it wasn’t something he’d bring up now especially not in front of his parents.

Surprised, for a moment, over Quinn’s father knowing where he’d gone to school he found his head nodding to the words. He shouldn’t be surprised but he was, he hadn’t thought the man would look into it. This was to get him back into some sort of good graces with his family. So to research where he’d gone to school hadn’t seemed like something which was needed, so he hadn’t considered it. Seung was mildly proud as he sat there and let the older man comment on it, that he would be good for the company. Was he really being offered a job and to help with something? He really did want to know, he wanted to look over to Quinn to see what he thought...if he had a clue.

He didn’t move though, didn’t look to the other, but watched as Andrew came in and Quinn’s father got up to leave. Important business, it made sense. Bowing his head as the man left, thanking him softly, he turned his attention then to his parents and Quinn. This could get awkward and fast...he hoped it wouldn’t.

Deciding to take charge, since no one else was, and in a bid to avoid things becoming very awkward Seung spoke up. “It is good to see you...father, mother.” Nodding to them both, in order of which he addressed. “I hope we can work together in future. It seems that talking now is best left where it is in favor of talking another time. Mr. Quinton has things to do and I should talk to his son about business - you understand of course.” He knew his father would, knew he was dismissing his father in a sense but he was being as polite as he could, putting the reasoning to things which made sense. He was trying to cover up his rudeness and his wish to end things before it got odd. He needed to talk to Quinn, as he’d said, just not about business. He needed to find out what was going on and if something was happening….he also needed to thank him.

Watching his father get up, followed by his mother, he reached out to shake his father's hand after bowing to the man. “It was good to see again.” As his father shook his offered hand, and offered a bow in return, he did the same with his mother before hoping Andrew would see them out. It seemed they were at least going to say a few words to him, more his mother than his father, before they left the room and he was left with Quinn. Good, now they could talk.

Quote:
Before Quinn could do much more then just sit there, awkward silence filling the room, Seung apparently had some ideas of his own and they consisted of basically dismissing his parents. Convenient, it meant that they wouldn’t have to come up with anything to actually talk about. Keeping a straight face was pretty hard but he did it, all through the bullshit that Seung shoveled and nodded along. He kept that face, all stoic and the like until he heard the front door close and then he busted out laughing. “Dude… you just kicked out your parents! Epic.”
